Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Reveal Their Favorite Disney Films

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Reveal Their Favorite Disney Films

The newly wedded Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, had the pleasure of attending the annual WellChild Awards this past week. While attending, they sat down with 10 year old Chloe Henderson, a WellChild Award recipient who was born 10 weeks prematurely and due to Cerebral Palsy, is unable to walk. She had one very important question for the couple. “What’s your favorite Disney film?”

Meghan Markle stated that she has “always loved The Little Mermaid” while Prince Harry’s favorite Disney film is The Lion King. Prince William noted last year that The Lion King is also Prince George’s favorite film, Prince Harry’s nephew. Other favorites for Prince Harry include Moana and Zootopia.

The royal couple visited with many children and their families at the WellChild Awards. Kensington Palace released numerous photos and stories via Twitter during the event.

The Language of Aloha at Disney’s Aulani Resort – ‘Okina

Disney's Aulani Resort

The Language of Aloha at Disney's Aulani Resort - 'Okina

The Language of Aloha at Disney’s Aulani Resort – ‘Okina! There are so many new things people can explore when they visit Hawaii. Hike into a beautiful valley at Mānoa, or swim among the fishes at the coral reef at Hanauma. With all the extraordinary sights to see you might miss the little things that make Hawai‘i, and Hawaiian culture, so beautiful — like the ‘okina, a glottal stop used in written Hawaiian language.

The ‘okina is a letter in the Hawaiian language that looks like an apostrophe but in the shape of a 6, and is used to show where you should break your vowels when we writing Hawaiian words. It’s similar to how we say uh-oh in English, except it is used between all sorts of vowel sounds. It is most commonly seen in the state name, Hawai‘i or in the island where Disney’s Aulani Resort is located – O‘ahu. In fact, the ‘okina can be seen and heard all around the island as you explore street signs, names, and even local radio and television.

Aulani

Next time you visit Aulani Resort, be sure to practice using the ‘okina! Any Cast Member can help you pronounce the names as you visit various areas around the resort, such as ‘AMA‘AMA, the fine dining restaurant by the beach, or Ho‘okani Pila (Instrument Playing) class at Pau Hana Community Hall.

The Language of Aloha at Disney's Aulani Resort - 'Okina

One of the best uses of the ‘okina is the name of one of newest Disney friends: ‘Olu, a friend of Duffy the Disney Bear. If you saw photos of him, you may have noticed a small mark next to his name on the upper left-hand side. You might have thought it was a splash of water, but I’m here to tell you it’s an ‘okina!

Try Making This Delicious Brazil Marketplace Dish For Dinner

Try Making This Delicious Brazil Marketplace Dish For Dinner

With Epcot’s International Food and Wine Festival officially underway at the Walt Disney World Resort, guests are having no trouble finding delicious eats around the World Showcase. Have you ever tried a dish at Food and Wine and thought, “I’d love to make this at home?” If you’ve visited the Brazil marketplace located between France and Morocco, you’ve likely seen Moqueca. The team shared the recipe with #DisneyFamilia so you can make it in your own kitchen!

Moqueca is a seafood stew featuring scallops, shrimp and white fish with coconut-lime sauce on top of steamed rice. It’s so flavorful, with the right spice level to satisfy all!

Try this at your next family dinner for a great meal:

Moqueca (Shrimp Stew with Coconut Milk)
Serves 4 to 6

Ingredientes:
36 large shrimp, peeled and de-veined
6 tablespoons chopped cilantro leaves, divided
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
6 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 teaspoon coarse salt
2 medium yellow onions, chopped, divided
1 (13.5-ounce) can coconut milk
1⁄4 cup extra virgin olive oil
4 plum tomatoes, chopped
2 tablespoons butter or palm oil
3-4 cups cooked long-grain white rice

Directions:

  1. Place shrimp in wide shallow dish. Stir together 2 tablespoons cilantro, lime juice, garlic and salt in a small bowl and pour over shrimp. Turn shrimp to coat and marinate at room temperature for 20 minutes.
  2. Purée half of the chopped onions and the coconut milk in a blender; set aside.
  3. Heat oil in a large deep skillet over medium heat. Add remaining chopped onions and cook until translucent, 5 to 6 minutes.
  4. Add tomatoes and 2 tablespoons cilantro, stirring occasionally until tomatoes are soft, about 5 minutes. Stir in coconut milk purée and bring to a boil; reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 8 to 10 minutes or until sauce is slightly thickened. Stir in butter or palm oil.
  5. Add shrimp, pouring any remaining marinade in the skillet. Stir in remaining cilantro. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium, cover and cook for 5 minutes or just until shrimp turn pink.
  6. To serve, spoon over hot rice.

This year’s International Food and Wine Festival at Epcot runs through November 12th so there’s still plenty of time to plan those vacations!

What A Record Deal JD McCrary Signed With Disney!

record deal JD McCrary

Oh he just can’t wait to be king – or maybe it should be to sing!  A record deal JD McCrary signed with Disney is pretty huge!

McCrary, who is playing Simba in Disney’s remake of “The Lion King,” premiering in 2019, just signed a record deal worth a pretty penny. McCrary’s contract with Disney’s Hollywood Records has the young singer set to receive an $80,000 for 12 master recordings. Those recording can then be released on one album or in groups of songs.

Not only that, but the label will take on up to $170,000 of production incurred during the making of the album. They have also set a $15,000 budget for each music video McCrary wants to make.

While the first album has a nice pay day attached to it, the checks get bigger and bigger the more albums McCrary makes with Disney.

For his second album he would make between $400,000 and $800,000, the third album would be  $450,000 to $900,000.  When he hits the 4th and 5th albums he’s looking at $500,000 to $1 Million.  And finally for a 6th album McCrary would make $550,000 to 1.6 Million.

Whew!  Apparently Disney sees big things in McCrary’s future so it’s time we all took notice.

Not only his McCrary set to play the role of Simba in the 2019 remake of The Lion King, he currently stars on the OWN Network show, “The Paynes.”

The Hollywood Bowl hosts “The Nightmare Before Christmas” Next Month

Hollywood Bowl hosts "The Nightmare Before Christmas"

The Hollywood Bowl hosts “The Nightmare Before Christmas” this October! And Danny Elfman is back, reprising his role of Jack Skellington in the Tim Burton classic!

The Nightmare Before Christmas” debuted in 1993, making this the 25th anniversary of the story of a pumpkin king who wants to hijack Christmas.

Scheduled for October 26th and 27th the show will feature an orchestra and chorus performing the soundtrack of the movie live-to-screen. They will be conducted by John Mauceri. Catherine O’Hara as Sally and Ken Page as Oogie Boogie will star alongside Elfman. The rest of the cast has yet to be announced.

This also marks the third time this show has been performed live at The Hollywood Bowl.  The original performance sold out in 2015 as did the performance in 2016.  With a year hiatus it is back again. That this show should be extra special.

“For this 25th anniversary celebration I am directing the creation of animated digital projections for the proscenium of the Hollywood Bowl’s shell inspired by Tim Burton’s visuals,” wrote show co-producer, Richard Kraft, via email. “It will make the whole experience extremely immersive.”

And creating even more excitement is that fact that members of the original cast are returning for this performance to lend their voice to the vocals once again.

And the whole event will have, what else, but a Halloween theme.  Those attending the performances are encouraged to dress in their Burton-inspired best as costume contests are on the agenda. And there will even be trick-or-treat stands set up.

Tickets are now on sale via Ticketmaster, To purchase by phone, call (800) 745-3000 or online at https://www.ticketmaster.com/venueartist/90150/2541294.
