  • Eat to the Beat concerts – 225 shows in all – will rev up the America Gardens Theatre stage three times each night with new musical acts including Vertical Horizon, Sheila E, 98 Degrees, MercyMe and Glass Tiger, along with returning festival favorites spanning a broad range of eras and genres from rock and pop to rhythm and blues.
  • The grandest of the festival’s don’t-miss tasting events, Party for the Senses at World ShowPlace, will welcome acclaimed chefs and vintners Sept. 22, Oct. 6, 13, 20 and Nov. 10 to showcase creative bites and palate-pleasing sips with sensational live entertainment.
  • “Mix It, Make It, Celebrate It!” hands-on workshops Wednesdays and Thursdays will offer new opportunities for guests to interact with visiting chefs, bakers, mixologists and other pros. Event hosts and topics will be announced this summer.
  • Popular TV chefs and other culinary icons will entertain guests and inspire their palates at festival seminars and other events. Just a few of the big names on tap are Robert Irvine, Maneet Chauhan, Jet Tila, Shaun O’Neale, Keegan Gerhard, Dan Pashman and Rock Harper.

New PhotoPass Props At Disney Water Parks Just In Time For Summer

Disney’s Water Parks are a great way to keep cool during the heat of Florida’s summer. Typhoon Lagoon gives guests the chance to experience a storm of fun. They can plunge down rushing rapids, sunbathe on a sandy beach, glide down a lazy river, and enjoy the thrills and spills of the whitewater journey called Miss Adventure Falls! Blizzard Beach is frosty fun for the whole family. Once a one-time ski resort, Blizzard Beach melted into a watery wonderland. Zip down the slushy slopes of Mount Gushmore on one of the world’s tallest and fastest water slides. Float down the tranquil river and sunbathe on the white-sand beach. Children under 48 inches tall can even splash around in their own water play area with a snow-castle fountain and kid-sized water slides.

Now through September 3rd, Disney PhotoPass Service will be at both water parks, with some great props!

Disney Expected To Have a Profitable Third Quarter Despite Solo and Uncertainty Around Fox Merger

profitable third quarter for the Walt Disney Company

According to a recent report in DEADLINE, Wall Street analyst Steven Cahall is predicting a profitable third quarter for the Walt Disney Company despite the poor performance of Solo and the uncertainty that remains among media analysts regarding the merger between Disney and Fox.

Despite these shortcomings, Cahill still rates The Walt Disney Company as a solid pick for investors in the media sector with a 12-month price target of $135 a share which is up over its current level of $104.

However, the future remains uncertain as Disney will no longer be buying back $20 billion of its stock as soon as expected due to the bidding war with Comcast over the acquisition of 21st Century Fox.  This ongoing battle is occurring even after Fox already accepted Disney’s $52.4 million offer last December. The ball for a merger currently sits with Comcast who could be competing with Disney in a bidding war of up to $40 per share ($80 billion dollar range.)

Readers are encouraged to watch this space for a closer look at The Walt Disney Company’s quarterly projections as well as updates on the Fox merger.

Disney To Receive $1.2 Million After Winning Tax Lawsuit Against Orange County

Magic Kingdom

After a tax dispute with the Orange County Property Appraiser’s Office, Walt Disney World will be receiving a refund for property taxes in the amount of $1.2 million. The dispute was over the property value of Disney’s Beach Club and Yacht Club Resorts. According to OCPA, the assessed property value of those resorts in 2015 was $337 million. Disney disagreed and brought forth a lawsuit, claiming the resorts should only be valued around $189 million. The judge in the case agreed, noting that the way OCPA assessed the property was incorrect.

Rick Singh, the Orange County Property Appraiser issued a statement about the ruling. “The judge’s decision to reduce the market value in the disputed assessment will result in a refund of over $1.2 million that Orange County Public Schools received in tax dollars from Disney.” He also said that they stand behind their methodology and that “with all due respect to the judiciary, the court’s decision was grossly flawed and full of inaccuracies, and we will immediately file a motion for re-hearing this case.”

A Disney spokesperson responded, saying that the assessment by OCPA was inaccurate. The refund will come from the Florida Department of Revenue and not those schools. “We are pleased with the judge’s ruling, which confirms the property appraiser’s methodology was inappropriate and unconstitutional, and led to an unlawful 118 percent increase in the assessed value of Disney’s property.”

Are Interactive Disney Park Robots Headed to a Disney Resort Near You?

interactive Disney park robots

Disney Enterprise, Inc. has published a patent today that focuses on robots interacting with each other within groups. And from the document, we can assume these are being developed for use in a Disney theme park. Are interactive Disney park robots something we can expect to see soon?!

The patent is titled “Systems, methods, and apparatuses for stereoscopic imaging” and focuses on a camera that allows to or more robots to interact within the same area.

The patent states:

“Robots may be used for entertainment, utilitarian, and/or other purposes. A plurality of robots may be deployed in an environment and programmed to carry out one or more tasks. A plurality of robots in such a scenario may be referred to as a “robot swarm.” It is often desired for the robots within the swarm to be “aware” of each other. Individual ones of the robots and/or a central processing unit may carry out localization processes including determining relative location, speed, the direction of movement, and/or other information about individual ones of the robots. A tracking system may be used for localization. Tracking systems include, for example, onboard tracking systems, external tracking systems, optical tracking (e.g., camera tracking/imaging), wireless communication systems established between two or more robots and/or between a robot and a central processor, global positioning systems (GPS), and/or other systems.”

Are Interactive Disney Park Robots Headed to a Disney Resort Near You? Are Interactive Disney Park Robots Headed to a Disney Resort Near You? Are Interactive Disney Park Robots Headed to a Disney Resort Near You?

The Summary also states:

“Accordingly, one aspect of the disclosure relates to a system for omnidirectional stereo camera imaging for on-board localization of an omnidirectional stereo camera apparatus. In some implementations, the omnidirectional stereo camera apparatus may be incorporated into a movable robot platform, and/or another type of platform. By way of non-limiting example, a movable robot platform may comprise a robot used in an amusement park, and/or other types of robots.”

Now, I certainly do NOT have a technical background, but it appears that Disney is hoping to have robots (or maybe “Droids”) in an area of a theme park(s) that are aware of each other and interact with each other.  I don’t know about you but my mind immediately went to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – opening at the Disneyland Resort in the summer of 2019 and the Walt Disney World Resort later that year.

I’m intrigued and excited to see this development in action!

New Sadie Sparks Series Coming To Disney Channel

New Sadie Sparks Series Coming To Disney Channel

A brand new series is coming to The Disney Channel! This supernatural animated show called Sadie Sparks will feature the talented voices of  Strictly Come Dancing’s Craig Revel-Horwood, comedian Rufus Hound, and young British actress Georgia Lock.

Hitting the screen in 2019, the show will follow the adventures of 14-year-old Sadie. After discovering that she has magical abilities, Sadie becomes a wizard in training! With the help of Gilbert, a grumpy old rabbit, she learns how to control her new magical skills while still facing everyday teenage life.

Two different animation styles are used with Sadie Sparks. The Magical Realm, where Gilbert the rabbit is from, appears in 2D while the human world uses CGI. The two bounce from world to world with the help of a magician’s hat portal.

The show was announced at the Children’s Media Conference in Sheffield, UK. It will be co-produced by Brown Bag Films and Cyber Group Studios located in Paris. The voices of the show include Lock, Revel-Horwood and Hound along with Sammy Moore (from The Evermoor Chronicles with Georgia Lock), Tyger Drew-Honey (Outnumbered), Dominique Moore (Footballer’s Wives), Morwenna Banks (Peppa Pig), Laura Aikman (Waterloo Road), Dan Renton Skinner (Yonderland) and Rufus Jones (The Casual Vacancy).

Sadie Sparks will feature 52 shows and was created by Bronagh O’Hanlon. He will also direct it. The writing team is led by Rebecca Hobbs.

“Animation is integral to the storytelling and heart of Disney Channel and we’re excited for our audiences to get to know this new band of mysterious and wonderful characters, as we follow our protagonist Sadie who learns to master her wizard powers with the help of her best friend, as well as juggling normal 14-year-old challenges, such as high school and forming unbreakable friendships. There is a lot of heart and warmth to Sadie Sparks, which we believe will really resonate with Disney Channel fans,” Orion Ross, VP Content, Animation, Digital & Acquisitions, Disney Channels EMEA said.
