Solidarity for Children and Young People’s Safety at Disneyland Paris!

On Wednesday the 6th February, Disneyland Paris in partnership with Marion La Main Tendue, an association that works to prevent and build awareness against violence and harassment in school, as well as cyberbullying, welcomed a hundred children and teenagers to spend a day in the park.

Not only did the children enjoy their special day in the Disneyland Park but they also had the opportunity to attend a conference presented by Nora Fraisse, President of Marion La Main Tendue. She spoke to the children, adults and childcare workers about a child’s right to have education free from violence. Nora Fraisse also explained the importance of helping children and adolescents to grow up safely. The association also scheduled in workshops containing clips regarding violence and risk to spark debates between the young people encouraging them to discuss safety and empathy.

Chewbacca and R2D2 were there for unforgivable moments with the children and the teenagers invited by the association.

Disneyland Voted PETA’s “Most Vegan-Friendly Amusement Park”

Disneyland has just been voted America’s “Most Vegan-Friendly Amusement Park” by PETA due to a large amount of meatless, dairy-free, and egg-free options. Menus have changed and what used to be considered “theme park food” like mac and cheese, hot dogs, and turkey legs are now being supplemented with vegan-friendly options.

A few menu items across Disneyland that are vegan include egg-free Mickey waffles, vegan gumbo in a bread bowl, barbecue jackfruit and portobello sandwiches, and dark chocolate-dipped vegan sorbet with sprinkles.

Rachelle Owen, PETA Director of Student Campaigns and Influence, states, “Disneyland has become the ‘Happiest Place on Earth’ for young vegans.”

Cedar Point in Ohio, Epcot at Walt Disney World, and Universal Studios Hollywood all received honorable mentions on PETA’s list for vegan-friendly amusement parks.

With a portion of their motto reading “animals are not ours to eat”, PETA insists that becoming vegan will allow Disneyland visitors more time to enjoy the theme park throughout their lives.

Their reasoning for this? Because eating meat and other animal-derived food products have been linked to a higher risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer.

“The Lion King” Being Celebrated At Disney’s Animal Kingdom

I think that Simba stated it best when he sang “I just can’t wait to be king”! The Lion King has reigned at Disney’s Animal Kingdom since Day 1. The “Festival of the Lion King” debuted in 1998 and is, to this day, one of the highest-rated shows at Walt Disney World Resort. Believe it or not, this year marks the 25^th anniversary of the original animated movie. To celebrate this important milestone, Disney’s Animal Kingdom has many different ways that you get in on the celebration.

Hakuna Matata Time

Hakuna Matata – it’s a wonderful phrase that means no worries for the rest of your days! Doesn’t this sound wonderful? I’m sure everyone could use some of this in their lives! Now, every day you can celebrate with the Hakuna Matata Time Dance Party on Discovery Island. This wild celebration allows young adventurers to let out their inner meercat, warthog, or any other animal they choose on the dance floor! The party hosts captivate everyone with entertaining “The Lion King”-inspired dances and games.

You can’t have a dance party without music, right? Both a group of musicians as well as a DJ get the party started. They provide the perfect soundtrack for the Hakuna Matata Time Dance Party. The soundtrack features animal-inspired popular songs and tunes from “The Lion King” all of which are performed in a World Beat style.

Hakuna Matata would not be the same without an appearance by at least Timon or Pumba. Luckily, Timon is on hand to show us all how to live the best “Hakuna Matata” life. Rafiki as well as Baloo, Kida, Meeko, and Turk also stop by the Hakuna Mata Dance Party as well!

Photo Ops And More!

Make sure that you don’t miss the fun photo spots that are themed after “The Lion King”! There is even a three-dimensional scene that is a replica of the film – you will think that it leapt right out of the film right in front of you.

Starting this summer, the Tree of Life will awaken to a new story in the evenings. We will see moments from Simba’s journey depicted in a beautiful artistic style set to music inspired by “The Lion King” score.

Paige O’Hara, the voice of Belle from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast will be signing artwork at Epcot’s Festival of the Arts!

Known as the voice of Belle from Disney’s animated film Beauty and the Beast, Paige O’Hara will be signing artwork this week at Epcot’s International Festival of the Arts.

Guests interested in meeting Paige O’Hara will need to purchase her artwork at the Fine Art by Collectors Editions Festival Market. She will be meeting guests from 1pm to 3pm, and 5pm to 7pm from February 14-18.

“Andi Mack” Makes History with First Disney Channel Character to Say “I’m Gay”

Joshua Rush, who plays Cyrus in the Disney Channel series, “Andi Mack” just became the first-ever Disney Channel character to say the words “I’m gay”. His role as Cyrus is also the first representation of an openly gay character on Disney Channel.

Rush recently has an interview with Good Morning America where he talked about his portrayal as Cyrus and this milestone in Disney history.

He said, “Taking on the role of Cyrus has been one of the most fun things I’ve ever done in my life. Being Jewish, being 14, going to middle school, having this small, close-knit group of friends, and being gay are all just parts of his personality.”

GMA also asked him about the public reaction to his character coming out on the show to which he affirmed it is “overwhelmingly positive”. He added, “Over the last few days I’ve really gotten to see the myriad of ways that both this new coming-out scene for Cyrus and this Jewish representation of his family, has affected the fans.”

In the scene that aired last Friday, Cyrus is joined by close friends at his late grandmother’s shiva (the first week of mourning observed by those of the Jewish faith). Cyrus chooses this as the right time for him to come out to his best friend, Jonah.

Cyrus previously came out to his two close friends last year but has never actually uttered the words “I’m gay” until now.

Kevin is Now Roaming Animal Kingdom

We found Kevin! This morning we were walking through Animal Kingdom looking for new menu items at Dino Diner and we found her looking for Russell and Dug! Kevin, our favorite thirteen foot tall giant tropical bird from Disney/Pixar’s UP has come to Disney’s Animal Kingdom! Russell the Senior Wilderness Explorer and Dug are already big parts of the “UP! A Great Bird Adventure” show featuring beautiful and exotic trained birds.

She was walking in the area between Up! A Great Bird Adventure and Discovery Island through Animal Kingdom. Take a look at the video we have of her finding Russell and Dug.

We don’t know how long Kevin will be meeting guests at the park. Right now there is no set schedule, but she will be out and about from 9am to 5pm daily.

Pixar’s Newest SparkShort Movie Is Smash And Grab

Besides its amazing movies, Pixar is known for its Pixar Shorts such as Geri’s Game. They have introduced a new program specifically for Disney+ called Pixar SparkShorts.

Per Jim Morris, the President of Pixar Animation Studios, “The SparkShorts program is designed to discover new storytellers, explore new storytelling techniques, and experiment with new production workflows. These films are unlike anything we’ve ever done at Pixar, providing an opportunity to unlock the potential of individual artists and their inventive filmmaking approaches on a smaller scale than our normal fare.”

We recently discussed the new SparkShort program and the first film released, Purl. The newest SparkShort is Smash and Grab. Smash and Grab was directed by Brian Larsen and produced by David Lally. (Brian Larsen directed the Pixar Short The Legend of Mor’due which was released in 2012.)

Smash and Grab tells the story of two antiquated robots who risk everything for freedom and for each other after years of toiling away inside the engine room of a towering locomotive. You will have to watch the film below to find out if they are able to make their escape!

Minnie Van Service Hours Extended for MCO Transfers

The Minnie Van Service at Walt Disney World has become very popular, helpful, and convenient for visiting guests. From park to park, resort to resort, airport, and all general travels, the Minnie Van Service is another great form of Disney magic at work. To help even more guests throughout the early hours of the day and late hours of the night, the routes heading to and from the Orlando International Airport (MCO) now have extended hours.

Originally, the airport Minnie Van Service was operating from 7am-10pm. Now, Disney has added two extra hours each night for the airport service to run 7 am to midnight.

The cost for Minnie Van Service to OR from the airport is $155 plus tax. This is a price increase of $5 from the former price. Each Minnie Van holds up to six guests and eight pieces of medium-sized luggage. Wheelchair or ECV accessible Minnie Vans are also available upon request by calling 407-828-3500.

Guests can call 407-WDW-PLAY to schedule their Minnie Van Service to or from Orlando International Airport (MCO).

Disneyland Hotel Pool Refurbishment Update

The Disneyland Hotel pool area began undergoing refurbishments in January 2019 and will continue through May 2019.

Phase 1 of renovations began January 7th and will continue through March 2019. During this phase, the D-Ticket Pool, Mickey Spa, Minnie Spa, Monorail Pool, and waterslides will be unavailable. Hotel Guests are invited to enjoy the iconic E-Ticket Pool and will also have access to the California Streamin’ waterslide at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel nearby.

Phase 2 of refurbishments will begin in March 2019. During this time, the D-Ticket Pool and Mickey Spa will once again be available to Guests, but the Monorail Pool, waterslides, and Minnie Spa will remain unavailable until May 2019.

Poolside cabana rentals will have limited availability for the duration of the pool refurbishment as well.

If you are staying at the Disneyland Hotel during this refurbishment period, disruptions should be minimal. Construction should only take place between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Please call (714) 956-6425 to learn more about these refurbishments. Guests under 18 must have parent or guardian permission to call. All construction and reopening dates are subject to change.

Renovations are a necessary task that must take place from time to time to keep things in working order and looking fresh. Don’t let this deter you from visiting the Happiest Place on Earth this year! Now more than ever is a great time to visit the Disneyland Resort.
