Virtual Reality Iron Man Experience Coming To Disneyland Paris

Marvel Super Hero Summer is in full swing at Disneyland Paris to celebrate the parks’s 25th anniversary. One of their major partners, Orange, has developed an amazing new experience to bring to the party. Starting July 21st, guests can suit up in Iron Man gear and set off on a 4 minute 4D trip.

Guests will begin their experience flying around New York City, then propel into space before landing back in Disneyland Paris. No official end date for the virtual reality experience has been given but Marvel Super Hero Summer runs through September 30th.

The 4D virtual reality content, created by Orange, will be available soon on Orange’s VR content Catalog (available on iOS, Android, Samsung Gear, Oculus and HTC Vive).

Maleficent 2 Release Date

Maleficent 2 will hit theaters

Exciting news for all of you Maleficent fans! A release date has just been revealed for 2020. Maleficent 2 will hit theaters May 29, 2020.

Production started on the sequel Back in May.

A fantasy adventure that picks up several years after Maleficent, in which audiences learned of the events that hardened the heart of Disney’s most notorious villain and drove her to curse a baby Princess Aurora, Maleficent II continues to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen, as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within.

A sequel to the 2014 box office hit Maleficent, at Pinewood Studios and on locations throughout the U.K. Oscar and three-time Golden Globe winner Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning reprise their roles as the dark fairy Maleficent and Princess Aurora, respectively, two characters from the studio’s animated classic “Sleeping Beauty,” whose untold story was brought to life on screen in Maleficent.

Also joining the cast as Queen Ingrith is Michelle Pfeiffer, a Golden Globe Award-winning, Emmy® nominated and three-time Academy Award-nominated actress. Also joining the production are Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Skrein and Robert Lindsay. Harris Dickinson joins Maleficent II as Prince Phillip.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios Experiences Massive Outages

Update: We are now hearing that the rides and air conditioning went out due to a power outage but rather an issue with Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ cooling systems.

Are you currently at Walt Disney World? If so, my suggestion is to stay away from Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Per online reports, between 5:00 and 5:30 pm, the Park experienced a massive power outage that caused all rides, including the two new ones in Toy Story Land, to be closed. In addition, most other attractions do not have air conditioning. Reports also indicate that buses are not currently dropping any guests off at the Park.

Currently, this is what My Disney Experience is showing for rides and attractions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios:

While it’s unknown at this time what made the power go off, this is causing many to be inconvenienced, especially those who may have Advanced Dining Reservations at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and those who may not have the Park Hopper option on their tickets. But in true Disney fashion, we are hearing that guests have been offered additional FastPasses and the option to “hop” to other Walt Disney World Parks.  We also have heard that additional buses have been sent to the Park if people are leaving.

It is also unknown when Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be re-open but keep following along with us here at Chip & Co. for all the latest.

“Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining Month” Menus Released For 2018

The menus for “Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining Month” have been released and I’m already hungry. There are more than 100 Orlando area restaurants participating this year and best of all, 14 of them are at Walt Disney World! What’s great is that through Visit Orlando, one dollar from every meal served during Magical Dining Month benefits local nonprofits that help children in need. Just ask your server for the “Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining Month” menu to enjoy a fantastic meal and help two amazing Florida based charities.

The program takes place every night from August 24 through September 30, 2018, during the restaurant’s normal dinner hours. Each restaurant features a 3-course prix fixe dinner at an amazing price of $35 per person (tax and gratuity not included). One dollar from each meal sold will benefit Best Buddies and Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida.

Disney Cruise Line Offers New Ports in Sweden for 2019

Disney Cruise Line has been in the process of enhancing their European cruise itineraries for the summer of 2019.

We have already talked about the brand-new Mediterranean itineraries including seven stunning destinations in Italy, Spain, Northern Ireland, and France. But today I’m excited to give you a look at two new ports-of-call in Sweden during our 2019 Northern Europe sailings.

The first is the picturesque port town of Nynäshamn, which provides a scenic gateway for guests to visit Stockholm, Sweden’s vibrant capital city boasting incredible medieval sites, lush parks, and a charming waterfront area. The second is Gothenburg, a diverse metropolis bursting with fun family activities and known for its breathtaking coastline, wondrous archipelago, and world-class dining.

Read on to find out more about all that these new ports have to offer…

Nynäshamn

This small, modern town offers some impressive sights of its own, plus access to the rich history, art and culture of Stockholm. Here are some tips for making the most of your day at port:

  • Before heading to the big city, don’t miss your chance to check out some of the area’s famous Viking rune stones. There are 27 of these ancient structures — you can find several of them along the old road between Djursnäs and Vansta.
  • When you arrive in Stockholm, spend some time exploring the medieval streets of Gamla Stan, the city’s old town. Brimming with heritage and charm, this area is home to marvelous palaces and mansions and centuries-old churches and cathedrals.
  • Be sure to visit one or two of Stockholm’s 100-plus museums devoted to the preservation and display of European paintings, sculptures, and handicrafts. Two of the most popular is the renowned Nationalmuseum — it houses 16,000 paintings and 30,000 other works of art, including pieces by masters like Rembrandt, Alexander Roslin and Carl Larsson — and the Vasa Museum, which was specially built to preserve the world’s oldest ship, along with the 40,000 fascinating objects that were discovered with the vessel after 333 years at the bottom of the city harbor.
  • Take a tour of Stadshuset (Stockholm City Hall) which has stood as a marvel of modern architecture since its completion in 1923. One of the daily tours will take you through two glorious main courts, the handsome council chamber, and the Blue Hall — home of the Nobel Prize banquet.

The Disney Magic will call on Nynäshamn during one special seven-night Northern Europe cruise from Copenhagen on Aug. 1, 2019.

Gothenburg

Sweden’s second-largest city has a world-class lineup of fine art, food, and fun for the whole family. Here are a few recommendations for your day ashore:

  • Go island-hopping and explore the Gothenburg Archipelago, a chain of more than 20 islands teeming with beautiful beaches, delightful villages, and boating and fishing excursions.
  • Choose from Gothenburg’s many family activities: There’s something for everyone at the country’s most popular amusement park, Liseberg, which has a magnificent sculpture garden and fantastic themed rides. Kids will also love the Universeum science center, where they can go on a rainforest safari, step into a space station and conduct an experiment in a science lab.
  • Families will also enjoy a visit to the Garden Society of Gothenburg, a verdant park abounding with tiny cafes and flowers. Experience Gothenburg from a waterside perspective from onboard a Swedish paddan boat. A paddan boat tour is a lovely, leisurely way to explore the city’s quiet canals, low bridges, and picturesque streets.
  • Visit the Gothenburg Museum of Art to see the city’s foremost art collection, with works by French Impressionists as well as Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Picasso and Scandinavian masters like Edvard Munch and Carl Larsson.

Gothenburg is a featured port-of-call during two sailings in 2019: an 11-night Norwegian Fjords and Iceland cruise from Dover on July 21 and a seven-night Northern Europe cruise from Dover on Aug. 18.

As Tokyo Disney Resort celebrates their 35th Anniversary with the  “Happiest Celebration!” check out the new entertainment they’ve got coming!

Both the “Dreaming Up!” daytime parade and the “Happiest Celebration on the Sea,” premiered on the resort’s anniversary in April.  And now guests can enjoy a stunning new nighttime spectacular and two new stage shows.

Update: Cast Member Killed At Disney Was Run Over By Utility Vehicle

A Cast Member at the Walt Disney World Resort was killed in an industrial accident on Monday. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office was called to a guard gate near Disney’s Pop Century Resort. Juan Alberto Ojeda, 33 was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to authorities, Ojeda was a vehicle technician and was working on a utility cart when he became trapped underneath. The cart drove up onto a curb and hit a fence before landing on top of the Cast Member. Two witnesses were able to get to Ojeda quickly but they were unable to help for fear of injuring him further. He went unconscious a few moments later.

“All of us at Walt Disney World Resort are deeply saddened today by the loss of one of our cast members. Our thoughts and concerns are with his family, friends, and fellow co-workers.” Walt Disney World President George A. Kalogridis said. “This is a tragic accident, and we are providing resources and care for those impacted and are working closely with the proper authorities to understand how this happened.”

Juan Alberto Ojeda leaves behind a wife and a son. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

 

Disney Executives Top 50 Theme Park Influencers List

The theme park industry website, Blooloop,  has released their first-ever “50 Theme Park Influencers” list. And it should come as no surprise that Disney executives top this list!  Leaders from other Orland0 attractions also found a spot!

In the introduction to this list, Mel Taylor, the CEO of Omnico Group, said: “Creativity, drive, the ability to absorb information and make judgements based on the evidence are important qualities every influencer must have. The biggest influencers are often those who lead with consistency, insistence on the highest standards and openness to innovation make them stand out. They are the kind of people who can quickly assess what will or will not work and whose judgement is widely respected beyond their immediate colleagues and has a resounding impact on the wider industry.”

The Walt Disney Company boasts 2 spots in the Power 10.  Those belong to Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO of the Walt Disney Company and Joe Rohde, Portfolio creative executive at Walt Disney Imagineering – otherwise known as the man who claims he WILL fix the Yeti!

Also making the list from The Walt Disney Company are Kathy Mangum who is the senior vice president of Walt Disney Imagineering and Bob Weis, the president of Walt Disney Imagineering.

Other leaders with ties to the Orlando area that join Iger and Rohde in the Power 10 are Thierry Coup, Senior vice president of Universal Parks & Resorts; John Jakobsen, Chief new openings officer at Merlin Entertainments (LEGOLAND); and Nick Varney, CEO of Merlin Entertainments (LEGOLAND).

Disney Changes Opening Date For Jungle Cruise Movie Starring Dwayne Johnson

Disney recently announced a few changes for it’s movie release calendar. Jungle Cruise was originally set to hit theaters October 4, 2019. It has been pushed back by one week.  This live action film based on the popular theme park ride will now be released on October 11th next year. Jungle Cruise will star Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt and Jesse Plemons.

The movie is currently in the filming stages with Jaume Collet-Serra directing. Collet-Serra also directed The Shallows, Unknown and Orphan. The hope for the film is a success similar to that of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Disney was able to turn a ride into a film that shattered box office records. The Pirates of the Caribbean ride and the Jungle Cruise ride can both be found at Disneyland and Magic Kingdom at the Walt Disney World resort (along with some of the overseas parks).

Dwayne Johnson took to his Instagram back in 2015 to express his excitement over landing the role in the film.

Mark your calendars! Jungle Cruise hits theaters on October 11, 2019.
