Exciting News About Disney+ Streaming Platform

Exciting News About Disney+ Streaming Platform

Many have been anxiously awaiting details to be released about Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+.  Details about the service have been kept under wraps.  Hopefully, additional information will be made available during 2Q19.  The Disney+ streaming platform is supposed to be shown off during an April 11 investor meeting. Maybe a launch date will be released shortly after?

Disney+ is anticipated to include original movies and TV shows from Disney’s Marvel, Pixar and more.  It is also said to make its debut at some point during 2019.  It will be the third streaming service to which the Disney company is connected.  The other two are ESPN+ and Hulu, which will soon be majority owned by Disney.  Disney+ will be geared more towards family programming.

Out of all the traditional media companies, Disney is taking the largest risk on streaming services.  The purchase of 21st Century Fox for $71 billion will give Disney a number of additional assets in film, TV, and streaming.  Their direct-to-consumer division also lost $738 million on revenue of $3.4 billion for the fiscal year ending on September 29, 2018. These numbers show the company’s investment in content and technology.  They do not take into consideration the projected revenue from Disney+ nor ESPN+.  The later was only introduced in April. That being said, Disney executives have been preparing its investors for what will most likely be a transitional year with the introduction of the new services.

I cannot wait until more information is released about the newest streaming service!  What kind of programming would you like to see with Disney+? Let me know in the comments.

Pixar Director Lee Unkrich Leaving Company After 25 Years.

Pixar Director Leaving Company After 25 Years.

Pixar Director Lee Unkrich has announced his resignation after working for the company for 25 years.  Unkrich has worked at the Emeryville, California-based studio for 25 years.  Pixar Director Lee Unkrich first joined the company when the company was in the midst of making its feature, Toy Story, at the time was serving as an editor before moving up to becoming a Pixar Director.

Unkrich co-directed a few of the Pixar classics, such as Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc. and Finding Nemo.  Unkrich went on to become a solo director on Toy Story 3 and Coco.  Coco  grossed over $807 Million worldwide and won the best animated feature Academy Award

Unkrich turned in his resignation on Friday with an amicable departure on a high note and his colleagues sung his praises.  “Lee arrived at Pixar as we were crafting Toy Story, and he’s had a profound effect on all Pixar films since.  He literally taught us rookie filmmakers about staging, composition and cutting.  His artistry and expert craftmanship as an editor and co-director became a major reason for the high quality of our filmmaking, as Lee went on to direct, his ability to find the deep humor and emotion enabled him to create some of the strongest films we’ve made,” said Pete Docter, Pixar Director of Monster’s Inc. and Pixar’s chief creative officer.

Unkrich made the following statement to Pixar employees about his departure, “I’m not leaving to make films at another studio; instead, I look forward to spending much needed time with my family and pursuing interests that have long been back-burner.”

Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn leaves us with the final statement, “Lee has left an indelible mark on the world of film, and we are so grateful for the passion and talent he has brought to each movie he has worked on.  He’ll always be part of the Disney-Pixar family, and we will miss him.”  We wish you well, former Pixar Director Lee Unkrich, on your new chapter in life.

Disney’s “Ralph Breaks The Internet” Coming Home Soon

Ralph Breaks The Internet

Disney’s “Ralph Breaks the Internet” is coming home on Digital 4K Ultra HD and Movies Anywhere on February 12 and 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray on February 26! Ralph and Vanellope will be coming home with exclusive extras fans will love!

Disney’s “Ralph Breaks The Internet” Coming Home Soon

The animated adventure featuring video-game bad guy Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) and fellow misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman), raced to No. 1 opening weekend winning the top spot at the domestic box office for three consistent weeks and grossing more than $435.1 million to date. In the hilarious, high-speed sequel to 2012’s Oscar®-nominated “Wreck-It Ralph,” the besties risk it all by traveling to the expansive, fast-paced world of the internet in an action-packed attempt to save Vanellope’s game Sugar Rush. “Ralph Breaks the Internet” is available instantly on Digital 4K Ultra HD™/HD/SD and Movies Anywhere Feb. 12 and physically on Blu-ray and DVD Feb. 26.

“Ralph Breaks the Internet” arrives home with a wide-range of exclusive extras, taking fans behind the scenes at Walt Disney Animation Studios to explore how artists created the film’s vibrant version of the internet — from comical cat videos to the intense online game Slaughter Race to shady characters on the Dark Net. Features also reveal some Easter eggs — inside jokes and references to other Disney films and characters hidden throughout the film — and filmmakers introduce some never before revealed deleted scenes.

Directed by Rich Moore (Academy Award Ò-winning “Zootopia,” “Wreck-It Ralph”) and Phil Johnston (co-writer “Wreck-It Ralph,” “Zootopia,” writer, “Cedar Rapids”), and produced by Clark Spencer (“Zootopia,” “Wreck-It Ralph,” “Bolt,” “Lilo & Stitch”), “Ralph Breaks the Internet” welcomes back favorite cast and characters introduced six years ago, including Reilly, who provides the voice of Ralph, and Silverman, who returns as the voice of Vanellope. Lending a virtual hand to Ralph and Vanellope is Shank, voiced by Gal Gadot, a tough-as-nails driver from a gritty online auto-racing game called Slaughter Race, a place Vanellope wholeheartedly embraces — so much so that Ralph worries he may lose the only friend he’s ever had. Yesss, voiced by Taraji P. Henson, the head algorithm and the heart and soul of the trend-making site BuzzzTube, makes Ralph a viral sensation. Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch return as the voices of Fix-It Felix Jr. and Sergeant Calhoun, respectively, and Disney Animation’s good luck charm, actor Alan Tudyk was called on to voice a search engine named KnowsMore — literally a know-it-all — who runs a search bar and helps Ralph and Vanellope on their quest. Lots of exciting cameos are also featured in the film including a scene that reunites all of the original (living) Disney Princess voice cast.

“Ralph Breaks the Internet” will be packaged and released several different ways, offering families the flexibility to watch the movie instantly and on a variety of different devices of their choosing. The film is available in Digital 4K Ultra HD, HD and SD and physically as a 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and Digital Copy), a Multi-Screen Edition (Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Copy) and a single DVD.

Hollywood Studios is Continuing Enhancements to the Park Entrance

Disney's Hollywood Studios is Continuing Enhancements to the Park Entrance

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is continuing enhancements at the park entrance. While we all are watching for updates and the highly anticipated announcement of the opening date for the Star Wars themed Galaxy’s Edge improvements continue at the front of the park.

Beginning January 21st, the restrooms near the Guest Relations Window will be closed to accommodate the work occurring in the area. The closure is temporary, however, a reopening date has not been given at this time. There are two other options for restrooms during the closure of the ones closest to Guest Relations. Outside of the park, guests may visit the restrooms located near the newly built gondola station at the bus loop. Just inside the park, guests can utilize the restrooms located at Oscar’s Super Service. Guests must have valid theme park admission to visit the restrooms located inside the park.

The closure is due to the continuing work on the parking tram and guest walkway areas. Disney has been working on additions and enhancements to the transportation area of Hollywood Studios for a while now. These enhancements are both needed and necessary to accommodate the growth and changes to the park. The gondola transportation system, the Disney Skyliner opening later this year will have a station for loading and unloading near the entrance. The bus transportation area is also undergoing a major facelift.

On a larger scale, there are continuing road construction projects throughout the resort. When the construction is complete, traveling around Walt Disney World should be much easier. The project is a multi-phase plan. Hollywood Studios was the first to benefit from this construction with an entrance from Osceola Parkway that opened last year.

Sneak Peek: Go Backstage With The New Walt Disney World Shows!

New Walt Disney World Shows

New Walt Disney World Shows

Walt Disney World is debuting more new shows and entertainment this year than ever before.  Walt Disney World is gearing up for Mickey & Minnies 90th Anniversary with a number of new park celebrations.  Recently, Disney invited the Associated Press behind the scenes for a sneak peek at how they put together their new shows for the parks.

So Many New Shows

The festivities being prepared are the new Move It! Shake It! MousekeDance It! Street Party and An Incredible Celebration – Super Shindig!  Both of these events made their debut this past Friday in the Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios.  Cast Members are also in rehearsal for the new Lightning McQueen’s Racing Acadamy show experience.

New Walt Disney World Shows

Walt Disney World’s entertainment division includes over 6,700 workers, from over 100 different disciplines!  Each come together to perform more than 200,000 performances annually.

The Creative Process

Walt Disney World bases their shows on which characters are resonating with guests the most.  They use the shows as an extension of that movie or franchise.  Once a theme or character idea is picked, it’s developed by a team of directors, writers, and theatrical technicians.  No idea is off limits, as Disney has a wide range of talent at their disposal.  Puppeteers, jugglers, acrobats, dancers, improv artists and musicians all play a role in fleshing out show ideas.

New Walt Disney World Shows

Costumes & Design

Once a new show is “green-lit”, it takes a village of performers, choreographers, show techs and costume designers to get everything put together.  300 sewers help create 10,000 costumes, all designed by a team of six designers.  The expansive tailoring department worked diligently to design and create Mickey & Minnie’s latest costumes for their new parade.  Inspired by vanilla cupcakes with confetti sprinkles, the outfits are white with rainbow checks and dots sprinkled on the fabric.

Take a look at this behind the scenes video of the backstage rehearsal area:

I can’t wait to see these celebrations come to life myself!  This year is certainly a magical one, with so many new shows at Walt Disney World!

Marathoner Tackled the Dopey Challenge While Undergoing Treatments.

Marathoner Tackled the Dopey Challenge While Undergoing Treatments.

A Tampa, Florida marathoner tackled the Dopey Challenge recently.  Which is impressive enough, as the Dopey Challenge consists of running a 5K, 10K, Half marathon and Full marathon in successive days for a total of 48.6 miles.  However, Florida marathoner, Ron Wertley, completed the marathon while undergoing chemotherapy treatments for cancer.

Mr. Wertley was first diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia after completing the Dopey Challenge in 2018.  Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia is a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow.  Ron was given a 40-percent survival chance.  Ron has competed in the RunDisney Dopey Challenge since 2014, raising more than $22,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team in Training.  Ron was determined to keep his “perfect” status of completing the challenge and made the decision to train while undergoing treatments.

Unfortunately, this decision didn’t come with a few challenges of its own.  After almost a year of aggressive chemo treatments, which sent the cancer into remission, the cancer returned in December.  Ron then began the challenge of a 30-day stint in the hospital and an aggressive chemo regimen to combat the disease.  With the support of his 420 LLS Team in Training teammates, Ron was able to complete his sixth Dopey Challenge.  Which shows his sheer determination to do what he loves!
