The limited-edition bucket is modeled after the rustic little shack from the film’s unforgettable opening scene. Designed with wood plank detailing, uneven edges, and that unmistakable crescent moon cutout on the door, it looks like it was plucked straight out of Shrek’s swamp. The front door even swings open, giving you a second way to grab your popcorn, while a hinged top flap lets you load up from above.

The system, described as a “restraint verification platform,” would gather information from multiple sources, including live video, seat sensors, clasp sensors, proximity sensors, microphones, RFID, LIDAR, rotary encoders, and other hardware. Machine-learning models could then analyze things like passenger position, visible belt length, buckles, lap bars, shoulder straps, vests, and other ride restraint components.

One example in the patent explains how the system could compare what a camera sees with what a sensor measures. If a seat belt appears short on video but a sensor shows it has been pulled out much farther, the system could flag that something may be wrong. That could mean a guest is sitting on part of the belt, the restraint is not positioned correctly, or the rider moved after the initial check.

If the system detects an issue, it could notify a ride operator, stop dispatch, or otherwise alert Cast Members before the vehicle moves. The goal appears to be twofold: adding another layer of safety oversight while potentially reducing the amount of time needed for manual restraint checks.

The technology is currently being utilized at select entry points. When a guest scans their theme park ticket or MagicBand at the turnstile, a camera captures an image of their face. That image is then converted into a unique numerical code, which is linked to the guest’s ticket.

The goal is to eliminate the need for Cast Members to manually take photos of every guest upon their first entry and to prevent ticket fraud by ensuring the same person is using the ticket for subsequent entries or Park Hopping.

For guests who prefer not to use facial recognition for privacy reasons or personal preference, Disneyland has made it clear that you do not have to participate.

If you wish to opt out, simply follow these steps:

Inform the Cast Member: As you approach the entry gate, let the Cast Member know that you would like to opt out of the facial recognition scan.
Manual Entry: You will instead be asked to show a valid photo ID that matches the name on your theme park ticket.
Traditional Photo: A Cast Member will then validate your entry using the traditional method of taking a standard guest photo or checking your ID manually.

Disney has emphasized that the data collected through this system is handled with security in mind. The numerical codes generated by the scans are encrypted and are not shared with third parties. For over 40 years, Disney Cast Member Gary has had a front-row seat to the evolution of Walt Disney World Resort, witnessing the magic blossom season after season. What began as a role as an EPCOT gardener has grown into a distinguished career as an Urban Forester. Today, Gary leads a dedicated team of arborists responsible for the health and beauty of the thousands of trees that define the Disney landscape.

“I originally started because I loved being outdoors and working with plants,” Gary says. “But I soon realized the sheer scale of our impact. We aren’t just gardening; we’re crafting environments that enhance storytelling and guest comfort. Being part of that is a huge point of pride for me.”

From relocating massive trees to supporting the immersive storytelling of alien flora in Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Gary has spent his career balancing Walt Disney World’s continued growth with environmental responsibility and care for the land.

EPCOT has always held a special place in his journey. Gary began his Disney career there decades ago and has witnessed the park’s transformation firsthand, including supporting the very first EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival in 1994.

“At the time, no one imagined it would become what it is today,” Gary says. “Did I expect it to grow into this? No. Not at all. But every year, it gets better.”

While Gary isn’t responsible for planning the festival, he has supported every single one since it began. His role focuses on the behind-the-scenes work that makes the magic possible, from crane operations to large-scale installations, helping bring the festival to life safely, thoughtfully, and sustainably.

Over time, the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival has grown from a simple plant showcase into a park-wide celebration of storytelling, craftsmanship, and horticultural artistry — reflecting EPCOT’s evolution and its continued commitment to blending innovation with nature.

His work reflects a core arboricultural belief: mature trees matter and protecting them requires foresight, patience, and advocacy.

“They provide shade, environmental benefits, and a sense of place you can’t get overnight,” Gary explains. “You can plant new trees, but the benefits of a mature tree are exponential. They’re the backbone of the landscape.”

As Walt Disney World continues to grow and EPCOT evolves, Gary and his team work proactively to inspect trees, manage risk, and preserve existing landscapes—finding thoughtful solutions that support both longstanding infrastructure and new development.

One of Gary’s proudest accomplishments is helping build an arboriculture program that prepares the next generation of cast members to carry this responsibility forward. While he’s quick to credit the teams who do the work every day, his leadership has helped ensure care for the land remains a priority as the resort continues to evolve.

On January 23, a 34-year-old male experienced a seizure while on board. Later, on February 28, a 58-year-old male with a pre-existing condition reported chest pressure. A similar case occurred on March 9, when a 66-year-old female, also with a pre-existing condition, experienced chest pressure during the journey. While the attraction itself is considered low-intensity, these repeated entries stand out in the report.

February 4 saw two separate incidents involving stroke-like symptoms at different parks. A 61-year-old male experienced symptoms while at Jurassic World VelociCoaster, one of the resort’s most intense thrill rides. On that same day, a 58-year-old female with a pre-existing condition reported similar symptoms at Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon, a simulator-style attraction that is generally considered more moderate in intensity.

Water park guests were also included in the report. On February 14, a 7-year-old female at Tot Tiki Reef was reported to have experienced “leg swelling/deformity,” though no further details were provided.

Epic Universe also made its way into the report, with a February 24 incident involving a 39-year-old male who experienced stroke symptoms at Donkey Kong Mine-Cart Madness, one of the park’s headline attractions.
