Disney Addicts Weekly Roundup For The Week of March 1, 2021

The Best Places to Shop on Your Disney World Vacation

We have officially made it through the first week of March. Nearly one year ago was when lives were turned upside down as the Covid 19 pandemic started to hit. It is crazy to reflect back on what a year it has been. Things are definitely starting to move in the right direction and Disney World has remained open since the reopening in July. It looks as though Disneyland Resort may also be heading toward reopening and we are so excited. Every week we at Chip & co. and Disney Addicts bring you the latest Disney news, tips, and tricks. Here is our Weekly Roundup in case you missed anything this week!

The Best Places to Shop on Your Disney World VacationThere are so many things to look forward to about a Walt Disney World vacation. Visiting parks, the amazing food, and of course shopping! While we all know that there are countless places to shop inside the parks, there are also many great shopping opportunities outside of the parks too! Let’s take a look at some of my favorite places to shop at Disney World.

Sugar Rush Needs to Replace Tomorrowland Speedway in the Magic KingdomFor decades, the Tomorrowland Speedway has given children a chance to drive their very own car on a fun and scenic track. Even though this attraction is still operating in Tomorrowland, we think it’s overdue for a major upgrade. After all, we can certainly think of one better replacement…a speedway resigned after Wreck-It Ralph’s Sugar Rush game!

Why we need a Tiana’s Place Restaurant at the Theme ParksIf there is one restaurant Disney fans are dying to dine at, it’s gotta be Tiana’s Place! The only problem is, this restaurant does not exist.

Celebrating the Anniversary of Chip ‘n’ Dale Rescue Rangers– “Ch-ch-ch-Chip ‘N’ Dale! Rescue Rangers!” Can you believe it’s been 31 years since this show first aired on TV?! Chip ‘N’ Dale Rescue Rangers premiered on March 4, 1989. Those who grew up watching Saturday morning cartoons will remember this classic show! DuckTales, Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop, and Gummi Bears were some of the classic Disney Afternoon shows of the 1980s/1990s era. But Chip ‘N’ Dale Rescue Rangers was certainly a great cartoon series on its own right! We celebrate their 31st anniversary by remembering Chip ‘N’ Dale Rescue Rangers.

Aerial View of Parked Minnie Van Fleet Not in Service

Parked Minnie Vans

Have you been wondering where all those adorable Minnie Vans at Walt Disney World have gone? Aerial photos show that they haven’t traveled far, in fact, they are currently parked in the EPCOT parking lot. Since the Minnie Van service is temporarily unavailable, these vehicles have nothing better to do than wait.

Related – Disney shares update on Minnie Van Service for Airport Transfers

Earlier rumors that these vans were for sale at a local dealership have already been debunked. But in case you needed proof, here are recent photographs of the vans parked on Disney property. I guess you’ll have to find another way to make your ride more Disney-fied. It appears that the vans are driven around from time to time to make sure they stay in working order.

Related – Disney World’s Minnie Van Service Cast Members Laid off, future of service uncertain

The Minnie Van service has been suspended since Walt Disney World’s closing in March 2020. During its operation, the service worked in partnership with the Lyft app. Guests at the airport or on Walt Disney World property could conveniently request a ride to any place on property. The service was Disney-owned and provided by an official Cast Member. Pricing varied depending on the distance traveled. For those wanting to make every detail Disney, this rideshare service was the perfect touch.

As of now, there is no word as to when this service might resume. We can only wait and hope that Minnie Vans will soon be driving guests around Walt Disney World Resort again. It may be fun to see the fleet from above, but we miss seeing these sweet rides out and about!

Star Wars Fans are Shocked After Learning Many Iconic Scenes in the Original Trilogy Were Paintings

Artists at work on Star Wars Backdrops

Star Wars Fans are Shocked After Learning Many Iconic Scenes in the Original Trilogy Were Paintings. It’s no secret that the first Star Wars film was made with minimal resources, and required a dedicated crew of filmmakers due to its innovative form of storytelling, but this week even the biggest of Star Wars fans are finding their minds blown after a viral post shared the “behind the scenes” look at the creation of various paintings that were staple scenes in the original Star Wars trilogy (Episodes 4-6).

Related: George Lucas Joins Writing and Production Team for Disney+ ‘Star Wars’ Series

Artist and Teacher Josiah King featured a quote on social media from Nick Legere-Filtranti who previously shared, “Before the computing era, ILM was the master of oil matte painting, making audiences believe that some of the sets in the original Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogy were real when they weren’t. They were the work of geniuses like Chris Evans, Michael Pangrazio, Frank Ordaz, Harrison Ellenshaw and Ralph McQuarrie! A Forever thank you, to their handmade art and the work of their colleagues, that made us dream of impossible worlds and fantastic places on earth and across the Universe.”

Obviously, the paintings were used as backdrops, with overlaps of live-action footage filmed by Lucasfilm, but that doesn’t detract from the absolute dedication and talent it took to make such believable backdrops that have fooled even the most dedicated fans of cinema for decades!

T.I. Removed from ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ Cast After Sexual Abuse Allegations

T.I. Harris in Ant-Man

T.I. Removed from ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania‘ Cast After Sexual Abuse Allegations. Rapper T.I. Harris and wife Tameka “Tiny” Harris have been accused by multiple women who claim the couple is guilty of sexual abuse, forced ingestion of illegal narcotics, kidnapping, false imprisonment, intimidation, assault and harassment.

Related: Evangeline Lilly is Ready to Film for ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’

Though T.I. and Tiny have denied these allegations and through their lawyer claim, “Clifford (T.I.) and Tameka Harris (Tiny) deny in the strongest possible terms these unsubstantiated and baseless allegations. We are confident that if these claims are thoroughly and fairly investigated, no charges will be forthcoming.” the rapper is now absent from the cast list for Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania from Marvel Studios.

It is currently unknown if T.I. made the call to cancel his further involvement in the Ant-Man franchise or if Marvel Studios let the actor and rapper go. Though Scott’s buddies appeared in the Ant-Man films, the only confirmed reprisal from the troupe was Michael Peña’s “Luis”, so there is a chance T.I. was never meant to be on the Ant-Man 3 payroll.

Could Alaska Cruises be returning soon?

Could Alaska Cruises be returning soon?

Cruises set to sail to Alaska this summer are currently in limbo. The Canadian government has banned cruise ships from entering Canadian waters through February 2022. Alaska senators have now introduced a bill that would allow Alaskan cruises to resume.

U.S. maritime law requires ships flagged in foreign countries to make an international stop during sailings. Alaska senators Murkowski and Sullivan have introduced a Bill that would allow ships to sail to Alaska without requiring a stop in Canada.

Could Alaska Cruises be returning soon?

The “Alaska Tourism Recovery Act” legislation will hopefully relieve restrictions in place as a result of the Passenger Vessel Services Act.

“Canada’s recent decision to prohibit Alaska-bound cruise ships from operating in Canadian waters creates legal hurdles that will hamstring the Alaska cruise season, creating additional economic strain on Alaska’s entire economy, especially in our Southeast communities,” Murkowski said.

The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure has also sent a letter to the Canadian ambassador to the U.S. asking Canada to reevaluate its cruise ban. The committee suggested allowing ships to stop in Canadian ports without passengers disembarking.

Related – Alaska Cruises Removed from Disney Cruise Line Website for Booking

Disney Cruise Line has not canceled its Alaskan sailings yet. Disney is evaluating various options for the Disney Wonder’s summer Alaska cruises.

We will continue to monitor and update when more information is made available. Stay tuned to Chip & Co!
