The Spirit of the Caribbean is in Every Corner of the New Centertown Market at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

The re-imagined Old Port Royale debuts at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort this Fall! When it reopens, guests are invited to embark on a Caribbean-inspired vacation with new areas to meet, dine, and relax. The newly expanded Centertown Market will be one of the highlights of Old Port Royale. Once open, the indoor street market-style quick service restaurant will feature the vibrant colors and details from the Caribbean.

Popular festivals held in the Caribbean islands were the inspiration behind the colorful, hand-painted mural found at the heart of Centertown Market. Disney Parks Blog recently caught up with some of these Imagineers as they were putting the finishing touches on bringing this mural to life. Check out some of the photos:

These murals are typical of what one would find in a local marketplace across the Caribbean. The mural displays a street parade complete with music, dancing, and lavish costumes made from feathers and colorful hand cut fringed crepe paper.

Not to be left out, the all-new Sebastian’s Bistro was also designed with the bright colors of the Caribbean in mind. Details include a screen of hand-painted fishing floats at the entrance to the restaurant.

Rare Donald Duck Sketch Sold at Auction for Almost $12,000

Imagine owning a sketch drawn and signed by Walt Disney himself. Well now someone can! A rare Donald Duck sketch sold at auction last month for quite the sum!

This pencil drawing, signed by Disney, was sold by Nate D. Sanders Auctions in Los Angeles. The bidders are unknown, but the amount they paid, $11,949, is not!

The drawing is not dated, but it features Donald Duck as he was originally introduced in the 1930’s. Mickey’s pal is wearing his signature sailor hat. The sketch, measuring 13×17 has been matted and framed. Both Disney’s block-style signature and the sketch itself were authenticated.

“It’s rare to find a Donald Duck illustration hand drawn and signed by Walt Disney himself,” said Nate D. Sanders auction manager Michael Kirk. “Disney famously delegated almost all animation work to his team of talented animators, making this piece very unique and collectable.”

Terralina Crafted Italian is one of Disney Springs’ newest restaurants. Even though it has only been open for a few months, it has quickly become a favorite for guests visiting Walt Disney World. Now, Terralina is inviting their fans to learn how to make some delicious pasta at home!

Terralina Crafted Italian will be hosting a Pasta Making Class on Saturday, September 15 at 12 to 2 pm. On hand will be Executive Chef, Justin Plank, demonstrating how to make fresh pasta at home with a few simple ingredients. E-ZPass Can Be Used For Almost All Tolls In Central Florida

Good news to those with an E-ZPass! The Central Florida Expressway Authority and the E-ZPass Group have FINALLY come to an agreement and effective September 1, 2018, motorists who have an E-ZPass transponder will be able to use it for nearly all toll roads in Central Florida!

“Orlando is the most visited destination in the United States, so whether traveling here for business or pleasure, we want our visitors to have the same travel experience that local residents enjoy year-round,” said Laura Kelley, Executive Director of CFX. “The launch of our partnership with E-ZPass makes driving in Orlando a safe, convenient choice for drivers.”

These tolls roads include all or parts of State Roads 408, 414, 417, 429, 451 and 528 (the 417 [The Greeneway] and 528 [The Beachline, previously The Beeline] are the two road most often used between Orlando International Airport and Walt Disney World). The roads the E-ZPAss will not work on are roads operated by Florida’s Turnpike Enterprises (part of the Florida Department of Transportation [FDOT]), such as Florida’s Turnpike (S.R. 91).

Disney Has Plans To Purchase Lighthouse Point in the Bahamas

Disney has been interested in a 700-acre piece of land in the Bahamas called Lighthouse Point. Lighthouse Point is a privately owned island where Disney hopes to develop a new cruise port. If successful, Disney Cruise Line would supply 120 jobs and other employment opportunities for the area.

Residents have been strongly opposing this idea on the southern tip of the island Eleuthera in the Bahamas. The residents hope to keep the piece of land untouched and in pristine condition, and instead recommends Disney to share the existing port at Princess Cay, Eleuthera and for the country to invest in more diverse models for development.

Eyewitness News understands that meetings between all stakeholders are planned for this week with the BCCEC on the development.
