Contract Negotiations will Resume between Disney and Unions Later this Month

disney and union contract negotiations resume

Contract negotiations are set to resume between Disney and a coalition of unions at the Walt Disney World resort on February 19th.

As previously reported, the unions almost unanimously rejected a proposed contract on December 20th.  At that time almost 93 percent of union voters rejected an offer that would have given at least a 50 cent per hour raise, plus a one-time $200 bonus for full-time employees and those who get tips. This is the first time the two sides will meet since then.

Just under 40,000 Disney employees are represented by the six unions that make up the Service Trades Council Union.  Those employees include custodians, bus drivers, attractions workers, vacation planners and technicians who run the entertainment.

According to some Disney employees, they rejected the proposed contract because they believe they deserve higher wages and that they are struggling financially to make ends meet.  Disney countered saying that they are already paying their employees close to $2 more than the minimum wage in Florida.

A New Series of Star Wars Films Will be Written by Game of Thrones Creators

Star Wars films

It looks like winter is coming to a galaxy far far away!

It was announced today that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, creators of the smash-hit, Emmy Award-winning television series Game of Thrones, will write and produce a new series of Star Wars films.

These new films will be separate from both the episodic Skywalker saga and the recently-announced trilogy being developed by Rian Johnson, writer-director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”

“In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since,” Benioff and Weiss said in a joint statement. “We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.”

These films do not have a release date yet, but it has been reported that there have been zero sightings of White Walkers around Lucasfilm – whew!

‘Once Upon A Time’ Cancelled by ABC

Once Upon a Time

Once Upon a Time

If you are a Once Upon a Time”fan, we have some sad news to the pass along. This season will be it’s last.

Once Upon a Time originally debuted in 2011 and had a strong showing for six seasons. However, the original story line of the show wrapped up at the end of the sixth season and a new plot was introduced at the beginning of the seventh season. In addition, many of the original cast members left which caused ratings to slide.

Creators of Once Upon a Time, Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, released this statement to Entertainment Weekly:

“Seven years ago, we set out to create a show about hope, where even in the darkest of times, a happy ending would always be possible. But we never imagined the happy ending that was actually in store for all of us – years and years of adventure, romance, magic and hope. We’re so grateful to our brilliant collaborators – the cast, crew, and writers – as well as our partners at the studio and network for making this journey possible. But most of all, we want to thank the fans. Their fierce loyalty and devotion was the real magic behind Once Upon a Time. We hope they join us for these last few hours as we journey to the Enchanted Forest for one more adventure.”

Once Upon a Time will resume with new episodes March 3rd on ABC. The series finale of the show will air in May. The series finale of the show will make the 156th episode of Once Upon a Time.

Star Wars Dining! - Star Wars Day at Sea – Disney Cruise Line
After entering The Animator’s Palette, our culinary adventure began with a beautifully themed menu and bread service. Our amazing server, Danjiel asked if we needed any dietary accommodations and was so helpful throughout the entire meal! They even had gluten free bread for those of us with allergies!

Chip and Lisette had the Appetizer Sampler consisting of the Marinated Opee Sea Killer, Sand People Salad, and Mos Espa Grand Arena Tailgate Sandwich. Yum!

Jenny Slate to Voice Miss Nanny in New ‘Muppet Babies’ Series

Muppet Babies

Muppet Babies

As if we weren’t excited enough for the new “Muppet Babies” Series, today it was announced that Jenny Slate will voice the iconic role of Miss Nanny in Disney Junior’s reimagined “Muppet Babies,” premiering this March on Disney Channel. Slate is well known from Disney’s “Zootopia.” Slate will bring to life the voice of the Muppet Babies’ loving and playful caregiver, a character originally voiced by legendary actress, the late Barbara Billingsley. Almost 30 years after the Muppet Babies first stole the hearts of kids and families around the world, the series chronicles the hilarious playroom antics of the young Kermit the Frog, Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Animal and brand-new Muppet Baby, Summer Penguin.

As in the original Emmy Award-winning series, Miss Nanny will only be visible from the torso down. Adding a new touch to the reimagined series, the pattern of Miss Nanny’s tights will change in each episode to reveal the story’s theme. As always, Miss Nanny gently and cheerfully encourages the Muppet Babies to use their imaginations to explore the farthest corners of the universe and to utilize their creative thinking to solve most any problem.

Also joining the cast are: Melanie Harrison (“Fish Hooks”) as Piggy; Dee Bradley Baker (“Milo Murphy’s Law”) as Animal; Ben Diskin (“The Spectacular Spider-Man”) as Gonzo; Eric Bauza (“The Adventures of Puss in Boots”) as Fozzie Bear; Jessica DiCicco (“Puppy Dog Pals”) as Summer; and rounding out the cast as Kermit is Matt Danner (“Gravity Falls”), who also serves as supervising director on the series.

Check out a clip with Slate talking about her new role at Ms. Nanny here:

Toy Story Mania To Close Fastpass Line In April

Toy Story Mania To Close Fastpass Line In April

Although nothing has been confirmed by Disney, sources have stated that Toy Story Mania in Disney’s Hollywood Studios may be closing their Fastpass line April 9 – May 7. It’s being mentioned that Guests have not been able to reserve Fastpasses past April 9, which is a good indicator of the closing.

The ride will be operating on 1 track which will allow stand by line only. This is probably be due to the entrance of the ride being moved for the new Toy Story Land. Would that mean a soft opening to the new themed land could happen in May?

Check back with Chip and Co for more updates!

Maria & Enzo’s Italian Ristorante Dinner Review

Maria & Enzo's Italian Ristorante Dinner Review

Maria & Enzo’s Italian Ristorante  opened recently at Disney Springs.  If you are craving Italian food, like we were, stop by to enjoy a wonderful dinner at this venue.  Here is a Review of our overall experience with a strong focus on the dinner food options.

We began our evening with a pitcher of Roman Sangria for the table and a Classic Bellini for one.  The Sangria was poured tableside into glasses of ice with fresh fruit.  The Classic Bellini had a Rose Gold Tint that we thought was perfect!

For Starters we ordered the Arancini Di Carne and Caciocavallo Fritto.  The Arancini Di Carne is a beautiful rice croquette filled with mozarella and savory meat sauce.  The crispy outer coating lends a nice crunch to the melted cheese and meat sauce inside.  The Caciocavallo Fritto is lightly fried imported sicilian cheese and tomato sauce.  We enjoyed this as well.  The crispy layer surrounding the flavorful cheese was quite good.

Our main entree’s included Nodino Di Vitello which is veal chop, pomodoro and mozzarella.  We really enjoyed this particular dish and would recommend, for anyone who enjoys veal, to give this dish a try.  We also had the N’Casciata Al Forno which is a classic sicilian layered baked pasta, meat ragu, peas, zucchini, and Caciocavalla Cheese.  We loved the pasta layers combined with the vegetables and meat sauce.   The Spaghetti and Meatballs was also quite good and we really liked the spaghetti noodles in this tasty dish.

We closed out our meal with some beautiful desserts, a glass of Arancello and a glass of Limoncello.  We enjoyed all of the options and would recommend any of them based on individual taste preferences.  Choices included a Gelato Trio, Cannoli, Cassata Siciliana and Enzo’s Torta.  The Limoncello was our favorite of the two after-dinner Italian Liquers.  One word of note; the Cannoli is the real deal!

The service at Maria & Enzo’s is very good.  Special Thanks to our Server Florindo and the lovely Greeters at Passenger Check-in, as well as General Manager Gabriele Penazzi. We enjoyed the meal and the interactions we had with all of the Maria & Enzo’s Italian Ristorante Team.  We highly recommend a visit to this venue for a wonderful meal, with great service,  in a lovely atmosphere.  Maria & Enzo’s is open daily from 11:30am-12:00am along The Landing at Disney Springs.

Disney World Pulls Out All The Stops To Welcome Super Bowl LII Hero Nick Foles

Disney World Pulls Out All The Stops To Welcome Super Bowl LII Hero Nick Foles

It was a fairytale scene Monday, complete with its own castle, as Super Bowl hero Nick Foles of the Philadelphia Eagles starred in a milestone moment – a celebratory “I’m Going to Disney World!” parade down Main Street, U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom Park.

In front of the majesty of Cinderella Castle the day after the Eagles’ 41-33 improbable Super Bowl victory, park guests and Eagles fans lined the famous street as a smiling Foles waved from a float he shared with Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and other beloved Disney characters. Balloons and a blizzard of confetti in the Eagles’ team colors completed the happy scene.

Disney World Pulls Out All The Stops To Welcome Super Bowl LII Hero Nick Foles

“World champions,” shouted Foles. “To be at Disney World is unbelievable.”

Afterward, Foles spent some time enjoying Disney World, experiencing Disney attractions and interacting with Mickey and Minnie.

It was a magical experience for Foles who passed for three touchdowns and caught a fourth touchdown pass (unprecedented for a quarterback in Super Bowl history) in Philadelphia’s upset victory on Sunday night in Minneapolis. A backup quarterback for most of the season, Foles stepped into the starter’s role in December and turned in a stunning performance in Sunday’s big game. His heroics helped him deliver Eagles fans their first world championship in franchise history and earned Foles the game’s Most Valuable Player award.

After the Super Bowl victory, Foles looked into the TV cameras and announced he was “Going to Disney World,” an iconic line that is part of a TV ad airing nationally.

Check out that moment here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qY4BtIQUbfI

Foles’ trip Monday to Walt Disney World Resort continued a rich Disney history that began in 1987 when New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms first uttered those famous words “I’m Going to Disney World!” Thirty-one years later, the post-championship celebrations that take place at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida or Disneyland Resort in California remain an enduring reminder of the power of magic that happens at Disney Parks.
