Captain Marvel Takes Flight With Alaska Airlines

Patrons of Alaska Airlines can now take to the skies with Captain Marvel. The airline revealed a special edition plane to celebrate the release of the highly anticipated film, Captain Marvel. The special aircraft’s new artwork features Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, ablaze in her red and navy suit. Over the wings, her feline friend “Goose” is featured as well.

The themed 737-800, tail number N531AS, will be cruising through the skies at an average speed of 530 miles per hour. She makes her debut at Sea-Tac International Airport and will fly guests on routes all over the country, including flights to Hawaii.

Capitan Marvel fans can follow Alaska Airlines on Facebook and Twitter for a chance to win a pair of tickets to the premiere of the film. The grand prize includes round-trip airfare and hotel accommodations in Los Angeles as well. Official details can be found here.

Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel should feel right at home in the skies, as the film highlights in her origin story. Carol Danvers is a U.S. Air Force fighter pilot, who turns into one of the galaxy’s mightiest heroes after joining an elite military unit called Starforce. Captain Marvel is set to open in theatres on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2019.

Disney Would Cast New Wolverine Actor For MCU/Fox Merger. Hugh Jackman would be replaced with a younger actor who would better fit the role of ‘Wolverine’ if the character were to make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

According to Disney and Kevin Feige, executive producer of Marvel Studios, Hugh Jackman would not take up the mantle as Logan, aka Wolverine, should Marvel Studios decide to bring the character into the MCU.

How could an actor who has been the staple for such an iconic role be replaced? Franchise Producer Lauren Shuler Donner elaborated during a recent panel with Television Critics Association: “Hugh, just the physicality of it all, just to bulk up… This man worked so hard to bulk up, would get up at four in the morning to bulk and eat protein meals every two hours because his natural state, they used to call him Worm when he was a kid. So his natural state is a very skinny guy. Once you reach a certain age, the body just won’t go anymore. I think he was wise to say, ‘I’m at that point. I can’t do it.’ Now, that doesn’t mean he can’t come back as older Wolverine. You never know. Future Wolverine, you never know.”

There you have it folks. Jackman hung up his claws at the end of Logan and wished to pursue new roles and continue growing in his craft without the time and physical restraint his previous role would put on him. He is currently performing in “The Man. The Music. The Show. Hugh Jackman World Tour 2019.” He is performing pieces from his major roles in Broadway Style Productions including The Greatest Showman, Les Miserables, The Boy from Oz, and more! It has not been ruled out that Jackman could reprise his role to portray an older Logan again, but the likelihood of that happening is rather slim with both the actor and the studio going in different directions creatively.

“I don’t know what Kevin [Fiege]’s thinking honestly. I don’t even think Kevin knows. I think Kevin’s still dealing with this wealth of characters and trying to make sense of them.” Donner stated, when pressed for insight in regards to why the decision was made by Marvel Studios Executive Producer, Kevin Feige.

With so many questions still up in the air in regards to the Fox/Disney Merger, and how that will translate between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and 20th Century Fox Films, we are keen to hear Kevin Feige’s plans for these two very different worlds to collide in a way that is both satisfying to fans and respectful of the stories and characters involved.

Tangaroa Terrace Reopens at Disneyland Hotel with New Items!

The Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill has officially reopened at the Disneyland Hotel at the Disneyland Resort! The Tangaroa Terrace is back in action with a new vibrant look, made-to-order dishes, signature cocktails, Dole Whips and more!!

The Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill is inspired by Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room mid-century modern architecture. This amazing Bar & Grill also combines traditional motifs from many Pacific islands, such as Hawaii, Tahiti, Fiji, Sumatra and New Guinea. Imagineers have created even more of the traditional motifs complete with a tropical mural full of hidden tiki room birds! Guests will also enjoy the bamboo accents, exotic stone countertops and glass fish net float lights. In addition, guests can enjoy an expanded new patio with a brightly colored lounge chairs, tiki bar stools and a communal table.

For Breakfast, served until 11 am, guests can choose from plenty of options! Guests can enjoy a classic breakfast sandwich with kalua-style pulled pork, fried egg, hash browns, and gravy. If it it’s something sweet you are craving, try the Acai Chia breakfast bowl or the pineapple upside down pancakes! There are so many more options to choose from!

Would you rather go for lunch or dinner?! Tangaroa Terrace has something for you too! There are many sharable options for guests to try! One such option is the Kalua-style Poutine! This yummy dish consists of crispy crinkle fries topped with pork, cheese curds, gravy, pickled onions, and Fresno chiles. Don’t like the way that sounds? Try the Shipwreck Nachos topped with kalua-style pulled pork, pineapple salsa, hoisin sauce, togarashi aioli, and barbecue sauce.

D23 Expo 2019 Design Challenge Now Open

Where are my artists at?! The D23 Expo 2019 Design Challenge is now officially open and you do not need to be a grim grinning ghost to enter it!

In case you did not guess it, the theme for the D23 Expo 2019 Design Challenge is Haunted Mansion. This is actually the perfect theme as it is the 50^th anniversary of the attraction at Disneyland Park. Those entering the contest can also use Phantom Manor (Disneyland Paris) and Mystic Manor (Hong Kong Disneyland) as inspiration as well. For a complete list of contest rules and to enter the contest, click on this LINK. Entrants do not need to be members of D23: The Official Disney Fan Club to enter the contest.

If you are interested in entering this contest, you must complete the Entry Form and submit 3 to 5 photos (and an optional video) of your completed artwork by the deadline.

The following criteria will be used to evaluate the entries:

Creativity (25%)
Originality (50%)
Artistic Expression (25%)

In all, 23 finalists will be selected and have their artwork displayed on the show floor at the D23 Expo 2019. These finalists will also receive 2 complimentary one-day tickets to attend D23 Expo 2019 on Sunday, August 25, 2019. A trophy will be awarded to the Grand Prize winner, second runner-up, and third runner-up. The Grand Prize winner will also receive a prize of $2,300.

Disney California Adventure Park is Celebrating ‘The Lion King’ This Summer

There are so many movies being released in 2019 for Disney. Three new live-action movies–Dumbo, Aladdin, and The Lion King–plus Toy Story 4, are all being released March to July 2019! It’s going to be a great time to visit your local movie theater, but don’t forget about celebrating at Disney Parks too! Disney California Adventure park, at Disneyland, is bringing Disney’s “The Lion King” alive this summer! The park is having a celebration inspired by the new movie.

To honor the spirit of Africa, there will be many activities for guests to join in on. Throughout your day at Disney California Adventure, a traveling troupe of storytellers will bring the story of “The Lion King” to life. They will celebrate with story, song, and dance for everyone to join in.

“The Lion King” is directed by Jon Favreau. It takes you through a journey in Africa about the future king overcoming tragedy and betrayal as he learns his place on Pride Rock. This story of overcoming is roaring into theaters July 19, 2019.

It’s hard to believe that Disney’s Hollywood Studios opened almost 30 years ago, on May 1, 1989! This year, as we celebrate 30 years of Hollywood Magic, it’s the perfect time to meet some of your favorite pals from the Disney Pixar films!

The city of Municiberg comes to life as we party at “An Incredible Celebration“. Mr. & Mrs. Incredible along with Frozone and the citizens of Municiberg invite you to join them for the “Super Shindig“. You may even find yourself on TV, thanks to a local crew and a roving reporter. Explore the area for fun photo-ops, and taste one of Jack-Jacks favorite cookie num-nums!

At the Edna Mode Experience, Edna herself is ready to strike a pose with her adoring fans. Tour her gallery of famous designs, and try your hand a designing your own. Just remember – “No Capes!”.

Nearby at Walt Disney Presents, you’ll find two more friends from another fantastic Pixar film. Mike Wasowski and his best friend James P. Sullivan are on hand to show you around the Laugh Floor of Monsters, Inc. Step through the door to the monster world for a fantastic photo op.

Sarge and the other green army men are on patrol in Toy Story Land. Shrink down to the size of a toy and join them for some fun and games in Andy’s backyard. You’ll play a round of “Sarge Says” or drum along with the Green Army Drum Corps. Of course Buzz, Woody, and Jessie are nearby to take a photo and join in the playtime too!

Finally, beginning March 31st, your friends from “Cars” will arrive at Hollywood Studios too! Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy will open for a brand new show experience. This new adventure will bring guests face-to-face with their favorite Piston Cup champion – Lightning McQueen along with his racing protégé Cruz Ramirez!

This bakery item is topped with a delicious raspberry frosting and can be purchased from now until March 3. Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Ice Cream Shop is offering a classic box of chocolates in a new heart-shaped box design. You will want to also check out the special new offerings at both Amorette’s Patisserie and The Ganachery as well.

Reusable Bags Now Available At Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts

The Disney Parks have finally introduced reusable bags throughout all of the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Theme Parks and Resorts! Guests visiting either coast will now have the option of carrying home purchases with fanciful new reusable shopping bags.

Guests looking to use reusable bags are now offered three sized bags for a small price. These reusable shopping bags are made of 80% recycled materials. You may remember the bags first introduced at the World of Disney stores last fall, which these are similar to. Beloved Park Icons are mixed with Disney character designs, with unique bags being offered for different locations.

Four different style bags will be offered at Disneyland Resort. There is a unique bag for Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park, as well as a bag for the Downtown Disney District and Resort Hotels, plus the current World of Disney bag.

Reusable Bags Now Available At Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts

There will be a total of SEVEN bag designs introduced for the Walt Disney World Resort. Each of the four theme parks will have it’s own unique bag. There will be a bag for owned-and-operated shops at Disney Springs; a shared Walt Disney World Resort-inspired bag for Resort Hotels, ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and other merchandise locations, as well as the existing World of Disney bag as well.

These are offered as alternative to plastic shopping bags, plus they also make great souvenirs to bring home. The addition of reusable bags will help minimize single-use plastic waste across Disney operations, and are part of their broader efforts to extend their ongoing commitment to conservation and advance their environmental sustainability goals.

This February Come to WonderGround Gallery in Downtown Disney to Meet the Artists

Make Plans to visit the Downtown Disney’s WonderGround Gallery in February to meet three of the featured gallery artists. The three artists included are this month’s featured artisan, Eunjung June Kim, the artist in residence, Gabby Zapata, and a one-day appearance by John Coulter.

Gabby Zapata, the artist in residence will be appearing February 9-10, 16-17, and 23-24. She will be available from 5-9 P.M. on those days. Gabby is an artist for the Disney Digital Network. She works as a senior visual development artist. Gabby’s work can be found on many of the Disney social media platforms.

Eunjung June Kim is this month’s featured artisan. June creates Disney-inspired works including a piece she recently was asked to create in celebration of Mickey Mouse’s 90th anniversary. The piece can be found in the WonderGround Gallery. Additional works by June are featured in the gallery this month. She will be at WonderGround February 16-17 and 23-24 from 1-4 P.M.

On February 17 Gabby and June will be joined by John Coulter for an artist showcase and signing. John is a Disney Parks official fine artist. His works of art can be found at shops in both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. During the event, each artist will be releasing new works of art. This is the perfect time to pick up one of their masterpieces for your home or office.

WonderGround is a contemporary art gallery located in Downtown Disney at the Disneyland Resort. The shop features all types of Disney inspired art as well as other novelties, such as custom Vinylmation figures, mugs, magnets, and note cards. The art pieces featured in the gallery are available in many different mediums and interpretations of all things Disney. Dozens of artists unique interpretations are featured. WonderGround Gallery is open daily.

The phrase “It’s five o’clock somewhere” took on a whole new meaning yesterday at the brand-new Margaritaville Hotel, when Jimmy Buffet took to the stage in a surprise pop-up concert for resort guests. Appearing just after five p.m., Jimmy Buffet led the thrilled crowd in sing-a-long renditions of favorites such as ‘Volcano,’ the eponymous ‘Margaritaville,’ and, of course, ‘Five O’Clock Somewhere.’

The Margaritaville Hotel, which opened in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 23, is just one component of Margaritaville Resort Orlando–a vacation destination that will include 900 cottage homes, 35+ retail, dining, and entertainment experiences, and a technologically advanced water park when it opens fully later this spring.
