Disneyland Resort Announces $5 Million Dollar Grant To Support Housing Plans In Anaheim

The State of California’s homelessness and housing affordability crisis are impacting nearly every city in the state. Yesterday, Disneyland Resort became the first private donor to the Orange County Housing Trust with a $5 million dollar grant to support housing plans in Anaheim.

“Communities need permanent supportive housing to help address homelessness and the housing affordability challenges impacting nearly every city throughout California,” said Josh D’Amaro, President of Disneyland Resort. “We are proud to support the Orange County Housing Trust with a $5 million grant that will be focused on Anaheim-based projects and look forward to the Trust’s role in addressing this need in our community.”

The newly revitalized Orange County Housing Trust (OCHT) is a non-profit organization working towards increasing the supply and availability of affordable housing in Orange County. With Disneyland Resort’s grant, the Manchester Project will be able to break ground in 2020 on the 102-unit affordable housing development in Anaheim.

“With Orange County’s affordable housing crisis growing to epic proportions, we are so grateful to Disneyland Resort for stepping up to play an important part in solving this issue,” said Helen O’Sullivan, Executive Director of Orange County Housing Trust. “With this generous donation by Disneyland Resort, and matching donations from our business community, we will be able to efficiently bridge the funding gap for this much-needed project and many others in the region, ultimately reducing homelessness and enhancing the quality of life for all Orange County residents.”

Will A Monsters ‘World’ Be A Part of Universal Orlando’s Rumored Fourth Gate

The rumors of a fourth gate coming to Universal Orlando have been making the rounds for a while now. In June of 2018 trademark paperwork was filed with what is expected to be the name of this park, Universal’s Fantastic Worlds. It seemed like an announcement was imminent after what appeared to be a leaked presentation slide showed up this past December with the same name and accompanying artwork. However, the elusive fourth gate has still not been officially announced. It seems though, the source that released the original Fantastic Worlds presentation slide has more beans to spill and has now released what appears to be a very blurry photo of Dracula’s Castle and the name “World’s of Universals Classic Monsters“. All of this begs the question, will a monsters ‘world’ be a part of Universal Orlando’s rumored fourth gate?

Classic monsters aren’t foreign to Universal, of course. Universal Orlando has the Classic Monsters Cafe and nods to these great films with the Revenge of the Mummy attraction and the Horror Make-Up Show. Prior to it’s closing Beetlejuice’s Graveyard Revue included many of these iconic movie “stars” scaring and delighting guests and moviegoers of all generations. The new ‘World” would be a fitting tribute to the important role these characters and films have played in both Universal’s film and theme park history.

So will Dracula’s castle be the newest Orlando theme park castle icon? Will Frankenstein’s monster and The Creature From the Black Lagoon be showing up in photos as the monster movie classics are revived and celebrated? Only time will tell if a Classic Movie Monsters ‘World’ is going to be a part of the rumored Fantastic Worlds at Universal Orlando.

Catal in Downtown Disney Hosts Coppola Wine Pairing Dinner

Catal Restaurant in Downtown Disney District is teaming up with Francis Ford Coppola Winery to host the ultimate wine pairing dinner. This Tuesday, March 12th at 6 pm, guests are invited to come and learn about the entire winemaking process, from grape to bottle. Sommeliers from Coppola Winery will be on hand to talk about their growers in Sonoma County and the artistic influence behind each of their unique wine labels.

The Chefs at Catal will serve a specially curated menu to complement the award-winning wines from Coppola Wineries. Five courses will be served that each reflect the Mediterranian signature flavors that Catal is known for. During the meal, you’ll sample a wide range of wines, from fruity and floral, to earthy and full-bodied. See the full menu and pairings below:

Today is an exciting day over at EPCOT. Spring is being ushered in with the beginning of the EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival! Check out the park maps and the Festival Passport that are being offered to celebrate the festivities. Aren’t they adorable?

New Captain Hook’s Pirate Crew Event at Disney’s Beach Club Resort

Ahoy Mateys! Captain Hook’s Pirate Crew will land at Disney’s Beach Club Resort beginning April 28th!

During this kids-only activity, children ages 4-12 will search for hidden treasure on a boat ride around Crescent Lake. The young pirate crew will have a chance to meet the nefarious Captain Hook and if they’re lucky, they might even get to learn a “secret pirate handshake”.

The event taking place near Epcot at the Beach Club Resort will run from 5pm-8:30pm. This timeline includes the boat ride and a delicious dinner. The price for Captain Hook’s Pirate Crew will be $55 per child plus tax. Full payment will be due at the time of booking.

Guests can call 407-824-5437 to book this nautical adventure. Keep in mind that this event is not currently listed on the Disney website yet.

Ralph Breaks The Internet Directors Think Disney Princess Spin-Off “Worth Exploring”

Ralph Breaks The Internet proved to be a successful sequel to the original 2012 hit Disney film, Wreck-It Ralph. The movie had a focus on satirizing the world wide web and more specifically, Disney’s offerings on the internet. This proved to be the perfect setting to combine their vast catalog of properties and characters for comedic effect. The standout scene for the film ended up being a team-up of the Disney Princesses, and now the directors of the film have commented on the possibility of a spin-off film.

Speaking recently with The A.V. Club, Ralph Breaks The Internet directors Rich Moore, and Phil Johnston commented on how the Disney Princess scene resonated with fans around the globe. It’s even seemed to have sparked talk of the possibility of a standalone film featuring the Princesses. “When you’re in Stockholm and they’re saying like, ‘Have you considered doing a movie just about the Princesses?’ I think it’s an idea worth exploring because everywhere we go, we hear that response. ‘Oh my God, I love the Princesses like that.” said Rich Moore.

While this sounds like a great start, there has been no official word from Disney on if a Princess team-up movie is in the works. Gauging by fan response to the Ralph Breaks The Internet scene though, it’s very likely that Disney already has the concept added to their list of film ideas. It could even be possible that if we do see an Avengers-style Princess property, it might be for the upcoming Disney+ streaming service. We’ve already gotten word of a Disney Villains show in development, and a Disney Princess series or movie could easily find a suitable home on the platform. This is all speculation though, and we will be sure to bring you any news on a Disney Princess spin-off if it’s announced.

The highly anticipated Maleficent sequel has just been given a name and release date. “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,” the sequel to Disney’s “Maleficent,” will be released nationwide October 18, 2019.

Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning reprise their roles as the dark fairy Maleficent and Princess Aurora, respectively, two characters from the studio’s animated classic “Sleeping Beauty,” whose untold story was brought to life on screen in “Maleficent.”

Construction Widening Magic Kingdom Pathway Leading From Cinderella’s Castle To Tomorrowland Completed

The construction walls have been removed and a new, wider pathway has made its debut!

This pathway is located in Magic Kingdom. If you are looking at Cinderella’s Castle when entering the park, it is the pathway on the right. This pathway connects Cinderella’s Castle to the entrance of Tomorrowland. (Highlighted in red in the photo above.)

This path was notorious for the bottlenecking that would occur. With a wider path, there is now more than enough room for everyone. Hopefully, the bottlenecking will subside in this area, leaving guests with plenty of room to find Cinderella’s Wishing Well as well as walk from one location to the other!

This construction is just one of the many improvements and updates that are being made to prepare for the upcoming 50th-anniversary celebration.

Once Upon a Time at Disneyland Paris- A Tale of Hidden Numbers!

Disneyland Paris News posted an interesting article about hidden mysteries on their set. The mystery is the hidden numbers which pay homage to the invention and the inventors of the Disney Parks!

For example, Walt Disney’s birth year which is “1901” can be found on the front Disney Clothiers, Ltd and on some floor elements on Main Street, USA, along with the first name of Walt’s father, Elias. At Disney Studio 1, above the Hollywood Jewel Box entrance door, “12 05” can be read. “12 05” is Walt Disney’s birthday but written in the American way with the month before the day, meaning Walt Disney’s birthday is the 5th December! Therefore when you walk down Main Street USA at Disneyland Paris that you can find Walt’s entire date of birth, December 5th 1901. Likewise, you can also find this memorable date on a licence plate of the truck parked at Backlot!

The number 92 can be found throughout the park on their sets as it the opening year of Disneyland Paris! On the front of Emporium and Harrington’s Fine China and Porcelains, the Imagineers carefully set the date 100 years in the past to be 1892, which is in keeping with the Victorian atmosphere, which is the running theme of Main Street USA. “14 01 Flower Street”, featured on the front of Walt’s – an American Restaurant, this pays homage to the Walt Disney Imagineering offices, as it is their address in Glendale, California.

Ear-resistible Disney Castle Ears Now Available on shopDisney

The sensational Disney Castle Ears have arrived on shopDisney! These gorgeous ears are not only full of sparkle, but are also available in a Sleeping Beauty Castle, or Cinderella Castle design! That means no matter which Disney Park you call home, you’ll have a pair of castle ears to coordinate with.

The soft padded ears are dripping in silver micro sequins, while a metallic gold bow sits between the ears for a stunning contrast. Nestled in the middle of each bow is Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella Castle embellishment with rhinestones. It’s a subtle touch, but the inside of each headband is lined in a gold toned velour too, which gives them an extra touch of elegance.

Although the difference isn’t huge, you can definitely tell that the Castle embellishments are different! It really is nice to see the castles recognized as different even if they are silhouettes. These sparkly gold and silver ears retail for $27.99, and are available online at shopDisney.com in addition to being available at the Disney Parks.

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day At Raglan Road’s Mighty St. Patrick’s Festival

No dining location at Walt Disney World more perfectly transports you to another locale with an immersive experience like Raglan Road in Disney Springs. Come in, grab a Guinness and feel like your stepping right into a rousing pub in Ireland.

If you’re looking for the best time of year to visit Raglan Road, it must be St. Patricks Day. Their annual Mighty St. Patrick’s Day Festival will be held this year from March 15-17th. Here’s what you can look forward to:

Authentic Irish Food

Raglan Road has a fantastic line up of Irish dishes, including a twist on the classic Bangers and Mash (sausage and mashed potatoes), served with a Guinness infused reduction. The “In Cod’s Way” is a pan-seared north Atlantic cod with lemon, herb crusted potatoes, garden peas, with a tomato and caper butter sauce. There’s the classic fish and chips option if you’re looking for something simpler. Wash it all down with their selection of whiskeys, cocktails or beers on-tap.

Live Entertainment

While live music and dancing are always on the menu at Raglan Road, the Festival packs-in famous Irish acts from across the globe. The line-up includes the adorable and amazingly talented Byrne Brothers! Dempsey (age 9), Finn (age 12) and Luca (age 14) play alongside their father Tommy and travel the world sharing both authentic and original Irish tunes. Rounding out the talent are the Young Dubliners, one of Celtic rock’s hardest working bands and the festival headliner; Ben Gunnery, Irish music superstar and multi-instrumentalist; and Briste, a female duo with a mix of country, folk, and Irish traditional music. Don’t forget the set by The Raglan Roots Coalition, the amazing house band.

Family Fun

There’s always fun to be had when dining at Raglan Road. Guests are treated to dinner and a show every night, by some of the worlds most talented dancers and musicians. They’ll also be performing throughout the festival, and take time to show aspiring dancers some steps during dinner.

So join in on the Wearin’ of the Green during the St. Patricks Day Festival starting March 15th from 3pm-9pm, and March 16 & 17 from 10am-8pm. On March 17th, guests will be seated first come, first serve, and a cover charge of $10 will apply for guests 18 and over.
