5 New Disney Couture Ear Hats Kick Off ‘Year of the Ear’ at Disney Parks

ltm

Over the holidays, we shared our first updates on what to expect with “Limited Time Magic” at the Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, including the announcement that 2013 is the “Year of the Ear” at both parks. Today, there’s more to share – a first look at January’s limited release Disney Couture Ear Hats.

Every month, Disney Parks will offer new ear hats to add to your collection as part of “Limited Time Magic.” January will start with five new Ear Hats. The hats are currently available at a variety of locations at Disney Parks. We found them this morning at World of Disney in Downtown Disney Marketplace. We  would also suggest checking  the big merchandise locations in the Parks as well.

Are you an ear collector? Which one is your favorite?  I am a collector and I am having a hard deciding so your input will be helpful.

Star Wars Creator George Lucas and Mellody Hobson Get Engaged

George Lucas and Mellody Hobson

Congratulations to “Star Wars” creator George Lucas for proposing to his girlfriend since 2007 Mellody Hobson. The 68-year-old director/Master Jedi will be wedding the 43-year-old investment firm president Hobson who also serves as chairman of DreamWorks Animation and is a financial contributor to ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

Lucas helped to launch the modern blockbuster age with his “Star Wars” sagas and “Indiana Jones” adventures. The original “Star Wars” still stands as the No. 2 film in terms of tickets sold domestically, behind only “Gone with the Wind.”

Lucas has three children: Amanda, Katie and Jett. He was previously married to film editor Marcia Lucas from 1969 to 1983.

Disney completed its acquisition of Lucasfilm and the “Star Wars” franchise from Lucas for $4.06 billion in cash and stock last month.

No other details have been given by Lucasfilm at press time. Congratulations from all of us from the Disney fan community!

New Concept Art for Upcoming Disney Pixar Movies

pixarfuture4

Pixar has released new concept art for projects that they plan on releasing in 2014 and beyond.

First up is a movie we have all been waiting for and that is “Monsters University”.

Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. “Monsters University” unlocks the
door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.

Screaming with laughter and fun, “Monsters University” is directed by Dan Scanlon (“Cars,” “Mater and the Ghostlight,” “Tracy”) and produced by Kori Rae (“Up,” “The Incredibles,” “Monsters, Inc.”). The film opens in
U.S. theaters on June 21, 2013, and will be shown in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.

Also, not sure if you caught it during the Rose Bowl but if you missed the “Imagine” commercial’s debut for Monsters University here it is:

Why Do the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse?

That is a question I get when helping friends plan their agenda at Magic Kingdom.  Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse is not a thrill ride and involves climbing a lot of steps (116 to be exact).  So what’s the attraction? It’s a replica of the treehouse the Robinson Family built upon being shipwrecked on an island. The story is depicted in Disney‘s 1960 classic, The Swiss Family Robinson. Fact is, I’m partial to Swiss Family Robinson and it’s a must-do on my personal touring plan at Magic Kingdom.

Here are my Top 5 reasons YOU should “swing” by the Treehouse.

    1. It’s Cool.  Not just to look at, but you are shaded by a leaf and moss canopy on your way through.  It’s also right next to the sprayground outside the Jungle Cruise. Hint, Hint!
    2. It’s Disney Imagineering at It’s Best.  Everything looks as if it were salvaged from the shipwreck or created from island resources.  In reality, only the moss is real at this attraction.
    3. It’s a Great Distraction.  When waiting for your Jungle Cruise or Pirates of the Caribbean FASTPASS time to arrive, head through this attraction.  There are rarely any lines. You also get a birds-eye view of the Jungle Cruise to complete the feeling of being shipwrecked.
    4. It’s Fun to Imagine.  The attraction looks so real, right down to the working water pulley system.  The table is set, beds made and even an organ. It’s not difficult to imagine living in a Treehouse.  After walking around Magic Kingdom all day, the hammocks look pretty tempting!
    5. It’s a Classic.  Not just the movie (which I recommend seeing before you tour through the Treehouse), but the attraction.  It was in Adventureland when Magic Kingdom opened in 1971.  Take 15 minutes to appreciate Treehouse and the Disney Magic that went into its creation.

MickeyMom is a Mom to 2, and thinks Disney should let her stay in the Treehouse overnight.

Disney World Trip Brings Joy To Farmington Baby And Family

addilyn davis

Thanks to the help from family and friends, 16-month-old Addilyn Davis was able to meet her favorite character, Mickey Mouse, at The Walt Disney World Resort in May.

Born in August of 2011 Addilyn was diagnosed in February with Krabbe disease, a genetic disorder of the central nervous system.  Unfortunately there is no cure of treatment for the disease, so Addilyn faces a shortened life.

Eighteen family members, made the trip with Addilyn, including her parents Jamie and Kyle Davis.  The trip to Disney was made while Addilyn still had her sight and could feed from a bottle.

“My family wanted to be there,” Jamie said, voicing her gratitude. “It meant so much that our community came together for our baby girl, Kyle and I. There was nothing that could compare to watching her meet Mickey.”

Krabbe disease affects one out of every 100,000 people in the United States. It was named after the doctor who discovered it in the early 1900s.

Jamie is devoted to raising awareness of Krabbe disease. In addition to passing out brochures at local parades, a walk in Addilyn’s honor is being planned for early 2013.  Their family’s experiences are written about on Facebook under “Addilyn’s Journey of Hope.”

Davis also wants to see genetic testing for the disease at birth. New York is the only state that automatically tests for it now, she said.

Disneyland Paris Train Accident Injures Four

disneylandparis

Four guests were treated for minor injuries after a wagon broke off from a steam engine ride at Disneyland Paris on Thursday.

The four guests included a pregnant woman and 13-year old girl.  They were taken to hospital after the accident on the five-wagon Disneyland Railroad, a police source said. The accident occurred after a bolt snapped between the first and second wagons of the train, sending the engine and one wagon ahead of the others as they approached the terminal The three rear wagons then struck the first section when it stopped at the end of the line.

About 40 guests were in the train at the time of the accident. A spokesman for the Euro Disney Company, which operates the park, said the train ride was closed on Thursday and that the incident was minor.  The spokesman also said those injured were out of the hospital and had returned home or continued their stay at Disneyland Paris.

Disneyland Paris had just celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2012, in which it saw a record 16 million visitors.

Hand Grenades Found at Downtown Disney

DowntownDIsney

Last night, Wednesday January 2nd, hand grenades were found at 1780 Buena Vista Drive, otherwise known as Downtown Disney. A Walt Disney World janitor found the three hand grenades in a parking lot only open to employees.

The hand grenades posed no threat to anyone as they were hollowed out with nothing inside. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office were on the scene and the bomb squad removed the grenades around 10pm last night. Deputies will blow them up to be certain but Downtown Disney is operating normally.

“There was minimal disruption to guests,” Disney spokeswoman Kathleen Prihoda said.

With all the craziness we live in these days I wonder what someone was thinking to pull a prank like this? Assuming it was a prank. Tell me were you at Downtown Disney last night  and did you notice anything going on?

Disney DIY: Disney Trip Savings Jar

Disney Trip Savings Jar

Our family just confirmed our Walt Disney World travel dates for 2013, and we are so excited! The trip is several months away, though, so to help the time pass till we get back “home,” we have Disney crafts planned. The one I’m featuring today is both fun and functional, utilizes found items around the house, and creates a little cushion for the wallet when the trip finally arrives. Our Disney Trip Savings Jar!

Create a Disney Trip Savings Jar
Get the kids involved in this one! Look at the supplies list below. Write each item on a strip of paper and send the kids off on a scavenger hunt to collect them. Have lots of kids? Split them into teams. Have an only? Let him race the clock.

You will need:

  • A container – You probably want something transparent, so you can see the money adding up. Maybe recycle a spaghetti sauce jar & cut a slot in the lid, or use an old vase with a narrow neck (don’t want grabby fingers pulling coins back out). We chose a candy/miscellaneous jar we had with a snugly-sealing lid and a chalkboard strip on one side.
  • A hot glue gun with refills – If you don’t have one, grab some Scotch tape.
  • Decorations – Whatever sparks your creativity! Gather up some ribbon, jingle bells, Disney stickers, buttons, pompoms, chenille sticks, paint, glitter, sculpting clay, dried pasta, pebbles, duct tape, etc.
