The Best of Walt Disney World Food & Drink 2018

Best Food of WDW 2018

I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite things about Walt Disney World is the food!  Every year, chefs set to work creating the most iconic creations the “world” has ever seen.  2018 was no exception.  Let’s break down the best of Walt Disney World food & drink for 2018.

We saw so many new restaurants and eateries open this year!  Caribbean Beach Resort’s renovations brought with it the addition of Sebastian’s’ Bistro, along with a new look and taste for Centertown Market and Banana Cabana.  Over at Coronado Springs, the over-the-water Spyglass Grill serves up Caribbean inspired Latin dishes, like the Caribbean Taco Trio.  Just last month we saw the debut of a brand-new character dining experience, Storybook Dining at Artist Point.

Snow White and her friends visit with guests while they dine on a menu inspired by the classic film.  Disney also got us ready for the big game over at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex with the addition of seven new concession stands and more than 30 snack carts featuring all new menus. Perfect for a pre-game meal, or a quick snack between events.

Best Food of WDW 2018

Disney Springs experienced its own restaurant renaissance with the addition of 8 new locations!  Italian eateries Maria & Enzo’s, Pizza Ponte, Enzo’s Hideaway and Terralina Crafted Italian, all debuted in 2018.  Each establishment offers its own unique take on regional Italian food in settings that vary from an underground speakeasy to a lakeside villa.  The addition of the Edison, Wine Bar George, Chicken Guy! and Wolfgang Puck Bar and Grill, round out the places to add to your list for your next visit.

The Best of Walt Disney World Food & Drink 2018

One of the most exciting debuts of 2018 was Toy Story Land!  Along with it came so many fun treats that looked like they popped right out of Andy’s lunch box.  One of my personal favorites are the Lunch Box Tarts, which come in Chocolate Hazelnut, Raspberry and (exclusively for the holidays) Cinnamon Cran-Apple!  They’re also serving up specialty beverages like the Mystic Portal Punch, served in an Alien Sipper, complete with “The Claw”.  Oooooooooooooooh.

Best Food of WDW 2018

Of course, Disney always steps up their game for Epcot’s annual festivals.  In addition to the International Food & Wine Festival, this year the International Festival of the Arts, International Flower & Garden Festival, and the International Festival of the Holidays each featured numerous food booths.  Even Groot made an appearance in his own sipper cup, featuring slushies inspired by the Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Best of Walt Disney World Food & Drink 2018

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… for snacks!  From September through December, the holiday celebrations at Walt Disney World always have the best treats.  Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party brought us the seasons most polarizing snack, Candy Corn. Served in the form of a spooktacular milkshake!  Snack time over at Hollywood Studios was a “Flurry of Fun” with holiday shortbread cookies.  And let’s not forget the Gingerbread Spice Beignets over at Sassagoula Floatworks.  SO TASTY!

Best Food of WDW 2018

Last but certainly not least, we have to give a nod to the snacks that launched an Insta-worthy sensation.  Influencers rejoiced when the Rose Gold Cupcake debuted at Sunshine Seasons in Epcot.  Followed closely by the Millennial Pink Milkshake at Auntie Gravities in Magic Kingdom.  This opened the floodgates for pastel treats galore from cream puffs and cake pops, to a signature bubbly topped with chocolate!

What a fantastic year for enjoying all of the culinary delights Walt Disney World had to offer.  2019 is shaping up to be full of promise, and snacks, as well. With even more restaurants coming to Disney Springs, brand new resort hotels, and the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – I can’t wait to taste what’s in store!

All Star Music Introduces a Princess Merida Cupcake

All Star Music Introduces a Merida Cupcake

The All Star Music Resort introduced a new character icon cupcake at the Intermission Food Court and it’s pretty fierce! The same resort that brought us the Little Mermaid cupcake and the Maleficent cupcake is back with a delightful culinary creation channeling the strong princess Merida!

Princess Merida would definitely approve of this sweet treat. The chocolate cupcake is topped with green and orange buttercream frosting, dotted with gold crisp pearls and has a chocolate arrow piercing through the top. Green and silver glitter give the treat extra sparkle.

For those guests on the Disney Dining Plan, the Princess Merida cupcake is an excellent use of a snack credit. If you do not have the Disney Dining Plan, you can purchase for only $5.99. The All Star Music Resort has plenty of options to accompany your treat. You can use your resort refillable mug and grab soda, coffee or tea. Or, you may choose to grab a beer flight at the Singing Spirits Pool Bar. Either way, you’ll have plenty to options to wash down the Princess Merida Cupcake!

Marathon Weekend to Impact Several Roads at Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend Road Closings

The Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend is one of the most popular events of the year and will take place from Saturday, January 12th to Sunday, January 13th, 2019. This is an exciting time for marathon participants and their supporters who train all year for the event. Due to mandatory road closures, it also presents some challenges for maneuvering around the property during the race.

From 5 to 8:30 am Saturday and Sunday, World Drive will be closed in both directions. The closure will stretch from the main entrance of Disney’s Contemporary Resort to Seven Seas Drive. During that time, any resort guests in a personal vehicle will need to take a 12-mile detour outside of the property via Winter Garden Vineland Road (CR 535) and Reams Road.

Disney’s complimentary transportation will still be available during this time. It is highly recommended that all guests use buses to get to their destinations. Those with dining reservations at Disney’s Contemporary Resort will travel to the Transportation and Ticket Center by resort bus, then transfer to the resort monorail line. Be aware that this route will undoubtedly increase travel time. As a result, guests wanting to use this option should plan for at least an hour in transit from other resorts.

Guests driving in from North of Walt Disney World:

  1. Take Reams Road.
  2. Turn right on Silverlake Park Drive.
  3. Turn right on Winter Garden Vineland Road (CR 535).
  4. Turn right on South Apopka Vineland Road (SR 535).
  5. Merge on to I-4 West.
  6. Take exit 67 for Buena Vista Drive.

Guests driving in from South of Walt Disney World:

  1. Take I-4 to exit 68 for SR 535.
  2. Turn left on South Apopka Vineland Road (SR 535).
  3. Turn left on Winter Garden Vineland Road (CR 535).
  4. Turn left on Silverlake Park Drive.
  5. Take the third exit on the roundabout onto Reams Road.
  6. Take a left on Floridian Place.
  7. Take a left onto Center Drive.

Legoland Florida Now Open More Than Ever Before

LEGO Enthusiasts rejoice! LEGOLAND Florida recently released their calendar for 2019 and revealed some major changes. LEGOLAND will no longer close on Tuesdays; offering more park days than ever before!

Legoland Florida no longer closing Tuesdays

In recent years, LEGOLAND Florida has been closed on select Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the slower seasons.  For 2019, the LEGOLAND Park will now remain open on Tuesdays! Taco Tuesday anyone??

The park will be closed only 19 days this year.  (Keep in mind that dates and park hours are subject to change without notice).  With the opening of LEGO Movie World and the addition of 3 new rides, 2019 is a great time visit!

Legoland florida water park

As if that wasn’t enough, LEGOLAND Florida’s Water Park is also adding additional days to the 2019 calendar. Opening early March 2019 through late October 2019, there are more days than ever before to enjoy this family favorite. Plan your visit today to float in Build-A-Raft River, splash around in DUPLO Splash Safari, or soak up some fun at the Joker Soaker!

Construction Continues on the Space 220 Restaurant at Epcot

Construction Update on Space 220 Restaurant at Epcot

Construction is moving along on the new Space 220 restaurant at Epcot. While the opening date has not been announced at this time the structure is taking shape. As part of an addition to the Mission to Mars area, the new dining experience will reside between Mission Space and Test Track.

The photos show progress, but it is still too early to tell exactly what the exterior of the building will look like in the space. We do know that with over 350 seats planned for the location it will be much more spacious than a cramped command module.

Construction Continues on the Space 220 Restaurant at Epcot

The entire dining experience will surely be out of this world. From the reported blast off in the elevator to the proposed spaceship dining room, diners may feel like astronauts.  This restaurant will offer sweeping views of the galaxy with a 250-foot long screen stretched through the dining room allowing us all to dine in the vastness of outer space while keeping our feet safely on Earth.

The concept for the restaurant is from Patina Group. The same group who handles operations for Epcot and Disney Springs restaurant favorites Via Napoli, Tutto Italia, The Edison, Morimoto Asia, and Maria & Enzo’s Ristorante. With the fantastic theming of the existing restaurants at the Walt Disney World resort, we can only anticipate Space 220 will be like nothing we have ever experienced.

Construction Continues on the Space 220 Restaurant at Epcot

Whether you are waiting for a seat on the space shuttle or just wanting to experience space without having to do so much training, Space 220 will have you practicing your best“10-4 Houston”!

Stay tuned, we will be posting updates as they become available.

The 2019 Epcot International Festival of the Arts, which runs from January 18 – February 25, 2019, will be filled with lots of art, entertainment, and food! This yearly celebration of the culinary, visual, and performing arts features activities for the entire family.  These include food studios, interactive workshops, the Disney on Broadway concert series, and lots of art galleries.

Speaking of galleries, one of our favorite Her Universe designers, Ashley Taylor, will be debuting four new prints at the WonderGround Gallery Tent, and they look amazing!  She will also be available to meet and sign artwork at the Epcot International Festival of the Arts. Mark your calendars now so you don’t miss out!

Ashley Taylor Signing Dates

Ashley Taylor has always loved art, but after a college professor made her doubt her skills she thought that part of her life was done.  But then she began working at Walt Disney World®, and her passion for design was reignited. She had the opportunity to present an idea to the Disney Creative Forum and was awarded a contract for her artistic skills.  She now creates artwork for the Disney Parks Blog, Disney Parks Merchandise, HerUniverse, and the WonderGround Gallery.  Check out these fantastic new pieces she has designed for this year’s Festival!

Happy Thoughts and Pixie Dust

We’re off to Neverland with this first piece! All of your favorite characters – from Tink to Peter and the hardest working babysitter dog in history, Nana – are here!

Chasing Midnight

As a little girl, this was always my favorite story, and I dreamed of wearing a dress like this one day. This moment on the stairs is where Cinderella’s real life is returning, but what happens after midnight is where the story lives on forever!

They Can’t Order Me to Stop Dreaming

Sulley Premium Popcorn Bucket Spotted at Animal Kingdom

Sulley Premium Popcorn Bucket

Sulley Premium Popcorn Bucket Spotted at Animal Kingdom

Last year during Pixar Fest many of us fell in love with the adorable Sully Premium Popcorn Bucket! Now the fan favorite bucket has popped up at Walt Disney World! We spotted it at the Feeding Ground Popcorn Cart in Animal Kingdom, and it’s just as cute as you’d imagine!

Sulley Premium Popcorn Bucket Spotted at Animal Kingdom

The Sulley Premium Popcorn Bucket comes filled with delicious Disney popcorn, for just $14.99. He’s a large molded figure bucket, which is fun to not only enjoy popcorn from, but to keep as a novelty decoration once you return home. Novelty food souvenirs have always been a personal favorite of mine, now we just need the Mike Wazowski Sipper Cup to make an appearance!

Sulley Premium Popcorn Bucket Spotted at Animal Kingdom

The back opens up for the popcorn, and closes tightly to keep your yummy popcorn safe. The carrying strap says “Monsters, INC” and has a graphic that features many of the stylized doors from the movie credits.

Currently Sulley has only been spotted at select locations throughout the Animal Kingdom Park, so if you’re looking to catch this monster popcorn bucket, that is where I would look!

Will you be adding the Sulley Premium Popcorn Bucket to your Disney Parks novelty souvenirs collection? I know I’m grabbing it for my collection!
