There’s a new, green crew greeting travelers arriving at the Orlando Airport. That’s right, there are aliens at the airport. Not the spooky kind we used to encounter on The Great Movie Ride, but the cute, little green guys from all of your favorite Toy Story movies. The green aliens have stopped by to greet Earthlings as part of the Toy Story Land opening celebration.

The Orlando Airport (MCO) is home to a Disney Store- perfect for the last minute souvenir you may have forgotten and also a quick taste of Disney for those passing through. As most Disney fans know, you haven’t really arrived at MCO until you’ve had your picture taken at the Disney Store (perhaps with Goofy or Snow White), so now you can get your Insta pics with the new aliens at the airport.

Discover Magic at Disney After Hours Event 2018

Discover Magic at a Disney After Hours Event.   Magic Kingdom, at the Walt Disney World Resort, is hosting this hard ticketed event during select nights through September.  Here is a Review of our experience from the July 14th evening of fun.

We began our evening at the Transportation and Ticket Center.  A Cast Member handed us our event tickets and the Disney After Hours brochure.  The monorail provided us the transportation needed on our journey to Discover Magic.

Upon our arrival at the Magic Kingdom, we were greeted by a Cast Member who welcomed us to the Disney After Hours Event.

As we entered the park, dusk was upon us.  We ventured around the Magic Kingdom to Discover Magic in the form of some lovely scenery.  Belle and Beast’s Castle was aglow, atop its mountain of rocks, in the dimming light.

Once Upon A Time, our first attempt to Discover Magic took place in the form of making a wish upon a  Princesses castle.  The beautiful Castle, pictured above, belongs to none other than Cinderella and her Prince Charming.  The colors and pictures projected onto the Castle were nothing short of magnificent!

Our second attempt to Discover Magic took place aboard a crafty corny joke boat.  The Skipper, and two Chip and Company representatives, boarded the vessel to cruise through a curious jungle.  Luckily, after journeying for “Niles and Niles,”  witnessing the “backside of water” and meeting Trader Sam we arrived back to where it all began.

Official wait times were actually walk-right-on-times! There were literally no lines for any rides.  We experienced almost every single ride offered at the Magic Kingdom in about 2.5 hours.

In fact, the only lines we experienced were the lines for the snack carts.

Snacks from the snack carts were complimentary all evening long.

After contemplating for 13 minutes, and agreeing we were NOT going to pick up any hitch-hiking ghosts, we approached the Haunted Mansion.  Even in our attempts to Discover Magic, prior to entering this building the hair on the back of our necks began to tingle.  We turned and were startled to discover Madame Leota staring at us “from regions beyond.”

After a Doom Buggy tour of the Haunted Mansion, we moved around the park to experience a multitude of additional experiences.

We enjoyed the opportunity to Discover Magic in the form of some fabulous photo-ops.

We realized that our time to Discover Magic was coming to a close.  We meandered through the park to take notice of the sheer beauty of the Magic Kingdom Park at Night.  Three hours flew by and we had such a fabulous time.  We will back to experience the Character Meets on our next adventure to Discover Magic.

Prior to exiting the park, we took a moment to stop and say “Thank you” to Walt Disney and the infamous Mouse who started it all.

Frozen 2 Release Date Announced

“Frozen 2” is looking to hit theaters on November 27, 2019. Elsa, Anna and the rest of everyone’s favorite “Let It Go” crew are back. With production under way, two new voices are in talks about joining the cast, Even Rachel Wood and Sterling K. Brown.

Even Rachel Wood is known for her roles in The Ides of March and HBO’s Westworld. Sterling K. Brown grabbed everyone’s hearts in This Is Us and Army Wives. The two would be joining Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell and Josh Gad who are returning to their roles of Elsa, Anna and Olaf.

Frozen, released in 2013, grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide. With hit music, lovable characters and an amazing storyline, it was no surprise that Disney confirmed a sequel. Frozen 2 will bring back directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck. Jennifer Lee recently became the Chief Creative Officer at Walt Disney Animation Studio. Peter Del Vecho will be producing the film.

Artist Creates Amazing Paper Silhouettes At Disneyland

ABC Interactive Design Manager Keith Lapinig spends his spare time doing something incredible. He creates Disney characters and moments out of card stock then takes the paper silhouettes to Disneyland. There they become a part of the scenery and he posts them to his Instagram account.

His work has been under fire lately as people think his work is faked. Lapinig sat down with Good Morning America and addressed it. “I get those who think I’m just digitally drawing a black silhouette around my hands in a photograph. In a way, it’s flattering that they think it’s a digital illustration. However, they were all taken on location with a physical piece of paper; you can even see the shadows on my hand! I believe the presence of my hand is a big part of the final piece, to show that I didn’t just Photoshop a black silhouette into any photograph.”

Lapinig’s love of Disney began very early in his life. His mother would take him to see all of the new Disney movies and then buy the previous ones so he could watch them whenever he wanted.

“I think it blossomed into a bigger love when I started to work for the World of Disney NYC store and realized a lot of the minuscule details of the films remained in my head; I used that retention to go on to win our annual Disney Trivia tournament. The quest to soak up more Disney knowledge just continued from there.”

He then went on to create a YouTube channel dedicated to Disney myth-busting.

He told Good Morning America, “Did you know the Beast from ‘Beauty and the Beast‘ doesn’t have a proper name? Everyone seems to think it’s Adam, but it’s not.”

After seeing paper silhouettes on social media, he decided to give it a try, Disney style. “This style with its interaction between the paper illustration and the environment intrigued me,” he said. “When translating to my art, I wanted the cutouts to interact with an entire environment, but a detailed illustration would get lost in the composition so I resorted to using a solid color.”

His first was Maleficent at Sleeping Beauty Castle. “It was my test subject to see if I was even capable of making this series. Once I realized it was, I’ve been pumping out more and more because they’re so much fun to make,” he said.

His paper creations have only been at Disneyland so far but he hopes to one day be able to capture paper art in all of the Disney parks.

Frontera Cocina by Rick Bayless at Disney Springs has some of the best Mexican food around and a lively atmosphere. Not only does Chef Rick Bayless serve up some amazing Mexican dishes, he is the eight-time winner of the James Beard Foundation Award.

Disney Parks Blog caught up with Chef Rick at the restaurant, that recently debuted its Taste of Baja menu, which features five new items including Spicy Ahi Tuna Tostadas.

Recipe: Spicy Ahi Tuna Tostadas
Makes 6 tostadas

  • ¼ cup good-quality mayonnaise
  • 1 canned chipotle chile in adobo
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon (or more) pure powdered chipotle chile
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons finely grated ginger
  • Salt
  • ¾ pound sashimi-quality ahi (yellowfin) tuna fillet
  • ½ medium seedless cucumber
  • ½ large Honeycrisp apple, cored
  • The juice of a large lime
  • 6 tostadas (crisp-fried corn tortillas)
  • Flaked sea salt for garnish
  • Cilantro leaves for garnish

In a blender or food processor, combine the mayonnaise and single canned chile. Pulse to combine, then process until thoroughly blended.

In a medium bowl, combine the olive oil, powdered chipotle and ginger.

With a sharp knife, cut the tuna into small dice—I like ¼-inch cubes—and scoop into a bowl. Finely dice the cucumber and the apple to the same size as tuna. Combine with the olive oil mixture and season with salt, usually about a generous ½ teaspoon. Refrigerate for about ½ hour for the flavors to mingle.

Just before serving, stir the lime juice into the tuna mixture and taste. Adjust with more lime and salt if you think necessary. Smear a portion of the mayonnaise on each tostada, pile on a portion of the tuna mixture, sprinkle with flaked salt and decorate with cilantro leaves.

This contemporary culinary experience is sure to please friends, family and food lovers alike.
