Luke Evans Shares Disney’s Live-Action ‘Pinocchio’ Will Not Be a Direct Translation of the Animated Film

Luke Evans Shares Disney's Live-Action 'Pinocchio' Will Not Be a Direct Translation of the Animated Film

Luke Evans Shares Disney’s Live-Action ‘Pinocchio’ Will Not Be a Direct Translation of the Animated Film. In the last decade or so Disney has made the move to retelling their classic animated tales in a new live-action format, filling in various plot holes, and diving deeper into the characters, both the heroes and the villains. Some films, like Dumbo, have gone through a complete transformation with only hints and nods towards their animated counterparts due to various levels of controversy among fans.

Disney Fans seem torn on the idea, with some loving the new adaption while other beg Disney to focus on creating new and exciting stories for the next generation rather than the nostalgic titles of the past. Regardless of where fans stand on this, Disney has established the pattern and is. continuing to remake the Disney Classics, with one of the upcoming titles as Pinocchio starring Tom Hanks (Geppetto) and Luke Evans (The Coachman). Other casting details have not been made public yet, but we are excited to see who will be joining this star studded cast.

Related: Luke Evans Cast in Disney’s Live-Action ‘Pinocchio’ Remake Starring Tom Hanks

This week, Luke Evans spoke with Collider about his current and upcoming projects including the live-action Pinocchio and the Gaston and LeFou Disney+ Original Series, The Little Town. When asked about playing a second villain for Disney, Luke Evans shared with Collider:

“Well, I’ve always loved Pinocchio. It’s a timeless story. It’s a very old fairy tale or fable, whatever you want to call it. It has very powerful messages woven into the storyline, many that I think relate to young kids and young people. I don’t think it will be anything like any iteration of Pinocchio that we’ve seen before. I’m truly excited to be a part of it. I’m very honored that Disney has chosen me to play another villain in the world of Disney. I’m surrounded by some very talented people, including Mr. Hanks. It’s just a joy to think that I’m in the same film as that legend. I’m very excited about it. Very excited, indeed.”

Related: Live Action Pinocchio and Peter Pan & Wendy Going Straight to Disney+

They also asked Evans if Disney will still be able to surprise audiences with this retelling as so many people from varying generations are very familiar with the story of Pinocchio, and Luke spared no time in sharing his thoughts regarding this retelling in particular.

Evans responded, “No, I’m not surprised. Storytellers tell stories in different ways. Pinocchio is an Italian tale, originally. If you think about the Disney animation from 1940, it’s 81 years old. Disney is bringing it to life, and they’ve done such a wonderful job in their live-action remakes. I was in one that was extremely successful. That’s a perfect example of how you can bring a story to the live-action realm and still entertain people, and they don’t feel like they’re watching something that they already know. That’s the wonderful thing about bringing real actors in to play animated characters. They bring a three-dimensional performance to it. I think it will be very exciting. I’m very excited about bringing it to a new generation.”

A synopsis of the film has yet to be shared by Disney, but we expect the main plot points to hold up to the test of time, with some modern updates sprinkled throughout the film. Pinocchio will premiere exclusively on Disney+ at a to-be-determined date.
