Mulan Casts Jason Scott Lee

Disney’s Mulan casts Jason Scott Lee. Lee will be playing the role of Bori Khan, a warrior leader looking to avenge his father’s death.  Along side Gong Li, who is playing a powerful witch with designs on the country, Lee will be one of the films main antagonists.

And this won’t be Lee’s first time in a Disney movie.  In 1994 he played Mowgli in the live-action Jungle Book film.  He also lent his voice to the role of  David Kawena in Lilo & Stitch. He is probably best known for his leading role in the 1993 film Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story.  While recent credits include Netflix’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny and the indie film Burn Your Maps.

Lee joins Yifei Liu as Mulan, Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Jet Li as The Emperor and Yoson An as Chen Honghui (Mulan’s new love interest) in this upcoming film.  The cast also includes Utkarsh Ambudkar, Ron Yuan, Roger Yuan, Xana Tang and Chum Ehelepola.

Niki Caro will be directed this live-action remake of the Disney animated classic.  There will be some notable differences – like Mulan’s love interest being switched and the addition of other new characters  – but we can’t wait to this film on the big screen! Filming will happen in New Zealand and a release date of March 27, 2020 has been set.

Today is the day for some Be Our Guest dinner news! The new prix-fixe menu for the Be Our Guest dinner in the Magic Kingdom will make its debut! While Disney shared a preview of the menu a few months ago but today we are happy to share the complete dinner menu with you.

As part of the prix-fixe offering, guests will select one appetizer and one entree from the following:

Appetizers

  • Escargot
  • Mixed Field Greens
  • French Onion Soup
  • Charred Octopus
  • Maine Lobster Bisque
  • Assorted Meats and Artisanal Cheese Selection

Entrees

  • Center-Cur Filet Mignon
  • Spice-Dusted Lamb Chops
  • Smoked Ricotta and Corn Tortellini
  • Poulet Rouge Chicken
  • Saffron-Infused Seafood Bouillabaisse

On July 28th, Disney celebrates National Dance Day! On this day of dance, dancers from around the country will celebrate dance education and get us moving our feet to the beat! But Disney Performing Arts celebrates dance every day of the year by offering year-round workshops and performance opportunities for dance groups of all levels.

Dancers shine all year long at Disney Parks. There are workshops that allow students to rehearse routines from several Disney Parks shows.  And there are performance opportunities where dancers can wow Guests at both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort.

New Animal Kingdom Cast Member Costumes

If you have been to Disney’s Animal Kingdom since April 22nd, then you may have noticed the new Cast Members costumes. The Cast Member costumes are now displaying some of the threatened and endangered species that Disney is working to conserve in the wild. The Cast Member costumes feature a mosaic design with stories behind them. Some of them may even surprise you! For example, did you know that more than 20,000 species of butterfly have been found around the world?

The Animal Kingdom Cast Members are able to choose among 3 styles. They feature animals that fly, such as butterflies and cranes. Animals that swim, such as turtles, sharks, stingrays. And animals that are land-dwelling, such as tigers, gorillas, elephants, and rhinos. The different costumes will be seen in different lands of the park.

If you have ever spoken to a Cast Member at Animal Kingdom, you might find that they are very knowledgeable about these special animals and may even teach you about the magic and beauty of nature and the importance of Disney’s conservation efforts around the world.

The more our cast members can be advocates for their favorite animals, the more inspired our Guests will be to take actions that help support these animals in the wild. This is just another way our Guests also learn more about Disney’s global conservation efforts through research, fieldwork and the Disney Conservation Fund. The Disney Conservation Fund has directed more than $70 million to reverse the decline of wildlife in more than half the countries in the world.

The Walt Disney Company Will Buy 21st Century Fox for $71.3 Billion

We have been covering the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by The Walt Disney Company since it was first announced. At one point, Comcast also made a bid to acquire 21st Century Fox, but they later backed out. Today, after a vote by shareholders on both sides, the deal has been confirmed.

The Walt Disney Company and 21st Century Fox special shareholder meetings were held in their respective offices but at the same time. LaughingPlace.com reported that The Walt Disney Company shareholders approved the deal first and 21st Century Fox shareholders voted next to confirm the deal.

Once the vote was held on both sides, it is now official that The Walt Disney Company will purchase 21st Century Fox for a whopping $71.3 Billion. The deal is expected to close sometime in 2019. It’s important to note that the head of Disney, Bob Iger, and the head of 21st Century Fox, Robert Murdoch, were not in attendance at either meeting.

Magic of Disney Store at Orlando International Airport Closes

The Magic of Disney store at Orlando International Airport has closed. That space will be an upcoming checkpoint location. The Magic of Disney store is 1 of 2 Disney stores in the airport. The other is Disney’s EarPort, which is located at Main Terminal, Level 3, near the Hyatt atrium. The Magic of Disney store will not be closing permanently. It is just being moved to a different location in the airport. Exact opening date not announced yet for 2019.

Disney’s EarPort store is located at the Main Terminal near the Hyatt atrium. Bring home a piece of the magical world of Disney with an array of accessories and apparel featuring some of the most beloved childhood characters of all time. The store has at least three fun and free photo opportunities. To the right of the store, visitors will find an almost-life-size statue of Snow White sitting on a royal banquette, where they can join her. On the opposite side is Goofy trying to balance a stack of cookies. The center facade features a raised image that contains Mickey Mouse and an icon from each of the four parks at Walt Disney World.

A Special ‘Partysaurus’ Guest Made an Appearance at Disney H2O Glow Nights!

As part of Incredible Summer, Typhoon Lagoon hosted H2O Glow Nights and joined in on the fun. At H2O Glow Nights “Toy Story” pals will throw glow parties at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park. Hosted by Partysaurus Rex and the Toy Story Gang, this new nighttime H2O Glow Night splash bash, takes place on select nights through August 11. With character meet and greets, thrilling attractions and even a DJ dance party on the beach it’s sure to be a night won’t want to miss!

Mark Walsh, Pixar Animation Studios director and animator, joined Guests last month at H2O Glow Nights- the ultimate glow party of the summer. Mark directed the short film “Partysaurus Rex,” and Toy Story toon about Rex’s fun and luminous tub party with bath toys. Mark really made Partysuarus Rex come to life! Mark has worked as an animator on some Pixar favorites, including “Ratatouille,” “The Incredibles,” “Finding Nemo,” “Toy Story 2,” and “A Bug’s Life.”

On select summer nights starting June 21, special lighting effects will transform the water park like never before as Buzz, Woody and Jessie throw a Beach Party inspired by their friend, “Partysaurus” Rex. Come join the fun, dance on the beach, play party games, and meet up with Buzz, Woody, and Jessie, plus, all attractions are open for guest enjoyment.

I don’t know about you, but I was blown away by the photos we shared a few days ago from an Adventures by Disney Iceland vacation. Today, I would love to share photos from the second half of this 8-day, 7-night Adventures by Disney vacation featuring waterfalls, horses, glacial lakes, and much more.

On day four of this vacation, adventurers flew to Akureyri which is in the Northern section of Iceland. When they arrived, they visited a quaint fishing village and even got to take their best shot a reeling some of the big ones in!

What might of been the highlight of the trip for me was when they were cruising through the longest fjord in Iceland and were able to get up close to a humpback whale. Check out the video below!

Also included on the Iceland Adventures by Disney itinerary was a visit to a distinctive Icelandic turf house estimated to date back to the 1800s. There was also a visit to Gooafoss Waterfalls which means “Waterfall of the Gods.” Adventures also made visited the lava fields at Dimmuborgir or the “black castle.”

Adventurers also had fun getting into the local legends and customs. Yule Lads, mischievous boys who are akin to a trouble-making Santa Claus, made a special visit. And, guests took part in baking Iceland’s famous brown Geysir bread, which the locals commonly call “Bread in a Bucket,” where dough is placed in buckets, buried underground and baked by the heat from nearby hot springs.

Disney’s Remake of Lady and The Tramp Casts First Role with Ashley Jensen

Disney’s Lady and The Tramp remake has cast its first role! Ashley Jensen is tapped to voice the role of Scottish Terrier Jackie, originally known as Jock, in the film for Disney’s upcoming streaming service.  This supporting character is a loyal friend to Lady.

Jensen’s other credits include an Emmy nomination for her role in BBC-HBO series Extras and regular appearances on ABC’s Ugly Betty. You may have also seen her in the recent Amazon original Catastrophe. When it comes to the big screen her resume includes  The Lobster and Hysteria as well as supporting roles in major family movies including Gnomeo & Juliet, The Pirates! Band Of Misfits and Arthur Christmas.

Hopefully, we will have more casting information soon as Disney is in the process of filling lead and supporting roles for the movie, which could potentially go into production later this year.

It was recently announced by Disney that Charlie Bean, director of The Lego Ninjango Movie would be taking the reins of this live-action/CG hybrid update of the animated classic.

The script for the new live-action/CG adaptation was written by Andrew Bujalski and Brigham Taylor is producing.

This film will not have a theatrical release, but rather will be a feature film for the upcoming Disney streaming service set to launch next year.

This is one of my favorite animated Disney films and I really cannot wait to see this new version.  And I’m even more excited now that casting information is being announced!

The live-action remakes of animated Disney classics have been hugely successful. It makes sense that Disney will continue to purse live-action versions of their most beloved films. Let’s take a look at upcoming Disney live-action films!

There is also talk of not one, but two, live-action films inspired by the classic, Peter Pan. Tink, which would focus on our favorite Pixie has been in development for a while now. While Elizabeth Banks was once attached to it, now it looks like Reese Witherspoon is set to star.
