In a developing story we have learned the Disney Cruise Ship the Disney Fantasy skipped their port stop at Castaway Cay due to engine issues. The ship is sailing at a reduce speed of 17.2 knots instead of the normal 22 knots in order to make it back to Port Canaveral in time for their next sailing.

The fantasy is on the 6th day of a 7 day Eastern Caribbean cruise, which has already stopped at St Thomas, and Tortola. We are being told all staterooms were informed of the problem around lunchtime on the February 4th.  You can read a copy of the letter here. Disney is offering a discount on 3, 4, or 7 night cruises of 20% for cruises taken within 24 months. There is also $200 in on-board credits being returned to all guests.

Disney cruise line was not available for comment, but we are being told the February 6th Fantasy cruise should not be delayed.

Dress Up Your Disney Cruise Line Stateroom with Adorable Magnets

Mickey Magnet

Like many others I am in a cruise state of mind right now. Of course there is no cruise like the Disney Cruise Line, and Disney is all about fun! Many people love to decorate their windows when staying at Disney Resort Hotels, so why not have a little fun with your stateroom door on a Disney Cruise? GulfBreezeProduction on Etsy has just the right idea with their Stateroom door decorations.

These are made to fit the around the number signs on the stateroom doors of the Disney Cruise Line Ships. They are made with laminated heavy card stock, with sturdy magnets on the back to keep them in place. Best of all when you’re done cruising, these make the perfect souvenir for your home fridge. There’s many characters and themed Mickey designs to choose from, so check them out!

They also do custom orders too! Have you ever decorated your Stateroom Cruise door before?

Great Places to Catch the Game on Super Bowl Sunday at Walt Disney World

Super Bowl 2
Super Bowl 2

Super Bowl #2

Will you find yourself at Walt Disney World this weekend? Well, then you may be looking for a spot to watch the Super Bowl!   Manning vs. Newton will take place on Sunday, February 7th and there are a few great places to grab a beer (or 2) and some good food within Walt Disney World this Sunday!

ESPN Club:  Located at Disney’s Boardwalk, this is the obvious first choice for super sports fans who would like to catch the game on 100 TV screens with a LOT of other super sports fans! Walk-in is available, but get there early! Historically, people line up when doors open at 11am. VIP seating packages are currently sold out, but it cannot hurt to keep checking back for availability! This spot is sure to be very lively and energetic so get ready for some fun! Please note the arcade and retail shop are now closed.

Splitsville at Disney Springs: The game will be playing upstairs in the lounge with the volume turned up! You can make a reservation through your My Disney Experience App or call 407-WDW DINE and let them know you would like seating upstairs. There is no specific special going on, just normal seating with the game on the screens! This place is a ton of fun and hopefully you can bowl before the ‘Bowl’!

Pool Bars: All of the main pools at the Walt Disney World Resorts have a pool  bar and many of them have TVs above the bar! Get there early and grab a stool! The game will be playing. I have watched football from Hurricane Hannah’s at the Yacht and Beach Club and Banana Cabana Pool Bar at Caribbean Beach REsort so I know that it is a great, relaxing way to watch the game!

Rix Lounge Located in Coronado Springs, this lounge will have the game on at the bar. While there is no special package available, it is a cool place to watch the game. Families with children will be admitted until 9pm, after that, it is adults only! This is a little off the beaten path so it may be less crowded!

The most relaxing spot of all to watch the game may be from your beautiful Walt Disney World Resort hotel room! Stock up on some snacks and drinks and enjoy the game as a family from the peace and quiet of your room!

Hopefully you will find yourself a seat at one of these great locations on Sunday! if not, you may want to head to the parks as crowds will be low while everyone else is watching the game!

Another employee suing Walt Disney World

Another Walt Disney World employee is suing the company. She will be joining a growing list of employees, both past and present suing Walt Disney World. Helena Mobley filed her lawsuit in Orange County Circuit Court last week.

Mobley has been with Walt Disney World for almost 24 years, her file claims she has been looked over for promotions because she is married to a black man.  She has worked mostly as an administrative assistant in security.  She filed a discrimination complaint and was then told she could not work in the security division any longer, she moved to custodial administrative assistant. She is seeking damages and attorney’s fees.

Mobley went to the US Equal Opportunity Employment Commission because she feels she was more than qualified for the promotion in which she was overlooked for. US EOEC sent her a right to sue letter.

Mobley is the 8th employee, past and present, in the security unit to file a suit since 2011. 3 of those lawsuits were voluntarily dismissed by the plaintiffs, 1 won no monetary compensation but was told discrimination may have been in play, and one has lost her suit but has filed again.

Mobley and three other are pending, of those four lawsuits 3 are current employees.  Jerry Girley is representing all of the lawsuit, he says about Mobley’s suit (and change of position);

“ The security positions are highly coveted and high status positions within the company, conversely custodial and housekeeping are the least favored positions”

On Wednesday Disney said they have not yet been served and would respond in court.

10 Disneyland Mistakes You’ll Want to Avoid

disneyland mistakes 1
disneyland mistakes 1

disneyland mistakes

A Disney vacation of any type is a big undertaking and requires at least minimal planning. I’m sure that while you’re in the parks you’ve seen other guests that are clearly, at least to a Disney Addict, making a mistake. So, to ensure an enjoyable and magical Disneyland vacation, avoid these mistakes.

  • Not Wearing Comfortable ShoesComfortable shoes are a must! You will be doing a lot of walking and shoes that don’t fit right will end up giving you blisters before the day is out. So, put on your favorite, most comfortable shoes, whether they’re sneakers, sandals, flip flops, flats or heels to ensure happy feet.
  • Underestimating Size – This one ties in with not wearing comfortable shoes. While the Disneyland Resort is nowhere near as large as the Disney World Resort, and the two park entrances are directly across from each other, you will do a lot of walking. This past weekend my family and I spent the weekend at Disneyland – we had a relaxing weekend at the parks, we didn’t go all out and try to ride everything, and we even left the parks soon after dinner, but we still walked about 7 miles each day! Be prepared to walk A LOT!
  • Not Drinking Enough Water – Drinking enough water is always important, but it is especially so when you are outside for long periods of time and when you are doing a lot of walking. Making sure that you drink enough water will help you to be able to enjoy a longer day at the park – it will keep you hydrated which will help you to avoid headaches and crankiness.
  • Over/Under Dressing – For much of the year it can be pretty warm in Southern California, but there are some days where it can be cool or even rain. Proper clothing is important! During the fall and winter wearing layers and having a jacket can be greatly advantageous. It can get warm during the day, but it cools down quickly at night and you will want pants and a jacket. In the same way, it can be quite hot in the spring and summer, so wearing the cooler clothing then is important is well. Brining the right clothing with you will save you from having to buy a sweatshirt or pants in the winter or even a pair of shorts in the summer time.
  • Not Having the Essentials – Each family or travel party is different, so what each group needs could also be different. However, there are somethings that you MUST have with you in your park bag to ensure a smooth trip. Sunscreen, Band-Aids, snacks, a refillable water bottle, money, camera and/or phone, a jacket during the winter, and baby essentials (diapers, wipes, extra clothing) are among them. Remember, you can also bring food into the parks!
  • Bringing Too Much Stuff – While there are somethings that really should be brought into the park with you, there is also such a thing as too much stuff. Remember, you will be carrying your bag around with you all day – in lines and on rides – you don’t want to be hurting at the end of the day because you carried around a heavy bag all day. If you don’t think you’ll actually need it, don’t take it.
  • Not Doing Research – When compared to a trip to Disney World, Disneyland does not require as much planning, however some advance research should be performed. There is TONS of information out there about rides, attractions, shopping, and dining at the Disneyland Resort and you should do some research so that you know what you’re getting yourself into. On our weekend trip we were in line for the Haunted Mansion and a child asked the mom what the ride was about – she responded that she had never been to the park so she did not know. I think that reading about rides and dining, and looking at wait times before I leave home is both advantageous and FUN!
  • Over Planning – While some planning and researching should be done before a trip over planning is another mistake. I have seen families with printed out plans that laid their trip out for them minute by minute. A general plan and knowledge of the parks is a great thing, but over planning can make it so that you are just rushing from one attraction to another and not actually enjoying your time with your family and friends and in the magic.
  • Not Using Fastpasses – Unlike at Disney World Fastpass reservations at Disneyland cannot be made months in advance – we’re still using the paper Fastpasses out here on the West Coast – and there are many attractions for which Fastpasses are not available. The rides that do have Fastpasses, though, are the big name rides like Indiana Jones, Haunted Mansion, and Radiator Springs Racers all of which had wait times of over an hour this past weekend. To ensure that you can make it onto all of your favorite big name rides stop by the Fastpass distribution stations.
  • Not Using the Disneyland App – The Disneyland app can be incredibly helpful. No one wants to decide that they want to ride something only to walk over to it and find out that it has a wait time of 120 minutes. Being able to see the current wait times in the palm of your hand makes it so that you can be informed and not have to stand in those crazy long lines – unless you want to, that is.

Did we miss any? Have you made any of these mistakes? Let us know in the comments!

Wyndham Lake Buena Vista Resort -- aerial -- Downtown Disney Resort Area Hotels (2) (1280x873)

A Wyndham Lake Buena Vista Hotel security guard, Edward Cespedes, was arrested last week and is facing charges of grand-theft after Orange Country Deputies caught him on surveillance cameras stealing $500 from a guest room in the hotel.

According to the report there has been 23 complaints of money missing since early 2015.  The resort manager believed Cespedes was involved but couldn’t prove it. However Cespedes always seemed to be on shift when money went missing.

Last Wednesday Officers set up a sting operation with a room just like the previous thefts with $500.00 in a wallet and a door left open a crack.  They watched through surveillance cameras and saw Cespedes enter the room and remove the money from the wallet. He was later arrested with the $500.00 on him.

Cespedes admitted he should not be entering guest room but also said this is the first time he ever took any money. When the officers tried to give him a lie detector test he asked for a lawyer.

He has since been released on bail.

This is the 2nd news story in the past week involving theft while on vacation at Walt Disney World. Please remember to always lock your doors and put money and valuables away or out of site.

The jungle book

The Big Game is coming this Sunday, February 7th and everyone is excited to see if their favorite team will win. But for many of us the Big Game means commercials and Super Bowl Parties. To add to the excitement of my day, Walt Disney’s upcoming live action movie “The Jungle Book” will be added to the lineup and give us a sneak peek at the exciting story.

Directed by Jon Favreau and inspired by the Disney classic animated film, the new live active film takes us on the familiar adventures of Mowgli (Neel Sethi) as he travels through the jungle with his mentor, the panther, Bagheera (Ben Kinsley) and his fun loving Bear friend, Baloo (Bill Murray) after being threatened by the fearsome Shere Khan (Idris Elba).

The Jungle Book comes to theaters, April 15, 2016 and blends live action with realistic CGI animals and environment in 3D.  Check out a short peek at what is coming our way and don’t miss the preview during the Super Bowl.
