The Plaza Restaurant Will Continue To Serve Breakfast

It looks like breakfast is here to stay for the foreseeable future at The Plaza Restaurant. The Magic Kingdom restaurant has opened its advance dining reservation window to extend out to the 180-day mark. Guests looking to make breakfast reservations through the summer may do so by calling Disney Dining or with their My Disney Experience account.

The restaurant, known for the tasty sandwiches it serves for lunch and dinner began serving breakfast this past November. Initially, the meal service was scheduled to run into early January 2019 but was extended into June and now The Plaza Restaurant will continue to serve breakfast.

Currently, six entrees and three specific kid’s meals are on the menu. Selections include hearty options to start your day on the right foot. Choose from breakfast staples such as the All-American Classic Breakfast Platter featuring scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, sausage, bacon, and a biscuit, or the Mickey Waffles with three of the iconic smiling breakfast favorites. The create your own omelet has seven different filling possibilities while the Steak and Eggs dish includes two scrambled eggs accompanied by a strip steak and potatoes. If eggs benedict is more your style there are two options. Diners may choose between a Country Ham and Eggs Benedict or a Lobster-Fried Green Tomato Eggs Benedict.

Other menu items include kid’s meals with smaller portions of the breakfast platter and Mickey waffles. Those under 9 can also choose between several varieties of cereal with milk. Side items of biscuits and gravy, oatmeal, grits, and fresh fruit will round out your meal. Both non-alcoholic specialty beverages and specialty cocktails are available.

The Plaza Restaurant is located just off of Main Street U.S.A. at Walt Disney World. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Advance Dining Reservations are recommended.

Collectible Flower & Garden Pins Available Soon

Spring is in full bloom at Walt Disney World, especially at Epcot. Epcot’s 2019 International Flower & Garden Festival kicks off Match 6^th and runs through June 3^rd. While Disney has been releasing Flower & Garden merchandise and menus during the week, they just recently released the images the pin sets available exclusively for the festival. The collectible Flower & Garden pins will be available soon.

If you’re into pin trading or just collecting, check out all the pins available beginning March 6^th. Some have a very limited amount available. Get to the parks pronto if you’re wanting some of the exclusive pins.

Don’t stop at just purchasing the pins. Check out the rest of the merchandise available. My favorites are the terracotta mugs and Mickey Tervis. Back by popular demand is Spike the bumblebee and his pollen-nation exploration. This fun scavenger hunt lets kids explore around the counties. Purchase the map for $6.99. Once you’ve found Spike around the countries, collect your prize!

I have to say that the Flower and Garden Festival is my favorite. Yes! I like it even better than Food and Wine. Crazy, I know!

Why?

The weather is warm, but not miserable.
The flowers around the park are simply amazing to see.
Not to be missed are the topiaries! There are so many amazing ones, and to know that they’re all real is breathtaking.
The park has so much more color than you normally see, that’s it’s just a fun way to welcome warmer weather, and it brings the park to life.
There’s still plenty of specialty foods and drinks to sample.
The crowds seem much more tolerable as well.
And lastly… it means I’ve survived another winter!

American Idol Kicks-Off At Aulani Resort

The newest season of Americal Idol begins on Sunday, March 3rd! An all-new group of singers and the all-star judges will be making their debut from Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa this season.

Hopeful musical artists auditioned in cities across the US this year. This week the series begins, and we tune-in to see who receives the coveted golden ticket to the next round in Hollywood. After the rigorous Hollywood eliminations, the top performers travel to Aulani Resort for the Showcase round!

Back in January, judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie, along with host Ryan Seacrest, were spotted at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa in Ko Olina, Hawaii. Radio personality Bobby Bones joined the judges as the in-house mentor for the episode. Join American Idol for its second season on the ABC Network, starting Sunday, March 3rd at 8 pm EST.

If you love coffee and super fun drinks, then your trip to Epcot is only complete with a stop at a Joffrey’s kiosk for a pick me up! Joffrey’s is Disney’s specialty coffee and tea company. Their drinks are unique, and a few new seasonal flavors have been added along with another fun surprise!

Now serving at Joffrey’s kiosks around Epcot:

Kevin Hart Might be Playing Mushu in Live-Action Mulan

Kevin Hart might be playing a big role in the new live-action movie Mulan; Mushu. Mushu is Fa Mulan’s closest companion throughout the Mulan series and the comic relief. He is a scrawny, tiny, red, orange-accented Chinese dragon with blue horns and has quite the personality.

Mulan is just one of the many new Disney live-action movies headed to the big screen. The live-action will be a reboot of the classic animated movie from 1998, based on Chinese legend as well.

The original Mushu was voiced by Eddie Murphy, but the rumor is clear that Disney is looking to snatch Kevin Hart to voice the feisty dragon!

Kevin Hart’s history in stand up comedy and comedy movies shows he’d be a good fit for the role, but the studio is taking it’s time to narrow down the cast list and looking at other actors.

Some fans are hoping for the return of Eddie Murphy as Mushu just like James Earl Jones is returning at Mufasa in The Lion King live-action remake.

While nothing is confirmed, if Hart is selected, he will join the fantastic cast including Liu Yifei as Mulan, Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Jason Lee Scott as Bori Khan (the villain), and Jet Li as the Emporer.

Stay tuned for more updates as we find out if Kevin Hart will be playing Mushu, Mulan’s sassy sidekick in the new live-action film.

Castle Couture Construction Update

While construction walls are up, the Castle Couture shop inside Magic Kingdom Park is still open for your Princess and/or Prince to find the perfect royal outfit and accessories. Castle Couture houses Disney Princess and Prince outfits, accessories, and Aurora’s magic changing color dress. The shop is located just across the way from the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique location at Cinderella Castle. It makes it easy to shop for everything your little one needs for their Royal transformation at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.

A huge renovation is in the works for Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Cinderella Castle. When the project is over, it is said that Castle Couture will be similar to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique location at Disney Springs. It will offer some new magic like a magic mirror where Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother appears to the Princess or Prince about to be transformed. The boutique will remain open and operation during the changes.

In the meantime, Disney just announced a new Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique opening at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, this summer.

The New Animatronics Giving Life To Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

You cannot have a Disney theme park without animatronics, right? They are used in so many different many different experiences such as Pirates of the Caribbean or Frozen Ever After. And who doesn’t love the C-3PO animatronic that is located in the queuing area for Star Tours: The Adventure Continues? Animatronics bring each of these experiences to life!

There are actually multiple models of Animatronics that can be found throughout the parks. The one thing that they all have in common though is that they were all developed at Disney’s Grand Central Creative Campus in Glendale. This is the home of Walt Disney Imagineering’s full-service animated figure workshop. Because closely guarded secrets live here, access is restricted to the facility.

A1 – The First Animatronics

The first Animatronic was the A1 which, due to design, tend to be heavy, bulky, and hard to adjust. These were typically a fully functional generic humanoid but the number of functions depended on the version type of head that was installed. Examples of the A1 can still be spotted around the theme parks to this day! A number of the pirates in the background of Pirates of the Caribbean in Disneyland are A1s. In Magic Kingdom, they can be spotted in the Hall of Presidents – namely Rutherford B. Hayes or William Henry Harrison. Generally, any of the presidents that stand there and not are A1 models.

A100 Model

The A100s debuted in 1989. The Wicked Witch of the West in the now-closed The Great Movie Ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is one such example. These models had a more life-like appearance due to the combination of software, customized hydraulic values, and hydraulic actuators that were used to construct them. Other examples of the A100s that can be found in the parks today include many of the Jack Sparrows in the Pirates of the Caribbean rides as well as both George Washington and Abe Lincoln in Magic Kingdom’s Hall of Presidents!

Here’s a fun fact! Both the shaman in Na’Vi River Journey at Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park, as well as Elsa in Frozen Ever After at EPCOT, are also both A100 models! The hydraulics of the former versions were replaced with electricity.

A1000 Model

The A1000 program began as a program geared to the creation of a family of standardized electronic figures that provided more control and design repeatability for both build and maintenance purposes. In order to do this, Disney created proprietary software programs. These programs provide predictive renderings and pre-visualizations that assist Imagineers. Everything from seeing how a figure moves in a costume to predicting when components need replacing can be seen and determined through these programs. The goal of this program is to get as close to a lifelike performance as possible! These models were developed by both Imagineers in California as well as engineers and designers in Florida.

Hondo Ohnaka will be installed as part of the Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run. He will be one of the most advanced audio-animatronics that can be found at any Disney Park. Hondo Ohnaka has a total of 51 functions, including 10 just in his head!

There is so much innovation that is being used for this character. A speaker located in his chest provides direction sound. A bend in his knee creates the illusion that he can walk. Hondo’s skin is even made of a silicone mix which, combined with his voice and movements, gives him a lifelike appearance.

Hondo Ohnaka will not be the only A1000 in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, however, Disney is keeping the details about other characters that will be brought to life hush-hush. This quote sums up the A1000 program best. Per Kathryn Yancy, Walt Disney Imagineering show mechanical engineer, “If [the audio-animatronics] are physically in front of you, you’re in their story and they are in yours.”

Katherine Helmond from ABC’s “Who’s the Boss” and Voice of Lizzie in Pixar’s “Cars,” Dies at 89

We have sad news to report today… Katherine Helmond the seven-time Emmy-nominated actress who played Angela’s mother Mona Robinson on the long-running ABC sitcom Who’s the Boss?, and also voiced Lizzie the 1923 Model T Ford in all 3 Disney/Pixar’s Cars movies has passed at the age of 89.

Helmond’s talent agency APA released the news earlier today that she had passed away due to complications from Alzheimer’s at her home in Los Angeles.

Katherine Helmond has passed away.

My beautiful, kind, funny, gracious, compassionate, rock. You were an instrumental part of my life. You taught me to hold my head above the marsh! You taught me to do anything for a laugh! What an example you were!

Helmond is survived by her husband David Christian of 57 years.

“She was the love of my life,” Christian said. “We spent 57 beautiful, wonderful, loving years together, which I will treasure forever. I’ve been with Katherine since I was 19 years old. The night she died, I saw that the moon was exactly half-full, just as I am now … half of what I’ve been my entire adult life.”

A memorial for family and friends is being planned. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

New it’s a small world Dooney and Bourke Collection Now Available

It’s a world of smiles for Disney purse lovers! A new “it’s a small world Dooney and Bourke Collection is now available at the Disney Parks! The vibrantly colored collection features three silhouettes inspired by the classic happy ride we all love.

There are two different designs for this collection, an all over repeating pattern print, and a wrap around print. The wrap around is featuring only on the large tote bag style, and has a cool blue background, with colorful illustrations from the classic attraction.

The satchel and wristlet wallet feature a vibrant repeating pattern print of the same colorful illustrations on the tote. The satchel can be worn as a handbag, or used with the adjustable strap as a crossbody! The wristlet wallet also has a removable strap you can use as well.

Paper Straws Now Being Used at Joffery’s in Tomorrowland

The Walt Disney Company announced late last year that it would be eliminating the use of plastic straws and stirrers for drinks in their theme parks. This was rolled out as part of a larger initiative by the company to reduce overall waste. The change is in addition to other steps like removing single-use plastic bags and moving to refillable in-room amenities at its hotels.

We’ve recently started seeing these planned changes take effect in the parks. Now, the Joffrey’s Revive location in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom is the latest to switch to paper straws. We stopped by for an iced coffee this week and found that all cold drinks are being served with new pink-striped paper straws. The new straws are the same as the paper straws that have been served in Disney’s Animal Kingdom for some time, to ensure the safety of the animals in that park.

The new straws have been appearing slowly throughout the parks and have coincided with the release of reusable shopping bags at retail locations. The new park-specific bags are made of 80% recycled materials and come in three sizes. Each park has it’s own bag design and ranges from one to two dollars in price. With these minor transitions and larger ones like the recently unveiled massive 270-acre solar panel facility, Walt Disney World is putting a larger focus on its environmental impact. Spring is blooming at Shanghai Disney Resort with the air full of excitement and inspiration! What a perfect time to explore the resort’s colourful new spring offering. From March 1st to May 31st, the resort is set to “Spring into colour-full” with seasonal decorations, exciting new shows, food and beverage offerings, alongside stylish merchandise and so much more… invite guests to be immersed in the magic of springtime at Disney!

Starting this March, guests will be able to fall in love with vivid colours of spring, as cherry and plum trees blossom, followed by magnolias, apple floral archways, lupines, tulips, roses, which bloom at different times throughout the season. Look out for a new spring-inspired colour wall along Mickey Avenue, making it a perfect location for spring-inspired selfies. Shanghai Disneyland has recently released an Annual Pass providing guests with 12 months of magical access to the park. Alongside their entrance ticket, the Annual Pass allows guests to enjoy a variety of discounts throughout the year! Guests looking to extend the magic of their one-day trip are also invited to upgrade their park ticket to an Annual Pass for a discounted rate. To do this visit the Shanghai Disneyland Main Entrance ticket booth, Guest Services Centre or one of a number of upgrade locations that have been added at Guest Services Kiosks throughout the park on the day of their visit. With more priority experiences and special events awaiting pass holders throughout the year, be sure to join in on the celebrations with the all-new Shanghai Disneyland Annual Pass.

Spring is Blossoming at Shanghai Disney Resort!

This spring season also marks the launch of the new Early Park Entry Pass! Guests can purchase this pass via the resort’s official WeChat account to be among the first to enter Shanghai Disneyland on the date of their visit. This pass allows guests to enjoy up to a full hour of extra magic as well as the chance to experience select attractions and merchandise shops before other guests arrive. Guests are encouraged to purchase the Early Park Entry Pass at least one day before their visit to enjoy a specially discounted rate per pass.

Celebrate Women’s Day with a March 8 Half-Day Ticket and Much More!

To commemorate International Women’s Day, Shanghai Disneyland Resort will be hosting an extended Women’s Day celebration full of themed events and inspiring activities to celebrate women! From March 1st to March 10th, Minnie Mouse and her female friends will take over the park, presenting guests with surprises to help honour the holiday. As part of this celebration, the iconic Floral Mickey, which greets guests in front of the main archway, will be transformed into a Floral Minnie covered in thousands of vibrant flowers to celebrate Women’s Day. Furthermore, to celebrate the new Marvel Studios Film “Captain Marvel”, coming to theatres on the 8th March, a specially designed “Captain Marvel” photo location will be available in Disneytown to celebrate Marvel Studios’ first female-led superhero movie, so don’t miss out!

Shanghai Disney is also offering a special Women’s Day ticket that allows guests to enter Shanghai Disneyland after 2 p.m. on March 8 to celebrate the holiday and soak in a beautiful spring afternoon. On sale from March 1 through March 8, guests can purchase this special ticket just RMB 299 for a standard ticket and RMB 224 for children, seniors and disabled guests across a number of official channels, including the official resort website and app, the official resort WeChat account, the Shanghai Disneyland Main Entrance ticket booth, Reservation Center, or via the resort’s travel trade partner, Meituan Dianping. Guests who purchase this ticket will also receive a dated merchandise e-coupon that can be used to receive an RMB 88 discount on a single purchase of RMB 150 and above, with the coupon good for in-resort purchases on March 8 only.

Spring into the Season with Magical Disney Entertainment
Throughout this season, Mickey Avenue will be decorated with flowers and polka dots, making a beautiful floral photo opportunity. Guests are also encouraged to show their love for spring by dressing up in bright seasonal outfits and showcasing their own fashionable spring style. Beloved Disney characters will also make surprise appearances occasionally dressing in their new spring costumes to take pictures by the new spring-inspired wall.

This year, the large sculpted eggs resembling popular Disney Characters will return to the resort. From April 11th through May 31st, the parade route near Mickey Avenue will host the new “Disney Color-Fest: A Street Party!” led by Mickey, Minnie and Donald, who will be accompanied by a host of Characters and Disney performers. A collection of Disney Characters will join the festivities themed to match the red, yellow and blue floats that transform the street into a grand Disney Color-Fest, spring celebration.

Adding even more bright colours to the spring entertainment at Shanghai Disney Resort, the hit “Duffy and Friends” show is returning to Celebration Square, with Mickey, Duffy and friends gathering to rejoice and dance with the cheerful lavender rabbit, StellaLou. From March 1st through to April 10th, this upbeat show welcomes guests to join in on the dancing fun with their beloved characters.

Novel Merchandise to Fill Your Spring Wardrobe and Accessorize Your Home
For a limited time only, Shanghai Disneyland Resort is launching more than 50 special merchandise items, inspired by spring. Including, new Mickey and Minnie plush dressed in their spring bunny apparel and carrying small picnic baskets filled with eggs. The egg-shaped cross body bag back due to popular demand, but new to the season, featuring a brand-new double-sided Mickey and Minnie design for an even more magical look. Exclusive bunny ears, colourful flower headbands and a special egg pin series will be released this spring season!

The new Duffy and Friends spring collection have arrived, featuring a diverse range of products, including cute plush of our favourite pals dressed their spring-inspired costumes, decorated with egg-shaped buttons, flowers, butterfly and beetle elements. Guests will also find Duffy and Friends featuring in seasonal egg-shaped designs on mugs, backpacks, and stationery, providing guests with a wide range of products to help them fill their wardrobes and decorate their homes this spring.

Awaken Your Taste Buds with Spring Food and Beverage Arrivals
Spring also brings abundant fresh food and beverage offerings throughout the resort, with StellaLou set to act as the centrepiece of many of the park’s food and beverage treats, such as blueberry cupcakes to blackcurrant cake, to lavender ice cream, goblet drinks, cotton candy and adorable popcorn buckets.

Mickey & Pals Market Café is also debuting the first-ever Colourful Minnie Afternoon Tea. Allowing guests to enjoy a relaxing spring afternoon whilst enjoying a delicious array of treats including fruit puffs, mango chocolate, cupcakes, strawberry tartlets, and more.

Guests at the Royal Banquet Hall can experience a range of seasonal fairy tale delicacies, including crispy noodles with assorted seafood and spicy abalone sauce, poached prawn and avocado salad, served within the magical realm of the Enchanted Storybook Castle. Meanwhile, Wandering Moon Restaurant will also offer a new range of Chinese dishes including steamed bamboo shoots, pork meatballs, and braised bamboo shoots with pork belly, further welcoming the spring season.

Aurora Restaurant in the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel has also released a new selection of spring dishes, including pâté en croûte, poached Boston lobster, and a brandy chocolate mousse ball – what a delicious signature dining experience.

Extend Your Spring Journey with a Visit to Disneytown and the Two Resort Hotels
Disneytown is also inspired by spring, as guests can explore new cuisines as well as exciting entertainment and more. Look out for the spring eggs resembling popular Disney Characters dotting the grass and flowerbeds throughout Disneytown. While Judy Hopps from Zootopia will greet guests with a special bunny dance at the Marketplace Stage every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. After her performance, lucky guests will even have a photo opportunity with her!

Celebrate Nature with an Educational Family Outing at Shanghai Disney Resort

Spring is also a perfect season to learn about nature and the resorts are offering a unique outdoor activity for families and children to learn the wonders of spring. From March to May, Disneytown is holding a Spring Stroll and Botany Class, or at the resorts, guests can experience interactive environmental and nature-based activities with fun Disney twists. Why not take a spring stroll around the beautiful Wishing Star Lake or an educational botany class led by experts sharing some of the park’s secrets. From April 12th – 22nd, guests are also invited to the Earth Month Fair in Disneytown for educational activities and to hear insights about species protection and sustainable development.

The popular talking trash can, Xiaotui, is returning to Shanghai Disneyland in April, to interact with guests as well as providing fun environmental tips on Mickey Avenue and along the parade route. Nature lovers will find more Earth Month surprises at the Gardens of Imagination, where they can earn a “Nature Explorer” badge by participating in interactive nature activities.
