Walt Disney Imagineering Shares Rare Historical Disneyland Concept Art
Disney history buffs, prepare to have your minds blown! Walt Disney Imagineering has officially opened up its private art collection to share a rare look at the drawings and paintings that shaped Disneyland into the park we know and love today.
In a special bonus installment of the digital series “We Call It Imagineering,” Walt Disney Imagineering President and Chief Creative Officer Bruce Vaughn joined host Denise to showcase three monumentally important pieces of theme park history. Together, they explored how the original designs evolved, proving that even Walt’s best ideas had to be tested, rearranged, and fine-tuned before they could come to life.
The standout piece of the tour was none other than the “crown jewel” of the entire Imagineering collection: Disney Legend Herbert Ryman’s original 1953 concept drawing of Disneyland.
This legendary piece of artwork has an unbelievable backstory. Back in September 1953, Ryman produced this massive, expansive drawing over the course of a single weekend, working intensely side-by-side with Walt Disney himself. Walt needed a way to translate his rapidly growing mental vision into a tangible visualization that could convey the massive scope of the project to potential investors.
While looking at the drawing, it’s easy to recognize the classic “hub and spoke” structure of Disneyland. However, Vaughn points out that the final park didn’t match the paper version perfectly. In fact, entire lands and icons were shifted due to the actual layout and terrain of the Anaheim property.
One of the most fascinating design changes highlighted in the collection involves the placement of Adventureland.
In Ryman’s original weekend sketch, the tropical paradise wasn’t where it stands today. Vaughn explained that during development, the design team scouted the actual Anaheim property and discovered a grove of mature, existing trees. Realizing these trees could immediately provide the lush, dense canopy needed for a realistic tropical environment, Imagineers completely relocated Adventureland to the opposite side of the park.
This hidden piece of history shows that from day one, Imagineering has always been about balancing wild creative ideas with real-world, on-site discoveries.

Update (10:30 a.m.): After speaking with team members at Six Ravens and Gideon’s Bakehouse, it has been confirmed that Six Ravens will not open today as initially expected. Despite hours remaining on the Disney website, Six Ravens shared an Instagram story clarifying that the grand opening is briefly delayed.

Six Ravens pays deep homage to medieval European history and lore, starting with its name—a nod to the legendary resident ravens guarding the Tower of London to this day.

Disney’s newest Deluxe resort is making waves, literally. Fresh aerial photos from bioreconstruct offer an exciting new look at construction on Disney Lakeshore Lodge, where work on the resort’s main pool complex, waterfront dock, and surrounding grounds has made significant progress.
The latest images show the resort’s centerpiece pool taking shape, with the main swimming area now clearly defined. Concrete work appears largely complete, and crews have continued adding pathways, landscaping beds, and decorative elements throughout the expansive pool deck. Palm trees are now in place around portions of the complex, giving guests a better idea of how the finished resort will feel when it opens.
Nearby, the smaller recreation pool and splash play area have also made noticeable progress. Concrete basins have been formed, while themed landscaping and winding walkways continue to connect the various outdoor spaces that will eventually serve as the heart of the resort.
Along Bay Lake, construction has also advanced on the resort’s dock. The structure now extends farther into the water and will eventually provide boat transportation to Magic Kingdom, giving guests another convenient way to travel around Walt Disney World while enjoying scenic views across the lake.
Elsewhere around the property, exterior work continues across the resort’s massive hotel buildings. Roofing, exterior finishes, and balcony installations are progressing steadily, while crews remain busy throughout the central courtyard and arrival areas. The latest aerial views also showcase just how expansive the resort has become, with much of the overall structure now clearly recognizable.
Originally announced as Reflections: A Disney Lakeside Lodge before the project was paused in 2020, the resort was later reimagined as Disney Lakeshore Lodge. Once complete, it will become Walt Disney World’s newest Disney Vacation Club resort, blending waterfront recreation with nature-inspired theming along the shores of Bay Lake.
With the pools taking shape, landscaping expanding, and the dock reaching into Bay Lake, Disney Lakeshore Lodge is beginning to look less like a construction site and more like the relaxing waterfront retreat guests will soon enjoy.

First Ride Scene Begins Taking Shape on Monsters, Inc. Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
The laugh floor is getting a whole lot taller! New aerial photos from bioreconstruct reveal exciting progress on the upcoming Monsters, Inc. suspended roller coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and fans can finally begin to see what appears to be the attraction’s first major show scene taking shape.
The newest construction images show a massive steel structure rising from the enormous show building, with one particularly tall section believed to house the opening moments of the attraction. This is where guests are expected to board their suspended, door-themed ride vehicles before ascending into the iconic door vault made famous in Pixar’s Monsters, Inc.
The intricate web of steel gives an early glimpse at just how ambitious the attraction will be. Disney has already confirmed riders will travel beneath the track, making this the company’s first suspended roller coaster. The attraction is expected to recreate the thrilling finale of the film as guests race through towering racks filled with thousands of children’s bedroom doors.
Construction is also moving quickly throughout the rest of the building. Steel floor decking is already covering portions of the structure, meaning many of the coaster’s support systems and track will soon disappear from view as additional floors, walls, and themed elements are added. Separate track levels are already visible, hinting at a layout that will weave above and below itself throughout the attraction.
Elsewhere around the site, new foundations and utility work appear to mark future queue, maintenance, and gift shop areas as crews continue building out the massive complex.
The Monsters, Inc. coaster is shaping up to be one of the most technologically ambitious attractions Walt Disney Imagineering has ever built. While there’s still plenty of work ahead before guests can race through Monstropolis, each construction update makes that first trip through the famous door vault feel one step closer.

Catherine Laga’aia, who stars as Moana in Disney’s live-action remake, recently visited Magic Kingdom to take on one of Disney Parks’ newest challenges: riding Seven Dwarfs Mine Train without reacting. Spoiler alert… she didn’t make it very far before bursting into laughter.
Before the train even left the station, Laga’aia confidently predicted she’d do “really, really well.” That confidence lasted only moments. As the coaster began winding through the mountain, she quickly started laughing, smiling, and reacting to every twist and turn. After one calmer section, she jokingly declared it was “light work,” only to lose her composure again as the ride picked up speed.
The attraction’s glittering diamond mine proved just as distracting as the drops. Laga’aia couldn’t help but admire the glowing gems and Audio-Animatronics, calling the scene “so cute” and “the coolest thing ever.” She even joined the Seven Dwarfs in singing “It’s Off to Work We Go” before the train raced back outside.
By the end of the ride, despite plenty of laughs, cheers, and raised hands, Laga’aia proudly declared that she had done “phenomenal.” We’d have to agree… even if she technically lost the challenge almost immediately.
The appearance comes just days after the live-action Moana debuted in theaters on July 10. Laga’aia stars alongside Dwayne Johnson, who returns as Maui in the reimagined adventure.
