New Walt Disney World Shows

Walt Disney World is debuting more new shows and entertainment this year than ever before.  Walt Disney World is gearing up for Mickey & Minnies 90th Anniversary with a number of new park celebrations.  Recently, Disney invited the Associated Press behind the scenes for a sneak peek at how they put together their new shows for the parks.

So Many New Shows

The festivities being prepared are the new Move It! Shake It! MousekeDance It! Street Party and An Incredible Celebration – Super Shindig!  Both of these events made their debut this past Friday in the Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios.  Cast Members are also in rehearsal for the new Lightning McQueen’s Racing Acadamy show experience.

Walt Disney World’s entertainment division includes over 6,700 workers, from over 100 different disciplines!  Each come together to perform more than 200,000 performances annually.

The Creative Process

Walt Disney World bases their shows on which characters are resonating with guests the most.  They use the shows as an extension of that movie or franchise.  Once a theme or character idea is picked, it’s developed by a team of directors, writers, and theatrical technicians.  No idea is off limits, as Disney has a wide range of talent at their disposal.  Puppeteers, jugglers, acrobats, dancers, improv artists and musicians all play a role in fleshing out show ideas.

Costumes & Design

Once a new show is “green-lit”, it takes a village of performers, choreographers, show techs and costume designers to get everything put together.  300 sewers help create 10,000 costumes, all designed by a team of six designers.  The expansive tailoring department worked diligently to design and create Mickey & Minnie’s latest costumes for their new parade.  Inspired by vanilla cupcakes with confetti sprinkles, the outfits are white with rainbow checks and dots sprinkled on the fabric.

Take a look at this behind the scenes video of the backstage rehearsal area:

I can’t wait to see these celebrations come to life myself!  This year is certainly a magical one, with so many new shows at Walt Disney World!
