Cider & Mino Make a Splash at The Seas in EPCOT! 🥬💙

There are two new adorable faces at The Sea Base Aquarium in EPCOT! After the previous manatee residents moved to a new home, Cider and Mino arrived as the latest guests in Disney’s manatee rehabilitation program. These gentle giants are vacationing at Walt Disney World, where visitors can see them lazily floating, munching on lettuce, and getting the care they need before being released back into the wild. Cider, a 3-to-4-year-old orphan, was lucky enough to be adopted by another manatee mom and is now a healthy 750 pounds! Her new tankmate, Mino, is a 2 ½-year-old weighing in at 470 pounds—but he still needs to pack on a few more pounds before he’s ready for life beyond EPCOT.

If you stop by, you might notice painted markings on their backs—Cider has a stripe, and Mino has an “M” to help Cast Members tell them apart. While they were a little shy at first, they quickly warmed up to their new environment, especially once lettuce started rolling in! The second-floor viewing area has a chalkboard with their latest updates, and friendly Cast Members are always happy to share fun facts about these incredibly important (and irresistibly cute) animals. Disney’s conservation efforts are part of a larger mission to protect Florida’s manatee population, which, despite improving numbers, remains a vulnerable species.

Disney’s conservation efforts are part of a larger mission to protect Florida’s manatee population, which, despite improving numbers, remains a vulnerable species. Manatees were once classified as endangered, and while conservation efforts have helped increase their numbers, they are still listed as threatened due to ongoing dangers like boat strikes, habitat loss, and pollution. Protected by federal and state laws, including the Marine Mammal Protection Act and the Endangered Species Act, these gentle creatures play a vital role in their ecosystems. Their behaviors even help scientists monitor water quality and habitat health.

With EPCOT’s manatee care program now focused on short-term rehabilitation, we’ll likely see many more manatees coming through The Seas in the future. But for now, Cider and Mino are the stars of the show! If you’re visiting EPCOT, don’t forget to swing by SeaBase Aquarium to catch a glimpse of these floating potatoes as they chomp, nap, and float their way into everyone’s hearts! 🥬🐮💙

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is one step closer to bringing the Tropical Americas expansion to life as the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) has officially approved the project’s permit. Dubbed “Project Ro,” the permit covers necessary infrastructure modifications for the transformation of DinoLand U.S.A. into an immersive new land inspired by the vibrant cultures and landscapes of Central and South America. Disney initially filed for approval last fall and, after addressing requests for additional details, the permit was officially marked as “active” as of February 6, 2025, with an expiration date set for 2030.

With groundwork already underway, Disney is making significant progress toward this massive overhaul. The first phase of DinoLand U.S.A.’s closure began on January 12, affecting beloved attractions like Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, Fossil Fuel Games, and TriceraTop Spin. More recently, Disney filed an additional permit with the SFWMD for a backstage contractor lot to aid construction efforts, while several Notices of Commencement confirm that both demolition and new construction are in motion. The remainder of DinoLand, including the DINOSAUR attraction, is set to remain operational for about another year before closing for reimagining.

The Heroes Ticket will be available to eligible California firefighters as well as eligible Los Angeles-based law enforcement personnel and emergency medical technicians who helped combat the LA fires in January 2025. The Heroes Ticket will be valid from May 5 – August 7, 2025, Mondays through Thursdays. A theme park reservation will be required and is subject to availability.

More detailed information, including eligibility and verification requirements, and how to register for this offer, will be communicated directly to qualifying fire, police and sheriff’s departments in April.

  • Disney VoluntEARS hosted donation drives to collect more than 200,000 essential items for impacted individuals and families.
  • A new Disney LA Strong t-shirt is available for purchase now on DisneyStore.com as a symbol of community support, and a reminder that together we have the strength to rebuild and heal. For each t-shirt sold in the U.S. through December 31, 2025, Disney will donate $25 to the American Red Cross to help people affected by the fires in California during 2025.

Baby Bakso Update from Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Disney’s Animal Kingdom has been sharing an unprecedented look into the life of their newest resident, a Sumatran tiger cub named Bakso. Through weekly “Tiger Tuesday TV” updates, viewers have witnessed Bakso’s incredible journey from his first neonatal exam to his grand debut on the Maharajah Jungle Trek. Join us for the recaps of Bakso’s milestones and celebrate his successful integration into the park’s habitat!

Early Days and First Check-Up:

Baby Bakso

Bakso, whose name is inspired by the Indonesian word for meatball, entered the world a curious and active cub. His first veterinary check-up revealed bright amber eyes, sharp baby teeth, and quick reflexes, assuring the animal care team of his healthy development. While Bakso was briefly away for his exam, his mother, Sohni, enjoyed some enrichment activities, highlighting the careful attention to both mother and cub.

Exploring His World:

As Bakso grew, he began exploring his backstage “playroom,” encountering new experiences like scent enrichment with lemongrass. This introduction to new smells was crucial for his sensory development and overall well-being. He also celebrated milestones like turning three months old, marking significant progress in his young life.

Solid Foods and Outdoor Adventures:

A major milestone arrived when Bakso ate his first solid food – a meatball! This crucial step in his development signaled the beginning of weaning and prepared him for the “big cat habitat.” His diet, carefully curated by the Animal Nutrition Center, ensures he receives the necessary nutrients for his growth. Bakso also ventured into the outside yard of his backstage habitat, practicing essential tiger skills like jumping, rolling, and pouncing. This “pre-school” for cubs helped him hone the skills he’d need for his future home.

Swimming Lessons and Independence:

Bakso’s development continued with preparations for swimming, a critical skill for his eventual debut on the Maharajah Jungle Trek. Keepers introduced him to the pool area, gradually increasing the water level to acclimate him. Throughout these new experiences, Sohni remained a constant presence, offering guidance and reassurance. Bakso also continued to grow more independent, exploring his backstage habitat with increasing confidence, though always returning to his mother’s comforting presence. He enjoyed playing in hay piles, practicing his pouncing and camouflage skills, and engaging with various enrichment items.

Training and Growing Confidence:

Baby Bakso

Bakso’s training with his keepers has been essential for his development. Using positive reinforcement, the team is preparing him for routine care, including voluntary participation in medical exams. While still hesitant about some tasks, Bakso’s trust in his keepers is evident. He’s also becoming more confident in his abilities, though swimming and other significant steps will happen at his own pace.

The Big Day: Maharajah Jungle Trek Debut:

After months of preparation and milestones, Bakso’s big day finally arrived! He made his debut on the Maharajah Jungle Trek alongside his mother, Sohni. This momentous occasion marked the culmination of the dedicated work of the animal care experts and celebrated Bakso’s growth from a tiny cub to a confident young tiger. His presence serves as a beacon of hope for the endangered Sumatran tiger species, representing the vital conservation efforts of Disney’s Animal Kingdom and its partners. Bakso’s journey is a testament to the power of care, patience, and the magic of witnessing nature unfold.
