Southbound World Drive Overpass Opens

Southbound World Drive Overpass Opens

Southbound World Drive Overpass Opens

The southbound World Drive overpass has opened in Walt Disney World.  Driving just got a little easier in Disney World.  Whether you are a Disney local like me, drive down for your Disney vacation or ride on the Disney bus, the southbound World Drive overpass now makes getting around Disney even simpler.

Be aware there is a new sign up on southbound World Drive to alert drivers of the right lane exit that will take you to the Fort Wilderness Resort area.  That road goes underneath the new overpass.

I will say as a Disney local, the southbound World Drive overpass is a game changer and definitely cuts down my drive time, which is great especially when I have the kids in tow.  When you vacation at Walt Disney World, do you drive or use Disney transportation? Post in the comments below!

Beware the Untold Legends at the Haunted Mansion!

haunted mansion

Have you experienced the Haunted Mansion attraction at Magic Kingdom?

If so, you know about the spooky Ghost Host and the eerie hallway of doors that knock and move. You know about the Portrait Chamber that stretches to reveal the fates of the people in the paintings. You know about the ghosts in the ballroom that disappear and reappear.

But did you know about two legendary characters not in the attraction?

Chances are that you don’t know too much about these unsavory characters. That’s because they were created for the Haunted Mansion by Imagineers when the attraction was being put together. Tragically though, these two fearful figures were cut from the final version of the attraction.

In the stand-by queue for the Haunted Mansion attraction, Guests can see tombstones and other references to characters in the attraction. There are also references to characters not in the attraction, such as Mr. Toad from the old Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride attraction. Two of the references in the cemetery queue point to a mysterious one-eyed cat and a sea captain.

haunted mansion

The cat was created to be a big part of the Haunted Mansion attraction. The original plan was for the Ghost Host to warn Guests about this devil cat who hates mortals. The cat would materialize later in the ride.

Sea Captain Culpepper Clyne’s tomb is inside the cemetery queue as well. The tomb is a nod to a character who was to play a role in the attraction. In the Imagineers’ original plans, the Sea Captain would appear to Guests during the ride with water all around him. Then suddenly, to their surprise, a ghost would appear beside the Guests, making for a spooky experience indeed!

Who is your favorite character in the Haunted Mansion attraction? Is it Madame Leota, Constance Hatchaway, the Hitchhiking Ghosts or one of the other terrifying inhabitants of the old mansion? Let us know in the comments below!
