Pixar Pier Cast Member Costumes

This summer the Disneyland Resort will welcome a newly transformed land called Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure park. Thanks to photos made available to us by DisneyNews55, we now have a peek at the new costumes the Cast Members will be wearing.

The first costumes on the left will be seen at most locations throughout Pixar Pier. They are themed after the yellow Pixar ball sporting the blue stripe and red star which first appeared in the Luxo, Jr. short.

The second set of costumes will appear at the new Incredicoaster inspired by Disney•Pixar’s “The Incredibles.” The Incredicoaster (previously California Screamin’) invites guests into a mid-century-modern-style loading area where they will board vehicles with a distinctive, new look. New character moments, new scenes and special effects, and an exciting musical score connect the attraction’s story to Pixar’s “The Incredibles 2,” which opens in theaters June 15, 2018.

Construction Update on Coronado Springs Resort

It’s been a while since we have updated on the construction of the 15 story tower that will add an additional 500 rooms with suites and concierge-level services, at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. I’m staying here this week so I was able to grab a few photos of the building as well as the start of the restaurant that will be built in the middle lake, Lago Dorado.

The tower is really starting to take shape. There are currently 12 stories right now and 2 visible elevator shafts.

Aside from the restaurant that will be on top of the new tower, there will also be an over-water restaurant in the middle of the lake. There are supposed to be 3 walkways to the new Dining establishment, but right now they have only started constructing two of them.

This is the biggest construction project going on in 2018 at the Walt Disney Resort. When it’s all like said and done, it’s going to be pretty amazing. I can’t wait to see it!

One of the highlights of when Pixar releases new films is the short film which precedes it. This summer when you go to see Incredibles 2, you will also get to enjoy Pixar’s new short film: Bao.

A First Look at Bao: Pixar's New Short Film

Bao is the story of a Chinese- Canadian woman who is feeling the depressing effects of an empty nest. While in the kitchen making homemade dumplings, she soon finds herself given a second chance at motherhood as one of those dumplings comes to life.

Bao will be the first Pixar short to be directed by a woman: Domee Shi. Shi explains she was inspired to tell a story about her upbringing as an only child of Chinese immigrants. The Chinese word “bao” means two things when pronounced differently 1) steamed bun and 2) something precious; a treasure. Shi says her parents were always treating her like a precious treasure and therefore found herself creating this magical, fairytale-like story.

A First Look at Bao: Pixar's New Short Film

When Shi first presented her storyline with concept art to the Pixar team, she received lots of positive feedback and messages from others who felt they related to the story and were eager to help work on the film. Bao was received with as much positive feedback as Coco was from Pixar’s Latinx community.

As work on the film began, Shi’s mother, Ningsha Zhong, put on two dumpling making demonstrations for the crew. Shi refers to her mother as a “dumpling master”. The crew filmed and closely observed Zhong’s every movement in order to later recreate the hand movements and dumpling making process.

The biggest challenge the team faced? Designing the food. As experienced with 2007’s Ratatouille, the special effects used to create food on screen are very challenging to pull off. The crew found there was a thin line between making the dumpling’s pork filling look delicious and not disgusting. It was a big triumph when the crew was finally able to create an appetizing filling.

Incredibles 2 and Bao are set to arrive in theatres on June 15th.

Disney changing Spaceship Earth to Rose Gold and receives new sponsor!

Great News Rose Gold fans… It is being reported that Disney is going to be changing the look of Epcot’s Spaceship Earth from the boring old silver to the ever popular Rose Gold!

With sales for the Rose Gold Minnie Ears & Rose Gold Spirit Jersey at an all-time high, not to mention almost every single Disney Resort has either a Rose Gold Cupcake, Rose Gold Churro, or even a Rose Gold Macaron, it is safe to say Disney has Rose Gold Fever!

The change of Epcot’s Spaceship Earth to Rose Gold is on the heels of an all-new sponsorship change from Siemens to every kid’s favorite Easter Egg dying company Paas!

While we only have limited details on the change, it is CONFIRMED that Disney will be using a special process borrowed from the new sponsor Paas Easter Eggs where they will be dipping SpaceShip Earth into a special Rose Gold Solution to give it that beautiful Rose Gold Color!

The Walt Disney Company Pledge $1.5 Million to U. S. Parks and Recreation Programs

The Walt Disney Company has teamed up for the fourth year with the National Recreation and Park Association with a $1.5 million dollar investment in support of the “Meet Me at the Park” program. With Disney’s help, the NRPA will help to fund local park improvement projects in cities across the United States as well as a healthy living initiative focusing on play space grants.

The public will have the chance to vote to see which U. S. city receives a $20,000 grant this year as one of this years three projects. Public voting for the Meet Me at the Park Earth Month campaign will take place April 1–30, 2018. People can vote daily online at www.nrpa.org/DisneyMeetMeAtThePark

Disneyland’s new Incredicoaster has a brand new logo. The Incredicoaster, transformed from California Screamin‘, will open with Pixar Pier this summer at Disney California Adventure park. The ride is getting a whole new look including vehicles, loading area and character moments. This new experience will be located in “The Incredibles” area of Pixar Pier. Three other neighborhoods of the Pier will include “Inside Out”, “Toy Story” and an area dedicated to other favorite Pixar movies.

Recently a panel was held for 25 of the country’s top female journalists at the Walt Disney Imagineering Campus in Glendale, California. Journalists toured the campus and spoke with three leading female Imagineers for Disney parks. The panel discussed the intricate details and planning involved to create the immersive storytelling experience within Disney parks. The panel included an amazing mix of talent:

Charita Carter, Producer: Charita’s scenic illusion team is responsible for advancing new creative technologies to bring storytelling to the next level, including Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Jeanette Lomboy, Regional Executive WDI Pacific: Jeannette has been a creative force at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Ko Olina, Hawaii, and Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, among others.

Robin Reardon – Executive Creative Producer: Robin is one of the top creative executives working tirelessly on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The new Destination Disney Collection for Hot Topic, launches this summer, and was designed by the winners of last year’s Her Universe Fashion Show. The talented Grace Duval, Lindsay Orndorff, and Rose Ivy have created original outfits and accessories, inspired by the Disney Princesses. Her Universe has released a sneak peek of the upcoming collection with sketches of these beautiful designs.

Ashley Eckstein has beautifully illustrated their designs, that are inspired pieces for Ariel, Jasmine, Moana, Mulan, Rapunzel, and Tiana. These modern re-imaginings of the princesses also include an inspirational quote, with subtle nods to each character. Check out the stunning sketches below.
