Disneyland Paris Planned Expansion Set to Create 1,000 Jobs!

Disneyland Paris Planned Expansion Set to Create 1,000 Jobs!

According to the telegraph.co.uk, Disneyland Paris’s planned expansion hopes to create more than 1,000 jobs, double its visitor capacity and triple the number of hotel rooms by 2030. Disneyland Paris is Europe’s most popular attraction, drawing 15m visitors annually. Half of the guests come from France followed by Britain representing 28% of the total.

In February, the Walt Disney Company unveiled a £1.8bn expansion of the Walt Disney Studios Park, with it adding lands inspired by Star Wars, Marvel Comics and the Disney animated classic Frozen by 2025. When Disneyland Paris was agreed in 1987, Disney was given a plot of land almost a fifth the size of Paris. However, only half of the land has been developed on so far, yet Disney has until 2030 to complete this master plan before it expires. The Park’s objective for the 77-acre development is to “double theme park visitor capacity by opening new attractions in the two existing parks and possibly building a third theme park”- Disneyland Paris consultation report.

Disneyland Paris hotels boast to be the fifth largest hotel complex in France with 5,800 rooms across eight properties. According to the recent data, the average spending per room is £205 with annual occupancy of 77%. The new attractions should draw more guests to the park and, in anticipation to this Disney plan to build a further 14,700 rooms on a site, north of the A4 motorway which links the resort to central Paris.

The Walt Disney Studio’s expansion is set to begin next year. According to the consultation report, “more than 1,000 direct jobs will be created, in attractions as well as shows, catering, stores, support functions and administrations… It has been observed since the beginning of the establishment of the tourism destination that for one direct employment created three indirect jobs are created. We hope that this dynamic will continue for this project”. Furthermore, the report also adds that “Euro Disney will be calling upon numerous local, national and international suppliers to implement and ultimately run the project. The company currently works with 3,000 suppliers and has spent over €13.7bn- 82.3% of that total in France”.

Between 2013 and 2016 Disneyland Paris invested £541 in its facilities, which has been a success! Latest accounts for the operating company Euro Disney Associés show an increase in revenue in September 2017, rising 16.6% to £1.3bn, the highest since the resort opening in 1992!

Skyliner Construction Update

Skyliner Construction Update

The Disney Skyliner is moving right along!  We visited Epcot to get you some new photos of the construction and let you know what kind of closings to expect.  The view coming into the the International Gateway is a little different these days.  There are fences up around the edges of the water near the France Pavilion with some construction going on in the back.

Skyliner Construction Update

With the construction, there is also a wall up inside the France Pavilion.  This is blocking the space where guests would normally meet with Princess Aurora and Belle, so Belle has been moved to a temporary location.  Princess Aurora is not currently showing up on the schedule of character appearances, so keep your eyes open to see if she makes a surprise appearance.

Skyliner Construction Update

Over the wall, you can see one of the towers, and the lines are up!

Skyliner Construction Update

There’s a better view of the wires up and running to the station.

Skyliner Construction Update

Closer to the station, you can see the wires go all the way to the end of the line.  As far as we can tell, only the meet and greets are affected by the construction work.  Everything else in the France Pavilion is still open so you will not have to go without your favorite snacks.  My husband would be pretty disappointed to go without the Croque Glace.  He always gets it with strawberry ice cream, and it is his go-to treat in Epcot, no matter how much food we have had up until then.  What do you think of the construction?  Are you as excited as we are?  Let us know in the comments below!

Tyler Trent is the 2018 Disney Spirit Award Winner

Tyler Trent is the 2018 Disney Spirit Award Winner

Former Purdue University student Tyler Trent is the recipient of the 2018 Disney Spirit Award.  His story and the courage with which he faced down cancer earned him the award, which is presented to college football’s most inspirational player, coach, team, or figure.

Trent, a 20-year-old native of Carmel, Indiana, was first diagnosed with bone cancer in 2015. He underwent nine months of chemotherapy, putting his cancer into remission. But two years later, as he was set to enroll as a freshman at Purdue, the cancer returned. Despite having his pelvis surgically replaced, he still managed to start classes at Purdue on time – a testament to his unwavering spirit.

In September 2017, when Michigan was coming to town to face Purdue, Trent, despite his condition, did what many football-crazed fans do before big games: he camped out on campus in hopes of being the first Purdue student in line to get tickets for the game.  Boilermakers Head Coach Jeff Brohm noticed him in line and quickly struck up a conversation, which led to Trent later becoming a fixture within the football program and an honorary team captain for various games. “I saw a guy dressed head to toe in Purdue garb,” Brohm said. “I remember he had a big smile on his face. He didn’t tell me his story. He didn’t tell me what he was going through. He just had a positive attitude and brought a lot of life to the conversation.”

While waging his own battle with cancer, Trent has found a way to give back to others. He partnered with ESPN and The V Foundation as a spokesman to help raise money for cancer treatments and recently started an organization – Teens with a Cause – that recruits kids for service projects to help families affected by cancer.

Disney Sports Vice President Faron Kelley will present the award at The Home Depot College Football Awards, televised live on ESPN Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. ET at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.  Kelley said Trent’s amazing story is what the Disney Spirit Award is all about. “Tyler’s spirit is amazing,” Kelley said. “His tenacity and commitment to making life better for others dealing with similar circumstances all while waging his own personal battle with cancer should be an inspiration to us all. That’s why we salute Tyler as the 2018 recipient of the Disney Spirit Award.”

HAPPY NEW YEAR, CHARLIE BROWN – The ABC Television Network and the PEANUTS gang will ring in the new year with the animated PEANUTS special “Happy New Year, Charlie Brown,” created by late cartoonist Charles M. Schulz, along with “She’s a Good Skate, Charlie Brown.” In “Happy New Year, Charlie Brown,” the PEANUTS gang is ringing in 1986, and Marcie and Peppermint Patty are throwing a big New Year’s Eve bash. Charlie Brown plans to celebrate the holiday by curling up with a big book that weighs nearly as much as he does, Tolstoy’s “War and Peace.” The book’s weight doesn’t stop him from lugging it to Lucy’s pre-party dance class, where he cuts a mean rug with a rollicking Patty. With just 1131 pages to go, Charlie Brown takes another break, this time for the party, and summons the courage to invite his true love, the little red-haired girl. She doesn’t respond, but hapless Chuck shows up anyway – with Tolstoy in tow. Then, he settles down with the book – on a porch swing in a snowstorm – and in so doing, misses the evening’s big surprise. In “She’s a Good Skate, Charlie Brown,” disaster strikes as Peppermint Patty heads to her first major ice-skating competition with coach Snoopy and faithful companion, Marcie, by her side. As always, the unassuming Woodstock flies in to save the day. (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

RUDOLPH’S SHINY NEW YEAR – It’s Rudolph to the rescue when Happy, the Baby New Year, goes missing, in “Rudolph’s Shiny New Year,” the classic Rankin/Bass stop-motion animated holiday special. Father Time asks the most famous reindeer of all, Rudolph, to find the next Baby New Year before midnight on New Year’s Eve. Red Skelton narrates and voices Father Time, while Frank Gorshin and Morey Amsterdam also provide voices for characters. (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

Stance: Step Up Your Disney Style – Disney Springs

Stance: Step Up Your Disney Style - Disney Springs

Stance: Step Up Your Disney Style - Disney Springs

At Stance in Disney Springs, you can step up your Disney style.  The holiday shopping season is in full swing at Disney Springs with a flurry of happy shoppers trying to find unique gifts for their family and friends. I decided to head over to Stance socks to see what the buzz is all about, and see if I could find something for my husband who is notoriously hard to shop for!

Star Wars

These are the socks you are looking for! Whether you are Jedi master or swear allegiance to the Empire, there is something here for the Star Wars fan in your life. With a mix of light and dark side, the Warped Star Wars the four-pack gift set at $80 includes Chewbacca, Boba Fett, the Pilot, and R2D2.

Marvel

Calling all superheroes: socks assemble! The Marvel collection will surely defeat Thanos in the ultimate battle for the universe. No need to worry about your vibranium shield not fitting in your bag at the next meeting or luncheon, when you can rock your favorite superhero socks instead.  My husband is a HUGE Captain America fan – posters, funko, action figures you name it he has it.  When I saw they had comic socks, I knew I had found him the perfect present!

Classic Disney Characters

Whether your best pal is goofy, have been tempted by an Evil Queen or believe in Sandy Claws, Stance has you covered for both men and women. Bring a little bit of the Disney magic with you, no matter where you go.

Everything in Between

From bootcut to anklet or working out to cozying up by the fireplace, they have the socks you need. No dull colors or designs here because it is all about being unique. Stance is not just socks though.  They offer thoughtfully crafted intimates for men and women too.  Plus, they have perfected the t-shirt with a reinforced collar, forward seaming, and specialized fabric.

Holiday Gift Offer

Stance: Step Up Your Disney Style - Disney Springs

From youth to adult, this is the perfect spot to find great stocking stuffers. As an extra special gift this holiday shopping season at Disney Springs, receive a free stocking with any purchase over $50.

Personally, I am very picky about socks.  My ex-figure skater/long distance runner feet have been through the gauntlet, and will “spit out” cheap socks which in turn give me blisters. At Stance, my feet and my family’s feet can be happy and live their best life. Leave the ordinary and embrace the extraordinary. Have you stopped in yet? Post in the comments below!

Could Tom Hanks Be Cast As Gepetto in the Live Action Remake of Pinnochio?

Tom Hanks

It appears as if Tom Hanks may play the kind woodcarver Geppetto in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of its classic animated film.

In the animated version, Geppetto is a lonely woodcarver whose only wish is to have a son of his own. In the film that taught us all to “wish upon a star” one of Gepetto’s puppets, Pinnochio, comes to life (with the help of The Blue Fairy) and embarks on a daring journey to prove himself worthy of becoming a real boy.

Tom Hanks has appeared in several Disney films throughout his career- most notably he played the voice of Woody in the Toy Story franchise as well as portraying Walt Disney himself in Saving Mr. Banks. We hope we will be able to add Gepetto to this list. We think he would be outstanding in the role!
