Take A Look- Mickey & Minnie’s New Celebration Outfits

As parks around the world gear up to celebrate 90 years of Mickey, new outfits for the “Move It! Shake It! MousekeDance It! Street Party,” have been revealed! So many special events and surprises are planned and we are so happy to share a peek at some of the ensembles the famous mouse couple will wear at to celebrate 90 Years of Mickey! You can catch them dressed in their birthday best at Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort, Hong Kong Disneyland, Shanghai Disney Resort and on the Disney Cruise line.  These outfits are so festive and colorful and fun.

Mickey Mouse’s fresh white suite is sprinkled with a dazzling array of rainbow confetti. Our classic fashion icon Minnie Mouse has a complimenting dress with the same stunning decoration. Her puffed sleeves are just perfect for her cheery style. Pom-poms are a sweet accent and her adorable bubble skirt finish off her dreamy dress.  The new outfits will be seen at Walt Disney World Resort in “Move It! Shake It! MousekeDance It! Street Party,” opening January 18 during Mickey & Minnie’s Surprise Celebration at Magic Kingdom Park – a limited-time celebration that will include new entertainment, merchandise, and specialty food and beverage.

They will also be featured at:

  • Hong Kong Disneyland beginning November 18
  • Shanghai Disneyland on November 18 only
  • Disneyland Resort beginning January 2019
  • Disney Cruise Line summer 2019

Blizzard Beach Refurbishment Dates Released

Blizzard Beach Closing For Annual Refurbishment

The Walt Disney World Resort has announced the upcoming closure schedule for their Blizzard Beach Water Park.  Blizzard Beach will be closed from Sunday October 28, 2018 through Saturday January 5, 2019 for it’s annual refurbishment. These refurbishments are done annually to make sure that guests have the best experiences possible in the resort’s parks. During this time, guests are still able to enjoy Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.

Transportation Changes Blizzard Beach Winter Summerland

Once the Blizzard Beach water park has been refurbished, Disney World’s Typhoon Lagoon will undergo it’s annual refurbishment.  The Disney World resort schedules these refurbishments so that there is always at least one of their water parks open and running (weather dependent).

As always, we here at Chip and Company will make sure that you have the most current listings of resort and park closures as well as refurbishments to help guide you during your resort stays.

These dates were provided by the Disney Travel Agents website. As with all refurbishments and closures, these dates are subject to change.  Make sure that you stay tuned to Chip and Company for all of the latest updates and information.

Previously we reported that World of Disney will be the first of many Disney World stores to offer the recyclable bags in replacement of plastic. Now they have a sturdier option for all our purchases. At just $1, I can take additional bags home to use for gift giving. No more paper gift bags for me.   Awesome for the recipient, they get a gift and a long-lasting carryall too!  Currently, these bags are available at World of Disney Stores (Disney Springs and Downtown Disney only)  They will be available throughout the parks later. No specific date available at writing. 

As we mentioned in the piece on the reimagined World Of Disney stores, these handy sacks are more durable than previous versions.  They are made from 80% recycled materials and are more environmentally friendly.  This change is right in line with the broader goal of making a significant reduction in single-use plastics by mid-2019.  Way to go Disney!

Have you caught a glimpse of the new designs on Disney Vacation Club’s  (aka DVC) van fleet? Cinderella , Buzz & Woody , and Mickey & Minnie now envelope most of the vans. They should all be wrapped before too long, so keep your eye out for these unique transport vans.

Drivers load strollers fully packed with diaper bags and drinks intact. No need to fold them down. The back of the van has plenty of room for even the biggest baby buggy. Vans are also equipped with a car seat for little Mousketeers. I watched as the driver even helped buckle the kiddies in. So, if you’ve been wanting to take a tour of DVC, reserve one today. Fun and painless process and just maybe the gateway to an annual vacation destination. Nothing makes you feel more immersed in the Disney family, than owning a part of DVC.

Disney Vacation Club Van Fleet Gets Magical New Look

I talked with Larry, a driver for DVC. He said they have a fleet of 30-32 vans in use, on any given day. He said the drivers’ favorite is the Buzz & Woody wrap. Drivers are assigned vehicles randomly, but the driver that gets assigned to Woody, gets a big smile across their face. Buzz & Woody seems to be the hands down favorite, with the drivers. Wraps cost about 10K per van, but will be worth it. I watched little kids, who normally would not be too thrilled with going on a tour, ask for Moms to take their pics, before clambering into the vans.

Child Mistakes Bride for Cinderella During Wedding Photo Session

In the small sleepy town of Akron, NY a real-life Disney fairytale was brought to life. Olivia Spark was in Akron Falls Park on her wedding day shooting her wedding photos with the beautiful falls behind her when she heard little Layla call out “Cinderella!” See the details of this adorable tale here:

“I would like to share this story from yesterday in hopes of finding a woman and her daughter from Akron. My son Caleb and his new bride, Olivia, stopped at Akron Falls park for photos after their wedding ceremony, about 4:00pm. While they were walking through the park, they heard a little voice yelling “Cinderella, wait!”. A little girl, about 4 years old, came running to Olivia with her arms opened wide. The little girl was autistic and was so overjoyed to be seeing “Cinderella”. She told Olivia she was beautiful and wanted to touch her dress. My son, and daughter in law and their wedding party were moved to tears by this little girl. Their photographer took photos of the little girl and they spent some time with her. Then Cinderella explained that they had to go because she had a ball to get to. Olivia and Caleb would like to find this mother and her daughter so that they can give her some photos from yesterday for this little girl to keep. Please share this with anyone you may know from Akron in hopes of finding her. Thank you.” the groom’s mom, Angela Spark

It didn’t take long at all! Within hours the little girl was found on social media!  The bride had a sweet reunion at the location back at Akron Falls Park to have some additional photos done too!  This story is especially sweet for me because this all happened in my backyard. I am born and raised in Akron, NY and the park where these photos are taken has lots of history including the “Cinderella Pumpkin Carriage” that brides from all over come to have photos in.

PIXAR President Ed Catmull to Retire Next Year

Ed Catmull, President of Walt Disney and PIXAR Animation Studios since 2006 has announced he will retire next year.

Catmull, age 73, first began with Lucasfilm’s computer division in 1979. He was hired by none other than George Lucas. In 1986, he co-founded PIXAR with Steve Jobs and John Lasseter. He has overseen numerous films, including Disney’s Frozen and Disney/PIXAR’s Up.

 

Bob Iger, Disney’s Chairman and CEO said in a statement that Catmull’s impact on the world of entertainment has been “immeasurable.”

No replacement has been named as of yet. Catmull will remain in an advisory role for Disney and PIXAR through July of 2019.

By now it’s no secret that I’m obsessed with Disney snacks, especially Mickey shaped one! The Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar is not only one of my favorites to eat, but I love anything showcasing it. So this Unofficial Taste Tester: Mickey Mouse Ice Cream Bar Button is definitely calling my name.

This button also has a slight Starbucks look to it, which I also love. The centerpiece of the button is a yummy looking Mickey Ice Cream Bar, that stands out against the white and green background. A green circle surrounds the Mickey ice cream and says “Unofficial Taste Tester”, with a couple of Mickey icons.

One of my favorite things about these buttons is you can also get them with a magnet, or easel option. Why is that so awesome you ask? Because you can display your button when you aren’t wearing it! The magnet, and easel are both detachable so you can display or wear the button when ever you like.

Disney Talks to Re-Boot Pirates of the Caribbean

Disney is looking into possibly bringing another film to the  “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.  Today it was reported that Disney met with the “Deadpool” writing team of Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick. Could a new Pirate adventure be in the future? I wonder what the chances of Johnny Depp or the previous cast coming back for a reprisal of their roles.  What are your thoughts on a re-boot of the franchise?

The five previous “Pirates” movies hauled $1.5 billion domestically and $3.07 billion internationally, with the North American market representing a progressively smaller share. The domestic total for 2017’s “Dead Men Tell No Tales” hit $172 million, while foreign markets delivered $622 million.

All five films have grossed more than $650 million worldwide, with “Dead Man’s Chest” and “On Stranger Tides” both topping the $1 billion mark.

“Dead Men Tell No Tales” centered on Johnny Depp’s swashbuckling Jack Sparrow battling deadly ghost sailors, led by the Javier Bardem’s Captain Salazar. Kaya Scodelario and Brenton Thwaites joined the cast, with Orlando Bloom returning as Will Turner and Geoffrey Rush as Captain Hector Barbossa. Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, who teamed on “Kon-Tiki,” directed the movie, with Jerry Bruckheimer producing. Reese and Wernick wrote both “Deadpool” movies, with Ryan Reynolds joining them on the “Deadpool 2” script. They also penned “Life,” “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” and both “Zombieland” pics.

PizzeRizzo Now Closed - Reopen is Unsure

We have bad news to report… PizzeRizzo is now closed. The restaurant has closed as part of a seasonal closure. PizzeRizzo is located in  Hollywood Studios. The restaurant took over the Pizza Planet location in November 2016 and the theming was part of a rework of the Muppets Courtyard.  Much of this area of Hollywood Studios is also closed for the Star Wars redevelopment.

The closure and uncertain reopen date may come as no surprise to some park visitors. The restaurant has seen a decline in guests and has made a reduction in their operating hours as a result.  At this time, there is no word on when PizzeRizzo will reopen.

PizzeRizzo Now Closed - Reopen is Unsure

Alas, may have to find another location to enjoy their delicious Italian meatball sub. Oh, the soft hoagie roll and perfectly seasoned meatballs smothered in tangy marinara and melted provolone cheese. With so many other choices for dining at Disney, it wont be long before I find a suitable replacement. Maybe I will check out Dockside Diner. I hear they serve a Carolina All-beef foot-long hotdog.  I am a Carolina girl and I love a hot dog topped with coleslaw. Trust me on this one. I think I will check out Disney’s version of our local style dog when I am at Hollywood Studios in November. Stay tuned to Chip and Co for my review of this southern favorite.
