Netflix Cuts “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage

Netflix Cuts "Iron Fist" and "Luke Cage

Just when the comic book fans of America were about to settle into a new season of Daredevil, some related news broke.  Surprising, unpleasant news.  Netflix confirmed that Luke Cage will not return for a third season.

Netflix Cuts "Iron Fist" and "Luke Cage

A week ago a statement was released regarding Iron Fist, saying it would not return for a third season on Netflix.  But this Luke Cage news feels different.  Though both were released on Friday evenings, the Iron Fist release seems well planned.  It says explicitly that it won’t return on Netflix, giving some hope that it would be coming over to the new Disney streaming service.  They praised the cast and crew and thanked the fans.  Though a show ending is disappointing, this seemed like a gentle, though not altogether surprising announcement.

Friday night, however, it seems the Luke Cage news just hit the fan.  Deadline exclusively reported that, despite the work already put in and both lead actor Mike Colter and showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker still being under contract, the show would not continue.  The season appears to have just disintegrated.  In a joint statement, Marvel and Netflix said, “Unfortunately, Marvel’s Luke Cage will not return for a third season.  Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast, and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series.”

Coker tweeted his farewells early Saturday morning.  He said, “A lot (of) memories.  A lot of individual thank you calls to make.  Just want to say thank you to Marvel, Netflix, the best Writer’s room, cast, crew, the Midnight Hour, all those who graced the stage at Harlem’s Paradise, and the most incredible fan base in the world. Forward always…”

So where does that leave us with the Marvel series?  The Defenders never had a season two order, and we’re left to assume there won’t be one.  The Punisher has already finished filming and is in post-production, so we should get another wild ride with Frank Castle.  Jessica Jones is currently filming; my favorite anti-hero appears to be safe for now.  That leaves Daredevil as the wild card.  Season three was just released on Friday, so if there is a season four, we’re a long way from it.

With roughly half of The Defenders series still standing, only time will tell how long we have to enjoy them.

Keira Knightly Has Concerns About the Message Some Disney Movies Send

Keira Knightly
  1. Keira Knightly

Keira Knightly has recently stated that her daughter isn’t allowed to watch two of Disney’s most iconic animated films: “Cinderella” and “The Little Mermaid”.

In a recent interview with Ellen Degeneres the star, who has had several prominent parts in Disney movies herself, said that she has a problem with the message sent to young girls in these two films.

Her reasoning behind this decision? About Cinderella, she told Ellen, “[Cinderellla] waits around for a rich guy to rescue her. Don’t! Rescue yourself. Obviously!”

With regards to “The Little Mermaid”, she takes issue with the fact that Ariel gives up her voice to be with a man. The decision seems to be firmly rooted in maternal concern rather than any personal dislike for the film. She stated “And this is the one that I’m quite annoyed about because I really like the film. I love The Little Mermaid! That one’s a little tricky – but I’m keeping to it.”

Not all Disney movies are banned from her home. She told Ellen that she adores Dory, (which garnered laughs from the audience as you might expect) and that “Frozen is huge, Moana is totally fine.”
Keira Knightly is best known, in Disney circles, as Elizabeth Turner from The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Notably, she is currently promoting a new Disney film, “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” in which she plays the Sugar Plum Fairy.

Keira Knightly isn’t the only one taking this stand either. Kristen Bell, who plays the voice of Anna In “Frozen”, has come out saying that she is uncomfortable with t ideas expressed in “Snow White”. She hasn’t banned it in her home but did say that she has a talk with her kids after they watch the movie asking questions like “Don’t you think that it’s weird that the prince kisses Snow White without her permission? Because you can not kiss someone if they’re sleeping!”

Disney's Aulani Resort More Than Meets the Eye

Disney’s Aulani Resort and Spa in  Ko Olina Hawaii has so much to tell you. Stories are woven into the plants, carved into the rocks, and the very fabrics that surround you.

For instance the small shrubs with blueberries in Waikolohe Valley. This small plant can be used to dye kapa. The people of old Hawaii used for this to make clothing and even bedding. You can even take classes in the community hall with a kapa practitioner from Wai Anae. Everything, including the activities, really incorporate Hawaiian culture. The outdoor yoga by the lagoon reflects the Hawaiian ideal of harmony with nature. The round glass balls on the garden area’s lights represent the kukui nuts that early Polynesians used to burn in torches.

After Dark Series: Haunted Mansion Holiday at Disneyland Park

After Dark Series: Haunted Mansion Holiday at Disneyland Park

Disney Parks After Dark photography takes us to Haunted Mansion Holiday at Disneyland park. Visiting the Haunted Mansion at Dark is the best time to visit.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas,” and the 18th time that Jack Skellington has visited the 999 Happy Haunts who dwell in the Haunted Mansion, transforming this attraction into Haunted Mansion Holiday. Each year, Jack dresses up as “Sandy Claws” as he and his ghost dog Zero bring ghoulish delights from Halloween Town to visit Disneyland Park.

After Dark Series: Haunted Mansion Holiday at Disneyland Park

One of Jack’s holiday traditions is leaving a special treat for the ghosts who dance around the Haunted Mansion’s Grand Hall. The annual centerpiece for this “waltz of the weird” is always a huge, creepy gingerbread creation. Jack delivers new and thrilling surprises every year.

The Ghost Host of Haunted Mansion Holiday always says, “even a gingerbread house can be scary,” and this year’s design definitely lives up to that description. In 2018, the Haunted Mansion Holiday gingerbread house is overtaken by an enormous five-foot multicolor spider with an intricate “stained glass” design on its back. The creepy crawler’s eyes are glowing green as it bobs up and down in an attempt to pry the house from its foundation. The spider, just like the rest of the house, is made out of 90 pounds of gingerbread, 30 pounds of confectioner’s sugar, 10 pounds of white chocolate and 45 pounds of fondant.

A team of 12 pastry chefs created this year’s Gingerbread Mansion. Three of them have been part of the Haunted Mansion Gingerbread House team since the annual holiday transformation began 17 years ago.

Solar Facility at Disney World is Making Progress

Solar Facility Conservation and environmentalism. These two concepts have always been important to Disney, and have always been evident throughout the companies actions- a tradition began by Walt Disney himself. Recently it seems they have upped their commitment to these practices with several new measures designed to do their part to protect the environment.

Not long ago, Disney began work on a brand new solar facility. When completed this will be the largest such facility on Disney property, coming in at an impressive 270-acres. The 50-megawatt solar facility will, on average, provide enough solar energy to power two entire theme parks with clean, renewable energy. The first of 5,000 total panels have been installed and the project is estimated to be completed in just a few short months.

Solar Panel

As if that wasn’t impressive enough, special care is being taken to make the facility safe for endangered species of butterflies, insects, and bees. Reedy Creek Improvement District and Origis Energy USA who are in charge if the project are working closely with Disney’s Animal, Science, and Environment and Horticulture teams to ensure the site is pollinator friendly.

The New York Times recently did a piece on the facility and mentioned that Disney is a leader in sustainability and environmental stewardship and is blazing a trail for other countries worldwide with its shining example.
