Water Returns to Rivers of America at Magic Kingdom

Rivers of America is flowing yet again at Magic Kingdom! The river was drained recently in order to complete needed track replacement for the Liberty Square Riverboat. The track replacement has been completed and the water has returned. Guests will soon be able to hop onboard the Liberty Square Riverboat for that great scenic half mile journey.

Guests cruising Rivers of America can take in the views of:

• An early American settlement
• An idyllic Native American village
• Harper’s Mill
• Fort Langhorn
• Wilson’s Cave Inn
• Woodland animals, including deer
• Unique views of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splash Mountain and The Haunted Mansion

Water Returns to Rivers of America at Magic Kingdom

For now, the Riverboat remains still on Rivers of America. It is set to sail once again later this fall once all repairs and replacements have been completed. An official completion date has not been announced by Disney.

Mushu and Music Will Appear in Upcoming Remake of “Mulan”

“Mulan” fans everywhere were excited when it was announced that a live-action remake was in the works. We can confirm that production is underway and have some exciting details to share from the set per The DisInsider. 

First off, everyone’s favorite sidekick, Mushu, will be in the live-action version of the movie. The hilarious Mushu was just as much a star of the original so I know I am excited to see him back!

Secondly, there was a rumor swirling that the live-action reboot would not feature any music from the original. When director, Niki Caro, was asked earlier this year if music would be in the movie, she said, “Yes, from what I understand, no songs right now, much to the horror of my children.” We are definitely happy to hear that is turning out not to be true and we will be able to enjoy some of the originals from the first “Mulan.”

“Mulan” is scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 27, 2020.

Walt Disney Company Layoffs in Consumer Products and Interactive Media

Walt Disney Company layoffs

Walt Disney Company layoffs have happened. Some employees of the Consumer Products and Interactive Media division of The Walt Disney Company have been laid off.

According to The Hollywood Report, these pinks slips are coming following a company restructuring in March and prior to the merger with 21st Century Fox.

With an 8 percent decline in revenue and a 10 percent loss in operating income for this most recent quarter, it is not entirely surprising that the layoffs occurred within this segment of the company.

Disney has not issued a statement on the layoffs, but sources have said that while the number of those laid off was not that large, it impacted lower-level employees up to vp-level executives.

While it can only be assumed that this may have something to do with the upcoming merger, insiders are saying that they are due to the restructuring announced earlier this year. As part of that restructuring the consumer products division would be merging with the successful parks and resorts division into a segment called “parks, experiences and consumer products,” which will be run by chairman Bob Chapek.

New Nighttime Show To Replace IllumiNations At Epcot

New Nighttime Show at Epcot

The rumor mill has been churning and Disney has finally announced a new nighttime show is coming to Epcot. that after 20 years, “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth” will come to an end.

IllumiNations is scheduled to run to the end of summer 2019, so there is still time to get in your final viewing and allow for the anticipation to build for what’s next.

The Disney Parks Live Entertainment team is busy working on creating a new experience that will “Wow!” guests while remaining true to Walt’s original vision of the park. The new show will join a handful of new experiences including the “Guardians of the Galaxy” roller coaster, “Ratatouille” attraction and a new, out-of-this-world restaurant near Mission: SPACE.

No further details about the show have been provided at this time.

Disney Early Morning Magic at Toy Story Land

Rise and shine with the new Disney Early Morning Magic at Toy Story Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  On select Monday and Wednesday mornings from 7:30 am – 8:45 am, guests can experience the magic of Andy’s Backyard with the Disney Early Morning Magic special event admission. The very first Disney Early Morning Magic kicked off September 17th, and we could not be more excited.  From starting your day with a delightful breakfast to character meet & greets and enjoying all your favorite Toy Story Land rides without the lines, this event is pure magic.

 

Breakfast

Included in the price of the ticket, guests will enjoy a delicious breakfast at ABC Commissary.  Both adults and children get to select an entree and then get to nosh at the continental breakfast buffet. Breakfast will be served until 10 am.  In addition, there is a complimentary water and coffee station outside of Woody’s Lunchbox, so event goers can stay hydrated while out and about for the event. Here are the adult breakfast selections:

  • Fried Chicken & French Donut Cinnamon – Sugar Bowl with Sweet Potato Barrels (which I sampled – BEYOND!!)
  • Shrimp and Southern Grits Bowl
  • Mexican Corn Chilaquiles & Eggs Bowl
  • Breakfast Charcuterie Platter
  • Smashed Avocado Toast & Egg Plate

Children can choose between Scrambled Eggs & Sweet Potato Barrels or Fried Chicken & French Donut.

The continental breakfast buffet has something for everyone, even the pickiest eaters.  Be sure to watch the video to see all goodies available like pastries, and create your own yogurt.

Slinky Dog Dash

Yes, the standby time only said five minutes for Slinky Dog Dash.  Who else remembers the 200+ minute wait on opening day back in June?! Realistically, the wait was probably only two-three minutes aka how long it took me to get the front of the queue, which was fantastic! This is hands down my new favorite ride at Walt Disney World right now.  You can not help but smile as you race past Jesse and Rex or when you watch Wheezy singing at the end.

Alien Swirling Saucers

Alien Swirling Saucers is a ride for the whole family to enjoy (minimum height requirement is 32″).  Plus, who does not love just walking on the ride especially if you have toddlers and young children in tow. All the little details throughout the ride like the actual Pizza Planet and of course “The Claw” with bright vibrant colors bring the ride to life. Toy Story Mania

Nothing like starting the day with a brand new high score of 162,000 on Toy Story Mania. Despite the sign saying 10 minutes, it was really just the couple minute walk up to the front of the line. Another great ride for your family to enjoy together (no height requirement)!

Characters

Do not forget to see your favorite Toy Story characters – Buzz Lightyear, Woody and Jesse!  You can find Buzz Lightyear just past the Toy Story Land entrance sign ( PS call him Mrs. Nesbitt next time you see him LOL).  Woody and Jesse greet guests outside of Toy Story Mania.  Also, be sure to have your autograph books handy!

Overall Thoughts

Just take a look at the pictures above. The first photo is during the Early Morning Magic and the others are when the park opens to regular guests at 9 am.  The before and after is why this event is worth it! Disney World discounted military ticket offer

In the past, to qualify for the Disney World discounted military ticket offer, you or a member of your party was required to be an active or retired member of the military. Beginning last week and running as a pilot program until December 19, 2018, that discount has been extended to include Contractors and Department of Defense Civil Service members.

Guests who qualify and are looking to take advantage of this special offer can choose from two different ticket options: the Park Hopper and the Park Hopper Plus. The Park Hopper allows guests to hop from all four Walt Disney World theme parks in one day while the Park Hopper Plus includes the four theme parks plus additional Walt Disney World attractions including the two water parks and more.

Both ticket options are available in four or five-day increments. The price for a four-day Park Hopper is $226 while the price for a five-day Park Hopper is $246. The price for a four-day Park Hopper Plus is $266 and a five-day Park Hopper Plus is $286. The pricing for the discounted military tickets is the same for children 3 and over and adults.

Discounted military tickets can be purchased at a local base, through Disney at a theme park ticketing booth, or from Shades of Green. Valid identification is confirming status is required.

While the Disney World discounted military ticket offer has been extended, discounted rooms are still only available for active and retired military members and not for Department of Defense civilians and contractors.

It’s Curtains for Jack as Adventureland’s Pirate Tutorial Comes to a Close

For fans of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, a highlight of any visit to the Magic Kingdom was watching Jack Sparrow go toe-to-toe with little swashbucklers during his pirate tutorial. During this interactive stage show, Jack and his first mates would help young guests hone their pirate skills and even make participants members of his honorary pirate crew.  However, we here at Chip and Co. are sad to report that (according to a piece appearing at WDW Magic website) Disney World will be discontinuing Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Tutorial. As of now we only see it on the Disney World schedule until October 6th which seems to confirm this news.

The Pirate Tutorial was similar to Jedi Training Academy (without the pandemonium) as guests participated in a series of fun tasks designed to help them unleash their inner pirate.  Participants had an opportunity to square off against Jack himself before posing for photos and getting a special souvenir for taking part in the fun.

The cancellation of this interactive Adventureland offering is just one of a few cuts Walt Disney World is making to curb costs in 2018. Pirate fans can still indulge in some swashbuckling fun at the Pirates of the Caribbean ride or enjoy a pirate makeover at the neighboring Pirate’s League.

Move It! Shake It! Dance Party

One of my favorite things to do at the Magic Kingdom is the Move It! Shake It! Dance Party. The party which is held daily at three different times – mostly 10:00 am, 11:30 am, and 4:40 pm – features Mickey and Minnie along with pals the Genie from Aladdin, Nick Wilde and Judy Hoops from Zootopia, Woody & Jessie from Toy Story in a lively celebration in front of Cinderella Castle. Guests know when they see the giant gift boxes pop up in front of the castle that the fun is about to begin!

Unfortunately, those boxes might be packed up for good. Several online reports state that the Move It! Shake It! Dance Party will be wrapping up later this year. After a look at the official Walt Disney World website, there is not a performance on the schedule after October 6.

Oogie Boogie Brings His Eerie Charm to the Lobby at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa

When it comes to Halloween at Disneyland Resort, you may have heard about the fantastic theme park decor, the holiday overlays on some of your favorite attractions and the Festival of Pumpkins transforming the theme parks and Downtown Disney into a Halloween wonderland.  But did you know Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa also gets its own wonderful (and edible) makeover with a spooktacular towering lobby display?

Each year Disneyland’s culinary team is hard at work coming up with a new Halloween creation and this year’s piece features the creepy baddy Oogie Boogie from “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.” This ties in nicely with Oogie Boogie’s ominous presence over the entrance to Disney’s California Adventure Park which is directly accessible from the resort.

Check out this video giving you a closer look of the display!

What on the surface looks like a pretty stunning sculpture is in reality completely edible.  This entire creation is made of up rice crispy treat!! It is glued together and detailed using 200 lbs of icing! Talk about a trick or treat like no other!
