Atlanta Braves Spring Training Games Have Begun

Braves Spring Training games

Play Ball!  Atlanta Braves spring training games are now underway. The games kicked off this afternoon at Champion Stadium against the Washington Nationals – their National League East division rivals.

This year is the 21st season that the Atlanta Braves have held their spring training workouts at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort. And their lineup of players is an impressive one, with talented newcomers joining seasoned veterans.

The home schedule for Atlanta this spring training season includes games against the Nationals (Feb. 26, March 1), the St. Louis Cardinals (March 3, 17), the New York Yankees (March 9, 24) and the 2017 World Series Champion Houston Astros (March 8).

Making spring training games at Disney a unique experience, fans will be treated to appearances from Disney characters and special moments like kids running the bases after every game.

And if you love ballpark food, Braves fans have several new food options this year, including the new Latin Rice Bowl made with chicken or pork.  You can find the Latin Rice Bowl at the third-base patio at the stadium.

Think nothing goes together better than baseball and beer?  There are 4 new craft beer offerings for fans this season!

The first new craft beer, Chopsecutioner, is produced by the Terrapin Beer Company in Athens, GA. This beer has a citrusy, hoppy flavor which is nicely paired with the beef brisket from Barbecue Smokehouse.

From Bell’s Brewery in Michigan, Bell’s Oberen Ale wheat beer is available and should be paired with the chicken nugget basket from Champion Stadium’s Home Plate Grill.

Una Mas Amber Lager from Left Coast Brewing in California is the third new craft beer.  This beer goes great with the buffalo chicken sandwich at the stadium.  The Dock Light IPA from 3 Daughters Brewing in St. Petersburg, Florida rounds out the new craft beer selections. Pair it with mini-hotdogs and brats from Slider Station on the third-base patio at the stadium.

Braves fans can purchase individual spring training game tickets at www.espnwwos.com/braves, through Ticketmaster outlets (800-745-3000) and at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex Box Office. Tickets range from $15 (general admission berm seating in left field) to $59 (lower level reserved seats).

Will you be heading to a game this spring?

Additions To The Backlot Express Drink Menu

Additions To The Backlot Express Drink Menu

Have you tried the most recent additions to the Backlot Express drink menu? There appears to be a new option from the “adult beverage” category.

First up is the Galactic Lemonade. With a base of lemonade and guava, topped off with Tito’s Handmade Vodka, the force is sure to be strong with this libation.

However, for those looking to quench their thirst without the added spirits, the Padawan Limeade is a tasty option. How could you go wrong with a pomegranate flavored limeade?

Additions To The Backlot Express Drink Menu

The menu continues to offer the Frozen Golden Margarita, Safari Amber Draft, and the Strawberry Daiquiri. Of course, all of the standard beverage options remain on the menu as well (e.g. Coke, Sprite, juice, milk, water).

Remember to grab a bite to eat as well. The food menu maintains items such as the Royal Guard Burger, Chili-Cheese All-Beef Hot Dog, and Dark Side Chicken and Waffles.

Next time you’re at Hollywood Studios give this menu a try and let us know what you think… pass the lemonade!

Pirates of the Caribbean Is Now Closed For Refurbishment

Pirates of the Caribbean Is Now Closed For Refurbishment

It’s official: Pirates of the Caribbean is now closed for refurbishment at the Magic Kingdom. The time has come for the highly controversial change which Disney informed us of last year: the repurposing of the redhead.

Here’s one last look at her final days on auction.

From today until March 19th the attraction will be undergoing a major renovation during which the famous redhead will be joining “Team Pirate”. Where do you stand on this highly debated alteration?

Keep following along with ChipandCo to learn about the changes once the refurbishment is completed.

When Will the 2018 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival Begin?

Fall Disney World

The Epcot International Food & Wine Festival is an incredibly popular annual food festival at Walt Disney World. Epcot guests mix and mingle with celebrity chefs, experience hands-on culinary workshops, and demonstrations and get their gourmet groove on at nightly Eat to the Beat concerts. Usually the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival runs from late September to mid-November, though in recent years the start date has moved forward to begin in late August.

Event highlights that will tempt taste buds, music fans and fun seekers:

  • Global Marketplaces will present fun and delicious menu surprises
  • Eat to the Beat concerts span a broad range of eras and genres such as rock, pop and rhythm and blues
  • Cooking Demonstrations and Dining Events – including experiences with celebrity chefs
  • Mixology Classes and Wine Tastings

The past few years Disney continues to expand the Festival dates culminating last year in the longest running festival (75 days).

  • 2015 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival – September 25 through November 16 (53 days)
  • 2016 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival – September 14 through November 14 (62 days)
    • an increase of 9 days
  • 2017 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival – August 31 through November 13 (75 days)
    • an increase of 13 days

Exact dates and specific information for the 2018 Food and Wine Festival have not been released yet. Based on last year’s dates and the pattern of increasing festival days, I would predict the dates for this year will be August 22-November 12 (83 days).

Aquatica’s Ray Rush Reaches New Heights Ahead of Spring Debut

Aquatica's Ray Rush Reaches New Heights Ahead of Spring Debut

Construction on Aquatica’s new family raft ride, Ray Rush, reached new heights with the installation of one of the attraction’s marquee features. Early Wednesday morning, a colossal 12,000-pound fiberglass sphere was hoisted into place, giving park goers a first look at what their spring visit to Aquatica has in store. Towering 60 feet above the park’s entrance, groups of four riders will swirl up and down the sides of the sphere walls as part of the 508-foot slide experience.

Opening this spring, Ray Rush is where family and friends can take on three exciting thrills as they slide, splash and soar like never before. First, riders will be launched with water jets designed to propel rafts into the first of several enclosed tube sections. Next, riders will swirl into the giant translucent sphere. Finally, riders will drop into an open-air halfpipe that resembles the shape of a manta ray. Rafts will soar back and forth on the wings of the manta before entering the final enclosed tube section that ends with a splash.

Aquatica, SeaWorld’s Waterpark announced the addition of Ray Rush this past October. The new attraction promises to be a fully-loaded water adventure which will combine unique slide elements, never before seen at Aquatica, into one action-packed attraction the entire family can enjoy together. Ray Rush will have a height requirement of 42” to appeal to families with children.

The best way to experience Aquatica is with an Aquatica Orlando Annual Pass. For a limited-time, Florida residents can purchase an Aquatica Orlando Annual Pass for only $10 per month with EZpay. Aquatica Pass Members enjoy unlimited admission and free parking as well as discounts and the opportunity to be among the first to ride Ray Rush when it opens in spring 2018. For more information, visit AquaticaOrlando.com.

Runner from Spain wins Disney’s Princess Half Marathon

Runner from Spain wins Disney's Princess Half Marathon

Victor Da Costa Mendoza of Spain can now check off “winning a half marathon” from his vacation bucket list. In a sprint to the finish, Mendoza celebrated a fairy tale ending to the 10th annual Disney’s Princess Half Marathon, sweeping past the competition with a winning time of 1:19:03. Matching step for step with top racers, Mendoza found his stride around mile nine, pulling away to win the 13.1-mile race. Crossing the line after Mendoza was Mark Ruhsam of Orlando, FL (1:27:26) and Zachary Thomas of Austin, TX (1:28:49).

For Da Costa Mendoza, who’s visiting Walt Disney World Resort on vacation, today is about more than winning.

“It’s about having fun, honestly,” said Da Costa Mendoza. “I won it, but it’s not about winning, it’s about having fun.”

Winning the women’s division, Dani Cook, of Fort Collins, CO, was running alongside her sister-in-law when the pixie dust of encouragement pushed her forward to take the crown as the top female finisher with a time of 1:20:31. As a former Indiana State runner and trained athlete, top finishes aren’t new for Cook but the female support which epitomizes the Disney Princess Half Marathon marks a new milestone in her career. Cook was followed by Natasha Baskin from Montverde, FL (1:22:52) and Elle Ellender from Hilton Head, SC (1:24:38).

“To see a lot of women, feel empowered and triumph for the first time, and to have that comradery out there, really empowers you while you’re running the race,” said Cook.

Cook joined more than 53,800 runners who participated in the largest women-focused running event in the country. In addition to the half marathon, the race weekend included a 5K, 10K, Kid’s Races, and the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo. Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend is one of four race weekends at Walt Disney World Resort, followed by the Star Wars Half Marathon – The Dark Side Weekend sponsored by OtterBox on April 19 – April 22.

Pixar Animator Bud Luckey passes away

Pixar Animator Bud Luckey passes away

It is being reported that Pixar Animator Bud Luckey passed away yesterday at the age of 83. His son Andy Luckey posted the information on his Facebook page yesterday:

Bud Luckey 1934-2018

With great sadness, I announce the passing of my Dad: Bud Luckey.

My Dad was best known for his work in animation (PIXAR/Disney/Sesame Street) and as a voice actor (Eeyore, Agent Rick Dicker, Chuckles the Clown et al.). He loved his work but got even greater satisfaction from seeing others enjoy it.

He’ll be deeply missed by his friends, family, and colleagues to whom he was just “Bud.” His kind and easy
going demeanor led his PIXAR colleagues to dub him “Bud Low-Key.”

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

In lieu of flowers, our family encourages donations to The California Institute of The Arts — Bud Luckey Scholarship Fund.

Luckey began his career in 1992 with Pixar. He wrote, directed, and performed all the voices in the Pixar short film Boundin’. Luckey also did the voice of Rick Dicker in The Incredibles and the Pixar short Jack-Jack Attack. He was also the voice of Chuckles the Clown in Toy Story 3 and reprised his role in Toy Story Toons.

Bud was born in 1934 in Billings, Montana.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
