REVIEW: Absolute Delight – Rivers of Light Dessert Party

REVIEW: Absolute Delight - Rivers of Light Dessert Party

As the sunsets at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom, the desserts come alive at the Rivers of Light Dessert Party!

Animal Kingdom in the evening is a stunning park on any night, but when enjoying the all-new dessert party, you are transported to a whole new world. This past Thursday night, I had the pleasure of experiencing the brand new Rivers of Light Dessert Party, and what a delight it was.

Location

Tucked away across from Expedition Everest and just over the bridge from the Finding Nemo show theatre in Asia, you will find the check in for the dessert party at Rivers of Light Asia Viewing Area terrace.  Check-in is at 7:30 pm. We had a thunderstorm scare earlier, but everything cleared up just in time.  The cast members were so wonderful and were quick to let me know that if it did happen to rain, the party would be held at Flame Tree Barbeque.

Buffet

REVIEW: Absolute Delight - Rivers of Light Dessert Party

Beauty was everywhere once you walked into the Rivers of Light Viewing Area terrace.  What an absolute feast for the eyes, and I was SO glad I came hungry.  I had a lovely cast member escort me down the buffet line and went over all the amazing treats that were in store.  So let’s dive into all the deliciousness, shall we?!

Treats

Pineapple Bar

I am a bonified pineapple and dole whip fanatic, so going into the party this is the dessert I was most looking forward too.  I have to say it fell a little flat for me.  The creamy texture and crust were great, but it just was not enough pineapple taste for my palate.

Orange Tiger Cake Push Pop

Tiger swirled orange flavored cake, cream cheese frosting, and topped with tiger colored chocolate crunch pearls; this push pop was divine!  The orange cake was so refreshing and a pleasant surprise.

Chocolate Pot De Creme

These are just adorable, and a showstopper for sure. From recommendations from the Cast Members, I ate the whole flower pot in one bite!  I love chocolate, but I prefer it a tad sweeter.  My husband who prefers dark chocolate would go crazy for these.

Green Tea Cake

The green tea cake with the white chocolate tree of life was my absolute FAVORITE treat of the whole party!  Talk about a surprise, and it is such a unique cake flavor. The sweetness is perfectly balanced, so it makes for a very light cake.

Lotus Flower Cupcake

Almost too pretty to eat…almost!  This classic vanilla cupcake is topped with a beautiful vanilla buttercream lotus flower.  Nobody does cupcakes better than Disney!  It was a huge hit for all the younger kids in attendance.

Yogurt Panna Cotta

Granola crunch, blackberry, chocolate and strawberry top this delectable vanilla yogurt pannacotta.  It was one scrumptious bite!

Fruit, Nut Mix, and Cheese

For guests looking for a healthier option, there’s a great selection of fresh fruit, cheese cubes, and mixed nuts.

Mickey Safari Cookies

These Mickey sugar cookies won the award for cutest dessert getting inspiration from some of the park’s favorite animals! Kids were quick to grab a few right before everyone headed down to the seating area.

Gluten-Free Brownie Push Pop

Chocolate buttercream combined with brownie is a definite winner for guests with a gluten allergy.

Gluten-Free Lemon Curd

On a hot summer night, the gluten-free lemon curd was excellent.  They also offer gluten-free cookies and brownies.

Cool Treats

Last but not least, guests can enjoy Mickey ice cream bars, Mickey ice cream sandwiches and strawberry popsicles.  Of course, I had to have the classic Mickey ice cream bar.  The cast members also offered these cool refreshments when we were seated waiting for the show to begin. That was a nice touch.

Drinks

I was so happy to learn that alcoholic beverages were included! Along with the standard beer and wine, they have two specialty cocktails – Tiger Lilly and Asia Chai Tea.

Tiger Lilly

REVIEW: Absolute Delight - Rivers of Light Dessert Party

Cheers to that stunning view.  Tiger Lilly was my favorite adult beverage.  The combination of rum, fruit juices and strawberry Monin was fantastic.

Asia Chai Tea

REVIEW: Absolute Delight - Rivers of Light Dessert Party

As a fan of chai tea, I was excited to try this libation.  For me, it was just a little too bitter, unfortunately.

Non-Alcoholic Beverages

For the younger crowd, jungle juice and purple lotus mocktails were huge hits.  The kids at the table next to me loved them.  I know my tween would have loved those drinks too! In addition, there was ice water and iced tea.

Rivers of Light

REVIEW: Absolute Delight - Rivers of Light Dessert Party

Cast members made sure to escort all of the party guests to our reserved seating area as show time drew near.  Rows 1-7 are reserved for party goers!  Another great tip from one of the cast members is to sit closest to the left, for the best view.  I did just that as I sat front row, which was the first time EVER for Rivers of Light.  I mean most nights with the family, I am schlepping the stroller, so we’re usually crammed in the back.  Watching from the front row was out of this world!

Overall Thoughts

The selection of delectable “animal-inspired” treats is amazing.  At a price of $79 (ages 10+) and $47 (ages 3-9), it was well worth the money and great for the whole family. I love the uniqueness of the sweets, plus adult beverages are included! Click here to find out more information and how to book the Rivers of Light Dessert Party.  Have you enjoyed a dessert party at Walt Disney World or wanting to experience the new Rivers of Light Dessert Party? Rope Drop on a Sunday and the River Belle Terrace

River Belle Terrace now serves breakfast!

Rope drop on a Sunday and the River Belle Terrace at Disneyland is a great way to take advantage of shorter lines, less people in those precious keepsake photos, and breakfast at the park.  We had a mission to get to River Belle Terrace to try their famous Monkey Bread and rope drop was the best way to get it done!

Rope Drop on a Sunday and the River Belle Terrace

The River Belle Terrace is a beautiful table service restaurant that faces the waters of the Rivers America on the corner where Adventureland, New Orleans Square, and Frontierland meet in Disneyland. In late July, Disneyland brought back breakfast to the River Belle Terrace introducing many new dishes, one of them being Monkey Bread, which was all I had on my mind.

Rope Drop on a Sunday and the River Belle Terrace

I don’t even know where to begin with the sweet deliciousness that is the Monkey Bread.  Everything about this dish is absolutely incredible, from the warm soft sweet buttery bread, decadent pecan butter caramel sauce, crunchy candied pecans, and house-made vanilla bean Chantilly cream.  But the true star of this dish is the Crème Anglaise, which is a pourable custard that is light, sweet, and perfectly complements everything about this dish.  From your very first bite warm gooey bite to your last, this dish will have you hooked and wanting more.  If you ask this girl, the cinnamon rolls better be scared because there’s a new kid on the block of sweet breakfast pastries, and he’s worth going bananas over.

Rope Drop on a Sunday and the River Belle Terrace

Although walk-ins are accommodated reservations are highly recommended and can be made online through https://disneyland.disney.go.com/, by calling (714) 781-DINE, or using the Disneyland app that can be downloaded to your phone.

‘Hocus Pocus’ 25th Anniversary Edition Arrives on Blu-Ray in September!

Hocus Pocus

Hocus Pocus

Can you beleive it’s been 25 years since three 17th century witches — Winifred (Bette Midler), Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Mary Sanderson (Kathy Najimy) — brewed the perfect magical movie for the whole family: Walt Disney Pictures’ live-action comedy/adventure “Hocus Pocus.” In celebration of the film’s silver anniversary, “Hocus Pocus” is being re-released to home audiences with a spellbinding new way to experience the film: the Trivia and Treats Edition. On September 2, fans can watch it instantly on Digital and Movies Anywhere, and bring it home on Blu-ray.

“The 25th Anniversary Edition of “Hocus Pocus” includes the original theatrical film and the We ♥︎ Hocus Pocus: Trivia and Treats Edition, featuring pop up video extras including fun facts, trivia, deleted scenes, cast and crew commentary, and behind-the-scenes secrets”… The Multi-Screen Edition of “Hocus Pocus” includes a Blu-ray and Digital Code giving viewers the flexibility to watch the film on different devices.

In “Hocus Pocus,” the Sanderson sisters are in for a devil of a time when their restless spirits are accidentally conjured up on Halloween night, in 1993 Salem, Massachusetts. Banished 300 years ago for practicing their sorcery, this trio of triple-threat demons vowed to one day reappear—and now they’re back—weaving an outrageous web of comedy and chaos. However, to guarantee their immortality, the things they need are the very things that could bring them down: Max Dennison (Omri Katz), his little sister Dani (Thora Birch), and the Allison (Vinessa Shaw), three kids with the power to make or break the witches’ spell. The film is directed by Kenny Ortega (“Hull High,” “High School Musical” series) from a screenplay by Mick Garris (“Sleepwalkers,” “Critters 2”) and Neil Cuthbert (“The Adventures of Pluto Nash,” “Mystery Men”) and a story by Kirschner (“Frailty,” “An American Tail”) and Garris.

    • Concept art and storyboards
    • Behind-the-scenes secrets, and more!
  • Original 1993 Production Featurette – Discover that witchcraft is cinematic artistry in disguise in this resurrected throwback production featurette.

Make These Adorable Kid Approved Winnie The Pooh Veggie Sliders

Make These Adorable Kid Approved Winnie The Pooh Veggie Sliders

As we all know, it can be a struggle to come up with meal ideas that are not only healthy but ones that the kids will love. I am absolutely smitten over these adorable Winnie the Pooh Veggie Sliders and my kids have already asked for them after seeing the pictures! You can even make tasty carrot fries to go with them.

Make These Adorable Kid Approved Winnie The Pooh Veggie Sliders

Take a look at the recipe. This creates 8 servings.

Ingredients:

CARROT FRIES:

  • 4 Cups store-bought carrot sticks
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1/8 Tsp salt
  • 1/2 Tsp black pepper

VEGGIE PATTIES:

  • 1 15-ounce can white beans, drained
  • 1/3 Cup red bell peppers, finely diced
  • 1/3 Cup carrots, grated 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 Cup whole wheat breadcrumbs
  • 3/4 Tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 Tsp garlic powder
  • 1/8 Tsp black pepper
  • Non-stick vegetable oil spray
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil

SLIDERS:

  • 12 whole wheat slider buns or dinner rolls, cut in half horizontally
  • 8 lettuce leaves
  • 9 Tbsps Simply HEINZ Ketchup or HEINZ Ketchup Sweetened with Honey
  • 4 large black olives

MATERIALS:

  • food brush, 1” round cutter or small water bottle cap, kitchen scissors

Helpful Tip: All baking should be done by an adult. Also, we recommend a serving size of 1 slider and a 1/2 cup of Carrot Fries per person.

Directions:

  1. Make the Carrot Fries: Preheat the oven to 425° F. Place the carrot sticks on a large baking sheet, then drizzle them with olive oil. Gently toss the sticks until they are evenly coated with oil. Spread them out in 1 even layer. Bake them for 20-25 minutes until they’re golden brown. Sprinkle them with salt and pepper just before serving.
  2. Make the Veggie Patties: Preheat the oven to 375° F. Place the drained beans in a mixing bowl, then use the back of a fork to roughly mash them. Add the red bell peppers, carrots, egg, breadcrumbs, onion powder, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix them all together until everything is just incorporated.
  3. Cook the Veggie Patties: Prep a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Spray a 1/4 measuring cup with non-stick spray. Measure out 1/4 cup of the veggie patty mixture, placing the scoops on the baking sheet. Repeat this process to make 8 scoops of veggie patty mix, placing each 2” apart. Spray the bottom of the same measuring cup with non-stick spray. Flatten each scoop of patty mix to 3” round. Then brush the tops of the patties with olive oil. Bake for 15-18 minutes. Remove them from the oven and set aside.
  4. Make Pooh’s Ears: Use the extra 4 buns to create Pooh’s ears. For best results, use the flat, bottom side. Flatten them using a rolling pin, then cut out rounds using the 1” cutter. Cut 2 slits on either side of your buns. Slide the ears in.
  5. Create Pooh’s Face: Use a straw, knife, and/or scissors to cut the olives. Add a dab of Simply HEINZ Ketchup, and attach them to the buns.
  6. Assemble the Sliders: Place the bottom buns on a work surface, then top each with a lettuce leaf, a cooked veggie patty, and a dollop of ketchup. For an extra seal of approval from Winnie the Pooh, swap for HEINZ Ketchup Sweetened with Honey—it has the delicious HEINZ taste, but is made with real ingredients and naturally sweetened with only honey.
  7. To finish off the sliders, add the decorated top buns. Then enjoy with the Carrot Fries!
