Earlier this year we shared the news that the Jungle Cruise at Disney World & Disneyland would be receiving some modern updates. You can read all about it here.
Today Disney has provided more information on what to expect.
We already know that Disney will be adding more humor, wildlife, and skipper heart to the classic attraction. What we are learning today that this is part of a much larger effort, this updated experience will welcome new characters from around the world.
The enhancements include several new scenes guests will experience along the river, all interconnected. The world-famous skippers will continue to share the unique adventure and interactions guests expect on the Jungle Cruise.
The new scenes will heighten our skippers’ legendary comedic tone, beginning with a trapped safari party that finds itself up a tree after their journey goes awry. Unexpected scenarios along the way will give the jungle and animals the last laugh!
For those looking to dive deeper, we’re also expanding the attraction’s backstory, centered around Alberta Falls, granddaughter of world-renowned Dr. Albert Falls, as the proprietor of the Jungle Navigation Company Ltd.
Jungle Cruise fans might be familiar with her name; however, wouldn’t you know it, we recently uncovered a copy of an interview with Alberta Falls that was featured in a 1938 issue of The Daily Gnus about her and the World-Famous Jungle Cruise. We hope you’ll enjoy getting to know her!

There has been a lot of talk in the travel world about vaccine passports and requiring proof of a COVID-19 vaccine in order to travel. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says that Florida will not require a vaccine passport or anything like it.
If you plan to attend concerts and major sporting events in Florida, you will not be required to show proof of receiving the vaccine. “I just want to make very clear in Florida, we are not doing any vaccine passports. All those experts said that it was a bad idea. I think it’s a bad idea and so that will not happen. And so folks should get vaccinated, if they want to, we’ll obviously provide that, but under no circumstances will the state be asking you to show proof of vaccination, and I don’t think private companies should be doing that either,” DeSantis said yesterday.
The topic resurfaced as the European Union announced its “Digital Green Certificate” plan that would allow those who are fully vaccinated to travel freely across the bloc. DeSantis said everyone should decide for themselves what activities and/or events they’re comfortable attending as well as whether or not to be vaccinated.
“To start going down the road of vaccine passports, I mean, you have some of these states saying to go to a sporting event, you have to show either a negative test or a vaccine proof. I think you just got to make decisions. If you want to go to an event, go to an event. If you don’t, don’t. But to be requiring people to provide all this proof, that’s not how you get society back to normal so we’re rejecting any vaccine passports here in the state of Florida,” DeSantis said.
There’s no official word on if vaccine passports will be required for any travel in the United States. You can see Governor DeSantis’s full press conference here.
We recently shared a first look at Spaceship Earth’s new lighting for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration. Now, Walt Disney Imagineering has shared a video with a closer look at the lights!
All of the Walt Disney World theme park icons will be getting a special makeover for the 50th Anniversary Celebration. Spaceship Earth in Epcot will be getting new lighting that will remain installed even after the celebration ends.
Spaceship Earth will be so sparkly with its new EARidescent lighting! In a video Walt Disney Imagineering shared to Instagram Principal Show Lighting Designer Jason Read shared how Disney’s teams are adding points of light with fixtures that will shine across all of the different faces of Spaceship Earth to tell the story of communication and connection. Take a look:
We recently reported that California was recommending theme park visitors not scream while on roller coasters. The California Attractions & Park Association has now released a statement pertaining to this “no screaming” recommendation.
The CAPA released the statement through a series of tweets. Here is the full statement:
“California’s amusement parks are excited to reopen responsibly under the recently released state guidance for the amusement park industry. These guidelines do not require parks to prohibit screaming.
When the state’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy was released in August, it identified a range of risk criteria for all industries to address, including:
Ability to limit activities that are known to cause increased spread (e.g. singing, shouting, heavy breathing; loud environs will cause people to raise voice).
The responsible reopening plan that CAPA released in September addressed that risk criteria as follows
Face covering usage and/or modifications to seat loading patterns will be required on amusement park rides to mitigate the effects of shouting. Additionally, on rides, guests generally face in one direction.
CAPA has never suggested or recommended limiting shouting, yelling, or screaming on an amusement park ride.”
To clear up some confusing reports in the press…
At no point has CAPA recommended limiting or prohibiting yelling or screaming on amusement park rides as a way to mitigate transmission of COVID-19. (1/8)
— CA Attractions & Parks Assoc. (@CaAttractions) March 19, 2021
As we previously reported, the State of California’s Blueprint For a Safer Economy states in the reopening guidelines for theme parks that the parks should have the ability to “limit activities that are known to cause increased spread,” including shouting. CAPA’s own reopening plan states that they will address these concerns by enforcing face masks on all theme park rides and possibly stagger seating on rides.
Disneyland has not included “no screaming” in their reopening guidelines. So, for now, screaming is still allowed on thrill rides! Stay tuned for any changes or updates.
The new ticketed event, A Touch of Disney, has begun in Disney California Adventure today! A Touch of Disney offers some of the world-famous food and drinks from around the Disneyland Resort, plus a chance to see Disney characters, shop for the latest Disney merchandise and pop in at unique photo locations. Take a first look at the limited-capacity event!
A Touch of Disney offers a selection of iconic food and beverage items from both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, from the world-famous DOLE Whip® to the classic Monte Cristo sandwich that is usually found in New Orleans Square. Many items will be served snack-sized, ideal for enjoying a variety of bites and sips from mid-day through the evening. Guests will find these favorites at locations around the park, including six seasonal and creatively themed marketplaces.
For added convenience and contactless payment, guests can take advantage of mobile food ordering on the Disneyland mobile app. Mobile order makes it easy to schedule when guests want to pick up favorite treats from the marketplaces, or from select participating locations inside the park such as Smokejumpers Grill, Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats, Award Wieners and Cocina Cucamonga. Placing a mobile order on the Disneyland App does not provide access to A Touch of Disney. Only guests with A Touch of Disney ticket valid for the date selected will be permitted to enter the experience.
Once again, it’s time to wave hello to some favorite Disney and Pixar characters inside Disney California Adventure. As guests stroll through the park, they may see Mater and Lightning McQueen in Cars Land or Joy and Sadness at Pixar Pier. Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse are part of the magic, too, and you might be surprised as some of their fun-loving pals show up in unexpected settings.
In addition, guests will discover unique, new photo spots, and some will be available only to guests who attend A Touch of Disney. For example, they may get to pose for a photo in front of a Pixar Play Parade float, or with one of the colorful convertibles from Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters, near Casa della Tires in Cars Land.
Disney PhotoPass photographers will be at select locations throughout the theme park to help guests create new memories at Disney California Adventure during its 20th anniversary year. Unlimited downloads of Disney PhotoPass photos taken during the day of the experience are included with admission.
Shopping from Buena Vista Street to Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff
Select retail locations also will be open, selling the latest apparel, accessories, souvenirs and even Disney Parks Designer Collection ears. Guests will enjoy popping in and out of the shops along Buena Vista Street, where the animator’s studio in Off the Page invites guests to peruse its selection of imaginative keepsakes. One of the newest retail trends are Disney NuiMOs, miniature character plush that can strike a pose in adorable mix and match styles. Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff, the whimsical merchandise and confectionery shop at Pixar Pier, offers a scrumptious selection of treats including specially themed candy apples.
Outdoor carts will carry Disney treasures, too, including themed balloons that have become a must-have for many guests.
Health and safety measures designed for a magical Disney experience
With the health and safety of everyone in mind, A Touch of Disney will operate with limited capacity and enhanced health and safety measures in place based on guidance from health authorities, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and appropriate government agencies.
