Solo Box Office Numbers Are Lower Than Expected Over Memorial Day Weekend

The wait is over! “Solo: A Star Wars Story” opened on May 25th. And while it opened over Memorial Day weekend, Solo box office numbers are lower than expected. It appears that this Lucasfilm and Disney franchise prequel will make $101 million in North America during this four-day weekend.

The three-day estimates for this film about fan favorite Han Solo’s origin were around $83 million in the US. Internationally the film opened with a $65 million box office. The makes the three-day weekend worldwide opening $148 million.

“Solo: A Star Wars Story” was directed by Ron Howard. In this movie we follow Alden Ehrenreich as a young Han Solo as he befriends his future co-pilot and Wookie companion Chewbacca, and meets the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover). The movie also stars Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Paul Bettany, Thandie Newton, Joonas Suotamo, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

“There’s a ton of momentum in the box office,” Dave Hollis, president of domestic distribution at Disney, said of the trio of recent openings — “Solo,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” and “Deadpool 2.” “There’s a wide open landscape for the next handful of weeks.”

While it looked like “Solo” was set to come in as the be Memorial Day Weekend opening, it now seems like “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” will hold on to that title with its $139.8 million in 2007.

The second standalone “Star Wars” film, “Solo” has fallen far behind “Rogue One,” which had a three-day weekend opening of $155 million in 2016. Most recently, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” opened with $220 million domestically in December.

New Planet Hollywood Quick Service Expansion Photos and Details

The new Planet Hollywood Quick Service expansion is underway! It was announced a while back that Planet Hollywood located in Marketplace at Disney Springs will be adding a Quick Service option in addition to the Planet Hollywood Observatory dining experience. We decided to take a look at the progress while we were at the Solo! A Star Wars Story opening night event at Disney Springs AMC. If we take a look at what they have blocked off you can see that it looks like there will be a walk-up side window but there have not been any details released or comments from Planet Hollywood about the expansion. So far no word on the menu or opening date either, but we will be sure to share it with you as soon as it is released.

Jack-Jack’s Diaper Dash invites crawling babies to show off their speed and compete against other babies to determine who is the fastest of them all. The event is held at the Rockettower Plaza Stage. Registration for the daily race begins at 10:30 am. If you are looking to participate, make sure to start signing up to register right then as spots are super-limited. All babies who participate will also receive a special prize!

Magic Kingdom’s The Diamond Horseshoe restaurant in Liberty Square has a new menu! Reported earlier this month, the menu has finally debuted! And we’ve got lots of pictures to make your mouth water! The Diamond Horseshoe new menu gives you a lot of options to choose from and we can’t wait to try EVERYTHING!

You can see they’ve got an A la Carte menu with sandwiches, salads and platters and the Saloon Fest, which is an all you care to enjoy experience!

Try the creamy Turkey Salad Sandwich, served on multigrain bread with lettuce and tomato, or the Grilled Chicken Thigh Sandwich with BBQ mayo, lettuce, tomato and onion served on a Kaiser roll. The Turkey Salad Sandwich is $16 and the Grilled Chicken Sandwich is $17. Both come with corn fritters and you’re choice of one fix ‘ins!

The Chuck Wagon Platters come with a meat (or vegetables), corn bread and your choice of two fix ‘ins! Carved Beef Brisket is $22, BBQ Pulled Pork is $21, Grilled Chicken is $21 and Vegetables are $19.

Fix ‘ins include Jalapeno Cheddar Corn Bread with honey chipotle butter, Corn on the Cobb with cheese, Corn Fritters, Mac and Cheese, and BBQ Baked Beans! And of course you won’t want to skip desserts! The Buttermilk Chocolate Cake, Peaches and Cream Cheesecake and blueberry Cobbler are all $7 each.

When it comes to the Saloon Feast you’ll start out with an Appetizer Platter of Mixed Green Salad, Watermelon, Cucumber, and Tomato Salad, Potato Salad, and Jalapeno Cornbread. The Confetti Cupcake at Pop Century is now available! The resorts have really upped their game with the addition of all kinds of new cupcake options! The new “Confetti Cupcake” is a delicious party in your mouth, think Funfetti…but better! The new addition to Everything POP Shopping & Dining has a yellow cake base with sprinkles baked throughout the cupcake finished off with a buttercream whipped frosting, more sprinkles, and chocolate drizzle.

One of my favorite things to do is resort hop trying the delicious treats exclusive to each one. When I stayed a POP Century this last time I was surprised by just how many new types of treats there were. The resorts have really raised the bar on their cupcakes and Disney themed treats.

Polynesian

This Millennial Pink Cupcake from the Polynesian Village Resort consists of a vanilla cupcake base filled with guava cream and topped with a buttercream icing and of course the iconic Minnie Ears. Guests can find this cupcake at Capt. Cook’s inside the Resort.

Happy Memorial Day Chip and Co fans! As the unofficial start of Summer, did you know that today is also National Hamburger Day? I thought we could explore Disney Springs and check out three amazing examples of how to celebrate this tasty day.

First up on the list is The BBQ Bacon Burger (seen pictured above). This House of Blues Restaurant and Bar favorite is topped with cheddar cheese, apple-wood smoked bacon, crispy jalapenos, sautéed bourbon onions and Memphis BBQ sauce. And of course, it’s served with a side of fries.

Next, we’ll travel over to the West Side of Disney Springs to experience The Edison Burger at where else but at The Edison of course! This is a signature dish for the venue, it is a 10-ounce beef patty which blends sirloin, short rib, and brisket and is topped with sharp cheddar, crispy onion rings and a layer of smoked bacon. Garnished with house-made pickles, in-season tomatoes fresh from local Florida farmers, and a special sauce, this one is packed full of flavor. Plus, it comes with a side of hand-cut Electri-fries.

And finally, we can’t talk about Disney Springs Hamburgers without a big shout out to D-Luxe Burger over in Town Center. If a favorite had to be chosen then The Southern Burger might be the winner. The location’s signature blend beef patty is topped with a perfectly cooked fried green tomato, Pimento cheese, lettuce, onion, and bacon. Amazing!

The Disney x Toms Collection has debuted early, and it’s as fabulous as we could have imagined. The collection features Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White. You’ll find them in both kids, and adults sizes as well.

The Disney x Toms Collection is Now At Disney Springs and Downtown Disney

There is a variety of styles for kids and adults, each featuring rarely seen original artwork from Walt Disney archives. The full collection is 30 pieces, however only a few styles are available now, but more will be available online this summer. Currently only the Cinderella prints are available, but Sleeping Beauty is set to launch in July, and Snow White in August. The retail price ranges from $49.95 to $65.95 depending on the style.

The Disney x Toms Collection is Now At Disney Springs and Downtown Disney

The artwork has been sourced from the Disney Archives! That means that these are not only a beautiful officially licensed collection of Toms, but a piece of collectible art you can wear! The children’s and adult’s shoes have the same prints, so you can even do mommy and me outfits!

These entire release of Cinderella and friends will launch June 21st online on Toms.com. Currently, the Cinderella designs are exclusive to Curl Surf and are available at both the Disney Springs and Downtown Disney locations.

Big Announcements For Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Released Tonight

Tonight we are attending the Star Wars: Galactic Nights event at Hollywood Studios and I am excited to share some new details that we just learned about Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! During the panel discussion Disney’s story editor, Margaret Kerrison, shared for the first time that the name of the village is called Black Spire Outpost.

Here is Disney’s description:

“The largest settlement on the planet Batuu, Black Spire Outpost is an infamous stop for traders, adventurers, and smugglers traveling around the Outer Rim and Wild Space. Off the beaten path, this outpost has become a haven for the galaxy’s most colorful — and notorious — characters. Widely known for the petrified remains of its once-towering ancient trees, the spires now stand guard across the river valleys and plains and have long captured the imagination of travelers to this planet. To the first settlers, these petrified spires became more than just landmarks; they became the heart of the outpost itself.”

We also learned that two full sized AT-ATs are coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! Although not officially confirmed by Disney previously we did see them being constructed last year. You can see them in my previous article HERE.

Another big announcement is that a new adoptable animal called a Loth-Cat will available for guests visiting Batuu. This is apparently one of many Star Wars creatures that will be available. I am assuming this will be a similar set up to the banshees in Pandora.

Here is the Wookiepedia description: “Loth-cats are a feline species native to the planet Lothal, and are related to the Tooka species. They are known to be apprehensive and hostile against strangers, but can warm up to them if their trust is gained.”

Here is our first look at the storefront where the Loth-Cats will be adopted from. It is being called a “creature stall” for now where Star Wars creatures will come to life and will be available to bring home with you.

There will also be a second we’ll get to explore! It’s a Resistance Troop Transport ship that‘ll take us on some amazing adventures, just like the Millennium Falcon. Last but not least we have learned that Nien Nunb, a pilot for the rebel alliance, will be playing a key role in Galaxy’s Edge. Apparently the original Kenyan voice actor for Nien Nunb was recorded for new land too.

Who else is excited for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge?! The new land opens at Disneyland Resort in summer 2019 and at Walt Disney World Resort in late fall 2019.

Loth-Cat Adoptable Pets And More Coming To Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Ezra and Sabine might not have been able to have their own Loth-Cat pet, but it looks like things will be different for us when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens. A Creature Stall in Galaxy’s edge Loth-Cat Adoptable Pets, and other creatures will be available for guests to bring home as their very own!

This shop is a place where creatures from the Star Wars universe will come to life. These critters from around the galaxy will be available for you to bring home as part of the family. Loth-cats are confirmed, but there are so many possibilities! I’m personally hoping for Porgs!

At Star Wars: Galactic Nights in Hollywood Studios, a reveal of the Loth-Cat pets was shown. Loth-Cats are a feline species native to the planet Lothal, and are featured on the television series Star Wars: Rebels. The prototype shown was before any color, or details were added. The sneak peek really looks like they are putting a lot of effort into making realistic Star Wars creatures for us to cherish!

The most anticipated, blockbuster attraction of the summer opened on May 25th! Thanks to Justice League: A Call for Heroes at Madame Tussauds Orlando everyone can experience the epic action and adventures alongside Wonder Woman, Superman and Batman. The epic, new attraction experience will unite fans of DC’s Justice League with their favorite DC Super Heroes in an action-packed experience unlike any other.

Justice League: A Call for Heroes was designed in collaboration with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and takes fans on an action-packed mission to help the Justice League save the world! Guests will step into the periled cities of Metropolis and Gotham City. This attraction features an all-star cast of DC Super Heroes that includes Justice League’s Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman. Guests will be united with the League in series of once-in-a-lifetime, hands-on missions to help save the world from LexCorp.

LexCorp’s experimental technology has gone haywire and is threatening the world! The Justice League needs your help as they work to save innocent civilians while figuring out a way to stop Lex Luthor’s out-of-control experiment before it’s too late! Accept your mission and step into Metropolis and Gotham City to help the legendary DC Super Heroes!

It will take the strength of Wonder Woman’s ‘POWER GAUNTLETS’ to block the signal of the LexCorp transmission., Guests must harness all of their energies, and strike the signature power pose, to create a force strong enough to help Wonder Woman create a great explosion with wind and sound effects that will BLOW. YOU. AWAY.

LexCorp’s transmission has caused a helicopter to go haywire, and it’s hurtling towards the ground! Guests will need to race into action alongside the Man of Steel to help him lift the helicopter and save it from crashing to the ground. As guests summon all their strength to push upwards, Superman will thrust the helicopter back into the sky. With this amazing feat, guests will be the first to experience a dynamic, fully-articulated Madame Tussauds figure that REALLY MOVES!

But, the battle isn’t over yet. In order to deliver one last, crushing blow to LexCorp, Guests will need to step onto the rooftops of the Gotham City Police Department and use the legendary Bat-Signal to call Batman into action. Billowing smoke and wind will reveal the formidable figure as he’s lands on the rooftop above, ready to save the world.
