Live-Action ‘Kim Possible’ Casting Underway

Live-Action 'Kim Possible' Casting Underway

Casting has begun on a live-action “Kim Possible” movie for the Disney Channel! “Kim  Possible” returns 16 years after the popular character – a typical high school girl who, in her spare time, saves the world from evil villains – debuted in the animated comedy/adventure series that became a global hit. The series was lauded for its empowered female role model who uses her brain, heart, and expertise to save the day.  Throughout 87 episodes and two original animated movies, “Kim Possible” traversed the social hierarchy of high school and, with her hapless sidekick Ron Stoppable and his naked mole-rat Rufus by her side, thwarted power-hungry villains Drakken and Shego, among others.

The live-action movie script writers are the creators of the animated series – Emmy Award-winning creators/executive producers Mark McCorkle and Robert Schooley (“Kim Possible,” “Big Hero 6: The Series,” “The Penguins of Madagascar”) – and Josh Cagan (“The DUFF,” “Bandslam”). McCorkle, Schooley and Zanne Devine, who produced or executive-produced over a dozen feature films including “I, Tonya” and “Easy A,” are executive producers.

The movie is co-directed and co-produced by Adam B. Stein and Zach Lipovsky. Stein and Lipovsky met as finalists on FOX’s “On the Lot,” a directing competition produced by Steven Spielberg and Mark Burnett, in which they each wrote and directed a new short film every five days. Most recently, they each directed episodes of Disney XD’s sci-fi adventure series “MECH X-4.” Previously, Stein was a staff director for ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” (2011-13) and directed more than 50 digital episodes, including “Nerd Court.” It was Lipovsky’s award-winning short, “Crazy Late,” for the 2005 Crazy 8s filmmaking challenge that gained him notoriety and propelled him to the “On the Lot” worldwide search for up and coming filmmakers. Among his subsequent credits are Syfy’s “Tasmanian Devils,” “Afflicted,” “Leprechaun: Origins” and a feature adaptation of “Dead Rising” for Legendary Pictures.

Blyth Nailling (ABC’s “Last Man Standing” and “Scrubs,” FOX’s “LA to Vegas,” “One Tree Hill” and “What I Like About You”) is the casting director.

Adam Bonnett, executive vice president, Original Programming, Disney Channels Worldwide, said, “Mark and Bob created an enduring character and kids all over the world found a friend in her, an average girl who just happens to spend her off-school hours thwarting evil villains.  Although Kim Possible ‘can do anything,’ kids and tweens found that this animated redhead was just like them. As we embark on the fun challenge of making Kim and Ron fully dimensional, I’m thrilled to be working again with Mark and Bob and to welcome the addition of a dynamic creative team – Josh, Zanne, Adam, and Zach – into a world where anything is indeed possible.”

The original animated series, launched in 2002, inspired two hugely popular animated original movies, “Kim Possible Movie: So the Drama” in 2005, which was the first animated title in the Disney Channel Original Movie franchise, and “Kim Possible: A Stitch in Time” in 2003.

In addition to its Emmy Award and eight nominations, the series’ other accolades are from the Parents’ Choice Foundation, the International Animated Film Society’s Annie Awards and Italy’s Pulcinella Award for Best Program and Best TV Series for Children.

Disney’s First Quarter Reports

Disney's First Quarter Reports

The Walt Disney Company has reported its quarterly earnings for their first fiscal quarter ending December 30, 2017.

The Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO, Robert A. Iger said, “The strategic investments we’ve made have driven meaningful growth over the long term, and we remain confident in our ability to continue to deliver significant shareholder value. We’re excited about what lies ahead, with a robust film slate, the launch of our ESPN direct-to-consumer business, new investments in our theme parks, and our pending acquisition of Twenty-First Century Fox.”

When comparing the first quarter of this year to that of 2016, there was a 4% increase in revenues going from $14.78 billion in 2016 to $15.35 billion in 2017.  There was a 1% increase in operating income going from $3.95 billion from last year’s fourth quarter to $3.98 billion this year.

There was a 1% increase in revenues for the quarter for Cable Networks reaching $4.5 billion. There was a 1% decrease in operating income landing at $0.9 billion.

Unfortunately, the company suffered a loss at BAMtech and a decline at ESPN. Lower advertising revenue was the reason for the decrease at ESPN. This was partially offset by affiliate revenue growth and lower programming costs.

The Disney Channels and Freeform did well this year due to lower marketing costs and a rise in affiliate sales.

Disney Parks and Resorts welcomed a 13% increase for the quarter at $5.2 billion and a 21% increase for segment operating income at $1.3 billion.

Studio Entertainment remained flat at $2.5 billion and there was a 2% decrease in for the segment operating income at $829 million.

There was a 2% decrease in revenues for Consumer Products & Interactive Media at $1.5 billion and a 4% decrease in segment operating income at $617 million. Lower operating income was due to decreases in merchandise licensing and retail businesses.

The $55 million allocated to the one-time bonuses for Disney employees will be in the next quarterly report.

All kinds of galactic goodies have been created to showcase the new park expansion, t-shirts, pins, hats and even prints! There are open edition items, and also Annual Passholder exclusives available as well. The remote trading post may not be open, but you can take a photo tour with us at the Launch Bay to see what souvenirs we can bring home!

There’s a lot of girly cuts, which is nice to see for Star Wars collections. Metallic seems to be the theme for the early launch, including a steel tumbler that looks like it’s been crumpled, and metallic accents on clothing and apparel. There is both a lanyard, and 2 special pins available, so if you’re a collector make sure to check those out.
