The permit, which lists facility demolition, general construction, electrical work, and area development, signals that big changes are on the horizon. Long-time Disney partner Whiting-Turner will oversee the project, which is expected to kick off immediately after the closure of It’s Tough to be a Bug! on March 17, 2025.
Since opening with Animal Kingdom in 1998, It’s Tough to be a Bug! has taken guests on a wild, bug-sized adventure with Flik and the gang from A Bug’s Life, using 3D visuals, animatronics, and surprising in-theater effects. However, as part of Disney’s broader efforts to introduce more Zootopia into the park, this immersive experience will soon be replaced with the all-new 4D show, Zootopia: Better Zoogether!, set to debut in winter 2025.

The new attraction will bring Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde, and other beloved characters to the Tree of Life Theater for an adventure that promises to be both heartwarming and action-packed. With Disney now taking official steps to begin demolition and reconstruction, it won’t be long before guests can step into the vibrant world of Zootopia.
Stay tuned as we follow the transformation of this iconic theater and count down the days until Zootopia: Better Zoogether! opens its doors! Will you be making one last visit to It’s Tough to be a Bug! before it closes?
