Fried Chicken Lovers: Disneyland Resort is the place for you! Celebrate National Fried Chicken Day on July 6, by taking part in the inaugural Disneyland Fried Chicken Celebration July 6-8.

You can find Fried Chicken at two locations at the Disneyland Resort – Plaza Inn at Disneyland park and Flo’s V8 Café in Disney California Adventure park. Both restaurants serve up a unique take on this all-American favorite!

Feeding Disneyland guests since the parks opening days is The Plaza Inn, formerly known as the Red Wagon Inn, with many of the furnishings handpicked by Lillian, Walt Disney’s wife. The restaurant’s signature chicken plate features three pieces of herb-seasoned fried chicken served with mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables and a buttermilk biscuit.

The culinary director at Disneyland park, Chef Jonny Hall, explains “our [Plaza Inn] sweet and savory brined chicken is lightly coated in a secret flour blend of garlic and spices, then fried under pressure to create a delicate and magical crunch. This simple approach known as ‘broasting’ results in a distinct deep golden brown color and crispy exterior, and an unbelievably juicy interior.”

Over at Cars Land in Disney California Adventure guests will find Flo’s V8 Café, a Route 66-inspired diner. With vintage-style gas pumps and tailpipe light fixtures – the nostalgia is strong here! And so is the love for Flo’s Famous Fried Chicken which is served with roasted garlic mashed potatoes, gravy and seasonal vegetables.

According to Chef John State, culinary director at Disney California Adventure park, “our [Flo’s V8 Cafe] chicken sings of toasted flour and notes of a rich egg batter scented with prominent ground black pepper spice. While the exact science to this recipe is a secret that’s only known to Flo, we use a traditional basket fryer, ensuring there is a pronounced crunch with every bite and the meat is filled with sweet-salty juices.”

Department Of Justice Approves Disney/21st Century Fox Merger

Disney is now one step closer to a merger with the 21st Century Fox company. The Department of Justice has approved the deal. The only stipulation put into place was that Disney would have to sell Fox’s 22 regional sports networks. This would prevent Disney, who already owns ESPN from creating a monopoly in the sports broadcasting business.

Assistant Attorney General Makan Delrahim said “American consumers have benefitted from head-to-head competition between Disney and Fox’s cable sports programming that ultimately has prevented cable television subscription prices from rising even higher. Today’s settlement will ensure that sports programming competition is preserved in the local markets where Disney and Fox compete for cable and satellite distribution.”

Disney will pay $71.3 billion to acquire most of Fox’s assets including FX, National Geographic, Fox’s current 30 percent share of Hulu, as well as film franchises such as Avatar and X-Men. The Fox News Channel and Fox broadcasting stations are not part of the merger deal.

Comcast, Disney’s rival in the merger deal, is not out of it yet. They still have time to top Disney’s current offer.

Shortly after the Department of Justice’s decision regarding the Disney/Fox merger, a memo was sent out by Fox CEO James Murdoch and co-executive chairman Lachlan Murdoch.

DEAR COLLEAGUES,

Today the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice cleared the pending Disney transaction. This decision is a big step forward towards the completion of our Disney transaction and the creation of new “Fox.”

The Department of Justice announced today that it has entered into a consent decree with Disney and 21st Century Fox that allows the acquisition to proceed, while requiring the sale of the Fox Regional Sports Networks within 90 days following the close of the Disney transaction. However, there are still other conditions to closing, including stockholder approval and additional regulatory approvals outside the U.S. At this point we anticipate that the Disney transaction and the creation of new “Fox” will be completed within 6-12 months.

We realize the Department of Justice’s decision will reshape the future course of our regional sports businesses and add uncertainty for our colleagues across the RSNs. Our RSNs are an incredibly strong asset offering television’s most valuable content and we are confident that whatever the outcome, the future of our regional sports business will continue to be incredibly bright.

It has been confirmed by 2 Disney Cast Members today that Duffy will no longer be at the coloring stations at the Kidcot Fun Stops. As of July, he will be going away and no word as to who or what will replace him. But, you still have time to decorate your own Duffy!

The 2019 Walk of Fame Class Includes Disney Stars

The 2019 Walk of Fame Class includes Disney Stars! Announced yesterday by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, star included are from film, television, recording and live theater.

Both of our favorite Frozen sisters, Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell, have made the list! Menzel in the live theater/live performance category and Bell for film honors.

And their not the only Disney Princesses to make the list. Mandy Moore, who voiced Rapunzel in Tangled is in the television category while Genovia’s own Mia Thermopolis – or rather, Anne Hathaway – joins the list in the film category.

But it’s not just princesses who’ve made the cut. Alan Arkin, who is playing J. Griffin Remington in the upcoming live action movie, Dumbo, will be receiving the honor for film. Along with Bell, Hathaway and Arkin in the film category are Guillermo del Toro, who is said to penning the upcoming live action Pinocchio and Lupita Nyong’o, who has appeared in Black Panther, Jungle Book and several Star Wars franchise productions.

Joining Moore in the television category are Terrence Howard, who lent his voice to James in The Princess and the Frog, Stacy Keach who was the voice of Skipper in the Planes franchise, Lucy Liu who voiced Silvermist in the Disney Fairies franchise.

And keeping Menzel company in the live theater/live performance category is Cedric the Entertainer who voiced Leadbottom in the Planes franchise.

We love seeing Disney so well represented with all these new Hollywood Walk of Fame Stars! Congratulations to all who are in 2019 class!

Alien Swirling Saucers On-Ride Video

We are just days away from the official Grand Opening of Toy Story Land and experiencing Disney’s newest attraction Alien Swirling Saucers! Three-eyed Toy Story Aliens take guests on a whirling flying saucer ride in toy rocket ships as part of Alien Swirling Saucers, one of the new attractions inside Toy Story Land, opening June 30 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We even have Alien Swirling Saucers On-Ride Video to share at the end of this article!

As guests become “honorary toys” in the new land, they encounter Alien Swirling Saucers, a playset that toy-owner Andy of Pixar Animation Studios’ Toy Story films won at the Pizza Planet restaurant. The new attraction whirls and blinks with colorful lighting, electronic space music and nonstop fun.

Alien saucer pilots are straight out of the Toy Story movies, with their pointy ears, three eyes, short antennae and facial expressions designed to convey surprise or delight. Each extraterrestrial has hitched its flying saucer to one of 22 rocket ships; together, flying saucers and rockets spin through the Pizza Planet galaxy.

With “The Claw” dangling overhead, guests climb aboard their rocket ships and hover in Pizza Planet’s version of “deep-dish space” for an out-of-this-world saucer whirl to the beat of new versions of Toy Story songs and musical themes. During the adventure, the Aliens spin guests around toy icons like Planet Pepperonia and a pizza-inspired space station.

Before boarding Alien Swirling Saucers, guests can pose for a photo with a Buzz Lightyear action figure standing more than 14 feet tall on top of toy building blocks near the entrance to his Star Command Space Station Playset. Toy robot guards flank the Pizza Planet-inspired marquee.

Inside Star Command, there are buttons to push, dials to turn and a switch to toggle for audio and visual effects. His creativity never flagging, Andy built a toy gantry with his Construx toy pieces that guests use to traverse from Buzz’s command center to the Swirling Saucers game. Guests who are spin-averse can swirl vicariously by watching from the viewing area in between and around the playset.

“This is a world created by a boy’s imagination,” said Dave Fisher, Walt Disney Imagineering Senior Story Editor. “Andy has brought out all his space toys – it’s a really fun and high- energy attraction.”

Before or after a spin on Alien Swirling Saucers, guests can pose for an out-of-this-world selfie with a stationary, photo-ready green Alien in its colorful saucer just outside the attraction. Toys of all makes and sizes – from a 10-foot-diameter “rubber” ball to colorful Cooties – have been carefully placed by Andy among the landscape of overgrown grasses, toy shrubs and playset trees throughout Toy Story Land.

We are just days away from the official Grand Opening of Toy Story Land and experiencing Disney’s newest coaster Slinky Dog Dash! Jumping on the coolest canine toy ever, guests are in for a rollicking good time at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This multi-launch, family-friendly roller coaster careens around bends and “catches air” over camelback humps as it runs across the 11-acre land. We even have Slinky Dog Dash on-ride video to share at the end of this article!

As honorary toys, guests have Andy of Pixar Animation Studios’ Toy Story films to thank for this incredibly fun experience. They get to ride his creation and be inside Slinky Dog’s coils as the lovable pooch twists and turns around the track. It all takes place in Andy’s backyard, where he used the Dash & Dodge Mega Coaster Play Kit to assemble this speedy toy.

Andy’s idea for his double-launch coaster – a Disney first – was to pick everyone’s favorite floppy-eared dachshund with the stretching coil body – Slinky Dog – to send guests around the track. The attraction’s ride vehicles are spring-tailed spinoffs of Slinky, the iconic American toy from the 1940s. Track and supports for the coaster are done up in bright colors of red, orange, yellow and blue.

Guests approaching the ride launch see Andy’s plans sketched out in Crayola crayon on notebook paper. Glue bottles, empty toy boxes and stray coaster parts and pieces are strewn about – Andy’s pet project was clearly a work in progress when he was called away. But that’s when the toys will play!

In one hilarious scene, the coaster swoops around blocks Andy stacked around his Jenga game. Rex, the toy dinosaur, is precariously perched atop the unstable Jenga stack trying to decorate the toy block city by stringing up colored Christmas lights – a daunting task when you’re a dinosaur with short front arms! Jessie comes to his rescue, working to untangle Rex’s dino-sized predicament.

Andy also tricked out his coaster creation with a power booster. When Slinky Dog Dash hits its midway point, the coaster stops, reverses a few yards, then shoots through multiple rings pulsing with sounds, spinners, and flashing lights to launch riders into the second act of the ride experience.

“The first half of the ride is many swirls, turns and dips, and after the second launch come a drop and camelback humps – as if you were playing with a Slinky Dog toy,” explained Dave Minichiello, Executive Creative Director of Walt Disney Imagineering.

Andy saved one last surprise for his coaster’s finale: Wheezy, the squeaky toy penguin from the Toy Story films, breaks into a rendition of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.” Created especially for Slinky Dog Dash, the Audio-Animatronics figure of Wheezy is unique among Disney Parks globally. Toys and toy packaging complete the scene, including a Rubik’s Cube, a game canister for Pick-Up Snakes and toy wooden blocks spelling out F -U-N – all against the backdrop of a towering book, Mr. Pricklepants’ “Songs for Singing,” compiled by the huggable hedgehog from “Toy Story 3.”

“As Toy Story Land welcomes our guests – as toys – into Andy’s backyard, Slinky Dog Dash invites them into Andy’s imagination,” said Phil Holmes, Vice President of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. “What Andy has dreamed up will deliver nonstop coaster fun for all ages.”

Toy Story Land opens in just 3 days!! One of the most anticipated attractions in the new land is the Slinky Dog Dash. We just found out that the ride will feature an on-ride photo that will link to your MagicBand. Other rides such as Seven Dwarfs Mine Train link the same way, via MagicBand with no preview screens as you exit the ride. So no scanning your band is needed!

Just by wearing your MagicBand on the ride, your photo will automatically link to your My Disney Experience account, on the MyDisneyPhotoPass.com website, or at a physical Disney PhotoPass Sales Center. If you have an active Memory Maker account, you will be able to download your photo and save it. If you do not, you would have to purchase the individual picture by itself.
