Top 10 Disneyland Rides to Ride at Night

disneyland night rides
disneyland night rides

disneyland night rides

Disneyland is a truly magical place, no matter what time of day it is, but the original Magic Kingdom becomes even more magical after dark. The music is louder, the scents are more fragrant, especially those of the turkey legs, the shimmering lights are brighter, and the tasty treats taste better. Many of the rides are more magical at night, too. So, here are ten Disneyland rides that you should definitely check out at night on your next trip!

  • Jungle Cruise – Take advantage of the unique opportunity to cruise through the great jungles of the world after dark. There isn’t a whole lot of artificial light here, like on other rides, most of it comes from the boats themselves, and this makes the attraction seem more authentic. It really adds to the attraction since it is, honestly, not entirely authentic during the day. You may also end up getting to hear a whole new, more adult, script if there aren’t many kids in the boat.
  • Dumbo – Soar high with Dumbo after dark and you’ll be in for a treat. The ride area itself is incredible, the fountains which are beautiful during the day are now lit up in varying colors. This attraction also allows for riders to take in views of the beautiful Fantasyland from new heights.
  • Astro Orbitor – Much like Dumbo, Astro Orbitor allows riders to take in amazing views from new heights. Enjoy your flight as you are surrounded by the shimmering lights of Tomorrowland, Main Street U.S.A. and Sleeping Beauty Castle!
  • Haunted Mansion – I know, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to include a ride that takes place complete inside, but there’s a reason behind this choice. Haunted Mansion is already slightly scary in the day time, after all it is haunted, but there is just something about walking into a “haunted” house after dark that makes it even scarier.
  • Splash Mountain – Most of Splash Mountain takes place inside, however there are quite a few out door portions, including the climax of the ride – the big drop. As you float by the homes of Br’er Fox and Br’er Bear be sure to take in the amazing views of the rest of the park. The drop is even more amazing or even more terrifying, in a good way, after dark as well!
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad – Board the runaway mine train for the wildest ride in the wilderness. If you’re a roller coaster fan, and you like this ride during the day, be sure to check it out after dark for a faster and scarier experience. The mountain all light up at night is also quite beautiful.
  • King Arthur Carrousel – Carousels are almost always better at night – the music seems louder and the ride itself seems faster. It also provides riders with the unique opportunity to take in the shimmering lights of Fantasyland as they whiz by.
  • Storybook Land Canal Boats – If you like this attraction during the day you’ll love it at night. Sail through the lands of Aladdin, Anna and Elsa, Cinderella and their friends, just like in the day time, but now everything is beautifully light up. It is truly breathtaking.
  • It’s a Small World – Most of this attraction takes place inside, but the short time that you are outside is memorable. This is especially true during the winter holidays when the ride is lit up with thousands of sparkling multicolored lights.
  • Matterhorn Bobsleds – Much like Big Thunder Mountain, the Matterhorn has a higher thrill factor at night – the ride seems faster and the yeti is even scarier.

What’s your favorite Disneyland ride to ride at night? Let us know in the comments!

My name is Miriya Whitaker, I am a travel agent with World of Magic Travel, a writer for Chip and Co and Disney Addicts, and I love to experience Disneyland after dark! Universal Orlando employee suing for being fired over stolen gun from his car

Dean Kumanchik has worked at Universal Orlando for more than 20 years earning 30 dollars an hour as a ride technician, recently he had his own gun stolen out of his car and was subsequently fired (the day before Christmas).

Kumanchik has a concealed weapon license and according to Florida state law you are allowed to keep a gun locked in your car when you hold this license. Universal is claiming since they have a learning center on their property this is a workplace violation.

He filed his lawsuit with the Orange County Circuit Court on Thursday; the lawsuit says that Universal Orlando violates the 8 year law allowing weapon holders to store gun in locked cars while at work.

Kumanchik says he didn’t consider himself on company property while parked in the garage;

“My interpretation of that policy would be that if I take my ID badge and go through the security gate and they swipe it, now I consider myself on company property,”

Universal spokesman said they will not comment on pending litigation.

What do you think? Should Kumanchik have been fired?

What’s in a name? Well, if it is the name you’re giving to your child there is a lot riding on your choice. The name that you choose will stay with your child for the rest of your life. Therefore it is important to pick a name that won’t embarrass your child later in life. Comcast, the parent company to Universal Orlando Resorts has confirmed the purchase of 475 acre’s near the theme parks.

Universal

Universal Orlando

Universal Orlando fans we’ve all heard the rumors and it’s finally confirmed. According to the Orlando Business Journal, Comcast, which is now the parent company of Universal Orlando Resort & Theme parks has confirmed the purchase of 475 acres of land that’s adjacent to Universal Orlando theme parks costing them $130 million dollars.

With the purchase of the 475 acre’s near really gives Universal a better chance at building new attractions to compete with Disney. Universal has been limited to what they currently have for many years and look at all the amazing attractions they’ve brought to us including my favorite, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I’m hoping with this new area we’ll see a new themed land to add to the themes we know and love now.

I would love to hear what you think they will do with this new area or maybe what you hope they will do. The land is large enough for many ideas. Maybe a new hotel? New themed lands? A third theme park? Maybe a Nintendo World land? Backstage or operation space? Who knows, but I can’t wait!!

A Modern Vision of the Seven Dwarfs Slideshow

seven dwarfs
seven dwarfs

seven dwarfs

We have an exciting bonus for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to share with you! Disney has had a few of their very own artists create their own modern interpretations of the Seven Dwarfs to share with the lovers of this animated classic.

For generations, audiences around the globe have been enchanted by the timeless tales brought to life by the artists of Walt Disney Animation Studios. Since the debut of the very first feature-length animated film in 1937, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the visionary studio has generated some of the most beloved films of all time through masterful artistry, epic storytelling, and groundbreaking technology.

From the extraordinary team behind the success of Snow White emerged a group of animators who would become legends – Disney’s Nine Old Men. These prolific artists, including Frank Thomas, Marc Davis and Ollie Johnston, were the heart and hands behind the magic of Bambi, Sleeping Beauty, 101 Dalmatians, Pinocchio, Peter Pan, The Jungle Book, Alice in Wonderland and so many more.

After more than 90 years, this rich legacy of innovation and creativity lives on with every animator who passes through the hallowed halls of Walt Disney Animation Studios.

In celebration of the one that started it all, seven Disney artists from different generations have come together to share a modern look at the seven iconic characters who shared the journey of the original Disney Princess.

See this beautiful slideshow below:

BASHFUL by Benson Shum (Animator, Zootopia, Moana)
“I always wanted to be an animator and started to pursue that after high school! The Little Mermaid was one of the first movies that inspired me to become an animator. For Bashful, I looked at the original model sheets of the dwarfs to get inspired to see how they were drawn and created. I picked the background color to match Bashful’s personality.”

DOC by Andy Harkness (Art Director of Environments, Moana)
“When I was a freshman in college, Disney visited our school and showed us early clips of The Lion King and Pocahontas. I was hooked immediately. There was something about seeing the work in progress that sparked something in me. I created “Happy” using polymer clay. Then I photographed the sculpt and painted him in Photoshop. I found an image of him with a little guitar and thought that would make a charming prop for the design.”

DOPEY by Trent Correy (Character Animator, Zootopia, Moana)
“I was 17 years old and trying to find something to do after high school. I loved making live action films and also liked to draw, so animation seemed like a good fit! I just tried to have fun with Dopey and keep the drawing as wacky and energetic as his character.”

GRUMPY by Eric Goldberg (Supervising Animator, Moana)
“I loved creating flip books at age 6 and made Super 8 films at age 13, I’ve always had an interest in animation and filmmaking for as long as I can remember. Since he’s Grumpy, I wanted to tap into his “grumpiest” side, with strong underlighting and stylized color. This is, of course, before Snow white transformed him!”

HAPPY by Nara Youn (Animator, Zootopia, Moana)
“I always loved animation and was glued to the TV in admiration. There is one movie that made everything click for me and that movie was Monsters Inc. The animators gave so much character and story to such simple looking characters and I just fell in love with the craft. It was the movie that drew the bridge for me and made me think, ‘Wow, I really want to do this.’ For Happy, I used to draw on a Post-it note everyday for three years straight. Since then I have found it very comforting to work that way and have created more than a thousand tiny art pieces because of Post-its. It’s medium has become a signature of mine :)”

SLEEPY by Hyun-Min Lee (Animator, Zootopia, Moana)
“I think it was when I was about 4 and watched Robin Hood, which was the first Disney animated film I ever watched, that I first became aware of Disney Animation and its amazing legacy. I watched a lot of Disney features and shorts from then on, and even if I didn’t know what being an “animator” even was, I knew I wanted to do something related to the making of those films. I kept drawing and watching lots of animation, until finally I was able to realize my dream and became a Disney animator! I think picking “Sleepy” was a natural and fortunate choice for me, since I’m always the sleepy one around work! I think I identify with how hard Sleepy works on fulfilling his role no matter how tired he is. During important moments especially, he may be “sleepy,” but not “sleeping,” which I think is an important distinction!”

SNEEZY by Valentin Amador (Animator, Zootopia, Moana)
“According to my parents, when I was 4 they took me to see Fantasia and I was mesmerized by it. As early as I can remember I’ve always wanted to be a Disney animator. For Sneezy, I wanted to create a little piece of animation, but leaving it rough, no clean up lines or color, to show a bit of the process to the audience. I even left the in-betweening charts to show how a finished rough animation looks. Also, to bridge the old and the new, I animated it on a digital medium, but I used one of the original sneezes from the character in the film.”

Snow White and the Seven DwarfsA Modern Vision of the Seven Dwarfs Slideshow is available in Disney Digital HD and Blu-ray combo pack now!
