A variety of new experiences are coming soon to Walt Disney World Resorts, from art classes to fishing excursions, to exciting swashbuckling pirate experiences and mermaid school- perfect for those seeking exciting adventures outside the parks!

Captain Hook’s Pirate Crew at Disney’s Beach Club Resort

Avast ye swabs! Reservations are now open for a new experience calling all young pirates aged 4 to 12 to answer the call and become immersed into the world of pirate feasting, treasure seeking, sailing the seas and some swashbucklin’ fun! Introducing the new Captain Hook’s Pirate Crew at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, where young guests can live out their pirate dreams, following cues to hidden treasure and even join Captain Hook’s Pirate Crew! Armed with cues, young pirates will search through the resort and set sail on a pontoon boat around Crescent Lake, in the latest sea adventure at Disney’s Beach Club Resort! Once the treasure has been found, young pirates will be invited to a celebratory Pirate feast with delicious food such as Cannon Meatballs with marinara or macaroni and “gold” sauce for entrees, along with a treasure chest treat or fruit for dessert. Captain Hook’s Pirate Crew is priced at $55 per child (plus tax); the adventures begin April 28. For more information or to book a reservation, call 407-824-KIDS.

Mermaid School

Dreams are now coming true as guests can become part of Ariel’s world at the Mermaid School at select Walt Disney World resort hotels. Mermaids aged 4 and older can enjoy an hour-long class where they will be fitted with a magical swimmable “tail” and taught how to swim like a mermaid. The Mermaid School will be offered on selected dates at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts. Classes are $50/person (plus tax). Bookings will open mid-March through 407-WDW-PLAY.

Cabanas at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts

Reservations for the new poolside cabanas at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts are now open, where guests can soak up the Florida sun in luxury. These private hideaways are exclusive to Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts and provide an extensive list of services including:

Padded furniture (chairs and couch)
Dedicated Disney cast member service
Cocktail service
Mounted television with cable access
Complimentary sunscreen and other skin care products
Mini-refrigerator stocked with complimentary soda and water
Complimentary fruit tray
Plush towels
Lockable cabinet
Charging outlets for mobile devices

These new cabanas are exclusively for guests staying at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts. Reservations for half and full day rentals are now open for dates beginning March 17 through 407-WDW-PLAY.

New Art Programs

New to selected Walt Disney World resort hotels are the art master classes led by professional artists, inspiring guests to create their own masterpieces. The classes range from $35 (plus tax) to $50 (plus tax) per person, offered to ages 12 and older for most experiences.

Wild About Painting, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
Painting on de’ Bayou (adults), Painting by the Lagoon (kids), Disney’s Port Orleans – French Quarter Resort. NOTE: children’s painting class is $30 per person (plus tax); designed for ages 6 and older; accompanying parent required.
Painting in the Vineyard, Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts
Canvas and Wine Glass Painting on the Boards, Disney’s BoardWalk Inn

Fishing Excursions

Love fishing? Calling seasoned sportsmen or amateur anglers, to experience guided excursions or dockside fishing in the waterways of Walt Disney World Resort, fun for guests of all ages. Why not board the 21-foot SunTracker pontoon (which carries up to five guests) or a tournament-style NITRO bass-fishing boat (for one or two participants), to explore Disney waters and see what lies beneath! Outings are typically two or four hours and are catch-and-release. The fleet has been joined by a new NITRO ZV21, operating out of the Magic Kingdom marinas. Earl of Sandwich Debuts Shrimp Po Boy

Earl of Sandwich has released their newest monthly sandwich, the Shrimp Po Boy, and it is dynamite!

The Shrimp Po Boy is stuffed with crispy shrimp and topped with lettuce, tomato, pickles and Srirarcha mayonnaise, and is served on artisan bread.

Earl of Sandwich is a great restaurant to visit if you’re looking for a delicious sandwich. There are locations at both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort. Poolside Cabanas Now at Yacht & Beach Club Resorts

Visiting Walt Disney World is all about the magic! Many guests take advantage of staying in the resort of their dreams and enjoying every amenity they offer. Making it to the top of the list in luxury are the new poolside cabanas at Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. The cabanas are an outdoor sanctuary that enhance the magic of Walt Disney World!

The cabanas have been added to Stormalong Bay, the shared pool for Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, to begin reserving March 17, 2019. They are available to rent for a full or half-day to resort guests only, and you can add private dining for an additional cost to your cabana rental. The pricing structure will depend on the time of year, but the range is $149 – $199 for a half day and $249 – $299 for a full day. The cabanas can accommodate up to six people.

The Mexico pavilion has always been one of my favorite parts of World Showcase (hello Avocado Margaritas!), but it just keeps getting better and better. Miguel and The Story of Coco have officially arrived in Epcot’s Mexico pavilion as part of the Flower and Garden Festival.

The roaming mariachi group, Mariachi Cobre, began sharing the Story of Coco– the tale of young Miguel Rivera and his passion for music on March 6th. Joined by Folklorico dancers, the performers are bringing the heartwarming story of Miguel and his familia to life through everyone’s favorites songs from the film.

Something colorful is popping up at the Lotus House booth at the Flower & Garden Festival. This outdoor kitchen is not only serving up specialties line Szechuan Spicy Beef Shank and “Panda” Bubble Tea, but you have to check out the Chinese Cotton Candy that’s being hand-made on-site!

The most breathtaking bloom in the bunch is definitely the 5-layered Spring Fantasy. Not only is it a colorful and tasty treat, but it’s so insta-worthy! And the blooms are huge – so bring a friend and share the sweets.

These artistic masterpieces are hand-crafted right in front of you when you place your order. Because of that, Chinese Cotton Candy is not a regular menu item and are only available when a candy artisan is available. Even if you aren’t a big fan of cotton candy, be sure to stop by if an artisan is crafting these treats. It’s a really amazing process to watch!

The Epcot Flower and Garden Festival is happening now until June 3rd. Access to the festival’s events and offerings is included in park admission.

Disney+ Will Feature Entire Disney Movie Library

We have some amazing news for the upcoming Disney+ streaming service. During yesterday’s annual shareholder meeting, CEO Bob Iger announced that all Disney movies will be included in the new platform. This will also include films that have traditionally been kept in the Disney Vault and were only periodically released to the public for short periods.

In the past fans have had to wait for their favorite classic Disney films to be released from the vault for purchase. This method proved frustrating for viewers wanting to add a classic film to their collection or share a timeless film with newer generations. That business model is about to change though, and fans will soon have the ability to watch any and all of their favorite Disney classics whenever they want. Adding this news to already announced new Disney+ shows and movies like The Mandalorian and a Disney Villains Show will surely put the service at the forefront of the streaming market. It was recently predicted that the service’s membership will eventually be larger than that of current streaming king Netflix.

We still don’t have official word on when Disney+ will make its debut to the public, but Disney has said it will be available by the end of the year. It’s also not known exactly when the full catalog of Disney films will be added to the lineup. We will be sure to bring you any new updates to Disney+ as they are released.

Disney+ Subscribers Predicted to Outnumber Netflix

2019 is shaping up to be a very big year for Disney. There are major expansions coming to the theme parks, acquisition of 20th Century Fox and a rollout of the company’s first streaming service Disney+. Disney has kept a lot of specifics for the platform under wraps but has been slowly trickling out details to increase public interest. It seems that tactic is paying off as experts are now predicting Disney+’s membership numbers to be higher than that of Netflix.

J.P. Morgan Analyst Alexia Quadrani recently commented to clients that Disney+ membership is expected to reach 160 million subscribers worldwide. This prediction would put the service above Netflix which currently has 139 million subscribers to the service. “While there is little question there are more direct-to-consumer services today than ultimately should survive, we have no doubt that Disney+ remains on the short list of products that should prevail longer-term. Our confidence in the resilient success of Disney+ comes from the company’s unmatched brand recognition, extensive premium content, and unparalleled ecosystem to market the service.”, Quadrani said. While this prediction bodes well for Disney+, it will most likely take them years to distribute the service worldwide and ramp up to those membership numbers.

These predictions come as little surprise when given Disney’s vast catalog of properties it’s planning to bring to the service. It was announced recently that Disney would be pulling all of their content from Netflix and moving them over to Disney+. Combining that with the shows and movies already in development specifically for the platform, Disney+ is definitely shaping up to be a behemoth in an evergrowing crowd of streaming services.

Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival is currently in full swing and we are loving all of the beautiful topiaries, workshops, concerts and of course the amazing food! Every year the park brings out new items that quickly become guest favorites, and this year is no exception. Sometimes the best treats aren’t on the beaten festival path and we’ve got a treat from this year’s offerings that you won’t find at any of the designated outdoor kitchens.

The Earl Grey cupcake is certainly one of the cutest options for the festival and can be found at Sunshine Seasons in the Land area of Epcot. This delectable little cake is an Earl Grey flavored cupcake filled with a tasty orange and honey center. The cupcake is then topped with Honeybell tangelo buttercream frosting and garnished with real honeycomb and bee pollen. The dessert is finished with a cute chocolate bee with almond slices for wings.

The sweetness of the buttercream and orange honey filling really help to balance the earl grey flavor and the cupcake is sure to please honey connoisseurs. Those guests will want to make sure they also stop by The Honey Bee-stro outdoor kitchen in World Showcase. This outdoor kitchen features other divine honey dishes like the Local Wildflower Honey-mascarpone Cheesecake with Orange Blossom Honey Ice Cream.

The Earl Grey Cupcake is currently $5.59 and is also eligible for purchase with Disney Dining Plan snack credits. The cupcake is listed as a “seasonal dessert” on Sunshine Seasons menu, so you might have to look for it. The Epcot Flower and Garden Festival is happening now until June 3rd.
