Earlier this week we reported that ESPN was adding a new venue, well it’s here! ESPN Wide World of Sports is adding a venue for cheerleading and dance competitions.
This building will be the world’s first venue built specifically for dance and cheerleading, they had help with the building of the venue from Varsity Spirit a cheerleading organization, says Disney. They will begin building this month and are scheduled to open mid-2017.
The arena will have seating for over 8,000 people and have space for practice and warm ups, there will also be enough room for 6 regulation basketball courts, 6 regulation volleyball courts or a concert.
Maribeth Bisienere, senior vice present of ESPN Wide World of Sports said in a press release;
“This will be a model for cheerleading and dance team competitions. We value our young athletes and want to give these incredible guests an experience that can only be achieved at Disney.”
Also the building will include a flexible design for one large competition space that can be set up for as many as four competition areas.
The new venue at Disney’s ESPN will help Disney bring in more competition.

Oh no! That’s the last thing we need . Now we’ll have more gangs of uniformally-clad tweens and teens running around the park cheering and dancing, swinging their arms around, knocking food and drink out of unsuspecting people’s hands, while they break into their dances and cheers. These usually not-well-chaperoned groups of over-adrenaline pumping darlings often make the crowds so much worse, make standing in a line with them an adventure in insanity and they should be in school, anyway. As a teacher, I can tell you how disruptive these kinds of trips are, to the academic learning process.
Just my opinion! I know there will be many cheerleading moms (of which I was one and the local competitions were quite enough), who are totally upset by this comment, because it gets them to Disney World, too. But the facts are the facts. Disney just keeps coming up with more ways to cram people into already overflowing parks!
