Cast Member Has Played Fantasia Garden Miniature Golf Over 557 Times

Cast Member Has Played Fantasia Garden Miniature Golf Over 557 Times

Dave Hartmann has been a Cast Member at Disney’s Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf since January of 2007 so it’s no surprise that he has an incredible love for the game. Dave has played the course more than 557 times! He even kept all of the scorecards.

Dave discovered the course many years prior to becoming a Cast Member at Fantasia Gardens. He even held the official record for 11 years, with a 47 on the 72-par course. His original score was a 90 so he worked hard to improve it, returning to the course every time he was on vacation in the area. This lasted from 1996 to 2003. He was eventually offered a job by the course manager and has been working on his game ever since!

His love of the game got him the job but his amazing nature with guests and other cast members ensure he always has a place at Fantasia Gardens. Somewhat of a local legend, Dave has many regulars that come to play and request him to join in. They love hearing his tips and advice! “What keeps me coming back is the chance to spend time with people,” he says. “I enjoy going out and talking with the people on the course, and we have a lot of fun. That’s what gives them memories.”

Take a look at more of Dave’s story below:

Iconic Fire Engine in Disneyland Celebrates Its 60th Anniversary

Fire Engine

For anyone that has visited Disneyland Park, they have seen the iconic Fire Engine make its way down Main Street, U.S.A. For 60 years, the Fire Engine has made this journey. Let’s take a ride down memory lane to hear the story behind one of Disneyland Resort’s most beloved classic vehicles.

Iconic Fire Engine in Disneyland Celebrates Its 60th Anniversary

To start, here are five fun facts about the Fire Engine:

  1. It made its debut in 1958 as the last addition to Disneyland park’s classic vehicle fleet.
  2. As a true piece of beloved Disney history, the Fire Engine is kept in immaculate condition, and its details always look sparkly and new.
  3. The vehicle is not licensed to drive on public streets, so it is exclusive to the Disneyland Resort.
  4. The truck was inspired by turn-of-the-early 20th century Fire Engines, such as the 1907 Rambler and vintage LaFrance fire trucks.
  5. Although it cruises up and down Main Street, U.S.A. at 5 miles per hour with guests in tow, the Fire Engine’s top speed is 35 miles per hour.
  6. The truck was inspired by turn-of-the-early 20th century Fire Engines, such as the 1907 Rambler and vintage LaFrance fire trucks.

Iconic Fire Engine in Disneyland Celebrates Its 60th Anniversary

The Fire Engine has an incredibly rich Disney history. Now, let’s take a closer look at three important people in this vehicle’s story:

  1. Walt Disney: Walt himself was known to drive the Fire Engine through the park before opening to survey operations and discover opportunities for improvement. In fact, in the fall of 1966, Walt and Mickey posed on the Fire Engine in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle for what would become one of their last photos together. These photos have become iconic images of Walt, a symbol of the magical legacy he left behind.
  2. Bob Gurr: The Fire Engine was designed by Bob Gurr, a legendary Imagineer with more than 100 plans for Disney attractions under his belt. Walt Disney first took notice of Bob’s passion for tools and mechanics after Bob consulted on the creation of attractions vehicles for Autopia, and the two men would go to inspire one another for years.
  3. Steve Finley: It’s nearly impossible to talk about the Fire Engine without mentioning longtime attraction host Steven “Steve” Finley. Steve got his start at the Disneyland Resort in 1973 working at Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant, and has served as beloved driver of the Fire Engine for the past 40 years. Nowadays, he can often be found handing out stickers to young riders or sounding the Fire Engine’s immediately recognizable horn.

Don’t miss your chance to take a ride on the iconic Fire Engine in celebration of its 60th anniversary. Pickup points are in Town Square and in Central Plaza in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle, except during parade times.

Tip: Be sure to look for the old-fashioned polished brass bell at the rear the vehicle, and give it a ring!

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Costumes at Whimsical and Historical

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms costumes

Who is excited to see Disney’s “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.” Everything we’ve seen so far leads us to think this will be an amazing film.  But The Nutcracker and the Four Realms costumes look like they will steal the show!

The LA Times interviewed Oscar winning costume designer, Jenny Beavan, who has taken history and weaved it with fantasy when it comes to the costumes for Disney’s Nutcracker.

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Costumes at Whimsical and Historical

“We set it in 1875 for the basic story,” says Beavan, of keeping the fantasy elements rooted in reality. “You’ve got to have an anchor. When you do films where they say, ‘I don’t care about the period’ and they’re all over the place, I think, even when people don’t know the period, they know it’s kind of wrong.”

In this new film Clara, played by Mackenzie Foy, goes to a party at her godfather’s home while still mourning the loss of her mother.  It is there that she discovers the magical wonderlands her mother created and learns that they are in danger.

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Costumes at Whimsical and Historical

“We decided to think about what the mother had in her closet or her cupboards,” says Beavan. “When I have nightmares or dreams, they’re often anchored in something I’ve seen that day or something I have around. So we went to the sort of Staffordshire [porcelain] figures people would have; they’re 18th century, and they were perfect for the Realm of Flowers. It translated brilliantly for all the realms. We covered them with ice and snow and icicles and frost and glitter, covered them in candy and sugar and sweet motifs. So they’re based on memory.”

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Costumes at Whimsical and Historical

This film was a huge undertaking from a costume perspective.  With 12 weeks of prep and then over 100 people working, cutting and embellishing, fitting and dressing to make the 150 principal costumes needed. Plus the hundreds more needed for the magical realms. Plus for the big crowd scenes about 700 costumes were rented.

Are you excited to see Disney’s “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” when it hits theaters on November 2nd?  I know I am!
