Paint the Night Incredibles Float

Have you had the chance to check out the Paint the Night Incredibles float during the Disney California Adventure park parade yet? The Parr family, with their pal Frozone, bring all of the fun and excitement of “The Incredibles” to life with high-tech, pop-art effects during this electrifying parade.

During the construction of this innovative float, Disney made sure to document what went in to building it. Check out this video to see the progression of the float over several months – you’ll also learn some incredible facts!

Here are some more “Incredible” facts:

The “art wall” around the rear base of the float uses 134 fixtures, all exactly nine inches apart to create the “sine wave” curve effect.
123 individual LED Panels make up the 13 buildings; only 2 of these are exactly the same size and shape.
The penthouse floor of of one of the buildings has 112 individual windows, each with its own miniature LED light source.
Nearly 200 individually programmable lights are embedded in the buildings, The Underminer’s drill and Frozone’s ice trail.

Disney Is Looking to Change the Future of Virtual Reality with a Moving Floors Patent

As always, Disney is looking for ways to be on the forefront of technology. They are always looking for new ways for guests to experience Disney Parks and their attractions. One form of technology that they have been trying to bring to the next level is Virtual Reality. However, one problem that have ran into with Virtual Reality is the ability for guests to move around the same location without running into other guests or even walls. This is where the new “Floor Systems Providing Omnidirectional Movement of Person Walking in a Virtual Reality Environment” patent comes in.

The patent filed by Disney Enterprises, LLC lays out a few different ways Disney hopes to make a flawless multi-person Virtual Reality system possible. They are as follows:

The first system outlined uses small rotating disks. The disks would then be able to move individually or as one system to manipulate the direction they are heading.
Another system mentioned in the patent is a platform with small plates that vibrate. The tiles would be able to be moved and in turn lead a guest to where they are supposed to go and avoid other guests and walls.
The final system mentioned is one that uses something similar to a treadmill and magnets. A guest would apply magnets to their shoes and in turn, would provide friction to alter one’s direction.

It is important to note that Disney is always actively looking on ways to improve the theme park experience and patents are filed routinely. It’s hard to know if this idea will be applied to Disney’s Virtual Reality experiences in the future like the current Star Wars “The Void” attraction at Disney Springs.

Disney is Seeking Rights of ‘Star Wars’ Back from TBS and TNT for Streaming Service

Earlier this year, Disney launched its ESPN-branded multi-sport video streaming service, and will soon be launching a new Disney-brand direct-to-consumer streaming service in 2019. When this was announced last year, there was talk that Marvel and LucasFilm may not be included in the streaming service but instead could be given their own platform. Well, it seems as though Disney is wanting to acquire back the right of ‘Star Wars’ to offer on their new streaming service.

Disney has made inquiries about regaining those rights, but according to sources that asked to remain unidentified, could not come to an agreement. Turner Broadcasting, who owns TBS and TNT, owns the rights to show the ‘Star Wars’ films on their networks and online until 2024. According to Bloomberg, the programmer would want financial considerations and programming to replace the lost films, one person said. The talks haven’t advanced further.

Before the plans for the streaming service were complete, Disney sold some rights to Turner in 2016. Since then, 4 new ‘Star Wars’ films have been released since Disney acquired LucasFilm in 2012, with plans for another film to be released next year. Turner Broadcasting paid about $275 million for the six ‘Star Wars’ movies released between 1977 and 2005, plus the newer titles.

Disney is already terminating their deal with Netflix that gave the company rights to new releases, including four “Star Wars’’ titles. That deal expires at the end of this year.

Shanghai Disney Resort Disney Inspiration Run Sponsors Will Include SKECHERS

Shanghai Disney Resort has announced the Disney Inspiration Run sponsors for the inaugural race. This includes a new corporate alliance with the event’s Presenting Sponsor – SKECHERS. Chevrolet, which has a previously established corporate alliance with the resort, has also been named as the Official Sponsor of the resort’s new running event.

SKECHERS, will offer exclusive promotions and a training camp experience through its online platform and selected retail stores as part of the presenting sponsorship. Guests will also see a strong brand presence throughout the run and across a variety of diverse platforms – on participant apparel, in the race packs distribution center, and at the SKECHERS pop-up space in Disneytown.

“The Disney Inspiration Run will allow runners of all ages and skill levels to enjoy an unforgettable experience that delivers both distinctive Disney features and the high standards of a professional race,” said Philippe Gas, general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort. “We are pleased SKECHERS is joining as the Presenting Sponsor and will work closely together to create a magical event that engages the community and promotes a healthy, active lifestyle.”

Speaking about the new multi-year alliance, Willie Tan, CEO of SKECHERS China commented, “We are thrilled to be collaborating with Shanghai Disney Resort on this one-of-a-kind run. SKECHERS is committed to creating enhanced fitness apparel experiences for Chinese consumers, with products that deliver maximum comfort and style. We look forward to working together with Shanghai Disney Resort to help create happy memories and healthy habits for all those involved.”

As the Official Sponsor of the Disney Inspiration Run, Chevrolet will have an integrated brand presence throughout the event, including on participant apparel and in the race center. Chevrolet will also provide cooling towels for all runners.

Shanghai Disney Resort also revealed that Make-A-Wish Shanghai will be the Official Charity Partner of the 2018 Disney Inspiration Run. During the event, Make-A-Wish Shanghai will host a charity booth to share their commitment to creating life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. The resort will also continue to work with the organization to make wishes come true for children when they need it most.

Registration for the event will begin on July 2nd at 10:00am. The 2018 Disney Inspiration Run will feature 3.5 km, 5 km and 10 km routes, for participants of all ages and fitness levels. The 3.5 km and 5 km runs will be held on Saturday, September 15, followed by the 10 km run on Sunday, September 16. Racers can be as young at 5 years old to participate in some of the runs with the 10km race being open to serious runners ages 16 and older.
