The Best Family Restaurants at Walt Disney World

The Best Family Restaurants at Walt Disney World

The Food Network did some delicious research in the Orlando area and chose the best restaurants for families.  Here are their top picks for restaurants on Disney property.

Circular oak-burning fire pit

First up is ‘Ohana at Disney’s Polynesian Resort.  At breakfast, you can eat family style with Lilo and Stitch.  They serve eggs, friend potatoes, sausage, ham with pineapple, fresh fruit, and bread.  Dinner is a Polynesian-style, all-you-care-to-eat dinner featuring sweet and sour chicken, shrimp, and steak.  There are also dumplings, stir-fried vegetables, lo mein noodles, and salad.  There are also fun games to play and a Hula dance.

La Hacienda de San Angel dining room with large windows and beamed ceiling, lit up at night

For the best place to “light up the night,” they chose La Hacienda de San Angel in Epcot.  The food is traditional Mexican fare with house made corn tortillas, pan-seared snapper, and avocado margaritas.  If you time your reservation right, you”ll get a great view of Illuminations through the large windows or from the patio seating area.  They also play the music inside the restaurant so you can get the full experience.

A father and his young daughter enjoy food and beverages at the Splitsville Dining Room

Named the best for “being bowled over,” Splitsville at Disney Springs made the list.  Dine on burgers, pizza, sushi, or rice bowls among other options.  This is also a great place to hit the lanes and bowl as a family.  Dining is available inside or outside and you can make reservations for your food, lane, or both.

Irish Dancers perform on stage with a live band

The best place for a “jig and a pint” is Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant at Disney Springs.  The Irish owners of the pub brought in chefs from Dublin, and their traditional Irish fare does not disappoint.  Choose from fish and chips or shepherd’s pie, and don’t forget to check out their drinks menu.  The little ones are not forgotten in this restaurant with the traditional Irish dancers providing entertainment for kids of all ages.

Tribal-design tables under faux tree canopy with hanging lanterns

For a “simulated trip to Africa,” check out Sanaa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge in Kidani Village.  No reservations are required for breakfast, which is served quick service style.  When dinner comes around, the menu is full of east African dishes with some Indian flavor thrown in.  Any time you eat there, you are sure to have an amazing time viewing the animals on the savannah through the floor to ceiling windows around the outside of the restaurant.

Overhead view of convertible 1950s era car dining booths of Sci-fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant

For dinner and a movie, you can’t beat the Sci-Fi Dine in Theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  With menu options like the smoked prime rib sandwich, Buffalo chicken salad, or one of their amazing burgers, you are sure to find something to eat for everyone.  Be sure to check out their milkshake and dessert selections, as well.

Atrium dining area with a light and airy look and a Victorian décor

For Italian food and family, check out Tony’s Town Square Restaurant in Disney’s Magic Kingdom.  Every pasta on the menu is made in house at this Lady and the Tramp themed restaurant.  The kids menu is just as good as the adult menu, and there is gelato for dessert.  Plus, Mickey Mouse himself is right next door, so you can hop on over after you eat.

Clouds lord above the rustic walk-up windows of Harambe Market at Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park

If you’re a parent, you are bound to know what it is like to eat with a picky eater.  Harambe Market at Disney’s Animal Kingdom features four quick service restaurants sure to satisfy everyone in the family.  Options include grilled chicken skewers, watermelon shave ice, ribs, beef-lamb gyros, and corn dogs.  You’re sure to find something for everyone at this one stop shop.

A 15-foot T-Rex shows its sharp teeth and a giant octopus lurks in the background

If you have a dinosaur lover in your group, T-Rex Cafe at Disney Springs is the place to go.  They have a delicious menu, but that is secondary, particularly for the kids, to the decor and activities.  Animatronic dinosaurs are all around you as you dine and a meteor strikes every once in a while, as well.  For the kids, there are options in the store to dig for fossils, pan for gems, or build your own stuffed dinosaur.

These are their top choices.  What do you think?  Let us know in the comments below!

PhotoPass Photographers are Here to Stay

PhotoPass Photographers are Here to Stay

We recently reported that Disney was planning to replace their Walt Disney PhotoPass Photographers.  Beginning in 2019, they will begin testing a new system at 9 locations throughout the parks.  The plan is to install multiple cameras at certain character meet and greet areas.  These automated cameras will be positioned so as to take photos at all different angles.  The goal is to give guests the opportunity to have more photos of their favorite memories.  Walt Disney PhotoPass Photographers will no longer appear at those locations.  While there are many who will be saddened not to see some of their favorite Cast Members at meet and greets, there is great potential in this new system.  In the past, the Walt Disney PhotoPass Photographers have been limited by where they could stand.  With the new cameras, they will be pre-mounted to get the best shots without having a person moving around to get them.

Fear not!  This does not mean the beginning of the end for our beloved photographers.  There will still be over 100 locations throughout the parks where you can still add to your memories with a human photographer.  Disney has assured us that Walt Disney PhotoPass Photographers will continue to capture your favorite shots.  Walt Disney PhotoPass Photographers will still appear in places like Main Street, USA, in front of the Tree of Life, and between Future World and the World Showcase in Epcot.  The photos they take, especially the magic shots and the frames they carry, are important memories for all families and will not go away.  I especially love getting photos at the water parks.  My family has gotten some excellent shots there over the years.

What is your favorite place to get photos taken?  How do you feel about these new cameras?  Let us know in the comments below!

Combining these two new incredible experiences alongside the land’s dynamic elements and optional interactive integration with the Play Disney Parks app, will allow guests to become galactic travellers in this new galaxy, far, far away.

Furthermore, Bob shared more exciting Star Wars news, in that Oscar-winning composer John Williams is composing new and original Star Wars themes exclusively for Star Wars: Galaxy Edge. The below video shows an exclusive preview of the all-new music, recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios in London. If that isn’t enough, there will be lots of things to do at this exotic outpost, such as visiting a street market in Black Spire Outpost, allowing guests to enjoy delicacies such as blue milk, or visiting an old friend Rex in Cantina. Guests will also be able to encounter famous creatures and characters from the Star Wars universe. This larger than life land will be opening at Disneyland and Walt Disney World in 2019.

Exciting News about Star Wars: Galaxy Edge!

Bob also shared news about the exciting in-development Star Wars resort coming to Walt Disney World. This groundbreaking resort will be a unique resort unlike any other. Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along Coming to EPCOT

beauty and the beast

beauty and the beast

Earlier this morning at D23’s Destination D: Celebrating Mickey Mouse, Bob Chapek, Chairman of Disney Parks Experiences and Consumer Products, announced some exciting things coming to EPCOT.

EPCOT is undergoing a transformation that will span over several years. Among other exciting changes and additions to the park, Chapek also revealed that a fun new Guest offering will be at the France pavilion on the World Showcase. This experience is inspired by Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. The new attraction isn’t a ride, though. Instead, it’s an exciting new opportunity for fans to sing along with Belle and Beast.

We don’t have a name for the experience yet, but it promises to be one of the best Guest offerings in the parks, as it was created by Don Hahn, who produced the animated and live-action Beauty and the Beast films.

The experience will not replace the Impressions de France offering in the pavilion. Rather, it will be offered in addition to it and in addition to the new Ratatouille-inspired attraction called “Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.” Soon it’s going to be even more exciting to visit France on the World Showcase!
