Disney’s After Hours at Hollywood Studios is perfect for those who don’t like crowds

Disney's After Hours at Hollywood Studios is perfect for those who don't like crowds

If minimal crowds, walk-on attractions, and all-you-care-to-eat Mickey bars sound like your perfect fairy tale, hold on tight, because your Disney dreams are about to come true! On Saturday night, Hollywood Studios hosted its first Disney After Hours event, and it was practically perfect!

Disney's After Hours at Hollywood Studios is perfect for those who don't like crowds

Disney After Hours is a separately-ticketed event that takes place on select nights after the park officially closes. Basically, you get three extra hours of park time in an almost empty environment! The Hollywood Studios event begins at 8:30 pm but guests can enter the park as early as 7:00. That gives event guests time to enjoy a dinner reservation or nighttime show in addition to the event perks.

Once the park closes at 8:30, the real fun begins! I was amazed at how efficiently the Cast Members cleared out the park. Hollywood Blvd. remained crowded for a while, but the rest of the park was amazingly empty. I was able to ride both Tower of Terror and Rock n Roller Coaster in the span of fifteen minutes! There was no wait for either ride, and while the pre-shows were playing, the doors were open, giving guests the choice to either enjoy or skip it. A Flurry of Fun, the projection show was shown on the Tower of Terror, was playing throughout the night. I loved watching it in such an uncrowded environment! I watched the entire thing twice and played in the “snow”!

Before this event, I had never truly appreciated the depth of design detail that makes up Toy Story Land. I have visited several times, but it’s always quite crowded. I am usually more worried about not running into someone than noticing the details around me. At Disney After Hours, though, I was able to wander around and just enjoy being a toy! For example, did you know that Andy’s footprints are imprinted on the ground? I had seen the criss-cross lines before but always with tons of people standing on them. Until seeing the complete image, I did not even realize that it was a footprint! I was also excited to hear the details in Toy Story Land. I knew that Woody welcomed you to Toy Story Land, but I didn’t realize that he has so many different monologues! He even tells jokes! Jessie and Rex also speak to each other from the top of the Slinky Dog Coaster, and right now, they have a holiday dialogue!

The wait times in Toy Story Land were probably the most amazing part of the entire Disney After Hours event! Slinky Dog Dash usually has the longest wait of any ride in Hollywood Studios, and Fastpasses are hard to nab. At this event, the wait time was five minutes; yes, FIVE! I was a little shocked but super excited to ride it multiple times! Alien Spinning Saucers and Toy Story Mania were also walk-on attractions during the event. In fact, the longest waits were for the Toy Story character meet and greets, and even those were less than ten minutes.

Treats are one of my favorite parts of a Disney day. I spend time thinking about just what snack I most want on any given park trip. For this event, though, I didn’t have to choose; unlimited novelty ice cream, popcorn, and bottled sodas are included in the price of admission! You heard that correctly–all the Mickey bars, ice cream sandwiches, and popcorn you want to eat are yours for the taking. I had an ice cream and popcorn dinner, and I’m not even sorry! Although the table service restaurants were closed for this event, Woody’s Lunchbox, Anaheim Produce, and KRNR The Rock Station served their normal menus. Bar kiosks were also open throughout the park.

Seeing the park without crowds was a novelty to me and to the Cast Members! They were all so friendly and helpful! The Photopass photographers were feeling creative and really took their time to get great shots. The characters were extra playful too! I think they were just as amazed as I was to see the park so empty. I felt very relaxed, and this was definitely one of my most enjoyable Disney experiences! A very special thank you goes to Disney and the Cast Members who hosted the event! Once again, you created magic!

Tickets for Disney After Hours cost $125 in advance or $129 on the day of the event. Annual passholder and Disney Vacation Club members do get a discount, bringing the cost to around $95. Before I attended this event, I thought that seemed like a steep price to pay for three hours in a theme park. However, I got more done in those three hours than I usually get done in an entire park day, and I left feeling relaxed and refreshed. I’m already making plans to attend another one soon!

Kids Love ‘Flurry of Fun’ at Disney Hollywood Studio!

Kids Love ‘Flurry of Fun’ at Disney Hollywood’s Studio!

I know we have already talked about how the magic of Disney is different through the eyes of a child, but this is different! Kids LOVE ‘Flurry of Fun’ at Disney Hollywood Studios during the Christmas season.  To be honest, as a Preschool teacher and kid at heart, even I get caught up in the Disney Magic as it snows down on my head!  During the magnificent event filled with sparkly décor, sweet treats, dancing lights, cherished music, and snow there is something for the whole family.

‘Flurry of Fun’ brings many magical events starting with two, that’s right TWO, nighttime shows at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  Trust us, you will want to stay for both.  First up, Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!  Displayed on the Chinese Theater, kids will love the animated elves from the ABC show “Disney Prep & Landing”.  This show is complete with special effects, fireworks, and of course the snowfall.  The second show is located over on Sunset Boulevard.  Projected onto the famous Hollywood Tower Hotel, this show provides youngsters with an enchanting projection show featuring the lovable Disney characters like Olaf and Toy Story Pals.

flurry of fun

Olaf will then return to the screen in the final scene by serenading us with the “For the first time in forever: A frozen singalong”.  As we already know, kids love to singalong with Olaf, but his Holiday cameo makes it that much more magical.

Of Course, Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a visit to see Santa.  Located in a quiet area inside the Once Upon a Time store, St. Nick will be greeting guests now through December 24th.  Make sure your kids bring those wish lists and adults, you bring your cameras!

Lastly, the Holidays wouldn’t be complete without all the yummy food!  Disney Chefs have done a really great job with the desserts for the little ones.  Created just for kids, the Prep and Landing Gingerbread Cupcake is sure to delight, decorated with colorful dancing elves!  Not a cupcake fan?  No worries, be sure to pick up the delightfully delicious mini shortbread cookies!  But be sure to stay on that nice list, these sweet treats are perfect for sharing with your loved ones.

flurry of fun

Have you been able to attend ‘Flurry of Fun’ at Disney’s Hollywood Studios?  We would love to know what your favorite part of this festive celebration is.  Mine has to be the food, of course, and Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!

Peppermint Soft-Serve Sundae at the Magic Kingdoms Storybook Treats

Peppermint Soft-Serve Sundae at the Magic Kingdoms Storybook Treats

Part of the holiday treats line-up at the Magic Kingdom includes the Peppermint Soft-Serve Sundae found at Storybook Treats.  The colorful pink and white swirled soft-serve ice cream and is a mixture of vanilla and pepperminty goodness.  The sundae is covered in a blanket of whipped cream and topped with festive sprinkles.  If you’d like to make this sundae just a bit more sinful, chocolate sauce is available upon request.

The Peppermint Soft-Serve Sundae is served with a chocolate and crushed peppermint-coated straw.  While this straw sounds absolutely amazing there is a downside to it, it’s a paper straw coated in the chocolate and crushed peppermint, which would make enjoying it a bit awkward, but still possible.  Although the straw is paper, you can still enjoy the extra chocolate and crushed peppermint by scrapping it off the straw into the soft-serve ice cream and enjoying it bite after delicious bite.

Even though the peppermint flavor of the swirled soft serve is mild this sundae is still sure to please peppermint lovers both big and small.  So, if you’re at the Magic Kingdom this holiday season make your way over to Storybook Treats and order yourself a the Peppermint Soft-Serve Sundae, it’s $5.49, and oh so good.

Paddlefish Holiday Cooking Class Hosted by Executive Chef Steve Richard

Paddle Fish Holiday Cooking Class

Paddle Fish Holiday Cooking Class

The Paddlefish Holiday Cooking Class was hosted by Executive Chef Steve Richard at Disney Springs. Christmas is in the air at Paddlefish. Executive Chef Steve Richard hosted a beautiful cooking class that was a great reminder of what is important this time of year – food, family & friends.

The cooking class took place on the third deck in a room fit for foodies, and we even got our own recipes. The courses were focused on foods that needed to be cooked slow.  Or as Chef liked to say “if you don’t give them love, they won’t love you back.”  Stations were set, the smell of garlic was in the air, and my glass of Chardonnay had been poured.  It was time to watch the master cook!

Classic Mushroom Risotto

I will say I am a good cook, but I have never been brave enough to cook risotto.  Chef Richard really took great care in explaining what will make and break your risotto.  I feel like now I have the courage to conquer risotto at home! Let’s not forget that it was the best risotto I have EVER eaten.

Braised Short Ribs with Creamy Polenta

The care Executive Chef Steve Richard took in the recipe notes is incredible.  This is how you can tell someone really appreciates and loves what they do.  I could watch him braise all day.  Then, the servers brought out our plates… my jaw hit the floor.  Heaven on a plate, just divine!

Braised Short Ribs – Leftovers

Paddle Fish Holiday Cooking Class

Surprising us all, he taught us how to create leftover magic with the braised short ribs.  He whipped up this incredible braised short rib ragu in all of five minutes?!

Apple Bread Pudding

Using the famous Paddlefish rolls, he created the most scrumptious apple bread pudding.  With the caramel drizzle and scoop of vanilla ice cream, I scraped every bite I could out of the mini cast iron skillet.

Overall Thoughts

Paddle Fish Holiday Cooking Class

Why did it have to end?! It is true what they say “time flies when you are having fun.”  Executive Chef Steven Richard was personable, open to all questions, and just so welcoming.  Thank you again to Paddlefish for inviting Chip and Co. to this festive foodie holiday cooking class.  To find out more information about upcoming events and make reservations, click here.  When will you and your family be dining at Paddlefish in Disney Springs next? Update on the Phantom Manor from Tom Fitzgerald

Update on the Phantom Manor from Tom Fitzgerald

Guests are still waiting with anticipation until the reopening date for the Phantom Manor is announced. Disneyland Paris new estimation is Spring 2019! Disneyland Paris sat down with Tom Fitzgerald, Portfolio Creative Executive at Walt Disney Imagineering, who is overseeing the refurbishment for an update.

Disneyland Paris official asked, “Phantom Manor is a beloved attraction for many, can you tell us about what it means personally to you?”

Tom Fitzgerald mentioned that Halloween was his favourite holiday as a child and said how he used to love to build haunted walk-throughs in his house so he could scare his friends and neighbours! He remembered how excited he was when Walt Disney announced plans to build “The Haunted Mansion” at Disneyland! When the attraction opened, he and his family flew out to California to visit Disneyland. His first “tour” of the Haunted Mansion blew him away and became his favourite attraction. He also said, “I’ve loved every iteration of this attraction around the world, including Phantom Manor here at Disneyland Paris”.

“What excites you the most about the upcoming reopening?”

Tom said mentioned all of the new magical technologies that have been invented since Disneyland Paris opened, Imagineers had lots of options to explore!

“As you teased early this summer, some new magic is coming to this attraction in addition to a global refurbishment: can you give us a glimpse of what we can expect?”

This renovated has allowed Imagineers to revisit the storytelling of the attraction and answer some of the questions which have been shrouded in mystery. Questions like “Who is the Phantom? Who is the bride?  What happened years ago that led to all of this?  When Phantom Manor re-opens its doors soon, many of the mysteries will, at last, be revealed.  And not just revealed… these mysteries will actually unfold before your eyes through some of our new illusions!”

“Now you really got us teased! Any last word?”

“We know fans have been anxious for Phantom Manor to return, and “we’ve been dying” for everyone to see what we’ve been up inside this beloved attraction”.

No wonder guests cannot wait for the reopening of the Phantom Manor, the new features and technology sound incredible for this iconic and beloved attraction!

Avengers Endgame Trailer Breaks Viewing Records!  The Avengers Endgame trailer was released yesterday and has all of the internet buzzing with speculation on what the future is for our beloved super squad. Will Karen Allen Grace Our Screens Again as Ravenwood?

Karen Allen as Marion Ravenwood

Will Karen Allen Grace Our Screens Again as Ravenwood?

During a recent interview with actress Karen Allen, who played Marion Ravenwood in Indiana Joneswas asked if she would want to return to her iconic role.  While celebrating the 30th anniversary of the 80’s classic, Scrooged, Allen was excited about entertaining the idea of the possibility of a fifth Indiana Jones sequel!

Karen Allen was first best known for this iconic role by appearing in Raiders of the Lost Ark and was easily one of the strongest female leads of the 80’s.  So why wouldn’t she want to return to the big screen to play the role she was amazing at?  I think fans would agree as well after the response she got when she returned to the big screen for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Karen Allen as Marion Ravenwood

The actress voiced her excitement with this statement, “I would love to return, and I think that there’s a plan to shoot a fifth and possibly final one-at least in the incarnation of it being done by Steven and Harrison-and I’m very hopeful that I’ll be part of it”.  Allen goes on to add, “But that will reveal itself in probably a year, when they have a script and are moving towards production.  For now, it’s still a mystery! I haven’t been told if Marion’s even coming back!”.

For now, we will just sit and wait with anticipation that our favorite iconic leading lady will return to the big screen.  I guess if I want to see Allen playing Marion Ravenwood anytime soon we will just have to binge watch on the couch and hope that she will grace our screens again.

Magic of Disney Store New Location Landing at Orlando Airport Spring 2019

Magic of Disney

Magic of Disney Store New Location Landing at Orlando Airport Spring 2019

The Magic of Disney Store’s new location will be landing at Orlando Airport Spring 2019.  The original location, beside the security checkpoint for Gates 1-59, closed on July 25, 2018.  The closing of the store is related to a checkpoint expansion.

Good news tends to prevail when it comes to anything Disney related.  The new Magic of Disney Store will relocate to it’s expanded space just across from its original location.  We can’t wait to see what it will look like when it opens!

For the time being, the store remains under the watchful eyes of Buzz Lightyear and the little Green Aliens.  Be sure to stop by the Disney Earport store, near the Hyatt Atrium,  for last minute purchases.  We look forward to seeing what the Magic of Disney will have in store for us next Spring.

Check out a video of the new location here!

Try Walt Disney’s Family Chili Recipe For Your Next Family Dinner

Try Walt Disney's Family Chili Recipe For Your Next Family Dinner

There is nothing better on a cold winters night than a warm bowl of hearty chili and snuggling with those you love after popping in your favorite Christmas or Disney movie!

Walt Disney was all about family, and like most families, The Disney’s had their own family recipes for delicious meals they enjoyed together. A Disney Family favorite around the holidays was this delicious chili recipe. We hope you enjoy this classic take on a seasonal favorite!

Be sure to check your pantry, fridge, and cabinets to make sure you have all the ingredients before getting started! Here is what you will need to make Walt’s Chili:

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs. Coarse Ground Beef
  • 2 Onions, sliced
  • 2 Cloves of Minced Garlic
  • 1/2 Cup Canola Oil
  • 1 Cup Chopped Celery
  • 1 tsp. Chili Powder
  • 1 tsp. Paprika
  • 1 tsp. Dry Mustard
  • 1 Large Can of Tomatoes
  • 2 lbs. Dry Pink Beans
  • Salt to Taste

For more heat in your chili just add a pinch of one or more of these spices:

  • 1 Small Yellow Mexican Chili Pepper
  • Coriander Seeds
  • Turmeric
  • Chili Seeds
  • Cumin Seeds
  • Fennel Seeds
  • Cloves
  • Cinnamon
  • Dry Ginger/Ginger Powder

How To Prepare Your Chili:

The night before you plan to enjoy this meal, soak the beans overnight in cold water. After beans are soaked, drain remaining water from the beans. Add beans to a deep chili pot. Fill chili pot with water until the water is 2 inches above the beans. Add sliced onion. Bring pot to a boil then lower the heat and simmer until beans and onions are tender (approximately 4 hours). While beans and onions cook, prepare the chili sauce. Add oil to a pan or skillet. Brown meat and minced garlic in the pan or skillet. After meat is cooked thoroughly, add remaining ingredients and simmer for 1 hour. When beans are tender, add sauce to beans and simmer for 30 minutes. Serves 6-8 people.

Mmm MMM! This sounds so yummy and it is the perfect way to warm up after a cold day. Now is your chance to try a meal that was enjoyed by Walt, Lillian, and their daughters Diane and Sharon, in the comfort of your own home.

If you make this chili at home we would love to see pictures in the comments! Let us know what you think of Walt’s Family Recipe!
