It has been 12 years since fans of the “Princess Diaries” movies and books saw “Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.” We have all longed for a third movie, but did not seem within reach, considering Anne Hathaway’s booming career keeping her very busy, and now having a baby on the way!
However, we have heard some news all of us fans have been dying to hear! Director of both “Princess Diaries” films Gary Marshall told People Magazine that a couple of weeks ago he met with Anne Hathaway and they very much want to make a third film, but set in Manhattan (the books by Meg Cabot are set in Manhattan, whereas the first film was in San Francisco, the second set in fictional locale Genovia).
Hathaway and Marshall are on board and wanting to do a third film after Hathaway has her baby, yet the film has yet to be officially greenlit by Disney. There was no specific word on if Julie Andrews or Chris Pine would return, but I would think Andrews would since she has a long relationship with Disney, and has said how much she has enjoyed working on the “Princess Diaries” films in multiple interviews. Pine is of course a very busy actor at the moment, and all that’s been heard is that Marshall told People “Maybe,” but seemed skeptical because of his schedule.
I am excited to hear more about this potential project, to say the very least, and watch the continued adventures of Princess Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi! You can read the People exclusive here.
