Raya and the Last Dragon comes in first at the Box Office for the third consecutive week. Though movie theaters are just beginning to reopen their doors nearly a year after the global shutdown due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Disney’s new animated feature film, Raya and the Last Dragon managed to snag the #1 spot at the box office, earning $71.2 Million globally since its release.
Domestically, the film only brought in $5.1 million over the course of the weekend, but that is much better than most films that have tried to brave a theater release with a majority of theaters still shuttered or in this case refused to screen the film after Disney’s refusal to offer exhibitors a larger cut of box office revenue. Theater chains such as Cinemark and others refused to screen the film due to the conflict over earnings.
Raya and the Last Dragon
Regardless, the film has been performing well, and it is currently unknown how many Disney+ subscribers bought into the $29.99 Premier Access digital release, which may swing the numbers in Disney’s favor. The film was said to cost the animation studios around $100 Million to make and produce, but taking the pandemic into account and realizing a good amount of the film was recorded and finished from the homes of the cast and crew, we would say the movie is still a crowning achievement for Disney and we can’t wait for audiences to love Raya just as much as we did!

In international markets where Disney+ is not yet available, the film will be released theatrically, with premiere dates to be announced.
Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, Disney and Pixar’s original feature film “Luca” is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: they are sea monsters from another world just below the water’s surface.

According to Disney, the enhancements include several new scenes guests will experience along the river, all interconnected. The new scenes will heighten the skippers’ legendary comedic tone, beginning with a trapped safari party that finds itself up a tree after their journey goes awry. Unexpected scenarios along the way will give the jungle and animals the last laugh!

Brightline High-Speed Train is not expected to connect to Disney World (Disney Springs) until at least 2026 according to a report from the Orlando Business Journal.
Today Brightline has refined the timeline for the Orlando to Disney World 17 mile Expansion.
The route to Disney from Orlando International Airport would cost $1.03 billion-$2.1 billion, depending on which alignment is selected, and the company hopes to start service on the segment as early as third-quarter 2026. The full Tampa extension could start service by 2028 or 2029, according to Michael Cegelis, executive vice president of rail infrastructure for Brightline.
Brightline’s Orlando extension project which covers 170-miles from West Palm Beach to Orlando International Airport and will connect Miami to Orlando via high-speed rail is expected to be completed in late 2022.
This should be interesting with Disney’s Magical Express no longer offering free service from the Orlando Airport to the Disney World Resorts starting in 2022 that leaves a 4-year window of guests using private service shuttles to get from MCO to WDW.
This morning the Magic Kingdom was testing a new Facial Recognition method for theme park entry on a strictly volunteer basis.
Starting today through April 23rd guests can opt to use this new ticketing service. This is the newest addition to the touchless entry into the Disney World Theme Parks.
For the Facial Recognition guests enter the Testing Lane and must remove any hats, visors, or sunglasses before passing through, you must also keep your mask on.
Last year Disney World rolled out the full-body security scanners instead of bag check which allow guests to walk through the security scanner before gaining admittance to the theme parks. LOVE THEM!
Gone are the days of having Disney Security go through your bags. Sometimes I will still get pulled aside if I have my laptop with me but for the most part, I hold my phone and battery pack in front of me and walkthrough.
Here is the full information from Disney on the Facial Recognition test.
At Walt Disney World Resort, we’re always looking for innovative and convenient ways to improve our Guests’ experience—especially as we navigate the impact of COVID-19.
With the future in mind and the shift in focus to more touchless experiences, we’re conducting a limited 30-day test using facial recognition technology (length of test subject to change). The technology we’re testing captures an image of a Guest’s face and converts it into a unique number, which is then associated with the form of admission being used for park entry. Participation in this test is optional. For those interested in volunteering to participate in this effort, please make sure you arrive with valid theme park admission and a Disney Park Pass reservation.
Note: children under the age of 18 who wish to participate may do so with the consent and in the presence of a parent or guardian.
What to Expect
Step 1: Enter the Facial Recognition Technology Test Lane When you’re ready to enter the park, simply enter the lane designated for the test program.
Step 2: Remove Accessories, But Keep Your Face Covering in Place Please take off any hats, visors or sunglasses before you approach the facial recognition test zone. Your face covering must remain on at all times.
Step 3: Face the Camera Once in the facial recognition test zone, stand facing the camera and then position your valid park admission or MagicBand close to the scanner to activate the technology. The technology will capture an image, which will be converted into a unique number that will be associated with your valid ticket media. You’re All Set!
If you return to Magic Kingdom park during our limited-time test, consider entering using the same designated entry points. Re-entering through the same lanes helps us better understand how the technology works.
Important Details
The security, integrity, and confidentiality of your information are extremely important to us. We have implemented technical, administrative, and physical security measures that are designed to protect Guest information from unauthorized access, disclosure, use and modification. Please be aware that, despite our best efforts, no security measures are perfect or impenetrable.
Images and the associated unique numbers captured for this technology test will be discarded within 30 days after the test concludes. We will not share the images and unique numbers captured for this test with third parties.
Participation in this test is optional and limited. Guests who have valid theme park admission and a Disney Park Pass reservation may use another line for park entry.
We are unsure if this new Facial Recognition method will replace Magic bands and the new MagicMobile service. Stay tuned for more details.
