Vogue.com Showcases Disney Fashion Around the Parks

Vogue.com converts its popular Street Style feature into Main Street Style (themed after Main St., U.S.A) in these new character-meets-couture designs. The digital hub launches today and features looks inspired by 90 years of Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Parkgoers, models, and local influencers across all six Disney resort destinations make a style statement to rival any fashion week around the globe.

Famous fashion photographer, Dan Roberts, captured models such a Josephine Skriver in celebration of the World’s Biggest Mouse Party at the Disney Parks. Models debuted new parks merchandise influenced by Mickey Mouse and his coveted status as a true original. The pieces included in the photos join a plethora of other Mickey-inspired fashions that are all available at the parks or on shopDisney.com.

Disney flawlessly enhances the stories of the world’s most beloved characters in new ways as they continue to collaborate with luxury designers, tastemakers, and brands. From YSL, to rag & bone, to Shinola, fashion brands continue to put their own spin on items for the 90th birthday of Mickey and Minnie Mouse – making stylish Disney lovers rejoice.

There are more ways to celebrate the mouse who started it all with the new Mickey and Minnie inspired looks. Show off your Disney Style during the World’s Biggest Mouse Party at Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, and on the Disney Cruise Line.

Edna Mode Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Edna Mode Coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is under almost constant change these days, and it’s an exciting time for the park. One of the new experiences guests can look forward to this year is an “incredible” party in the Pixar Place area. The section will be transformed into Municiberg from the hit Incredibles films with new experiences and character meets. Guests will get to embrace their inner “Super” and celebrate with Incredibles and their friends. The most fabulous feature has to be a new meet and greet with the super designer herself, Edna Mode!

Edna will be on hand during the celebration for photos and interactions with guests.  She’ll not only be stopping by to schmooze with her adoring fans though. She’ll also bring a spectacular exhibit to share. “Edna Mode’s Super Suit Gallery” will display a selection of Edna’s finest work in super fashion. But remember, no capes!

An appearance from Ms. Mode isn’t the only thing to look forward to at Pixar Place year. Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, and Frozone will be hosting a dance party featuring lively games and fun music. For a more interactive experience, families can search for a lost multi-powered super. Jack-Jack has gone missing, and it’s up to you to find where the cutest Incredible has gone. Can you follow clues like cookie crumbs and laser scars to discover the location of the dynamic tot?

The Incredibles at Pixar Place will run from January 18 to September 30, 2019. The section will be open daily and is included in park admission. Check the Hollywood Studios Times Guide for specific experience and character meet times.

Disneyland is undergoing some renovations to Sleeping Beauty’s Castle and it is creating an uproar among guests who are visiting the park.  The Sleeping Beauty Castle is different from its counterpart in Walt Disney World. It typically gives guests the ability to walk through and get a glimpse at castle life. During the construction, however, guests are being instructed to use the Big Thunder Trail or Parade Route along the Matterhorn to head back to Fantasyland. The views of the castle are completely obstructed and will remain that way for a few months.

Announced: The Winners of the 2019 Disney World Marathon!

(January 13, 2019): Brazilians Giovanna Martins and Fredison Costa continue their dominance of the Walt Disney World Marathon by winning the men’s and women’s divisions, respectively. Costa has seven of the last eight Disney Marathons and four consecutive races from 2014-2016, while Martins becomes the first woman to win four Disney Marathons. She has won the race for three consecutive years starting in 2017, and also won the 26.2-mile race in 2015.

Announced: The Winners of the 2019 Disney World Marathon!

The top five winners of the 2019 Disney World Marathon have been announced! If you follow along with the marathon these names shouldn’t come as a surprise to you.

Coming in first place in the men’s division, for a seventh time, is Fredison Costa! Congratulations, Costa! This win is bitter sweet as this win comes after an upset in last year’s marathon. Costa has now won five of the last 6 marathons.  This win leaves him one win shy of Adriano Bastos’ record of eight wins. Last year’s race ended his reign of four straight wins after American runner, Nicholas Hilton, pulled off an upset for Costa.  Costa recaps his win by stating, “I’ve been through hard times this year, so it felt great that this was the seventh time I was a winner.  I feel like I’m challenging myself again.”

Costa and Hilton paced the field on Sundays run for the men. Costa ultimately took the win with a time of 2:18:45. Hilton came in second within five minutes of Costa at 2:21:48. Rounding out the top five in the men’s division is Brazilian Jose Lima, American Jacob Krolick followed by Brazilian Luis Barboza.

Coming in first place for the women’s division, for a third straight year, is Giovanna Martins. Congratulations, Martins! Martins has won four of the last five marathon events, with the last three as consecutive wins. Canadian Natasha Yaremczuk’s win in 2016 broke the streak. Martin finished first with a time of 2:45:24, which is a little over two minutes from the runner up, Brazilian Antonia Lins Da Silva’s, time of 2:47:36. Martins is the first women to win four Disney marathon titles.  She crossed the finish line after kicking it into high gear late in the race.  Martin celebrated by clutching a Mickey plush in one hand and a Brazilian flag in the other.  Rounding out the top five in the women’s division are American Nancy Jurgens, American Megan Curham, and American Loni Smith.

Announced: The Winners of the 2019 Disney World Marathon!

Congratulations to all the winners of the 2019 Disney World Marathon and to all those who ran in the marathon itself! I, for one, envy what you do. Keep up the good work!

Construction Continues to Progress at Disney’s Riviera Resort

Construction Continues to Progress at Disney's Riviera Resort

Construction Continues to Progress at Disney's Riviera Resort

Just a short walk from Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, construction continues to progress at Disney’s Riviera Resort.  Guests staying in Martinique and Aruba have the best views of the construction. Slated for Fall 2019, the resort is on track to reach its deadline.

Construction Continues to Progress at Disney's Riviera Resort

Once completed, Disney’s Riviera Resort will be the 15th Disney Vacation Club property. The inspiration for this resort stems from Walt Disney’s extensive travel along Europe’s Mediterranean coastline. Plans for the resort include a large rooftop restaurant and will have approximately 300 rooms.  Guests dining in the rooftop restaurant will have views of both nighttime shows at Hollywood Studios and Epcot.

Disney seems to be trending towards designing tower buildings instead of the large expansive resorts with many smaller buildings. This is also evident over at Disney’s Coronado Springs, where a new tower structure is being constructed. Much of the roof is completed now which means interior work will continue. The cranes have also been taken down with workers being able to move material around with smaller equipment.

Construction Continues to Progress at Disney's Riviera Resort  Construction Continues to Progress at Disney's Riviera Resort

To the left of the towers, construction continues on the Disney Skyliner gondola station. Once these are operating, they will transport guests to either Hollywood Studios or Epcot. Also planned are stops at four resorts – Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney’s Riviera Resort.  For now, all we know is that the Gondolas will be running in Fall 2019.

Construction Continues to Progress at Disney's Riviera Resort

As construction continues to progress on Disney’s Riviera Resort and the Skyliner gondolas, I would imagine Disney will have everything running in time to take advantage of the busy Fall season. What are you most excited about? A brand-new resort, the gondolas, or both?

Peter Pan’s Flight Closed For Refurbishment

Peter Pan's Flight Closed

Peter Pan's Flight Closed

Peter Pan’s Flight in the Magic Kingdom has closed for refurbishment until early February 2019.  Though we’ll miss flying through Neverland, for now, here are some things you can do while Peter and Captain Hook take a break.

Visit Another Classic Ride

Peter Pan’s Flight is one of the remaining original attractions from Opening Day back in 1971.  Why not give another classic attraction a visit?  Dumbo, The Haunted Mansion, it’s a small world, Mad Tea Party, and Jungle Cruise are all rides that have been here since day one!

Visit Other Fantasyland Attractions

There are plenty of other options for attractions nearby to enjoy. “it’s a small world”, Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, and Mickey’s Philharmagic are all great choices in the vicinity of Peter Pan.  The best part is, these, like Peter Pan, are all family-friendly attractions with no height requirements.

Get Your Peter Pan Fix

If you’re a big fan of the classic film or just a Peter enthusiast, you can still get your fix while the ride is down.  The Pan himself makes daily appearances greeting guests and taking pictures just outside the ride queue.  Check your My Disney Experience App or Times Guides for exact times.

Or, line up early for the daily Festival of Fantasy Parade to check out the Peter Pan float.  The float, accompanied by the Lost Boys, features Tinkerbell, Captain Hook and Peter himself, followed closely behind by Tick-Tock the Crocodile.

Peter Pan's Flight Closed

We will keep you posted as to the exact date that Peter Pan’s Flight is expected to re-open.

After a Significant Year Disney CEO Bob Iger Receives a Pay Raise

After a Significant Year Disney CEO Bob Iger Receives a Pay Raise

Disney CEO, Bob Iger has received a pay raise to his annual salary. The Walt Disney Company revealed in the SEC filing this past Friday Iger’s salary was up 80 percent to $65.6 million.

Other executives salaries were also reported. CFO Christine McCarthy collected earnings totaling $11.8 million, general counsel Alan Braverman earned $10.4 million, chief strategy officer Kevin Mayer earned $11.6 million, and chief human resources officer Jayne Parker totaled $6.8 million.

In 2017 Iger’s salary totaled $36.3 million, down from his 2016 salary of $43.9 million. His 2018 salary was comprised of $2.875 million, $35.5 million in stock awards, and options of $8.3 million. While the salary and stock shares were up the options were unchanged for 2018.

The Walt Disney Company had the major acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2018 a the result of a bidding war that lasted much of the year. Disney beat out the other key player, Comcast with a payment of $71.3 billion. In the deal, Disney acquired multiple pieces of 21st Century Fox, a few notable inclusions are the broadcast network, Fox film and TV studio, Star India and multiple cable channels.

While the company did have the major acquisition of 21st Century Fox, it did see the price of shares fall in the correction of the stock market that occurred in the last few days of 2018. Disney was not alone in the market correction, as most industries including others in the entertainment field saw the same reduction in the price of shares. At the end of the fiscal year, shares of the Walt Disney Company were right at 21 percent higher. The fiscal year ended September 29, 2018.

After the filing Friday the Walt Disney Company announced Derica Rice, the executive of CVS Health and CVS Caremark has been nominated for election to a position for director at the annual shareholder meeting planned for March 7, 2019. Iger responded to the nomination by remarking,  “As a well-respected leader in a dynamic, consumer-facing industry, Mr. Rice will bring a wealth of expertise to our board.”

Overall, the year was quite positive for the Walt Disney Corporation. In addition to the 21 percent increase of the company’s stock value at the end of the 2018 fiscal year, Disney earned $12.6 billion. The earnings were up 40 percent. The overall revenues saw an 8 percent increase to $59.4 billion.

The Avengers are Exactly Who is Needed to Save this Years Oscars

The Avengers are Exactly Who is Needed to Save this Years Oscars

This year’s broadcast of the Oscars needs a hero, a superhero that is. Could the Avengers be the ones to save this year’s awards show? The call has gone out for an all-star appearance.

Avengers, assemble! And bring some of your other superhero friends too.

If the Avengers were to appear it wouldn’t be the first time this uniquely talented bunch has stood together at the Oscars. During the 2013 awards show four of the five original bunch of superheroes were featured. The only missing member was the Black Widow, Scarlett Johansson.

The producer of the highly rated awards show, Donna Gigliotti, co-producer Glenn Weiss, and the rest of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are declining to comment on the plan at this time. However, sources are reporting that several of the stars were asked to not present at the Golden Globes which aired earlier this month. It is speculated this move was to help increase the impact of their participation at the more prestigious Academy Awards.

If the super appearance was to occur it would likely be beneficial to all parties involved. The Oscars broadcast airs on ABC.  Both ABC and Marvel are owned by Disney. So, by assembling the Avengers Disney could possibly enjoy a ratings bump for the Oscars as well as subsequent publicity for the April 26 release of Avengers: Endgame. The Oscars would reap the benefits of having a star-studded show even without the once considered essential role of a host.

Can the superhero team save The Oscars? Will they be able to take the focus off Kevin Heart’s endlessly discussed absence? Will Thanos show up and destroy it all? Well, not so much the last one, but the heroes just may be what this year’s Oscars need to make it through the night without a traditional host. Tune in to ABC on February 24th to see if the superheroes show up on stage.
