We previously brought you the news that Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Walt Disney World’s flagship resort, would be celebrating its 30th anniversary with a “Grand” gala event on June 30, 2018. Unfortunately, this event has now been canceled. No explanation has been given for the change.

The event would have included live entertainment, an open bar, and a five-course meal featuring dishes inspired by the Grand Floridian restaurant’s most popular entrees through the years. Tickets for the evening were priced at $185.00 plus tax per person. Disney will be reaching out to everyone who currently has a reservation.

Fun Fact! Did you know that the property opened on June 28, 1988, as the Grand Floridian Beach Resort? The name changed to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa during the fall of 1997 after the Health Club and Spa were added.

‘Black Panther’ Is the Third Largest Grossing Movie in History

“Black Panther” has been in movie theaters for almost two months now and is continuing to break records. This weekend, the Marvel film sunk “Titanic” to become third highest domestic grossing film in history.

At press time, “Black Panther” has brought in $665 million passing “Titanic’s” $659 million. In second place on the list is “Avatar” with $760 million. And, it will take a lot for “Black Panther” to pass the number one grossing film on the list, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which has taken in around $937 million.

“Black Panther’s” continuing success might be halted soon by another Marvel movie. “Avengers: Infinity War” lands in theaters on April 27.

Pandora Utility Suit Coming to World of Avatar

This is going to be something amazing. As if Pandora isn’t already epic enough, they are adding these AMP, or Amplified Mobility Platform, that will resemble the AMP suits shown in the movie Avatar. These suits will be controlled by a Pandora Conservation Initiative pilot while giving park visitors information about their surroundings. The human-controlled AMP suit walks through the Valley of Mo’ara, and I can not wait to see it!

The suit was supposed to debut in the park on April 22nd, but Guests got a sneak peak a little early.

AMC Theatres Moving From Downtown Disney To Anaheim GardenWalk

AMC Theatres, currently located in Downtown Disney, will be closing June 30th to make way for a new 700 room hotel. The good news is that Anaheim GardenWalk announced this week that they will be welcoming AMC Theatres to its growing mix of dining, nightlife, family-friendly entertainment and notable shopping experiences. Projected to open in early 2019, AMC will renovate 22,358 square feet on the upper level next to House of Blues.

Anaheim GardenWalk is a unique “eatertainment” destination just steps from Southern California’s Disneyland Resort and Anaheim Convention Center. You can see the upper-level map of AMC’s future location below.

Hong Kong Disneyland To Host Outdoor Concerts for Rock Sensations Mayday

In a first for Hong Kong Disneyland, popular Asia Rock band Mayday, which has a strong fan base in Hong Kong, and Taiwan will host six concerts on May 4-6 and 11-13, 2018 at Fantasy Road Outdoor venue. This will be Mayday’s first ever large-scale outdoor concert series since they first graced the stages in Hong Kong over 12 years ago. It is expected that each concert will welcome about 20,000 fans.

In celebration of the concert event of the year, Hong Kong Disneyland will create two special packages that combine concert tickets with hotel and theme park tickets. The packages include a one-night stay at any of Hong Kong Disneyland’s three resort hotels and two days of Disneyland fun including the brand new “Carnivale of Stars” spectacular. Packages start at HK $4422 (for two people).

Tokyo Disney Resort Attendance

Tokyo Disney Resort attendance grew over 100% in the 2017 fiscal year. Running from April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018 30,100,000 persons visited Tokyo Disneyland® Park and Tokyo DisneySea® Park. This is a 96,000 person growth, or 100.3%, over the previous year.

This fiscal year saw new attraction Nemo & Friends SeaRider open and the summer special event “Disney Pirates Summer” at Tokyo DisneySea. For the winter months “Disney Gifts of Christmas,” the show that premiered at Cinderella Castle in Tokyo Disneyland, proved to be highly popular!

The attendance numbers for 2017 exceeded forecast numbers.

The Tokyo Disney Resort set their all-time attendance record in 2014 with 31,377,000 visiting.

Total combined attendance of the two Parks since the Grand Opening of Tokyo Disneyland in April of 1983 is 720,663,000 persons.
