Disneyland Paris Announces Major Expansion Including Star Wars, Marvel, and Frozen Lands

Exciting news coming out of Disneyland Paris this morning! Chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, Bob Iger, announced plans for a 2 billion euro, multi-year expansion for Disneyland Paris! French President, Emmanuel Macron, was also with Iger at the Palais de l’Elysée in Paris for the announcement. The new development will include a transformation of the Walt Disney Studios Park, adding three new areas that are based on Marvel, Frozen and Star Wars, along with multiple new attractions and live entertainment experiences.

The expansion plan is one of the most ambitious development projects at Disneyland Paris since its opening in 1992 and underscores the Company’s commitment to the long-term success of the resort as Disney’s brand beacon in Europe.

“We’re very excited about the future of Disneyland Paris and continue to invest in its long-term success,” said Robert A. Iger, chairman and chief executive officer of The Walt Disney Company.  “The resort is already the leading tourist destination in Europe, and the transformative expansion we announced today will add even more of our beloved characters and unparalleled storytelling to create new lands, attractions, and entertainment that further elevate the guest experience and drive new opportunities for tourism in this dynamic region.”

The new areas will infuse some of Disney’s most popular stories and characters into this unique destination, building upon the success of the resort’s 25th Anniversary celebration and continuing to enhance the guest experience for millions of Europeans.

The multi-year development will roll out in phases beginning in 2021, significantly expanding the Walt Disney Studios Park.  In addition to the three new areas, the creative vision includes a new lake, which will be the focal point for entertainment experiences and will also connect each of the new park areas.

In the spring of 2017, Disneyland Paris kicked off its 25th Anniversary celebration including new entertainment and experiences for guests.  The resort also completed a two-year refurbishment program, updating and renovating many of the classic attractions in the parks, as well as opening multiple new entertainment shows such as Mickey and the Magician, which won a 2017 International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions theme park industry award for “Best Theatrical Production.”  Additionally, several major renovations took place at the resort’s hotels including Disney’s Newport Bay Club, which is now a four-star hotel.

Marvel

Just this month, Disneyland Paris announced plans for a new Marvel-themed attraction that will be coming to the Walt Disney Studios, part of the new Marvel area development.  In 2020, the resort will open Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel, a reimagining of Disney’s Hotel New York that will showcase the inspiring worlds of Iron Man, The Avengers, and Spider-Man, among others. And this summer, the Marvel Summer of Super Heroes seasonal event will take place at Disneyland Paris, where guests can meet their favorite heroes and experience new live entertainment.

Europe’s number one tourist destination, Disneyland Paris boasts two spectacular theme parks (Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park) and seven themed Disney hotels with 5,800 rooms (more than 2,700 rooms are available in Selected and Associated Hotels).  Two full-service convention centers and a world-class 27-hole golf course are also present. In addition to this, the destination is home to Disney Village – one of the largest entertainment complexes in the Ile-de-France region.  Disney Village proposes themed dining, shopping and cinema experiences.  Disneyland Paris comprises 59 attractions, 63 shops, and 55 restaurants.

The 25th Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival begins February 28! The festival is well known for it’s beautiful Disney topiaries, and delicious cuisine. Of course there is also beautiful commemorative merchandise to find as well. This year’s Epcot Flower and Garden Merchandise is filled with stunning and artistic designs.

There are four art collections that have been designed for the festival merchandise, and they complement the Festival’s overall design.

There is the “Mickey’s Grove” collection that features Mickey Mouse, Pluto, and Orange Bird. This collection has an assortment of apparel, accessories, home décor, and more.

Our favorite purple dragon is not forgotten in his very own “Figment Discovers” collection. You’ll find apparel, drinkware, and even garden decor.

The “Fresh Epcot” collection highlights the natural splendor of Florida, and is brightly colored. This collection will have everything from a t-shirt to collectible pins.

Lastly, there is the “Minnie’s Farmhouse Flower Shop” collection. This assortment features gorgeous artwork of Minnie Mouse with her cat Figaro designing beautiful floral creations in her flower shop. The Banana Corn Dog Returns to Award Wieners

The Banana Corn Dog returns to Award Wieners at Disney’s California Adventure. If you missed the chance to try this last year, you are now in luck.

This delectable little snack is served up as two bananas, dipped in corn and honey batter, fried up and topped with a sprinkle of powdered sugar. In addition, it is complemented by two dipping sauces: chocolate and vanilla cream. This gift to Disney foodies will set guests back $7.49.

Award Wieners is known for serving up uniquely topped hot dogs and sausages such as the Spicy City Dog (a cheddar-jalapeno sausage topped with chipotle crema, queso fresco and pico de gallo) and the Bacon Street Dog (all-beef hot dog dipped in house-made roasted red pepper ketchup topped with grilled onions, bell peppers, and crispy bacon crumbles). In Celebration of “Black Panther,” Disney Donates $1 Million to Youth STEM Program

Disney donates $1 million STEM

To celebrate the huge success of Marvel’s “Black Panther,” The Walt Disney Company is making a $1 million donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). This donation will be used to help expand the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programs of the Boys & Girls Clubs.  Those programs support the high-tech skills that were a major theme in the plot of “Black Panther” and are essential in helping youth succeed.

“Marvel Studios’ ‘Black Panther’ is a masterpiece of movie making and has become an instant cultural phenomenon, sparking discussion, inspiring people young and old, and breaking down age-old industry myths,” said Robert A. Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company. “It is thrilling to see how inspired young audiences were by the spectacular technology in the film, so it’s fitting that we show our appreciation by helping advance STEM programs for youth, especially in underserved areas of the country, to give them the knowledge and tools to build the future they want.”

This one-time grant will be used by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to further develop its existing national STEM curriculum and establish new STEM Centers of Innovation in 12 communities across the country. The curriculum and new centers will serve and inspire kids and teens, with an emphasis in the following communities: Atlanta, GA; Baltimore, MD; Chicago, IL; Harlem, NY; Hartford, CT; Memphis, TN; New Orleans, LA; Oakland, CA; Orlando, FL; Philadelphia, PA; Washington, DC; Watts, CA.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Centers of Innovation provide youth with hands-on, advanced technologies that stimulate creative approaches to STEM exploration, including robotics, 3-D printers, conferencing equipment and high-definition video production. Plus a fully dedicated STEM expert will offer individual and group support to help Club members develop their STEM skills and critical thinking using real-world applications.

“From hands-on interactive programs to critical thinking, Boys & Girls Clubs of America is committed to providing thousands of young people with the tools they need to prepare for a great future,” said Jim Clark, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. “Thanks to Disney’s support, we can expand our outreach and allow more youth to find their passions and discover STEM careers.”

A focus area of The Walt Disney Company’s social responsibility efforts is helping children and teens learn new skills for the future, like STEM. The company is dedicated to delivering comfort, happiness, opportunity and inspiration to children and families around the world.

Looking for a unique and memorable activity to do at the Epcot Flower & Garden Festival this year? Then, make sure to stop by Barrels on the Bay’s “Brighten a Barrel” booth!

Barrels by the Bay is back at the Flower & Garden Festival for a second year to host a ‘Brighten a Barrel’ activity in Epcot. This year, during the kick-off weekend, Barrels by the Bay has teamed up with Walt Disney World, Coca-Cola Beverages Florida (Coke Florida), and the Orlando City Mayor Buddy Dyer’s Green Works Initiative. From March 2-4, 2018 Guests visiting the Flower & Garden Festival will paint 40 rain barrels for the local community at the ‘Brighten a Barrel’ activity station. A rain barrel is a system that collects and stores rainwater from a roof, preventing rainwater runoff pollution that could flow into streams, rivers, and oceans.

Brighten a Barrel

Guests will be invited to paint a rain barrel from 10AM-5:30PM each day at the center of the park near the Epcot fountain. ‘Brighten a Barrel’ gives guests of all ages the opportunity to learn more about their local waterways and how storm water runoff concerns can be minimized through rain barrels. Volunteers will be on hand to talk with guests about rain barrels and ways to protect their community’s waterways. The rain barrels being painted are recycled Coke Florida syrup barrels that will be converted into rain barrels. Orlando City Mayor Buddy Dyer’s Green Works Initiative has assisted with finding installation locations for the painted barrels in Orange County, to help protect the community’s water resources.

Barrels by the Bay is a non-profit organization committed to educating individuals about conservation and sustainability through rain barrels.

Walt Disney World Could See Another Ticket Price Increase This Year

Walt Disney World just recently increased the price of single day tickets on February 11 and for tickets with packages on February 21. Per Walt Disney Company’s CEO and President, Bob Iger, another increase could be coming at the end of the year as well.

If you have recently purchased a single day Walt Disney World ticket, you are familiar with the “surge pricing” structure. This basically means that each day of the year falls in to one of three tiers: value, regular, and peak. Your ticket price for your single day ticket varies depending on which theme park you visit and which day you visit. Currently, there is also a premium to visit the Magic Kingdom with a one day ticket.

Iger stated today, February 26, on the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference that Walt Disney World is looking to change multi-day tickets to this tier or “surge pricing” structure. That means, Guests can expect to see a price increase during peak times and less expensive ticket prices during slower times. All of this is an effort to level out the crowds throughout the calendar year. Iger said, ” The pricing initiative good for the guest experience and the company’s bottom line.”

It also sounds like Iger is looking forward to 2019 and the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World and Disneyland. He stated, “They’re the largest lands we’ve ever build. They are big. They are big in terms of footprint, and they’ll be big in terms of experience.”

There is no word at this time if the “surge pricing” on multi-day ticketswill also be rolled out in Disneyland.

Disney Partners With Samsung

Samsung has partnered with Disney to bring familiar characters to its AR Emoji feature, Mickey Mouse!

With the unveiling of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus, two of the most highly-anticipated phones of 2018, we also saw the introduction of AR Emoji. Essentially Samsung’s take on Apple’s Animoji feature, AR Emoji lets you create a 3D emoji version of yourself, which mirrors your movements and facial expressions, not unlike Apple’s Animoji. In a way, however, AR Emoji is a combination of Snapchat’s Bitmoji and Apple’s Animoji because it aims to replicate your facial features and create an adaptive 3D avatar of you.

Galaxy S9 users will also have the option to create emoji versions of themselves through more familiar characters: Disney characters, to be more specific.

It is unclear whether Disney characters will remain exclusive to Samsung devices. Disney’s CEO Bob Iger sits on Apple’s board, and the two companies share a long-standing business relationship.

We visited Hollywood Studios yesterday and thought you’d like to see some of the construction progress being made at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. I combined our photos with the fantastic aerial images taken by @bioreconstruct to give you a more detailed overview.

You can see how massive Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is going to be. The big question on everyone’s mind is where is the Star Wars Hotel going to located?

Guests will be in the cockpit of the Millenium Falcon, piloting the ship, shooting blasters or preparing for hyperspace – all while completing a critical mission.

The “Battle Escape” attraction building contains 2 very large AT-AT walkers. This new attraction puts guests on a Star Destroyer and will make them feel like they’re inside a hangar bay in the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance.

Here is the ground view of the backside of the Battle Escape show building. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will begin transporting guests to a galaxy far far away beginning in 2019.
