Disney World Begins Serving Drinks Without Lids or Straws

No Lids

No Lids

We here at Chip and Co. have been reporting over the Summer that Walt Disney World will be gradually phasing out straws, drinks and plastic bags from the theme parks as a way of fulfilling Disney’s long-standing commitment to reduce their environmental footprint.

Check out this infographic released by Disney earlier this Summer:

Disney No Lids

Our roving reporter is at Disney World this weekend and has confirmed that this transition is now taking place at counter service locations throughout the parks. During a recent visit to Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe a the Magic Kingdom.  we were informed that lids are no longer offered with drinks.

No Lids

However, parents with small children that are worried about spillage can get kid-sized lids upon request.

No Lids

Straws are currently no longer be distributed with the drinks. However, we did find straws being stocked near the condiments at Pecos Bill.  We are told that these will eventually be swapped out for paper straws.

Here’s a quick video about this big beverage changes:

This marks the start of big changes in the way that guests enjoy your beverages at Disney World.  What do you think about these environmental-friendly upgrades? Let us know in the comments!

90 Years of Mickey Mouse with Thomas Kinkade Studios

Thomas Kinkade Studios

Mickey Mouse made his public debut in the short film Steamboat Willie way back in 1928. It was the first cartoon film with synchronized sound which made the film, along with its star, an overnight sensation. The movie forever changed the world of animation and launched a brand-new empire full of funny, cool, clever, caring, silly and mischievous characters. Fast forward 90 years and the world’s most famous mouse embodies the adventurous, lovable optimist in all of us and has become one of the world’s most beloved original icons.

In honor of 90 years, Thomas Kinkade Studios made this amazing piece of artwork that you can showcase in your own home. Visit Thomas Kinkade Studios for more info.

Thomas Kinkade Studios would like to congratulate Mickey on his 90th Anniversary and for showing us all that dreams really do come true.

Fun Facts

  • Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse’s original co-star from Steamboat Willie, has invited some of their most treasured friends to celebrate the film’s 90th anniversary.
  •  Six of Walt Disney Studios most famous ducks are in the theater — can you spot them all?
  •  Even Pete, a long-time nemesis of Mickey Mouse, is here to celebrate this notable anniversary. Clarabelle Cow – who Mickey struggled to load into the boat in her debut in Steamboat Willie along with old-time regulars Horace Horsecollar and Clara Cluck, have come out to congratulate their longtime friend.
  • Chip and Dale found some time to take a break from their mischievous tendencies to give Mickey a well-deserved round of applause.
  • Goofy first appeared in Mickey Mouse’s 1932 short film Mickey’s Revue, few know that back then he went by the name Dippy Dawg.

Disneyland Plastic Straws Only Available By Request; Plastic Lids And Bags Being Eliminated

Disneyland Plastic Straws

We recently brought you the news that Walt Disney World is slowly making the transition to eliminate single-use straws. It now appears that Disneyland is joining the environmental effort. Mouse Mail is reporting that guests will now need to request plastic straws if one is needed/wanted. Plastic lids for adult-sized cold beverage drinks will also no longer be offered. Guests who may need lids and straws due to a disability will be provided alternative options instead.

Last month Disney announced that by 2019, the Company will eliminate single-use plastic straws and plastic stirrers at all owned and operated locations across the globe, amounting to a reduction of more than 175 million straws and 13 million stirrers annually.

Another Disneyland change that guests will notice is that plastic shopping bags will now only be available by request when making purchases in the parks.

“Eliminating plastic straws and other plastic items are meaningful steps in our long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship,” said Bob Chapek, Chairman, Disney Parks, Experiences, and Consumer Products. “These new global efforts help reduce our environmental footprint, and advance our long-term sustainability goals.”

What do you think of this change? Let us know in the comments below.

A Los Angeles couple spent a record-breaking 13 hours riding the movie-themed attraction “Jurassic Park” at Universal Studios. They are diehard Jurrasic Park fans. The couple, Devin and Chelsea from Los Angeles, set out to break the record of 60 rides in one day of “Jurassic Park – The Ride.”

After riding for 13 hours, Devin had a surprise up his sleeve. He proposed to Chelsea, with an amber ring and all!

The attraction is set to close in September to be replaced by an upgraded “Jurassic World” ride in 2019.

The video shot that day records them going take continuously taking the plunge down the 84-drop. Then after record-breaking run #61, Chelsea got the surprise of her life. On the photo taken during the ride, Devin had opened up his jacket for the camera, displaying a T-shirt that read: “Chelsea Will You Marry Me?” He took out a Barbasol can movie prop, and revealed the amber ring inside. They took one more ride, bringing the record to 62. This time, in the ride photo Chelsea’s T-shirt said “Yes!! It also happened to be Chelsea’s birthday.

The ‘Great Irish Hooley’ Returns to Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant

Raglan Road

For the 7th year in a row, the ‘Great Irish Hooley’ music festival is returning to Raglan Road Irish Pub in Disney Springs. This unique celebration of Irish song, dance, food, and drink kicks off Aug. 31-Sept. 3. With no cover charge, the ‘Great Irish Hooley‘ combines delicious food and drink with entertainment and fun!

With contemporary Irish cuisine, Irish craft beers, hand-crafted cocktails and day-into-night entertainment, the Great Irish Hooley promises a high-voltage music festival for all who drop by or reserve a table. The “Great Irish Hooley” promises for a “rollicking” good time, and headliners for this year’s festivities include:

  • JigJam — The multi-award-winning Irish quartet will bring their captivating brand of “CeltGrass” (a.k.a. I-Grass) – blending the best of traditional Irish music with Bluegrass and Americana. (Friday through Monday)
  • Lisa Canny Band – The outrageously talented Lisa Canny, 7-time All-Ireland champion on harp and banjo, is an emerging Irish force blending pop and hip-hop with traditional Irish rhythms. (Saturday through Monday)
  • Billow Wood – Known as Flat Out when they played Raglan Road in 2016, this male/female four-piece band fuses their unique brand of instrumentation with multi-vocals and harmonies for a blend of Irish and folk music. (Monday)

Of course, the Raglan Road Irish Dancers will be on-hand to show off and perform their iconic Irish dance moves throughout the “Great Irish Hooley”, as will champion Irish dancer and Raglan Road’s show choreographer, Ciaran Keating. During the weekend, Ciaran will host an event tracing the origins of Irish dance from the earliest jigs and reels, through contemporary times.
