Universal Kids Resort Hotel Murals Get the Green Light from Frisco City Council

The Universal Kids Resort is one step closer to becoming the ultimate vacation destination for little adventurers—and it’s going to be bursting with color and character! On June 17, the Frisco City Council officially approved an updated façade plan for the on-site hotel, unlocking the doors for massive new murals that will turn the hotel into a living, breathing (and dancing) canvas of kid-friendly fun.

This approval comes after Universal previously submitted an earlier design in December, but held off on including character murals until all intellectual properties were officially cleared. Now that the lineup of featured lands and IPs has been revealed—including Shrek, Trolls, Minions, SpongeBob SquarePants, Gabby’s Dollhouse, and even Jurassic World—the creative team is full steam ahead on making the hotel just as playful as the park itself.

According to John McReynolds, Universal’s Senior VP of External Affairs, the murals were carefully designed to be “artistic” and offer guests a “color journey” before they even set foot inside the theme park. While the designs are a bit more refined than earlier concepts, they’re still as joyful and energetic as you’d expect for a family-focused resort. From the larger-than-life images of Shrek and Donkey to the hilariously expressive Minions and vibrant Trolls, every mural adds personality and a splash of pure magic.

Notably, Universal also collaborated with the nearby Cobb Hill neighborhood to ensure the bold new look feels intentional and integrated. As McReynolds put it, “It’s meant to be a fun place that blends in with the resort itself.” Director of Development Services John Lettelleir confirmed the changes meet all signage codes, so it’s full speed ahead!

Construction is still on track for an early 2026 grand opening, and Universal is prepared to bring in more construction crews if necessary to stay on schedule. With park lands themed to some of the most iconic kids’ properties in entertainment—and now an officially approved hotel design to match—Universal Kids Resort is shaping up to be a color-packed, imagination-fueled paradise deep in the heart of Texas.

Disney Cruise Line Makes Big Changes to Reservation Deposits

Big News for Your Next Cruise Disney Just Slashed Deposits to 10%

Beginning today, June 18, 2025, Disney Cruise Line is implementing a significant change to its reservation deposit policy, reducing the required upfront payment from 20% to 10% of the voyage fare for all new bookings. This update aims to offer greater flexibility for guests planning their magical voyages.

This revised deposit structure also impacts cancellation fees for future sailings. For new reservations made from June 18, 2025, if a booking is canceled during the designated deposit cancellation fee period, the cancellation fee will align with the new policy at 10% of the voyage fare. Conversely, guests who previously paid a 20% deposit will be subject to a 20% cancellation fee, consistent with their initial booking terms. It’s important to note that, in line with existing policy, deposits for Concierge Guests will continue to be non-refundable.

Guests with existing reservations who are outside their cancellation fee period and wish to take advantage of the new 10% deposit policy have the option to cancel their current booking and rebook under the updated terms. However, standard cancellation fees may still apply for reservations that fall within the cancellation fee period, as detailed in Disney Cruise Line’s terms and conditions.

Further adjustments are also being made to Onboard Placeholder Offers. For voyages of seven nights or longer, guests converting a Placeholder Reservation will now only be required to pay a 5% deposit. Should such a reservation be canceled outside the deposit cancellation fee period, the cancellation fee will also be 5%. Additionally, a notable change allows for more streamlined conversions of Onboard Placeholder Offers. The previous three-day hold when converting these offers through the Contact Center or online has been eliminated, meaning a deposit will now be due at the time of placeholder conversion.

Downtown Disney’s Earl of Sandwich Announces Closure and Future Reopening

Earl of Sandwich has revealed the closing date for its current, temporary spot in the Downtown Disney District, along with the opening timeframe for its new, permanent location.

The temporary Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney District will close on July 26, according to The Orange County Register. This closure will unfortunately lead to the layoffs of all 167 employees.

The original Earl of Sandwich location was demolished in 2022, leading the restaurant to temporarily relocate to the former La Brea Bakery building in 2023. This temporary move was possible because Disney’s plan to replace La Brea with Porto’s Bakery in 2022 was delayed.

The new permanent Earl of Sandwich location on the west side of Downtown Disney is set to open this winter.

Construction is currently underway for the new Earl of Sandwich, which will be a two-story building. The first floor will feature a quick-service walk-up counter, and the second will house Carnaby Tavern, a cocktail bar. Meanwhile, the former La Brea Bakery building is finally slated for demolition to clear the way for Porto’s Bakery.

The future of the Earl of Sandwich pop-up pod near the Star Wars Trading Post remains uncertain.

New Mickey-Shaped Bacon-Pecan-Caramel Cinnamon Roll Debuts at Magic Kingdom

A delicious new Mickey-shaped Bacon-Pecan-Caramel Cinnamon Roll has arrived at Westward Ho in Magic Kingdom, and we recently headed to Frontierland to try it out!

You can find Westward Ho in Frontierland, directly across from the Country Bear Musical Jamboree. This new breakfast item is available only from park open until 11 a.m. and is available for $8.49.

This Mickey-shaped Bacon-Pecan-Caramel Cinnamon Roll isn’t just a mouthful to say—it’s a monster of a treat! It has that classic cinnamon roll aroma, and it’s loaded with huge pecans. The caramel makes it delightfully sticky and helps hold everything together, so you won’t have bacon and pecan pieces falling off as you eat. The pecans are candied and very sugary, adding to the sweetness.

Our only minor critique is that the bacon could be more evenly distributed, as it was mostly on one side of ours. However, the bacon does a great job of cutting through the sweetness, which we really appreciated. This massive cinnamon roll is definitely too big for one person, but it makes for a fun and exciting breakfast option for a family or group looking for something beyond the usual Magic Kingdom breakfast fare.

Stormalong Bay Reopens at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts

Stormalong Bay, nestled within a New England-inspired setting, perfectly blends the charm of a beachside boardwalk with the excitement of a water park. This exciting pool recently reopened at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts!

Recently reopened after routine maintenance, it continues to deliver on detail and atmosphere, making guests of Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts feel like they’ve stepped into their very own seaside escape.

With a sand-bottom pool and whirlpool spas, it’s no wonder this three-acre aquatic playground keeps guests coming back.

Even more fun is in store as Disney puts the finishing touches on the Shipwreck Pool and waterslide, which will remain closed while routine maintenance is completed. Guests can enjoy those offerings in the coming weeks.

During its six-month closure, Stormalong Bay underwent significant renovations, including the resurfacing of its pools and the addition of fresh sand to the sand-bottomed pool. The decking was also replaced.

However, the Shipwreck Pool and its waterslide remain closed. Scaffolding still surrounds the ship’s mast, which is where guests access the waterslide that empties into Stormalong Bay. Both the Shipwreck Pool and the waterslide are expected to reopen soon.

Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground to Expand Pool Area

Get ready for even more fun in the sun at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground! The Meadow Swimmin’ Pool area is set to undergo an exciting expansion.

According to the Disney Parks Blog, the expansion will significantly enhance the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool area, effectively doubling its size with the addition of a new zero-entry pool and deck. Beyond the aquatic fun, the resort is also adding a tennis court and two pickleball courts to its recreational offerings.

The Walt Disney World website confirms that construction near the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool began last month. Guests should note that both the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool and the Wilderness Swimmin’ Pool will remain open throughout the duration of the work.
