Take advantage of the Disney Dining Plan with these helpful tips

scifi

Many people who travel to Walt Disney World take advantage of the Disney Dining Plan (DDP).  Disney dining plans are options available exclusively to Guests of select Walt Disney World Resort hotels with Magic Your Way Vacation Packages.  You can choose from quick service dining plan, dining plan, deluxe dining plan, premium package and platinum package.  Once you decide which dining plan is best for your party, here are a few other things to consider:

  1. Kids under age three eat for free at buffets or off of a parent’s plate.
  2. When making reservations, give the exact number of your party even if some are under age 3 and will eat for free or if they are infants and won’t eat at all.  Disney needs to count all people, not just eaters, in the restaurant for fire code capacity.
  3. Tip is not included in Disney Dining Plan, so bring extra cash for a tip. We like using Disney Gift Cards for our tips. A little bit easier than carrying cash.
  4. Alcohol purchases are not included in the plan, so if you want to drink, bring extra money or a credit card for these purchases.
  5. Consider making reservations at a restaurant that will give you special seating for Fantasmic at Hollywood Studios or Candlelight Processional (Christmas time) at Epcot.
  6. Consider making early breakfast reservations prior to the park opening.  This will give your family a great opportunity to have your picture made with the park icons (Cinderella Castle, Tree of Life, Spaceship Earth or Sorcerer’s Hat) without as many other people in the background!  You can also get great shots of other attractions and scenery without people clutter.
  7. Plan for dinner at the Fort Wilderness instead of lunch.  Then you can stay after for the Sing A Long with Chip ‘N Dale and outdoor movie!
  8. Use Your Snack Credits. Most people forget to use them throughout the week. Chip listed out a ton of snack items you must try on his 100 Disney Foods to eat before you die challenge.
  9. Remember you can always call or go online and change your Advanced Dining Reservations. Most times even a few hours before you eat!
  10. With all the great food you’re gonna eat be sure to leave room for dessert!

Well there you have it, some great tips to go along with your Disney Dining Plan. The biggest one I think is the tipping. Most new people don’t realize they will need money for tips till that first receipt comes in, so plan to have some money onhand for those hard-working Disney Cast Members!

Celebrating Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend with New Vinylmation and Dooney & Bourke Bags

Soon, thousands of fans will be cheering for those participating in the 20th Anniversary Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend presented by Cigna on January 10-13, 2013. There will be a variety of 20th Anniversary merchandise items available during the weekend.

Vinylmation is no stranger to the Marathon Weekend. This year, Disney artist Maria Clapsis designed one 3-inch figure that resembles Mickey Mouse in running attire. The figure has a space where a participant can write in her or his finishing time. The things I loved the most, however, are the new mini-medals for the Full Marathon, Half Marathon and Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge that can be added to the figure. Each medal is sold separately from the figure.

Walt Disney Studios Seeks An Emergency Stay of Judge’s Order on 2D To 3D Movie Conversions

walt disney studios

The Walt Disney Studios have asked a federal judge to block a bankruptcy court ruling that would allow the sale of patents related to 3-D movies.  Disney is fearful that a decision could mean that it will not have the ability to convert 2D movies 3D without fear of being sued.

Disney’s rights to use the technology to convert traditional films into three-dimensional movies will be harmed, the company said in its appeal in U.S. District Court in Wilmington, Delaware.  The dispute involves the company left in bankruptcy by the failure of Digital Domain Media Group Inc., the provider of special effects for the movies “Transformers” and “Titanic.” That company, known as DDMG Estate, held an auction for the patents last month.

Disney claims it has the right to use the technology because of agreements it signed with the original patent holder. Those agreements are related to movies including “Alice in Wonderland.”, G-Force and Tron Legacy.  Disney is asking the federal district court to hold a telephone hearing  so it can try to persuade a judge to temporarily prevent Digitial Domain Media Group Inc. from closing the sale.

A first look at Pixar’s new short BLUE UMBRELLA, which will be released along with MONSTERS UNIVERSITY.

It is just another evening commute until the rain starts to fall, and the city comes alive to the sound of dripping rain pipes, whistling awnings and gurgling gutters.  And in the midst, two umbrellas—one blue, one not—fall eternally in love.

From Pixar Animation Studios, director Saschka Unseld and producer Marc Greenberg, “The Blue Umbrella” opens in theaters on June 21, 2013, in front of “Monsters University.”

Should you visit Downtown Disney?

dq

When visiting Walt Disney World, it’s not hard to get caught up in the excitement of the parks, rides, and attractions. When you’re on Disney property, you might feel like you’re “missing out” on what’s going on inside one of the parks if you’re not in them. You can’t help but think “I could be on Space Mountain right now!” or “I wonder if there’s a lot of people watching Illuminations tonight?” Maybe you feel guilty for leisurely strolling the shops or grabbing a bite to eat at Downtown Disney, but the days of feeling guilty are over!

I love Downtown Disney. I find it’s a great place to go to escape the chaotic atmosphere that can sometimes be present in the parks. It’s also free! I like to visit Downtown Disney on my travel days, so I don’t have to worry about wasting half of a ticket day. It’s also a great way bookend to a vacation — a great place to start to prep for the parks, and a great place to end your trip and purchase last-minute souvenirs.

Are you on the fence about whether or not you want to make the trip downtown and explore? Here are some of my favorite places you’ll find at Downtown Disney that just might convince you:

Taking the Disney Guest Experience to the Next Level by adding My Magic+

fp

Disney officially releases all new details on the My Magic+ system on their blog today. This should be interesting to see how they are able to roll out this new service.  Here is the article from Disney Parks Blog.

At Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, we continually push the boundaries of creativity and innovation to deliver the best possible experience for our guests. We’re always looking for ways to take what we do and do it even better. Over the past few years, we’ve devoted considerable time and resources to create a more immersive, more seamless and more personal experience for each and every guest who spends time with us. I know there’s been significant speculation about these efforts among our fans, so we’re pleased to give you a glimpse into the work we are doing to take the entire Disney guest experience to the next level.

Some of these initiatives are more apparent and can already be seen by our guests – like our interactive queues at Walt Disney World Resort and the Enchanted Art on our cruise ships – while others are more behind-the-scenes and are focused on “how” visitors plan, access and enjoy their experiences with us. Over the next several months, we’ll be rolling out a collection of tools at the Walt Disney World Resort called MyMagic+ that will give guests more opportunities to customize and personalize their entire visit.

Misery Loves Company on an all new episode of Pretty Little Liars on ABC Family

TROIAN BELLISARIO

Executive Producer I. Marlene King Goes Behind the Lens to Make Her Directorial Debut

Surprises abound for Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer, in “Misery Loves Company,” an all new episode of ABC Family’s hit original series “Pretty Little Liars,” airing Tuesday, January 22nd (8:00 – 9:00 PM ET/PT).

Aria is down for the count when sidelined by the flu, so Hanna and Emily are on their own to follow up on a new clue. Surprisingly, Meredith steps up to help take care of Aria while her father is away, but when it starts to look like Meredith may have ulterior motives to her nursing Aria back to health, Hanna and Emily turn their attention towards saving their friend. Is Meredith just trying to start anew with Aria and be her number one fan, or is there reason for her friends to be concerned?

Meredith taking care of Aria? sounds weird i can’t imagine the  two of them getting along but it will make for a great show I’m sure! What do you expect to come out of this? I have a hard time believing this will all end smoothly.

Meanwhile, Spencer takes a break from all the sleuthing to surprise Toby for their anniversary. I can’t wait to see the anniversary play out especially since we know about Toby now.. When i spoke to Marlene she said that we will finally see why Toby is part of the A team and i personally can’t wait to find out!

The Power of Persuasion: Tips for Making Your Next Disney World Trip Happen!

bw

If you are anything like me, you are probably always planning your next trip to Disney World.  Seriously, from the time I set foot in the parks, I am thinking about coming back for my next trip.  That is because we have what is called a Disney Addiction.  Now I am no doctor, but when it comes to what ails ya, I will always say that a little Disney does the body good!  That is why I have perfected the art of persuasion.

From the time I was a little girl, I had a gift of dropping hints, nicely nudging, and carefully coercing.  The best part is that the art of persuading this way is that you come of looking innocent as you Jedi mind trick your loved ones!  As this scheme becomes “their idea” you sit back and reap the rewards!  When it comes to convincing my friends and family that we should go to Disney World (yes, again) well, that’s no different.

Today I am going to share with you the tools of the trade for tricking…I mean talking (hehehehe!)…your family/friends into going to Disney World.  So,  what are we waiting for, let’s get into our covert mission of convincing your family that a Disney Trip is in the books for 2013 (and beyond….cue MANIACAL LAUGH!).

2013 Disney Dining Plan Details Released

prime

In 2013 Disney has some new changes to the Disney Dining Plan. There are a few changes the biggest one is an increase in the price. When you are comparing restaurants it is still early and many restaurants will be missing from the list. I find that if your favorite restaurant isn’t on the list right now it will show up as soon as they get the contract signed.

Chip’s Tips: While you are at the parks it never hurts to ask. We found last year San Angel Inn wasn’t on the DDP but when we walked up and asked they said they would take it no problem. So it never hurts to go up and ask them.

Here are the changes from last year to this year:

THE PLAN-2012 VS. 2013

The Plan details for each Dining Plan (Quick Service, Basic and Deluxe) remain the same.  There is an across the board price increase:

  • Quick Service- $34.99 adult/$11.99 child in 2012, now $37.58 adult/$14.32 child in 2013
  • Basic-$51.54 adult/$15.02 child in 2012, now $55.59 adult/$17.16 child in 2013
  • Deluxe-$$85.52 adult/$23.79 child in 2012, now $99.97 adult/$26.84 child in 2013

Several notes are added to the dining plan rules for 2013.  They are as follows:
