Sea World Providing Care to Rescued Cold-Stressed Manatee

Sea World is providing care to the first cold-stressed manatee of the year. While Florida is not experiencing the dangerous cold much of the country is currently enduring, it is chilly and water temperatures are dropping. Manatees are especially vulnerable to low water temperatures. Yesterday, in a combined effort between Florida Fish and Wildlife, Sea2Shore, and a local chapter of the Save the Manatee Club a male sub-adult manatee was rescued in Lake Griffin. The manatee was transported to Sea World where he can be properly cared for and rehabilitated.

The manatee, found in Eustis, a city in Central Florida is now enjoying warmer waters. Water temperatures in Central Florida are beginning to drop below the crucial temperature for manatee survival, 68 degrees. The manatee was assessed in the field and transported to the Sea World critical care animal hospital. Currently, the animal is receiving fluids and antibiotics for dehydration, and abscesses, both of which are symptoms of cold stress.

According to Jon Peterson, Sea World’s manager of rescue operations the current plan is to rehabilitate this manatee and return him to the wild once the waters warm up. Peterson has also spoken to the risk manatees run of succumbing to the cold when temperatures drop as manatees need warm water to survive.

The Sea World rescue team is a large part of the Florida based theme park. Last year alone, the team assisted with rescue and care for 72 manatees. This record number of creatures were suffering from a variety of ailments including, cold stress, red tide, and entanglement. The rescue team is available 24/7 to provide care to a variety of marine life and birds. Working with various entities throughout the state, including the Manatee Rescue & Rehabilitation program with a common goal of rehabilitation and release. Once returned to their natural habitats, they are monitored to ensure proper health.

International Festival of the Arts Exclusive Candy Artisan - Chef Wenbo Zhang

The Epcot International Festival of the Arts brings in amazingly talented artists each year, and this year is proving to be just as amazing. If you’re planning a visit to Epcot during the Festival, check your daily guide for candy artisan Chef Wenbo Zhang. Chef Zhang is known for his intricate and delicate candies and puts on a spectacular show demonstrating his creations.

Chef Zhang is visiting Epcot from the Henan Province in China to perform at this year’s Festival. Known for his skills in traditional Chinese edible folk art of Sugar Painting and handcrafting Dragon’s Beard Candy, you won’t want to miss his presentations. Both types of sugar arts date back thousands of years. The skills and expertise to master these creations are passed down from generation to generation and through apprenticeships.

To create a Sugar Painting, Chef Zhang uses a small ladle and drizzles melted sugar to “paint” the shape of an animal onto a marble slab. Before the sugar hardens completely, a stick is placed in the sugar turning it into a lollipop masterpiece.

Creating Dragon’s Beard Candy is a meticulous process using small batches of corn syrup, which are boiled, cooled, and then carefully stretched, which creates hundreds of thin strands. The strands are then wrapped around a variety of fillings such as coconut shavings, sesame seeds, or chocolate. During the Festival Chef Wang will be using crushed peanuts and walnuts.

The history of the Dragon’s Beard Candy is quite fascinating. Dating back to the Han Dynasty, legend has it an imperial chef “performed” for the emperor by making this new candy. During the performance, the strands of the candy reminded the emperor of a dragon’s beard, which was the symbol of the emperor. The sweet treats were restricted only to the ruling class.

On select days throughout the International Festival of the Arts, Chef Zhang will be demonstrating the Dragon’s Beard Candy. Only small batches of the Dragon’s Beard Candy can be created at a time, so quantities will be limited. Check your Festival Times Guide for demonstration times. Because of the time-consuming preparation needed to create this one of a kind treats, demonstrations will be on alternating days.

Don’t miss out on the other extremely talented artists that will be creating masterpieces during the International Festival of the Arts, including culinary, visual, and performing arts. World Showcase in Epcot is one of the best places to find unique treats at Walt Disney World. You can spend a whole day just touring the countries and sampling delicacies from around the globe (and believe me I have!). One of my absolute favorite spots is the Kringla Bakeri og Cafe located in the Norway pavilion. This small bakery that sits at the entrance to the country’s area is well known for amazing pastries like School Bread and Troll Horns. Now there’s a new dessert that’s sure to please guests and reindeer alike!

Sven’s Apple Cheesecake recently appeared at the bakery and it’s a delightful new addition to the menu. The treat is named after the loveable reindeer from Frozen and is a cheesecake dome atop a shortbread crust. The cheesecake has a center of spiced apples and the entire cake is covered in green fondant. It’s topped off with a tiny chocolate stem to complete the look of a freshly picked apple. The heavenly combination of rich, creamy cheesecake and spiced apples will have you singing “cheesecakes are better than people!”.

Kringla Bakeri og Kafe recently underwent a major refurbishment and reopened its doors in late 2018. The renovation improved guest flow by increasing the size and improving the ordering process. This was a much-needed improvement as the location is very popular with guests. The cafe also serves savory options like sandwiches, salads, and bagels. Sven’s Apple Cheesecake is available now for $4.49 before tax and is eligible for purchase with Disney Dining Plan snack credits.

Get Ready for the Garden Rocks Concert Series at Epcot

It’s time to get up and move your feet to the beat of dozens of the chart-topping musical artists, at the 2019 Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival! The Garden Rocks Concert Series is now expanded to 7 days a week from March 6 to June 3, 2019 at the America Gardens Theatre. That’s more than 270 concerts, making it more spectacular than ever!

2019 Mardi Gras Concert Lineup at Universal Orlando Resort

Get ready for some great music! The Mardi Gras concert series at Universal Orlando Resort is set to kick off February 9, 2019. With a wide range of musical stylings and artists spanning multiple decades, there is something for everyone in this year’s shows. The family-friendly Mardi Gras event runs February 9 – April 4 at Universal Studios.

Most recently, Sabrina Carpenter and Bazzi were added to the concert lineup. Sabrina Carpenter recently released a new album, Singular: Act 1. The artists pop stylings include the songs, “Sue Me” and “Paris”. Bazzi will dazzle the audience with hits including, “Mine” and “Beautiful”. The other scheduled artists cover many music genres such as top 40 hits and country. Headlining artists and acts are scheduled, including Pit Bull, Macklemore, Ziggy Marley, Steve Miller Band, and Bush.

The concerts are scheduled on various dates from February 9- March 31 and will take place in the Music Plaza.

Jim Henson’s creations came to the big-screen 1979 with the first of seven Muppet movies. Kermit’s road trip from the swamp to Hollywood was a smash success. His classic song “Rainbow Connection” is one of the most iconic songs in film history.

7 – Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (35 years)

Indiana Jones travels from the streets of Shanghai to the depths of the foreboding Pankot Palace on a quest to recover the sacred Sankara Stones. Released in 1984, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg partner together in the film that features boopy traps, creepie-crawlies, and groundbreaking special effects.

8 – The Little Mermaid (30 years)

The Little Mermaid won two Academy Awards (best original score and best song for “Under the Sea”) after its premier in 1989. With music from Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, Ariel, Ursula, Scuttle, and Sebastian prove that a Disney fairy-tale musical will never go out of style!

9 – The Twilight Zone™ Tower of Terror (25 years)

The Hollywood Tower Hotel reopened its doors at Hollywood Studios in 1994 for the first time since 1939. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is a thrill ride with an elaborate and chilling backstory. No wonder other versions of the attraction have “dropped” into Anaheim, Tokyo, and Paris.

10 – Up (10 years)

10 years ago, Pixar Animation Studios released the quirky masterpiece Up. With loveable characters like Carl, Ellie, Russel, and Doug, it’s no surprise that this film went on to win 2 Academy Awards with a nomination for Best Picture.

For an additional purchase with your regular theme park admission ticket, guests have been taking advantage of this amazing perk! I have seen testimonies stating they were able to ride their favorite rides over and over with minimal to no wait! That right there pays for the tickets themselves!

At Hollywood Studios guests with the Early Morning Magic tickets are among the first to enter the park and ride the popular attractions such as, Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers, and Toy Story Mania! In addition, guests with Early Morning Magic at Hollywood Studios have the opportunities to meet Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen not included), Woody and Jessie for photo opportunities that are a can’t miss!!

Disney Develops Top Secret Virtual Reality Film Project

Walt Disney Animation Studios has been touring an ambitious new film in the last few months. The first ever virtual-reality short film Cycles has been making its way around the country to great fanfare. It recently had a showing at the Sundance Film Festival where it was revealed that Disney has already given the greenlight to their next VR based project.

The new film Cycles is a groundbreaking step in animated filmmaking. The story of the life of a family is told in a virtual environment that the viewer experiences with the use of a VR headset. The film has been met with rave reviews for its heartfelt narrative expressed with state-of-the-art technology. The film’s director, Jeff Gipson will also helm the untitled new project using VR technology.

While virtual reality as an entertainment form is still somewhat in its infancy, the step by a major company like Disney to push the development bodes well for its future. Disney has made it’s upcoming Disney+ streaming service a main focus for the next year, but this move shows that they are aren’t singularly focused. Earlier this year the company unveiled a promotional Marvel VR game and was also the lead investor in virtual reality startup Jaunt VR. This also coincides with the impending acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney, as the company makes broad strides to expand and increase its offerings to audiences.

Details on the new VR short film have not yet been released. Cycles filmmakers have commented that they are being allowed to explore with Disney’s extensive lineup of past characters in the virtual reality setting. There is currently no public release plan for Cycles, as most VR projects developed by Disney are never even shown outside of the company. Hopefully, the announced project will be the next step in bringing this new entertainment medium to audiences soon.

New Menu Introduced At White Water Snacks At Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa At The Disneyland Resort

White Water Snacks is a favorite quick service location at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa that recently reopened its doors. Not only are they serving new menu items for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, this quick service restaurant is now offering Mobile Ordering on the Disneyland app, allowing guests to skip the line and order ahead.

The breakfast menu is large, with a diverse selection of sweet and savory dishes. Entrees range from Belgian Waffles topped with strawberries dusted with powdered sugar, chocolate sauce, strawberry sauce, chantilly cream and fresh mint, Egg White Scramble made up of scrambled egg whites with spinach and asparagus topped with avocado and roasted tomato on Crostini, to the American Breakfast which consists of scrambled eggs with bacon or sausage, served with seasonal fruit or tater bites, and toast. Kids will love the options of a waffle or Breakfast Plate with scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, tater bites, and seasonal fruit.

Lunch and Dinner menu items include the ever popular customizable poke bowls, house-made handcrafted sandwiches, skewers with your choice of chicken, beef, or vegetarian, and so much more!

Artisanal pizzas are also on the menu with four options to choose from- Margherita pizza with tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, basil, roasted tomato, Grana Padana, and aged provolone cheese; Pepperoni pizza; Forest Mushroom pizza with roasted mushrooms, vegetarian sausage, mushroom spread, caramelized onions, fresh mozzarella, Grana Padano, and aged provolone cheese; and the Charcuterie pizza with tomato sauce, pepperoni, prosciutto, salami, fennel sausage, arugula, roasted tomato, Grana Padano, and aged provolone cheese.

Kids can choose between mini corn dog nuggets, parmesan crusted grilled cheese, PBJ&N (nutella!) sandwich, or chicken breast nuggets. These menu items are served with choice of fruit and chips or french fries.

Satisfy your sweet tooth with a Root Beer Float served with root beer soda, vanilla ice cream, and Chantilly cream, or try the Seasonal Crostata with chantilly cream.

New Sea Lion High Show Headed to SeaWorld Orlando

The Sea Lion High show is getting a makeover at SeaWorld Orlando! Sea Lion High: The New Class is going to continue entertaining guests from all over. This hilarious show will take Clyde and Seamore back to school. However, this semester they will be joined by SeaWorld Mime for all the fun! Don’t worry, Opie Otter’s antics and the “splash-tastic” water effects are still a main highlight of the show.

Sea Lion High: The New Class is sure to make you laugh during the new SeaWorld destination show. There will be a Pass Members preview for Sea Lion Hight: The New Class, on Friday, February 1, 2019 at 1 p.m. The seating for the show is limited and is first-come, first-served. All passholders need to do, to enter the show, is show their active Annual Pass at the entry of the stadium.

Disney Channel’s Live-Action Kim Possible Premiers in February

Disney Channel Original Movie “Kim Possible” is premiering February 15 at 8pm EST. The live-action move is based on the beloved animated series. The movie follows everyday teen hero Kim Possible and her best friend Rob Stoppable as they enter into their freshman year of high school–all while still defeating evil villains and protecting the world!

They have their tech-genius friend, Wade, and new friend Athena, joining Team Possible. Kim and Ron have always been able to be one step ahead of their opponents, but balancing high school and their social life, is proving to be more challenging to stay ahead. Kim must rely on her friends and family as Drakken and Shego are still lurking in the wings. It’s time for Team Possible to stop the super villains!

Take a look at the remake of the popular theme song “Call Me, Beep Me!” by Sadie Stanley below! It is written by Corey Lerios and George Gabriel, and produced by Sam Hollander and Grand Michaels. Middleton Productions, a subsidiary of Omnifilm Entertainment, produced “Kim Possible.”
