The Walt Disney Company celebrates another fantastic award ceremony!

NAACP Image Awards for 2021, including eight for ABC, which marked the most for any network or distributor this year. The awards were announced during a special live broadcast of the 52nd NAACP Image Awards, hosted by Anthony Anderson, star of ABC’s black-ish, on Saturday, March 27, and as part of a weeklong NAACP Image Awards Virtual Experience that began Monday, March 22. As he kicked off the live event, Anderson said, “Tonight, we celebrate all that is amazing, outstanding and beautiful about our Blackness… Black people, we are amazing, limitless and remarkable.”

Award Ceremony

The NAACP Image Awards honor the accomplishments of people of color in the fields of television, music, literature and film and also recognize individuals or groups who promote social justice through creative endeavors. This year’s nominees “have provided moments of levity, brought our communities together and lifted our spirits through culture when we needed it the most,” NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson said when the nominations were announced in February. Russell Crowe Cast in Thor: Love and Thunder

Another A-list celebrity is joining the cast of the next Thor film!

One of Taika Waititi’s fellow New Zealand natives is joining the cast of his upcoming Marvel adventure, Thor: Love and Thunder. Russell Crowe, the Oscar-winning star of Gladiator and Man of Steel will have a role in the fourth installment of the Thor franchise from Marvel Studios, which means the beloved actor will be making his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2022. At this time, his role in the film has not been revealed. But we will provide updates when more information becomes available.

Marvel Studios is currently filming Thor: Love and Thunder in Australia. It’s the fourth installment of the Thor movie franchise. The mighty Avenger is reuniting with many of the other recognizable characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Natalie Portman returns to the movie franchise, plus Star-Lord and Valkyrie return to join Thor’s next adventure. It’s going to be quite a cast of characters since so many familiar faces are returning!

Thor: Love and Thunder is currently set to premiere on May 6, 2022 and will star Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster/The Mighty Thor), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), and the Guardians of the Galaxy, with Christian Bale (Gorr the God Butcher).

No single rider lines when the Disneyland Resort reopens

No single rider lines when the Disneyland Resort reopens

The theme parks at the Disneyland Resort are planning to reopen on April 30, 2021. When the parks reopen, there will be some changes. One change will affect the lines for rides. There will no longer be Single Rider lines for rides.

Select rides at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure offered Single Rider lines for guests who were riding by themselves. These lines helped guests get on rides quicker. Now, due to social distancing guidelines, these single rider lines will most likely be temporarily removed.

According to initial COVID-19 health and safety guidelines issued by California, Single Rider lines are “typically designed to help fill in every open seat, which is likely inconsistent with physical distancing.” The guidelines also state that riders from different households should be seated at least 6 feet apart and that seating patterns on rides should be adjusted to maintain social distancing.

Walt Disney World suspended its Single Rider lines when its parks reopened last summer. Disneyland has not made an official announcement yet regarding Single Rider lines.

Gov DeSantis vows to ban vaccination passports in Florida

At a press conference in Tallahassee, Governor Ron DeSantis said he would issue an executive order banning what he called “vaccination passports” in Florida, which would prevent businesses from requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccine for entry.

“We don’t want to be in a situation where people are scared of being sued, just for doing normal things,” DeSantis said. “And so we worked very early on to look at to see ways that we could provide some certainty for both businesses, and healthcare providers. This was obviously a top priority for many of us up here. And I think that the legislature has been able to deliver today.”

With the Executive Order coming soon against vaccination passports a bill will still need to be passed to make the ban permanent.

“It’s completely unacceptable,” DeSantis said of the idea that proof of vaccination might be required by businesses or governments.

Aerial View of Almost Completed Demolition of Innoventions in Epcot

EPCOT’s transformation is a serious undertaking. In the history of Walt Disney World, there haven’t been quite so many changes in such a short period. While a couple of years ago it would have been hard to imagine not being able to walk past Innoventions or the Electric Umbrella, now the center of EPCOT is unrecognizable and completely demolished behind construction walls.

These new aerial shots demonstrate just how different the park looks at this point in the demolition. It looks like near-complete destruction. The West side of Innoventions has only the concrete ceiling of a basement left to go.

EPCOT’s World Celebration area will begin at the entrance and Spaceship Earth. A new pavilion will be constructed for festival use and events. Dreamers Point is another new addition to the center of the park, which will feature a statue celebrating the legacy of Walt Disney. Other new elements include a wishing tree in an enchanted forest and a story fountain celebrating the music of Disney.

To one side of the World Celebration will be home to Moana’s Journey of Water. This same section houses The Land and The Seas. It will be renamed “World Nature” to reflect the theme of the area. The other side, “World Discovery, ” is already moving forward with a new “Guardians of the Galaxy” roller coaster. Stay tuned for updates on that!

While things may look bare and unattractive currently, some big and beautiful changes are on the horizon. We bid a fond farewell to the EPCOT we’ve loved and enjoyed but look excitedly to a future of new discoveries and adventures.

Many of the rides and attractions have 60-90 minute wait time but a quick look at the Universal App shows no rides at capacity yet.

Crowds typically descend on Universal Orlando for Spring Break and many guests are wanting to experience the extended 2021 Mardi Gras International Flavors of Carnaval.

Expect Universal Orlando to hit capacity for most of this week, so plan ahead…

Cast Announced for Obi-Wan Kenobi Series on Disney+

“Obi-Wan Kenobi,” the new Disney+ special event series starring Ewan McGregor as the iconic Jedi Master, will begin shooting in April. The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” where Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

“Obi-Wan Kenobi” is directed by Deborah Chow, director of two critically acclaimed episodes of “The Mandalorian,” Season 1.

The series also marks the return of Hayden Christensen in the role of Darth Vader.

Joining the cast are Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie.

This Orlando Chef makes Baby Yoda Sushi

Baby Yoda Sushi! What could possibly be a first, 2 Star Wars sushi posts in 1 week? Chip and Co. recently showed you the recipe for Ewok sushi, and now we bring you Grogushi? Yushi? Gushi? Baby Yoda Sushi from Alexis Morgan, head sushi chef at Wave Asian Bistro and Sushi in Mount Dora, Florida.

“Sushi is more than food, it’s art. She takes great pride in her work and representing Wave as head sushi chef,” the restaurant’s owner, Jonathan McKinney who recently spoke to Good Morning America. “We’re known for pushing the envelope of traditional sushi. We serve items such as sushi donuts, sushi hotdogs, sushi burgers, sushi pizzas, sushi tacos.”

“Chef Lex has been with us for over a year, and with her ability to create on a whole different level and Kelly’s ingenuity, we’ve really been able to do some cool things and we pride ourselves in the ability to make these characters out of sushi and other sushi challenges come to life.” McKinney continued. The restaurant’s social media manager Kelly Leech is also responsible for bringing these ideas to life.

Anyone interested in Baby Yoda Sushi? or 16-pound sushi donut? or giant sushi boat? I know myself and a couple of friends who could enjoy a night of sushi that is not far from Walt Disney World! Mt. Dora is only 27 miles outside of the Disney bubble.

Old Universal Studios Store Unveiled as New Legacy Store in Citywalk Orlando

Universal Citywalk is building a large new Universal Studios Store and it left questions what would become of the old store. Our questions were answered this week when Universal Orlando unveiled the Universal Legacy Store. A store dedicated to old movie and ride props. We visited the new store and geeked out over what we saw.

Before you even enter the new Legacy Store you’re greeted with the gargoyles that used to sit atop the old Universal Studios arches.

The store is full of movie props. This little section is dedicated to Jurassic Park. They have a couple of large dinosaur eggs.

The latest addition to the store is Hagrid’s motorbike which was driven by the Harry Potter cast the day the new ride opened.

There’s even a model of the Wizarding World. You can see Hogwarts and the Flight of the Hippogriff ride.

The store is just full of memorabilia. It’s all tagged and has a description of what the item is.

There are items from classics like E.T., Back to the Future, and Terminator.

One of my favorites was the old newspaper announcing the opening of Universal Studios. Make sure to check out this store the next time you visit Citywalk Orlando.

All you need is faith, trust and a Tinkerbell Frappuccino from Starbucks!

Add some magic to your frappuccino with this pixie dusted drink inspired by our favorite sassy fairy! It features a blend of matcha green tea frappuccino layered with iced green tea to achieve Tink’s yellow and green colors.

Since the drink is not available on the regular menu, you will have to ask your barista to make it by following this easy recipe:

TINKERBELL FRAPPUCCINO

INGREDIENTS:

Matcha green tea frappuccino
Iced green tea
Coconut milk
Classic syrup
Whipped cream
Matcha powder
Sugar in the raw

INSTRUCTIONS:

Order a venti matcha green tea frappuccino.
Ask to fill 2/3 of the cup with frappuccino.
For the top 1/3, order iced green tea (not matcha) blended with coconut milk and 2 pumps of classic syrup.
Ask to have the iced green tea blend layered on top of the frappuccino.
Top with whipped cream.
Finish with a sprinkling of matcha powder and sugar in the raw.
