Review: A Gatsby Evening at The Edison – Disney Springs

Review: A Gatsby Evening at The Edison - Disney Springs

To kick off Labor Day Weekend 2018 at Disney Springs, The Edison hosted an incredible soiree – A Gatsby Evening. With a red carpet, incredible entertainment, amazing libations and food nothing compares to a party thrown by The Edison.  I stepped through the doors and immediately left the Millenium and the modern era behind.

Welcome

Partygoers traveled back in time to the Roaring 20’s. Nothing welcomes a guest to an event like a red carpet “photo shoot,” beautiful stilt walkers and a flapper in a champagne dress.  Talk about a showstopper, that dress was incredible, and that is how we received our welcome glass of champagne!

Libations

Review: A Gatsby Evening at The Edison - Disney Springs

The custom crafted cocktails for the party were themed perfectly and the talk of the night.  Something for every palate, the 1920’s inspired drinks were a huge hit. In addition to the specially concocted drinks, Johnnie Walker girls were handing out samples throughout the evening.

Entertainment

The whole evening was jam-packed with fantastic entertainment.  From tap dancing to a magician ( I still do not know how he did his sharpie trick or where the limes came from), ballroom dancers,  a sword balancer, and a hat and photo booth from Chapel Hats. But it is not The Edison, without the incomparable Pearl Dancers and “Flying” Ballerina Aerialist.  As an extra special treat for the party, we got to see a brand new routine performed by The Pearls. Check out the videos below to watch The Pearls and Flying Ballerina in action.

Last but not least, a cigarette girl was offering guests novelty sweets like candy cigarettes and rock candy.  But later in the evening, she was offering guests hand-rolled cigars. That was a definite favorite among partygoers.

Hors-d’oeuvres

Throughout the evening guests could snack on complimentary appetizers like Caprese skewers, deviled eggs (an Edison favorite), oysters on the half shell, and stuffed mushrooms.  Later on, servers offered a variety of cake pops for dessert to attendees.  That little surprise was such a nice touch.

Champagne Toast

Review: A Gatsby Evening at The Edison - Disney Springs

At the stroke of 10 pm, guests grabbed a champagne flute to participate in the aerial champagne toast.  The toast was such an unexpected surprise and a treasured point during the party. Be sure to check out the video below of the aerial champagne toast.

Overall Thoughts

With personalized flasks as parting gifts for the guests, it is just another way The Edison shows you they know how to throw an epic party!  A Gatsby Evening was absolutely spectacular and a true step back in time.  If you were unable to join in on the fun this time, stay tuned for more upcoming events.  To find out more information on The Edison at Disney Springs, click here. A Close Up Look At The Disney Parks Cauldron Popcorn Bucket

Cauldron Popcorn Bucket

This year the Disney Parks’ Halloween Novelties are absolutely fright-tastic. Out of all the new novelty souvenirs released this season, the Cauldron Popcorn Bucket is by far my favorite! It’s spooky, it’s cute, and it even lights up!

A Close Up Look At The Disney Parks Cauldron Popcorn Bucket A Close Up Look At The Disney Parks Cauldron Popcorn Bucket

You can get this fabulous popcorn bucket on Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party nights at the Magic Kingdom. It comes with a carrying strap that features some well known Disney characters enjoying some Halloween fun. The cauldron bucket itself resembles the infamous poison apple from Snow White, with the green ooze creating a skull shape.

A post shared by Chip and Co (@chipandco) on

Did I mention it lights up? I think I did! The popcorn bucket casts an eerie glow with four lights located in the lid that you can turn on or off. Not only is this a spook-tacular bucket for enjoying lots of popcorn in, it makes a fabulous Halloween decoration when you get home!

You can get the Disney Parks Cauldron Popcorn Bucket for $15.00 while supplies last!

Actress Carole Shelley Has Passed Away At The Age of 79

Carole Shelley

At the age of 79, Carole Shelley has passed away.  Disney fans will know her as goose Amelia Gabble in 1970’s The Aristocrats, Lady Kluck in 1973’s Robin Hood, and Lachesis in 1997’s Hercules.

Shelley passed away on August 31st in her home.  Her cause of death was reported as cancer. We are deeply saddened to hear of this incredible woman’s passing.

Besides her contributions to animated Disney films, Shelley was a Tony Award winning actress. Her Broadways debut was in the The Odd Couple in 1965, originating the role of Gwendolyn Pigeon. She has actually appeared in all three major adaptations of The Odd Couple (also appearing in the feature film and TV series) in the same role.

She won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for her role of Mrs. Kendal in The Elephant Man in 1979.

She was also nominated for Tony’s in 1975 for her performance in Alan Ayckbourn’s Absurd Person Singular; 1987 for her portrayal of Maxine in Richard Harris’ farce Stepping Out; and in 2008 for her performance as Grandma in Billy Elliot The Musical.

Her final Broadway role was that of Miss Shingle in A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder.

Born in London in August of 1939, she first started her career in British films before moving to America. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert G. Woods.

The thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies of all of us at Chip and Co go out to the friends and family of Carole Shelley.

Disney Having Record Market Share Year at the Box Office

Disney Having Record Market Share Year

It has been a record year at the box office for Disney in 2018. While the industry itself has had a record year in ticket sales, The Walt Disney Company has had a record year for market share.

From January 1st through August 31st almost 1/3 of the tickets purchases in the U.S. were for Disney movies. If this continues, Disney will have an annual market share not matched by any other year in the 21st century!

For the first 8 months of the year total ticket sales have hit $8.3 billion with Disney earning $2.7 billion – giving them a market share of 33%. It looks like the industry should reach $12 billion in ticket sales before the end of 2018.

As far as market share, following Disney year to date is Universal with 13.1%, Warner Bros. at 11.9%, Sony/Columbia at 9.6% and 20th Century Fox at 9%.

The success Disney has seen this year can be attributed to three films.  First, Black Panther brought in $700 million, followed closely by another Marvel film, Avengers: Infinity War at $679 million.  And finally, the summer hit, Incredibles 2, was a big money maker for Disney!

In previous years the top studio for market share typical has 15% to 20% of the market.  In 2018 The Walt Disney Company has the potential to double that market share.

Disney Cruise Line’s Presence May be Expanding at the Port of Miami

Port of Miami

Disney Cruise Line's Presence May be Expanding at the Port of Miami

As you are most likely aware of, Disney Cruise Line has ordered three brand new cruise ships. Disney has not confirmed which ports these new ships will call home but it is looking like Port Canaveral and the Port of Miami are in the running.

Earlier, we reported that one or two of the new ships sound like they will be sailing out of Port Canaveral. Now, BizJounrals is reporting that the Port of Miami may also be in the running.

It is being reported that Disney Cruise Line and the Port are in talks to build a new cruise terminal and be the home port for two if its larger ships beginning in 2023 and 2024. It is not known which ships these may be at this time, but one would guess it would be one of the new ships and maybe the Disney Dream or Disney Fantasy.

Miami-Dade County Mayor, Carlos Gimenez said, “Investing in PortMiami’s infrastructure positions Miami as a global destination for visitors. We couldn’t be more excited to work with Disney on expanding growth opportunities in Miami-Dade County.”

Currently, the Disney Magic is scheduled to sail out of the Port of Miami from this December to May 2019 and November 2019 to December 2019.
